* TheHunter: One member of a long line of people who have sworn to protect humans from werewolves, going back to the Beast of Gévaudan.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice[=/=]PinnedToTheWall: This happens to him in Season 4 courtesy of Peter Hale, whom he tracked down in the sewers. Fortunately, he gets saved by Parrish, who was also tracking Peter.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: With Parrish in Season 5.
* KnightTemplar: In Seasons 1 and 2, Chris genuinely sees his profession as the hunter as essential to the protection of human beings. He changes his mind after witnessing the destruction his father and sister cause, ultimately culminating in the deaths of his wife and daughter.
* KnightTemplarParent: After it's revealed Scott is a werewolf, he puts Scott at gunpoint - with the gun inches from Scott's face - to make Allison promise she won't see him again. The sole reason he hasn't followed through with his death threats is because he's gotten help from Scott before - well that and Allison would be devastated. His wife, not so much.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Starts feeling this in Season 2, after he helps his wife kill herself and his daughter begins to show signs of becoming a psychopath like his father and sister.
* NeverHurtAnInnocent: Essentially what his CodeOfHonor is, and yes, for him this also includes werewolves. As long as the werewolf isn't proven to be dangerous he will not hunt them down.

* OverprotectiveDad: Understandably so, considering his daughter is dating a werewolf. Though roughing the kid around, holding a gun to his face, right in front of his daughter reducing her to hysterics and tears might have been a little over the line.
* PapaWolf: Seriously, stay away from his daughter. Especially romantically; he ''will'' shoot you.
* RetiredBadass: He gives up on the hunting business between seasons 2 and 3, due to the strain on his family.
* TheStoic: Being a Hunter pretty much requires you to be stoic and pragmatic. Even when off the job in Season 3 he still manages to take most of the drastic twists in stride. In "The Divine Move" he says he's always had an ability to suppress his emotions.
* TeamDad: Alongside Sheriff Stilinski, they're both sensible authority figures who look after the teenage protagonists (and sometimes fight alongside them).
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: In Seasons 1 and 2, with Scott. Less and less as the series goes on. In Season 4, his deal with the Calaveras has hints of this.
* TookALevelInKindness: Chris is initially the AntiVillain where he'll intimidate and maim werewolves believing it's essential to protect humanity - though he strictly believes in [[NeverHurtAnInnocent not killing]] if said werewolf proves not to be dangerous. He'd take the chance to [[KickTheDog being hostile]] towards people like Derek Hale. He had every intention of killing Scott, refusing to conscience his daughter dating a werewolf. Though after MyGodWhatHaveIDone and BeingEvilSucks, he comes to seeing some of them as valuable allies, he comes to be more amiable and accepting of his daughter's friends being only slightly irked when Allison starts dating "Another werewolf" - Isaac. He wholeheartedly agrees with his daughter's changing their code to guardians, even to supernaturals. He even comes to view Derek as an ally. When [[SacrificialLion his daughter dies saving her friends from the Nogitsune]], he gives a devastated Isaac ''a hug'' and later on though devastated himself he becomes TheFettered in upholding Allison's Code of "protecting those who cannot protect themselves."
* TraumaCongaLine: Loses his sister Kate in Season 1, has to help his wife commit suicide and realizes his father is a genocidal monster in Season 2, loses his daughter in Season 3, and finds out his sister isn't dead but has turned into a murderous were jaguar in Season 4. No wonder he's [[DespairEventHorizon giving up on life]].
* UnwittingPawn: In Season 2, Gerard plays him like a fiddle despite Chris's misgivings about his father's apparent genocidal attitude towards werewolves. But the kicker is that it is only after Chris helps his wife commit suicide because she has been bitten by a werewolf and will soon become one, something Gerard insisted that he do, that Chris learns that Gerard has been planning to become a werewolf himself in order to survive terminal cancer.
