'''''Darth Maul: Son Of Dathomir''''' is a four-part limited series based on an unused story arc for ''WesternAnimation/StarWarsTheCloneWars'' due to the show's sudden cancellation. Originally released as separate issues, it was later reprinted as a full graphic novel. As the name suggests, it revolves around the titular Zabrak, whose storyline was LeftHanging. The comic is one of the last ''Star Wars'' titles that will be published by longtime publisher Creator/DarkHorseComics (as the publishing rights will go back to Creator/MarvelComics at the year's end), and in accordance with Disney's decision to reboot the ''Franchise/StarWarsExpandedUniverse'', it is the only Dark Horse story that has the distinction of being canonical.

The story is similar to other villain-centric story arc of TV series, such as the Nightsisters arc. Very little focus is given to the Jedi, and due to the [[VillainProtagonist nature]] of the work's protagonist it's darker in tone than most episodes of the show, falling heavily into EvilVersusEvil, while doubling as ADayInTheLimeLight adventure for Maul (even more so than previous Maul episodes had).

** Not really, the Separatist forces beat the Shadow Collective in both encounters. While the first time was a pyrrhic victory, they rather easily beat them the second time. In addition, Dooku was more than a match for the Nightbrothers, with Viscus only surviving because of the intervention of the surviving Shadow Collective members. If anything, this establishes that the Separatist Army can be one.

!!Due to its nature as a sequel, spoilers for ''The Clone Wars'' will be left unmarked.

'''''Darth Maul: Son Of Dathomir''''' is a four-part limited series based on an unused story arc for ''WesternAnimation/StarWarsTheCloneWars'' due to the show's sudden cancellation. As the name suggests, it revolves around the titular Zabrak, whose storyline was LeftHanging. The comic is one of the last ''Star Wars'' titles that will be published by longtime publisher Creator/DarkHorseComics (as the publishing rights will go back to Creator/MarvelComics at the year's end), and in accordance with Disney's decision to reboot the ExpandedUniverse, it will be the only Dark Horse story that has the distinction of being canonical.

Following Darth Maul's coup on Mandalore and his failed attempt to overthrow Darth Sidious that resulted in the death of his brother, Savage Opress, Darth Maul is imprisoned within "The Spire" on the frigid planet of Stygeon Prime.
----
!!This comic series contains the following tropes:

* TheAlcatraz: The Spire is a particularly nasty prison made with the intent to keep Force-sensitives in captivity.
* ForegoneConclusion: [[spoiler:Judging by the fact that the crew behind ''The Clone Wars'' had plans for Darth Maul in a hypothetical seventh season, it's safe to presume that he makes it out of all this alive.]]
* LukeIAmYourFather: In the third issue, it is revealed that [[spoiler:Darth Maul is Mother Talzin's son - and, by extension, that would also make Savage Opress and Feral her other sons]].
* TookALevelInBadass: General Grevious is more threatening in this story than he is usually. [[spoiler:Darth Maul actually retreats from him at one point.]]
* VillainProtagonist: Darth Maul himself.
