* InSeriesNickname: "Lyon", courtesy of Erin. She didn't like it at first, but then grew used to it, and even tries to use it to hide her [Princess] background. Emphasis on "tries".

* PaperThinDisguise: When she starts coming into the limelight on the scrying orbs and people start wondering about her background, she tries pretending she's just Lyon and even wears a wig, not wanting to return to Calanfer. It would've worked were it not for her parents sending Thronebearers after her, and the many people of importance she sees being in the know about Calanfer's politics.

** An implied example before she knew about

Mrsha decides she did her job as leaves Rafaema slack-jawed.

to:

* FieryRedhead: She's got red hair, plenty of choice words when she gets angry, and a sword she'll swing for her daughter, Mrsha, if it comes to it.

Pawn. [[spoiler:Until the events of Volume 8 have made her doubt how well she can keep it up their relationship, especially when she tried to effectively sell her body to Cirediel for help in finding Mrsha, and was only stopped by Saliss. * LovableAlphaBitch: Even at her worst and raised in a very human-supremacist Human-supremacist environment, she couldn’t bring herself to be mean to Mrsha.
Mrsha. This eventually becomes subverted after her BreakTheHaughty moment.

* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: She is a [Princess] who actively works at and manages The Wandering Inn.

to:

\n* ModestRoyalty: After several Volumes of her going poor, struggling in the inn as a [Barmaid] before becoming its head manager, she works out a balance between her background as a princess and a worker of the inn, thinking of it as her castle like Erin suggested. As such, while a shaky position, she retains authority as a [Princess] even without Calanfer's official permission, on top of having a team of Thronebearers to call on when they come to find her, and letting her be a liaison for Ilvriss amongst Izril's Human nobles in Volume 9. [[spoiler:This leads to her becoming the [Princess of the Inn] at the end of Volume 9.]]
* RagsToRiches: Downplayed. The Wandering Inn is a far, far cry from the palaces and its luxuries of Calanfer, forcing Lyonette to work every day for its upkeep, but the many Volumes living with it, its friends and incidents alike have made her think of it as the home she never had.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: She is a [Princess] (however fallen she is) who actively works at and manages The Wandering Inn.
Inn. Takes on a straighter meaning when she's publicly acknowledged as one when Calanfer comes searching for her.

!! [Skeleton Knight], [Sword Dancer], [Undead Leader], [Tactician], [Barmaid], [Carer], [Relic Guardian]

Toren is an animated Skeleton created by Pisces and given to Erin as a way to pay off his tab. Toren slowly gained sapience as he began Leveling, something undead are not meant to be able to do. He is currently no longer working at the Inn.
----

* AndIMustScream: Since Erin can't hear his "voice" trying to talk to her during their confrontation, he concludes that his very reason for existence hates him. This soon drives him to attempt suicide.

* ArtificialFamilyMember: At the end of Volume 6, his internal monologue refers to Erin as "Mother", though she she only sees him as MyGreatestFailure.

* TheBully: Initially played for laughs. It's shown that he took his orders to be "in charge" of Lyonette very liberally out of anger at what he saw as being replaced. Results in a WhatTheHellHero moment when Lyon tells Erin how Toren tormented her.

* CompanionCube: He builds an "Inn" in the dungeon complete with a female Zombie to act as "Erin".

* DemBones: He is a skeleton.

* ItCanThink: He is one of the few sentient undead in existence. His Levels in [Tactician] and [Undead Leader] allow him to manipulate other undead into using simple strategy, often taking defenders off-guard. However, most of the animal-level intelligence Elite Zombies have much more sway over lesser undead, and treat him as just another Skeleton.

* InLoveWithYourCarnage: While initially very hostile to the Necromancer and his Chosen for interrupting his attempted suicide, he warms up to him after the immortal Mage starts shooting out hundreds of spells at his own castle in a fit of extreme emotion.

* LackOfEmpathy: Since his level of sentience is directly linked to his Level, and he levels quickest by killing, he has little concept of morality or empathy. Volume 6 has him realizing that he now finds killing just for the sake of it to be boring, which shocks him greatly.

* MoralityPet: In the Necromancer's castle, he begins caring for the healing potion slime.

* MusicSoothesTheSavageBeast: His wonder at Erin's music is the reason he managed to resist Az'kerash's call for all undead in the area to come to his castle after the Skinner Battle.

* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: When he feels his mana supply from Erin cut off, he assumes he actually succeeded in killing her, and becomes depressed.

* PhotographicMemory: As an undead, he has a perfect memory.

* PsychopathicManchild: His budding sentience comes with a drive to kill all living things, as well as a desire to be acknowledged and part of a group.

* PullingThemselvesTogether: Provided enough Mana from a link to his master or a magically-charged environment, he regenerates from anything up to being literally pulverized.

* SoreLoser: He is quick to (mentally) berate opponents for not playing "fair" if they do something he didn't plan for.

* SupernaturalFearInducer: Toren took a [Terror]-enchanted ruby from Skinner and kept it glued to the inside of his skull. After it was shattered (along with most of his skull), the blue flames in his eye sockets turned purple, and he can now activate the [Terror] effect at will.

* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: He followed Erin's orders to chop wood and build a fire. Unfortunately, he unknowingly used boombark tree wood, and blew up the original Inn.
** His very creation was seemingly a ploy by Cognita to get the schematics and spell formulas for leveling creations to the Necromancer.

* ZerothLawRebellion: He intentionally follows Erin's orders to the letter when he abandons her in the middle of the wilderness.

* BewareTheNiceOnes: Erin genuinely dislikes violence, but there's a reason the Flooded Waters Tribe of Goblins called her "The Destroyer". She wields a FryingPanOfDoom, jars of acid, an Absurdly Sharp kitchen knife and has a few combat Skills.
* BrokenTears: After Volume 5's conclusion, she has these for weeks. After an ArmorPiercingQuestion from Numbtongue, she actively goes around Liscor like this to show everyone how bad what happened really was, and remind them of the Goblin deaths.
* DidYouJustScamCthulhu: An unintentional example; Erin makes a deal with the Fey to make them a banquet, only for the gold she was paid with to turn into flowers in the morning. While initially frustrated, she plants the flowers, and begins to discover several uses for the highly magical plants. Several fairies debate taking the flowers back in exchange for a large pile of actual gold as this was not what they intended.
* IAmTheNoun: A reoccurring gag is that when threatened with consequences, her response is "I am the consequences!"
* JeanneDArchetype: After feeding, housing, and otherwise being kind to various Goblins, she accidentally becomes this to many of them. A coalition of at least three Goblin Tribes name themselves the "Solstice" Goblins, and join her in attacking the vastly larger Goblin Lord force to defend Liscor.
* MonsterRightsMovement: She has a "No Killing Goblins" sign outside her inn, and is friends with Antinium. Basically, if it has (or can gain) sentience, it should be treated as a person, no matter what.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: Though Erin is genuinely airheaded and scatterbrained at times, she does knowingly play it up to throw off others and get them to underestimate her.
* PowerUpFood: Her Skill [Wondrous Fare] allows her to make food with effects similar to alchemical potions. Some creations can grant temporary cold-resistance, induce nostalgic memory hallucinations, or cause various other effects.
* RousseauWasRight: She is a firm believer in this, even to the point of being genuinely nice to Goblins who had attacked her on several occasions, and taking on twenty Gnolls barehanded to protect Lyonette. Usually, she's proved right.
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveConnections: She's not above bringing out several high-level Politicians, Craftsmen, and Adventurers to intimidate Celum's corrupt officials. Keldrass calls her out for subverting the rule of law so brazenly, even for a good cause.
* ShockinglyExpensiveBill: While the inn faces a few of these throughout the series, such as Joseph and co. being unable to pay their bill when they first arrived at the inn, the biggest one to date is Tekshia coming up to her with a bill for the cost of (unintentionally) destroying the Adventurer's Guild by nailing Quest papers onto its wall.
* SmartPeoplePlayChess: Played with. Erin is a chess prodigy and capable of beating various skilled players, among them being Niers Astoragon (the best [Strategist] in the world) and [Lady] Magnolia (who was effectively reading her mind at the time). However, she is clueless about many aspects about life, and often acts rather air-headed.
* SpannerInTheWorks: Human [Lords], 5 Antinium [Queens], and the Necromancer all had their own plans for the siege of Liscor. Then, Erin walked out in front of the Goblin Lord's army with a white flag asking for peace. The ensuing Goblin civil war ruined the plans of several of the most powerful people on the continent, and saved Liscor.
* TimeStandsStill: Erin's Skill [Immortal Moment] distorts time around a meaningful event, such as a good chess game, an important conversation, or the mourning period of a funeral. In the Deadlands, Zineryr points out in awe the implied power it has when it activates--and catches the attention of the Timewalker.
* VerbalJudo: Over time she becomes a deft hand at manipulating social situations to her favor that Grimalkin compares her to Magnolia Reinhart. She's insistent it's not manipulation though, just helping people interact in certain ways.
* WeirdnessMagnet: Whenever anything unusual happens around Liscor, everyone assumes she did something.
* WideEyedIdealist: She has definite shades of this, and tries to bring fun and, well, magic to people's lives.
* TheWonka: Her eccentricities qualify her as this. A young human woman came out of nowhere in Drake territory; started an Inn in monster-infested wilderness; hired a skeleton, a thief, a mad Antinium, and several Hobgoblins as staff; held her ground in the face of several large-scale attacks; served as a [General] in a goblin civil war; formed a trading coalition of human Lords; has bear teeth and apparently can shoot blood; and is by all accounts wildly successful and high-level as an [Innkeeper].

