** Once Fire Heart gets his fire magic, he shows to have enough control over it to help Flash and the rest of his team fight the cultists.
** When hanging out with Button Mash and Rumble, Heart also shows to be very good at playing video games. Enough to beat both of them in a racing game despite having never heard of video games until that day. He claims it is simply a matter of having good hoof-eye coordination.

* ChildHater: Downplayed and {{played for laughs}} with both of them. Due to the two of them helping to take care of Flurry Heart while her magic was out of control, and getting just as battered as everyone else during it, they both began to grow a dislike for babies. !! Deities '''(Spoilers)'''

Powerful entities that are responsible for the creation of Equestria.
----
[[folder:Sacred Light]]
An entity that is the source of Flash Sentry's powers.
----
* CreatorsFavorite: An InUniverse example. Of all of the beings it created, it favored the Jakhowls the most.
* GodInHumanForm: Like the Corrupted Shadow, it wished to experience the world it helped create and made a physical form for itself, abandoning most of its power. Thus, it became the first alicorn.
* LightDarknessJuxtaposition: It's the light that juxtaposes with the Corrupted Shadow's darkness.
* LightIsGood: Downplayed. Although it does serve as the source of Flash Sentry's powers and is composed of light energy, Faust also mentions that it was usually the more aggressive one between it and the Corrupted Shadow.
* TheMaker: It helped create life in Equestria, which started with single-celled organisms to more complex beings.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Corrupted Shadow]]
An entity that serves as the antithesis to the Sacred Light and the source of Shadow Corrupter's power.
----
* DarkIsEvil: Downplayed. Although it is the source of Shadow Corrupter's power and is composed of dark energy, Faust also mentions that it is the gentler one between it and the Sacred Light.
* GodInHumanForm: Like the Sacred Light, it wished to experience the world it helped create and made a physical form for itself, abandoning most of its power. Thus, it became the first umbrum.
* GodOfEvil: Surprisingly subverted. Even though it is composed of dark energy, it isn't actively malicious and only really serves as a balance to the light energy of the Sacred Light.
* GreaterScopeVillain: Could be considered this for the entire series. For all the good the Sacred Light does, the Corrupted Shadow needs to balance it, which led to the creation of species like the umbrum and Tricksters, whom would become antagonists throughout the series. Not that the Corrupted Shadow is actively malicious, though.
* LightDarknessJuxtaposition: It's the dark that juxtaposes with the Sacred Light.
* TheMaker: Like the Sacred Light, it helped create life in Equestria.
* OldShame: An InUniverse example. To balance the Sacred Light's creation of the Jakhowls, the Corrupted Shadow created the Tricksters, which were supposed to be jakhowls that could use magic. However, the Tricksters became malicious creatures and the Corrupter Shadow always deemed them to be a failure.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: It created the umbrum, whom slowly fell to evil and waged a conflict to conquer the world, until they were defeated by the alicorns.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Faust]]
The god of creation.
----
* AboveTheGods: She was the one who created the universe in the first place and on a higher league than both the Sacred Light and Corrupted Shadow.
* BalanceBetweenGoodAndEvil: She needs to do this or else the universe would collapse in on itself. Hence, she created the Sacred Light and Corrupted Shadow to balance each other.
* {{God}}: She's the literal creator of the universe.
* MrsExposition: She explains the entire creation of Equestria to Flash Sentry, Shadow Corrupter, and King Sombra in "Genesis."

* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Downplayed with Shining Soul. It is eventually revealed in "Genesis" that [[spoiler:Faust made her an alicorn so that she could use her to communicate with Flash and Shadow's teams when they first arrived in the city, intending to explain the rules to them and the reason they were all there from the start. However, because Soul was scared of her new alicorn powers due to accidentally hurting her brother, she didn't accept them by the time both teams arrived in the city, preventing Faust from properly communicating with everyone. Soul finally accepted her powers when she beat Shadow, but by then it was too late for Faust to explain anything to everyone]].

!! Flash’s Family

Flash Sentry’s adopted and biological family.

