King Farouk was once a young man enthusiastic about modernizing his country, but the days have passed, and now Farouk only wishes to live out the rest of his life as an exciting party. Farouk had totally removed himself from the political responsibilities of the Kingdom, and spends his days traveling and partying, making every moment a wild one. His habits made him a massive sinkhole for the Egyptian treasury, as he spends vast sums of money on luxuries while the economy still struggles to develop. Farouk might not be actively malicious, but he does want to ignore the stresses of politics and stay happy, and his behavior is definitely not a sustainable one.

When Viceroy Amedeo dies, and his chosen successor goes missing, the powerful and ambitious businessman Enrico Mattei assumed the de facto viceroy position with support from Rome and his mercenaries. Mattei had a rapid rise through the ranks of the National Fascist Party with his successes in running the Italian oil monopoly, and was considered the only man able to make Italian East Africa turn a profit. Now in charge of Italian East Africa, Mattei has big plans for the colony that can send its profits sky high, with some necessary sacrifices from the locals of course. The reform-minded Italian government might not approve of Mattei's actions, but Mattei's ambitions are far beyond that of a normal businessman, and he's definitely not willing to go down easily.

Politics is a serious, drawn out, and often boring matter for the King, and as such he ignores it. He would rather be happy himself than stress about what the world wishes for him to do.''