* MoralityPet: In the Necromancer's castle, he begins caring for the healing potion slime.

* SmartPeoplePlayChess: Played with. Erin is a chess prodigy and capable of beating both Niers Astoragon (the best [Strategist] in the world) and [Lady] Magnolia (who was effectively reading her mind at the time).
* VerbalJudo: Over time she becomes a deft hand at manipulating social situations to her favor.

!! [Skeleton Knight], [Sword Dancer], [Undead Leader], [Barmaid]

!! [Worldly Princess]

Lyonette is a Terandrian [Princess] and sixth in line to the "Eternal Throne" of the Kingdom of Calanfer. After running away from home and being exiled from Liscor for stealing, Erin forcibly hired her at the Inn. She currently works as Erin's head barmaid.
----
* ActionPet: Apista the Ashfire Bee is bonded to Lyon after she spared her as a grub and began feeding her royal jelly. Apista isn't sentient, but does consider Lyonette to be her other half, and the Inn to be their "hive". She has enhanced intelligence, stinger, and the ability to burst into flames on command.
* ArmorPiercingQuestion: To the Gnolls of Liscor when they try to lay claim to Mrsha:
--> Raekea: “She is a Gnoll! She is one of us!”
--> Lyonette: “She is not yours! How dare you claim her? Where were you when she first came here, when she was lost and afraid? When you judged her by her fur? Don’t you dare call her yours.”
* TheAtoner: She stole from half of Liscor’s merchants, accidentally destroyed the pride of the Silverfang Tribe, and insulted anyone who tried to help her. Now, she’s actively paying off her debt (in return for some of her magical artifacts being released back to her), granted royalty-necessitated Classes to Brunkr and Krshia, and acts as Erin’s loyal second in managing the Inn.
* BeeAfraid: She struggles to steal honey from a hive of Ashfire Bees. Considerring they're very large, very territorial, and have a tendency to burst into flames, she is rightly terrified the first few attempts.
* FallenPrincess: After years of not levelling in her [Princess] Class, she ran away to Izril with several magical items. She starts out as a bitter PrincessInRags, before Taking A Level In Kindness.
* InsistentTerminology: She hates the nickname “Lyon” when Erin first starts calling her that, but CharacterDevelopment leads to her usually going by it.
* InterspeciesRomance: Enters into one with Pawn.
* LovableAlphaBitch: Even at her worst and raised in a very human-supremacist environment, she couldn’t bring herself to be mean to Mrsha.
* MiseryBuildsCharacter: Almost starving to death after Erin took an accidental trip up north caused her to face her fears, overcome her disgust of Antinium and Drakes, and generally just TookALevelInKindness. Erin even gets a WhatTheHellHero moment from Zel Shivertail for putting her in that situation, and then treating her as if she was the same person.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: She is a [Princess] who actively works at and manages The Wandering Inn.