[[folder:Scootaloo]]
One of the Cutie Mark Crusaders and later revealed to be Flash Sentry's sister.
----
* AscendedExtra: In canon Scootaloo was just one of the Cutie Mark Crusaders, a group of supporting characters, and she was the one that took the longest to have a focus episode or have her backstory explored. Here, she is revealed to be [[RelatedInTheAdaptation Flash’s long-lost little sister]] and thus has much more focus than she originally did in canon, moreso than the other Crusaders.
* EasilyForgiven: When she reunited with her birth parents, Trail Blazer and Misty Veil, she holds no grudge against them for leaving her and Flash at separate orphanages and for being out of their lives for several years, unlike Flash [[CallingTheOldManOut who tears into them for what they did to him]] and everyone else they meet who always bring up how they essentially abandoned their kids. She is just happy to have them in her life and quickly bonds with both of them.
* HideYourChildren: Like the other Crusaders, she wants to witness the Royal Knights and Mane Seven in battle, but she's usually taken away somewhere else for her own safety to be supervised by another adult.
* RelatedInTheAdaptation: She and Flash are revealed to be siblings, while in canon no connection between them is ever established.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Misty Veil and Trail Blazer]]
Flash Sentry's biological parents.
----
* AdventureArchaeologist: They explore lost and hidden ruins, searching for the origins of life in the world.
* BadassNormal: Trail Blazer is just a normal pegasus, unlike his son, and he can’t use magic like Misty Veil. But that won’t stop him from taking on timber wolves to protect his wife and daughter.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Everyone who meets them are not particularly happy to see them. When they first met them, the Mane Six all called them out on their abandonment of Flash and Scootaloo.
* InterspeciesRomance: Misty Veil is a unicorn, while Trail Blazer is a pegasus.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: They had lost their memories on the circumstances of Flash and Scootaloo’s births. [[spoiler:''The Knight of Friendship'' reveals that whatever was causing it was removed when Tirek stole their magic.]]
* LukeIAmYourFather: They reveal themselves to Flash and Scootaloo in season 4 when Misty Veil stops having visions. While Scootaloo was excited to see them, Flash... [[CallingTheOldManOut Was not]].
* OriginalCharacter: At least for Scootaloo, they replace Snap Shutter and Mane Allgood as her parents. According to WordOfGod, Snap and Mane still exist in this universe, but were close friends with Trail and Misty, so they were asked to adopt Scootaloo. They didn't adopt Flash Sentry because it was still believed that he died in the orphanage fire.
* {{Seers}}: Misty Veil was born with the ability to see into the future. She was only able to see up to a certain point however, and she was somehow unable to see King Sombra in her visions.
* VaguenessIsComing: Misty Veil’s final vision involves an armored stallion with wings and a horn.

The Princess of Love and Captain of the Royal Guard respectively, in which the former is an honorary family member (later sister-in-law) and the latter is a sibling to Flash and Twilight.
----
* AccidentallyAccurate: When Hiveena is being transported to the new prison north of the Crystal Empire and she warns she will find a way out, Shining Armor [[SarcasmMode mockingly says]] that when she does she can come have dinner with him and Cadance in the Crystal Empire. Once Hiveena is released from prison under terms for a truce thanks to Thorax, she actually does end up having dinner with Shining Armor and Cadance, with Hiveena even lampshading that Shining Armor "kept his promise".
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: In canon, they did not appear until the season 2 finale. Here, they appear in the very beginning of the series, ''The Element of Courage''.
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: Everyone, but Twilight, knew that they were dating because of how they made goo-goo eyes at each other.
