* SpellMyNameWithAnS: The correct polish spelling of her name is Ania. Shouldn't be a problem, since the language uses the same alphabet, but for some reason Machine Games chose to use a transcription from Russian instead. "Anya" is actually VERY grating to any Polish player.

* FakeNationality: In-universe, despite appearing to be German and mostly speaking the language, he's actually a Frenchman.

* TooDumbToLive: She declares that she can "tell impure blood by sight" and complements BJ on his "fine Aryan features." BJ is an ethnically-Polish American, and his mother was a Jew. No doubt BJ enjoys the ''hell'' out of making the old hag eat her words...

* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: It's hard not to see his disdain for the various {{Ghostapo}}-ish practices of his colleagues as this, given that it usually backfires tremendously. On top of that, he tries to learn from his mistakes. In ''Wolfenstein'', he specifically orders his doomsday weapon to be moved to the Zeppelin once he arrives, ''triples'' airfield security, [[spoiler:kills the resistance's leader]], orders large crack squads to exterminate the remaining resistance members, and uses [[spoiler:Hans Grosse in a Thule Medallion-powered suit]] to guard his device, knowing you're going to get through his defenses sooner or later.
** In the opening of the ''The New Order'', Deathshead takes this trope up to eleven by doing the unthinkable: [[WhamEpisode He beats B.J. Blazkowicz and wins the war]].

* {{Foil}}: Old, physically frail, calculated and [[DangerouslyGenreSavvy extremely intelligent]], in contrast to B.J.'s youth, strength and aggressive, impulsive (if not outright stupid) behavior. Deathshead completely lacks moral restraint and delights in torture, whereas Blazkowicz is repeatedly shown to fight out of empathy and a moral obligation to end the war.

* AffablyEvil: After spending years dropping by the asylum to haul off patients for Deathhead's experiments, he's finally ordered to purge the asylum. And when he does he cheerfully thanks the head staff for their 'co-operation.'

* DarkMistress: A GenderFlip version. His entire character revolves around his love for and devotion to Frau Engel.

* {{Hypocrite}}: He's fond of waxing about Nazi superiority and his own Aryan genius. [[spoiler:Yet is willing to reverse-engineer advanced technology from a secret ''Jewish'' society to forward his research.]]