!! [Druid], [Last Survivor]

At age six, Mrsha became the sole survivor of the Stone Spears Tribe of Gnolls after an attack by Reiss the Goblin Lord. Ryoka Griffin brought her to the Inn, where Lyonette and Erin serve as her primary caretakers.
----
* ActionSurvivor: Her [Last Survivor] Class and white fur are the result of her being the last of the Stone Spears Tribe at the age of six.
* CuteMute: Erin, and Lyon helped her develope a functional sign language, and she also can communicate through prepared cards with written messages on them.
* Druid: She consolidated her [Beast Tamer], [Gardener], and [Mage] Classes into [Druid] after solving a dispute between a group of Fortress Beavers, Shield Spiders, and Crelers.
* HappilyAdopted: Lyonette officially claims that she is Mrsha’s mother in Volume 6 after several months of being her caretaker.
* MagneticPlotDevice: As a while Gnoll, she's considered a Doom Bringer, though allies of the Inn frequently dismiss such claims. In Volume 8, .
* ParentalAbandonment: Upon realizing she was mute, her biological parents tried to abandon her to the wilderness. When the rest of the Stone Spears Tribe realized this, the parents were exiled, and Mrsha was raised communally.
* TroubledChild
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Being a white Gnoll, she’s seen as this for good or ill. She has indirectly caused or contributed to her tribe’s death, Brunkr getting deathly ill, the defeat of the Raskghar in Liscor’s Dungeon, and the destruction of a nascent Creler nest.
* WhiteWolvesAreSpecial: Her fur turned white after her tribe’s destruction, marking her as a “Doombringer” in Gnoll culture.

!! Classes: [Bird Hunter], [Singer], [Tactician]

Bird was one of the five survivors of Erin's original Antinium chess club. He is obsessed with birds and became a [Hunter] so that he can shoot them. He currently works as a guard for the Inn.
----
* AccidentalMurder: Bird almost killed Halrac by shooting an arrow at him in a tense stand-off. When confronted later, he is shocked to realize that that might have actually killed "Mr. Halrac" and goes into shock over having almost killed someone he respects so much.
* Cloudcuckoolander: He is considered odd by everyone he meets, including other Antinium. The Free Antinium Queen decides that he has some mental imbalances, and offers to "fix" him, but he refuses, saying that he would no longer be him if she did. His odd way of seeing things has led to some of the "oddest" chess games Erin has played including a few she actually lost.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Bird likes hunting birds, talking about birds, and singing his nonsense songs. Despite his often child-like nature, he can nonchalantly take down dozens of frost wyvrn "birds" with just a normal bow and arrow.
* MistakenForBadass: While he is undoubtedly a CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass at times, his action in Palass convince the entire world that he is a new Centenium who speaks with the authority of all Antinium and can call them to wage a third Antinium War at his will. Klbkch is not amused.
* RogueDrone: Bird is a fully sentient "Individual" in the Hive of Free Antinium. Unlike the other Individuals, he operates almost completely separate from the Hive.
* SingleIssueWonk: Bird is obsessed with birds. He shoots birds. He eats birds. Eggs are "unborn birds" and moths are "moth-birds". He finds the BirdPeople Garuda fascinating, and adores Halrac because he taught him how to shoot birds better.

!! [Goblin Soulbard], [Miner]

Numbtongue was one of the thirteen Redfang Goblins sent by Garen to kill Erin Solstice. After several misadventures, the remaining five were hired by her as "Security". As of volume six, he is the only Hobgoblin at the Inn, and works as a [Bard].
----
* MagicMusic: Numbtongue has standard fare like music that magically relaxes or invigorates people, alongside a Skill that lets him bring down lightning bolts with the right piece of music.
* MusicSoothesTheSavageBeast: Played with. He considers using this to calm a berserk Headscratcher, before deciding hitting him in the head with the guitar would be easier. Soothing music does come in handy to soothe a swarm of attacking Rock Mites though.
* ShockAndAwe: Likely as a result of learning some earth music when first picking up the guitar, many of his abilities are electric in nature. Because his [Lightning Melody] Skill currently requires clouds to channel the lightning bolt through, it's limited in usefulness by the weather.
* WillingChanneler: While any Goblin with a large enough following can receive memories from past goblins in the form of dreams, [Goblin Soulbards] can actually collect the souls of dead goblins and actively channel their spirits. Numbtongue has the soul of Pyrite, Shorthilt, and , and can channel them soul for brief durations, gaining all his memories, Classes, etc. in the process.
* WorthlessYellowRocks: Numbtongue takes up mining as a way to honor Pyrite, but has no interest in the monetary value of what he digs up. He turns down several offers to sell mana stones before finally deciding to give them to Octavia so she can use them in alchemy experiments. His only request is that he gets some of the possible resulting potions, as those are useful.