* HenpeckedHusband: PlayedForLaughs at the end of ''The Knight Of Friendship''. After Shining Armor learns that Flash and Twilight are now dating, he claims [[ObliviousToLove he had no idea they felt that way about each other]] mirroring the same attitude they both had for most of the series up to that point, while [[EveryoneCanSeeIt everyone else figured it out a long time ago]]. Cadance responds to his obliviousness by pulling him by the ear with her magic and telling him they need to have a talk about “how ignorant he is”.
* ItRunsInTheFamily: When Shining Armor finds out at the last second that Flash and Twilight are now in a relationship and admits he had no clue they felt that way about each other, Cadance angrily uses her magic to [[EarAche pull him by the ear]] and drag him away while calling him a Meathead. Everyone else is left to think that it runs in Twilight’s family.
* ItsAllABoutMe: PlayedForLaughs with Cadance. During ''The Knight of Friendship'' there are times when it seems like she wants to help Twilight and Flash get together more for herself than for them. Such as wanting to finally "fix her [[MyGreatestFailure greatest failure]]" by finally getting them together. She eventually relents, but says that as payback she wants photos of their first date together, she gets to officiate their wedding, and they need to name their first born daughter "Cadance".]]
* MyGreatestFailure: Cadance spent years trying to get Twilight Sparkle and Flash Sentry to realize their feelings for one another, but she eventually gave up on them. [[spoiler:Later on in ''The Knight Of Friendship'', she considers not being there when Twilight and Flash finally realized their feelings for each other to be her new greatest failure.]]
* NotSoDifferent: Their relationship is similar to that of Flash and Twilight, where one is a member of the Royal Guard and one is an alicorn princess and both eventually fall in love with each other. The ending of ''The Knight Of Friendship'' shows even more of this when Cadance angrily uses her magic to [[EarAche pull Shining by the ear]] and drag him away while calling him a Meathead when she gets annoyed by him, similar to what Twilight does with Flash [[RunningGag throughout the series]].
* ObliviousToLove: Downplayed with Shining Armor. He had no issue discovering with his feeling for Cadance or understanding that she felt the same way about him, but he was completely clueless about how his sister Twilight and adopted brother Flash felt about each other. He is the last one to discover they have feelings for each other and that they finally started dating in ''The Knight Of Friendship'' and is completely shocked by it.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Cadance was willing to trust Thorax when he arrived at the Crystal Empire, as well as releasing Hiveena from prison. Shining Armor, not so much.
* SecretRelationship: {{Defied}}. They were barely even trying to keep their relationship a secret, but everyone, sans Twilight, could tell because of how they made goo-goo eyes at each other.
* ShipperOnDeck: Cadnace spent years trying to get Twilight and Flash to hook up, but their ObliviousToLove made it outright impossible. [[spoiler:With some help from Twilight’s friends, she was finally able to get Twilight to realize that she romantically loved Flash.]]
* TearsOfJoy: [[spoiler: {{Defied}}. After learning that Twilight and Flash are finally romantically involved, Cadance starts sobbing, but claims she isn't crying because she is happy. Flash Sentry's adoptive parents.
----
* DeathGlare: Twilight Velvet gives one to Misty Veil and Trail Blazer when she first meets them in ''The Knight of Friendship''.
* InterspeciesAdoption: They are two unicorns who accept Flash Sentry, a pegasus, into their family and love him as if he were their own son.
* ParentalSubstitute: They acted as Flash's parents for him growing up after he joins their family.
* WhatTheHellHero: Twilight Velvet is not happy to meet Misty Veil and Trail Blazer in ''The Knight of Friendship''. She calls them out for abandoning their children, and does not accept their reasonings for doing so.

