He was a lifetime member of the Actors' Studio by invitation, won several UsefulNotes/{{Emmy Award}}s, was nominated for two UsefulNotes/{{Academy Award}}s, and was the first male actor to win the UsefulNotes/{{Saturn Award}} for Best Supporting Actor twice. Meredith was married to Helen Derby, Margaret Perry, Creator/PauletteGoddard, and Kaja Sundsten, and had two daughters with Sundsten. He died in 1997 at the age of 89 of complications from Alzheimer's disease and melanoma.
