[[https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Lair_of_Darkness Lair of Darkness]] is a series of cards related to the titular Field Spell. Lair of Darkness allows you to tribute one of your opponent’s monsters once per turn as a cost to activate your card effects. The leader of this series is [[https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Darkest_Diabolos,_Lord_of_the_Lair Diabolos, Lord of the Lair]], a monster that can Special Summon itself when a monster is tributed, as well as reduce your opponent’s hand at a cost of tributing a monster.

*CastingAShadow: Not only is the series full of DARK monsters, the Field Spell also turns all monsters on both sides of the field into DARK attribute.
*DarkIsEvil: The monsters associated with the Lair of Darkness are DARK attribute, and they are very malevolent.
*{{Hellhound:}} Ahrima, the Wicked Warden can search for Darkest Diabolos and Lair of Darkness. This symbolizes its role as the harbinger of hell.
*HumanSacrifice: A deck that utilizes Lair of Darkness will constantly tribute monsters on both sides of the field to activate effects. Even Tribute Summon can be viable thanks to the amount of Tokens generated by the Field Spell.
*LikeCannotCutLike: Diabolos cannot be tributed by your opponent, which means it is immune to the effect of Lair of Darkness.
*SatanicArchetype: Diabolos’ name means “devil,” and it rules over an evil realm.
*SixthRanger: Lilith, Lady of Lament’s name and effects do not refer to Lair of Darkness in anyway, but she can tribute monsters to search for the [[https://yugipedia.com/wiki/Virus Virus]] cards that synergies very well with the deck. Her artwork is also featured alongside Darkest Diabolos and Ahrima in the Structure Deck.
*TookALevelInBadass: [[https://yugipedia.com/wiki/Diabolos,_King_of_the_Abyss Diabolos, King of the Abyss]] has good stats for its level but is held down by mediocre effects and restrictive summoning conditions. Darkest Diabolos, Lord of the Lair has higher stats and stronger effects and is easier to summon.

* CounterpartComparison: Elemental HERO Terra Firma is the manga's answer for Neos, being Judai's white-colored ace HERO monster with 2500 attack. The difference are both in the cards application (Neos being a vanilla Level 7 main deck monster, Terra Firma being a Level 8 effect Fusion monster), thematic (Neos representing space, and Terra Firma representing the Earth), and even origin, (with anime Judai creating Neos and his fusion materials, while manga Judai was given Terra Firma by his mentor; and, in turn, Terra Firma was created by and for the main villains plan).

The '''[[http://yugipedia.com/wiki/Maju Maju]]''' is a series of Fiend-Type monsters whose ATK is equal or partially equal to the something that depends on your monsters; Maju Garzett gains ATK based on the monsters used to tribute summon them. Received for its Tribute summon, while Gren Maju Da Eiza gains ATK & DEF for all of your banished monster. Maju Garzett notably received a cameo in the movie, via an unknown duelist tribute summoning Maju Garzett during a duel against Jonouchi/Joey.

* AchillesHeel: For the Garzetts, they all have nonexistent DEF, meaning that having their battle position changed is usually a death sentence. Doubly so if they're flipped face down, as they lose all of their ATK.
** Maju Kaiser Garzett can still be affected by card effects so long as it's ''outside'' the battle phase.

* AntiMagic: Maju Kaiser Garzett prevents the opponent from activating cards or card effects during the battle phase, which applies on both ends.

* BioArmor: The pale red body parts on the Garzetts appear to be a sort of exoskeleton, which becomes golden in the case of Maju Kaiser Garzett.

* BoisterousBruiser: The Garzetts are implied to be this, given that ''Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2006'', Great Maju Garzett's deck is simply named "I am [[SpellMyNameWithAThe the]] Great Maju!"
* BroughtDownToNormal / BroughtDownToBadass: Maju Kaiser Garzett's card and effect prevention in the battle phase renders your opponent's effect monsters as normal monsters.

* CapeWings: Maju Kaiser Garzetts wings seem to evoke this, to fit its nobleman aesthetic.

* CoolSword: Maju Kaiser Garzett wields a huge claymore.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: The only way to destroy Maju Kaiser Garzett during battle phase is ''somehow'' getting a monster capable of beating over it, as none of your effects can be used during the battle phase.

* EvolutionaryLevels: Maju Garzett —> Great Maju Garzett —> Legendary Maju Garzett.
* EyesDoNotBelongThere: The five yellow orbs on Legendary Maju Garzett's shoulders and forehead resemble these.

This gets taken UpToEleven with Maju Kaiser Garzett, as it has at least ''10'' of these on his wings, head, chest, knees, shoulders, and possibly an eleventh or even twelfth on his sword, on top of becoming [[RedEyesTakeWarning cherry red]].

** Maju Kaiser Garzett requires three tributes, and gains ATK equal to their combined original ATK, much like Legendary Maju Garzett.

* MeaningfulName: Majū loosely translates to "Devil Beast," which reflects the demonic appearances of all of them.
* MechanicallyUnusualFighter: Unlike the Garzetts, who comprise 3/4ths of the series, Gren Maju Da Eiza gains both ATK & DEF based on the amount of monsters removed from play, and doesn't need to be tribute or special summoned due to it being a level 3 monster. It's also FIRE attribute rather than DARK attribute.

to:

** Maju Kaiser Garzett, while usually not able to have as ridiculous of an ATK stat as Legendary Maju Garzett and lacking the piercing damage, prevents the opponent from using ''any'' cards or effect during the battle phase, meaning it can attack freely without worry of being disrupted.
* LawOfChromaticSuperiority: Maju Kaiser Garzett, going off of GoldColoredSuperiority and PurpleIsPowerful compared to the other Majus being red and blue or green.
* LoopholeAbuse: The Garzetts gain the ''original'' ATK of the monster, meaning they can bypass getting lower ATK if the Tributed monsters had their ATK lowered, though conversely, they don't get any additional ATK if they were boosted before.
* LightIsNotGood: Maju Kaiser Garzett is decked out in golden armor (potentially his own skin), and is likely still just as evil.

** Strangely enough, he goes back to having two arms upon becoming Maju Kaiser Garzett.

While the Garzetts and Gren Maju Da Eiza can get ridiculously high ATK, they don't have much else in terms of substance beyond Legendary Maju Garzett's piercing ability. This is thrown out the window with the advent of Maju Kaiser Garzett, who manages to be SkilledAndStrong due to it's ability to prevent the enemy from activating cards or effects during battle.