!! Supporting Characters

Major characters who support Flash and the others throughout the series.

[[folder:Princess Celestia and Princess Luna]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/c7109338_5a38_4421_ab41_c84d556de5af.jpeg]]
The two alicorn sisters who lead Equestria together.
----
* AdaptationalAngstUpgrade: Princess Luna was close friends with Sharp Paw and the other Jakhowls, so she was devastated when [[spoiler:they were all wiped out by Dark Mist.]]
* AdaptationalBackstoryChange: Downplayed. While Starswirl still found Celestia and Luna when they were younger, they were found in the Lost City of Faust, which seems to be the origin of all natural-born alicorns.
* AngerBornOfWorry: Luna is not happy when she finds out that Trixie was studying and practicing dream magic. She explains that the dream realm is too dangerous for anyone but her to explore and that Trixie could accidentally trap herself there forever. She calms down when Trixie explains she was learning it to try to help her with her duties and help ease the load off her, as thanks for all she has done for her.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Two moment with her in "Princess Twilight Sparkle" and "The Tree of Harmony" foreshadow the fate of Jakhowls and Springer's origins.
** In the former, when Twilight sees the flashback of when Luna first became Nightmare Moon, Luna angrily screams at Celestia how "they're all gone" and "she doesn't know who they are" when accusing Celestia she doesn't care about them. This alludes to [[spoiler:the near genocide the Jakhowls suffered that wiped out all but one egg, and how Luna had her memories locked away of them to try to cope with the loss]].
** In the latter, after the Tree of Harmony produces the mysterious box and everyone else leaves, Luna stays behind for a moment and notices a small grove in the Tree of Harmony that wasn't originally there when she and Celestia first took the Elements of Harmony from it. This alludes to [[spoiler:Springer's birth, since his egg was put inside the Tree of Harmony long ago to hatch when it was safe, and he only recently hatched following Nightmare Moon's defeat]].
* HardDrinkingPartyGirl: Princess Luna is implied to be this. She likes to take Ruby Scarlet (and later Trixie) to "go out for drinks" and, given Trixie's fearful reactions to these occasions, the results are not pretty. It doesn't help that many new drinks were invented in the thousand years that she was gone, making her more eager to drink.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: In the final chapter of ''The Forgotten Darkness'', Luna reveals she can't actually remember anything about the Jakhowls, and she is only barely able to remember Sharp Paw because he was her partner. Celestia quickly realizes that [[spoiler:there is a magical lock on Luna's brain preventing her from remembering, and once it is undone all the memories come back to her at once. She also remembers she agreed to have it put on her in the first place by a mysterious golden figure to help her cope with her grief of losing them all]].
* LikeADaughterToMe: Similar to Celestia's relationship with Twilight Sparkle, Luna has a very affectionate relationship with both Ruby Scarlet and Trixie, in which she is worried about how they'll be when they leave to the Lost City of Faust and she even states that she's come to view Trixie like a daughter.
* TheMentor:
** Celestia serves as a secondary mentor to Flash.
** Luna is Ruby and Trixie's mentor.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Princess Celestia, as usual. When Shining Armor catches Flash Sentry when he was a thief, Celestia is sympathetic to Flash since he's a homeless orphan who had to do whatever he could to survive and offers to find him a new home, which Twilight's family accepts.
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: Princess Luna constantly supports Trixie while teaching her and helps her overcome her InferioritySuperiorityComplex. This is best shown in "Kamen Pony", where she tells Trixie she is never going to give up on her and that the two of them can unearth her greatness.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Apple Bloom]]
Applejack's little sister and one of the Cutie Mark Crusaders.
----
* AdaptationalDumbass: She's more explicitly impulsive here. While her decision to consume Zecora's brew in "Cutie Pox" was reckless, she never received any warnings about consuming it, so it could be argued that she was just unaware of the consequences of her actions. In this series, she receives numerous warnings from Springer about how it could be dangerous and how it could have side effects due to being incomplete, yet Apple Bloom still consumes the brew anyways.
* TheAtoner: Despite being sent away by Flash during his search for Zecora, she disobeys him and follows along because she feels that her earlier trailing of Zecora caused the rest of the Mane Seven to come into contact with the Poison Joke flowers and thus she blames herself for their conditions, so she's dedicated to reversing her mistake.
* HideYourChildren: Although she wants to witness the Royal Knights and the Mane Seven in action, she's sent away someplace safer, usually supervised by another non-action adult like Trail Blazer and Misty Veil.
* UndyingLoyalty: To the other Cutie Mark Crusaders. This is best demonstrated when Scootaloo is attacked and stung by a Scorpentine, but while Cheerilee and the other foals flee, Apple Bloom stays by Scootaloo's side with Sweetie Belle, even though Scootaloo is too heavy for them to carry.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Sweetie Belle]]
Rarity's little sister and one of the Cutie Mark Crusaders.
* AdaptationalWimp: In canon, she was able to singlehandedly carry Rarity on her sofa during their camping trip in "Sleepless in Ponyville." Here, Springer helps her carry Rarity and her sofa and both aren't making much more progress than Sweetie Belle did in canon.
* HideYourChildren: Like the other Crusaders, she often gets taken someplace safe whenever the Royal Knights and Mane Seven go on a dangerous adventure, much to Sweetie Belle's ire.
* KidHasAPoint: Before Flash's trial to become a Royal Knight, most of his friends express excitement with Flash becoming a knight, but Sweetie Belle raises the possibility that he might not achieve that rank if he fails the test. Although her point is largely dismissed, it later gets proven right when Flash is beaten by Cold Steel and thus can't be promoted to a Royal Knight.
* UndyingLoyalty: To the other Cutie Mark Crusaders. This is best demonstrated when Scootaloo is attacked and stung by a Scorpentine, but while Cheerilee and the other foals flee, Sweetie Belle stays by Scootaloo's side with Apple Bloom, putting herself in danger for Scootaloo.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Zecora]]
A zebra who lives in the Everfree Forest and engages in alchemy.
----
* BerserkButton: A minor one with others questioning her rhyming behavior, which is shown when Springer asks whether her rhyming is natural behavior for Zebras or if Zecore practices her rhyming.
* NotSoDifferent: She is similar to Flash in that they were both seen as outsiders to other ponies due to being different, who nobody wanted anything to do with and only saw the worst in. This caused Flash to be the first one to approach her and speak to her, and refused to believe anything bad about her without actual proof.

