* AdaptationalRelationshipOverhaul: In the anime, there was little to know implication that Ray and Zarc actually knew each other, aside from Ray considering Zarc to be a monster that was ravaging her home and wanted to protect her father. In the fanfic, however, it's implied that Ray and Zarc actually knew each other, and despite their amnesia, both seemingly recognize each other upon meeting in Standard for the first time. Their possible relationship with one another is further implied by how Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon and two of Zarc's SKSD dragons react to Ray in the Tag Duel in ''Scale 09''. The latter dragons despise her the moment they see her, something Yuya notices, and they grow even more hostile when Ray busts out with her En Magicians. Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon, however, is happy to see Ray and greets her En Pendulum Magician like it was an old friend.

* TheAce: How the LDS trio views her, considering her the standard that they have to reach to become great duelists. When Ray introduces herself to You Show, she states that she is the top student of the Expert Class at Leo Duel School. It also says a lot about her skills when she hasn't been defeated by the time she's been introduced, and the only person who ever forced her into a draw was Reiji.
* ApologeticAttacker: In the hazy recollection of their last encounter back in the Original Dimension, presumably when she defeats him, Ray asks Zarc to forgive her.

He makes his first official debut in the first chapter, which is set sometime after Yuya has figured out how to perform Pendulum Summoning after defeating Strong Ishijima, but before Shingo Sawatari's appearance proper.
* AdaptationalHeroism: Courtesy of his amnesia, Zarc's villainous persona during his time as the Demon Duelist is not present. In fact, he acts like a more mature version of Yuya, albeit struggling with his apparent desire to viciously harm his opponents.

* BerserkButton: If you try to hurt his friends, you better expect to find yourself staring down the Demon Duelist's return, if only for a few short moments. [[spoiler:Just ask Shingo what happened when he played dirty and put Ayu, Futoshi and Tatsuya in danger]].

* FelonyMisdemeanor: Zarc feels that he went overboard [[spoiler:when he attempted to get revenge on Shingo during the Tag Duel in ''Scale 2'', which would have resulted in him and Kakimoto being severely injured]] and feels horrible about it. The others, however, comfort him by saying his reaction was justified.

* ForWantOfANail: His presence leads to a number of changes throughout the story.
* HeelFaceTurn: In ''Arc-V'', Zarc was the final antagonist the Lancers faced in the series. Here, he is one of the main protagonists.
* HeroicBSOD: Suffers this during the Tag Duel between him, Yuya, Shingo and one of his three stooges. When he realized that he was about to seriously injure, or worse kill Shingo, he's so in shock and in utter horror that he can barely put any effort into his turns. Thankfully, Yuya's comeback and skills, as well as the trust displayed by his Entermate monsters, helps Zarc get back into his funk.
* LateArrivalSpoiler: As mentioned above, Zarc didn't make an appearance until near the end of the series, much less his overall role in the story.

* TheLastOfTheseIsNotLikeTheOthers: Despite being the original self from which all four Yu boys originate, he's not affected by the power of the bracelets. Despite the fact that he hangs around Yuzu and Yuya often, the former's bracelet never teleports him away from Yuya. Not even when he and Yuto meet for the first time, as Yuzu's bracelet teleports Yuto away instead when Yuya approaches. So far, there's no explanation as for why this is.

In ''Pendulum's Fifth Swing'', alongside Zarc Ray had somehow survived and remained whole, and like him, has forgotten much about her past. Himika, upon learning that she was also a child of Leo, took her in. She has since become a powerful duelist at LDS, becoming the top student of the Expert Class, and according to Yaiba, she is undefeated. The only person who ever forced her into a draw is her half-brother Reiji.

* ForWantOfANail: Like Zarc, her presence in the story is going to change many events in the story, with fans eagerly awaiting Leo's reaction to her survival.

* YouLookFamiliar: As Yuya, Yuto, Yugo and Yuri were all born from him when the Original Dimension was split into four, Zarc naturally looks exactly like them. However, he's slightly older, making it easier for others to tell him apart from his counterparts.

Originally, he was much like Yuya and wanted to bring smiles to the crowd, but when the crowd cheered for him when he accidentally wounded his opponent, he began to perform violent duels, eventually becoming more ruthless. At the height of his career after winning the championship, Zarc fused himself with the Four Dimensional Dragons and went on a rampage, destroying much of the Original Dimension before he was eventually stopped by Ray Akaba, who's efforts resulted in Zarc, and the Original Dimension, being split into four different dimensions. Zarc's soul was inherited by his Standard counterpart: Yuya Sakaki.
