He starred in the 2013 Creator/HayaoMiyazaki film ''Anime/TheWindRises'' as the voice of the male lead, a fictionalized version of Mitsubishi aircraft designer Jiro Horikoshi. Miyazaki even coached him through [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OrIJJILh4U how to act]].

To add even more to it, one of his first film projects was an ''Ultraman'' fan film, ''Return of Ultraman'' where he himself played Ultraman, and in ''Shin Ultraman'', aside from being the director, Anno is also [[DescendedCreator the primary motion capture actor]] for Ultraman.
