A former ice cream truck driver who rode out the apocalypse on a yacht. Has become an AxCrazy survivalist and conspiracy theorist, and is the only real antagonist that the show has had thus far.

* AffablyEvil: While he's a cannibalistic serial killer, he feels genuine remorse and wishes he could stop but finds the urges to be too powerful. While in prison, he develops a genuine friendship with a guard named Martinez. Though he kills Martinez after he tries to leave Karl to either starve or commit suicide after all the other guards had died, Karl feels great remorse about it and apologizes to his grave. Even the cast feel a bit of sympathy for Karl, knowing that he is plagued by guilt and cannot stop himself.

* BiTheWay: Has romances with Phil 2, Todd and as of the TimeSkip, Gail.

* BiTheWay: Gail is openly interested in men, attempting to sleep with Tandy, Phil and Todd. However, she ends up with Erica after the time skip in season Three.

* GrandmaWhatMassiveHotnessYouHave: Gail is in her sixties, but is still acknowledged to be very attractive and gets plenty of attention. It’s outright lampshaded by Phil in her first appearance calling her “a hot old lady”, not that she appreciates being called it

* SpoiledSweet: Pamela is a rich woman, dislikes the rations available in the bunker and is openly shocked and annoyed at how (from her perspective) small her bedroom in the bunker is. Nevertheless, she is a nice person who used her wealth to try to hold charitable events, such as helping dogs with broken legs.

* OutLivingOnesOffspring: A very sore point for Gail, [[spoiler:as her son died at some point before the virus.]] It’s partially due to that she is so unwilling to be Carol’s new mom.

* TookALevelInJerkass: Starting off as a nice guy who simply wants to help the others survive, his anger towards Tandy boils until he outright throws Tandy out into the desert to die. Afterwards, his inability to let go of his anger and his growing exasperation with others’ ungratefulness and stupidity, causes him to get more aggressive and nastier. He finally starts to get over it after Tandy saves him from drowning.
