* TheWoobie: Rita in real life. When she was a kid, her father repeatedly beat and raped her, and her alcoholic mother could barely even do anything to defend her from him. Her first husband only used her as a pathway to success, and she was repeatedly sexually harassed by producers such as Harry Cohn. The only person she ever had anything resembling a truly healthy relationship with with was Orson Welles, and the way both her and Welles later spoke of their relationship suggest that the relationship eventually broke down because Welles, despite his best efforts, realized that he couldn't save Rita from her own demons. Rita later was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease at a rather young age, ultimately succumbing to it in her late 60s. Her death made Alzheimer's a well-known disease however.
