* AmbitionIsEvil: A faction-wide case. Each and every Dark Elf is aiming for the spot above them while simultaneously keeping an eye on their subordinates, and it's highly implied that Malekith [[MiseryBuildsCharacter designed this]] to weed out the weak and promote the strong. In-game this is reflected by the loyalty mechanic, where if you don't treat your commanders right with loot or prestige, they will rebel against you to get what they want.

Added DiffLines:

* DetrimentalDetermination: His determination to become the Phoenix King is the reason why he was immolated with nigh-untreatable burns, his exile, and his mind being poisoned by his mother. Thousands of years later, Malekith is ''still'' insistent on carrying on with his ambitions and his narrow-minded approach to it has resulted in him becoming rather despondent and mentally worn out. He himself is aware of it, but still carries on with his goal because he feels he's got nothing left to go back on.

Added DiffLines:

* GeniusBruiser: Malekith possesses incredible strength and his armaments and spells can deal devastating damage towards his opponents. He's also a skilled strategist and planner and a number of his victories and accomplishments came from him either sowing discord or taking advantage of his enemies' weaknesses. The "genius" aspect of the trope is emphasized more in tie-in books.

Added DiffLines:

* TeethClenchedTeamwork: Time and again, this is his most consistent relationship with his mother, Morathi. Malekith acknowledges his mother as the most powerful mage in Dark Elven society and, in some aspects, is better in leadership and magecraft than him, but Morathi is more concerned with inflicting pain towards others and indulging in her desires than completing their main objective. The two have a complicated history, with Morathi being the architect of Malekith's misery and the Witch-King making a number of attempts to [[{{Matricide}} kill his mother]] out of retribution for her torment towards him, but begrudgingly concedes that she is needed for much of his war campaigns.

Added DiffLines:

* VillainCred: It's rare and very difficult to earn Malekith's respect in Dark Elven society, but those who manage to do so are openly acknowledged by the Witch-King and are given high-ranking positions as a result. It's a byproduct of [[TheSocialDarwinist his law of demanding the most powerful and capable warriors to be the ones in charge]]. Military leaders and esteemed warriors like Lokhir Fellheart and Kouran Darkhand are the most obvious examples.

* TimeAbyss: She is ''the'' single oldest living mortal in the world, though you wouldn't know it by looking at her. She was born before the Cataclysm, eight thousand years in the past, and has seen all of recorded history pass by since, a distinction shared with no other material entity save for the Slann.

The Dark Elves have no allies, only prey. The lesser races of the world are treated as potential slaves, fit only to be worked to death for their masters. The Dark Elves reserve their greatest scorn for their High Elf cousins, who they believe to be weak usurpers who robbed them of their rightful homeland.

* OurElvesAreDifferent: Archetypal dark elves, with the sadism, the ReligionOfEvil, the spikes and the undying hatred of the High Elves. They're however quite pale-skinned and live aboveground, unlike the usual appearance of dark elves in fiction.