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/52ee0aa0_d936_42b1_8610_0fba203824f6.png]]
An emotionally vulnerable pony that put on a boastful veneer, until she meets Flash Sentry and later becomes Princess Luna's apprentice.
----
* AdaptationalAngstUpgrade: Trixie's father sent her to the Manehatten Institute for Magical Learning, [[BlatantLies but Trixie's magical abilities were so advanced that the school had nothing left to teach her]]. Or at least that is what she claims at first. In reality, she couldn't meet the high expectations of the school. As a result, she was forced to drop out and disappoint her father, so she traveled around Equestria in the hopes of receiving the praise she never got from her father.
* AdaptationalBadass: In canon she was only a traveling magician who relied entirely on her own tricks. She resorted to cheating using the Alicorn Amulet to stand a chance against Twilight, and didn’t improve on actual magic until she started getting magic lessons from Starlight in season seven but still regularly struggled with more advanced spells. Here, she becomes Princesses Luna’s personal student in season one and quickly learns other forms of magic much quicker, including [[AnIcePerson ice magic]] and [[DreamWalker dream magic]].
* AdaptationalHeroism: In canon, she remained a minor antagonist for her first few appearances and didn’t become better until becoming friends with Starlight. Here, she changes much quicker thanks to her friendship with Flash, and ends up becoming Princess Luna’s student.
* AscendedExtra: In canon, she didn’t become a regular occurring character until season six. Here, she becomes a regular occurring character in season one.
* CantCatchUp: She views herself as a rival to Twilight Sparkle, and when she became an alicorn, she saw this as a sign that she will never be on Twilight’s level.
* DreamWalker: Its revealed in “Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep”, that she started teaching herself dream magic in order to help Luna out with her duties of looking over dreams.
* EurekaMoment: [[spoiler:She manages to use a few small clues she noticed while fighting Terror Card, such as the glow in her eyes, the way she reaches for one card before stopping and grabbing another, how she is so difficult to hit, and the way Terror says she “sees everything”, to figure out that Terror can [[{{Seers}} see the future]]. She also realizes this ability has limits, since Soarin and Cold managed to beat her previously.]]
* FreudianExcuse: She initially puts on a boastful veneer because she dropped out of the Manehatten Institute for Magical Learning, which disappointed her father, so Trixie tries to show off during her shows to receive some form of praise elsewhere.
* FriendToAllChildren: Acts extremely friendly to Shining Soul and Fire Heart, using her skills as a performer to impress them and easily win them over.
* FromZeroToHero: Despite coming from a long line of successful unicorn, capable of being traced back to Starswirl the Bearded himself, she started out very unremarkable. She ended up dropping out of the Manehatten School of Magic, which her father was a teacher at, because she couldn't meet their expectations. She became a showmare and traveled from city to city, boasting about her great "abilities", or outright lying in some cases, in order to [[WellDoneSonGuy get the praise her father never gave her]]. Her life eventually changed for the better when she met and befriended Flash, which eventually led to her becoming Princess Luna's personal student.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: During “Kamen Pony”, she reveals to Springer and Flash that she always saw herself as a rival to Twilight, and Luna helped her to become better at magic. But when Twilight became an Alicorn, she saw it as a sign that she [[CantCatchUp will never match]] Twilight, and it lead to her falling behind on her studies.
* AnIcePerson: She started learning ice magic after she had an adventure in an enchanted comic in “Kamen Pony”.
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: She became a showmare because she wanted to be praised by other ponies, when she dropped out of the Manehatten School of Magic, because she couldn’t meet their expectations.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: Forms one with Ruby. They both get along well since they were both students of Princess Luna.
* LikeADaughterToMe: Similar to Twilight's relationship with Celestia, Trixie eventually develops this with her mentor Princess Luna. Before Trixie leaves on an important mission to the Lost City of Faust with Flash and a few others, Luna tells her she has come to see her as a daughter.
* LoveTriangle: She briefly partakes in one between herself and Twilight for Flash. She tells Twilight she has plans to ask out Flash on a date during "Magic Duel", which causes Twilight to become [[GreenEyedMonster jealous of her]]. Though Trixie bows out when she and Twilight realize Flash is [[ObliviousToLove clueless about both of their feelings for him]] and she decides to wait a bit longer before asking him out. Though she gives Twilight a friendly warning that she better ask Flash out herself eventually, because she won’t wait forever. [[spoiler:Twilight and Flash do eventually become a couple, dropping this plot point.]]
* MesACrowd: ''War of the Lost City'' shows that she can create illusions of herself to make a small army of herself.
* NiceGirl: Unlike her [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold canon self]], this version of Trixie is extremely friendly and her boastful attitude was just a veneer that she drops after "Boast Busters."
* OhCrap: Unlike [[HardDrinkingPartyGirl Princess Luna and Ruby Scarlet]], she does not particularly enjoy when the three of them "go out for drinks" together. She has very terrified memories of the occasion, and when Luna and Ruby agree to do it again once Trixie and Ruby come back from the Lost City of Faust, Trixie can only mutter a horrified "[[OhNoNotAgain not again]]" and [[WideEyesAndShrunkenIrises her eyes shrink]] at the news.
* RelatedInTheAdaptation: She claims her family tree can be traced all the way back to Starswirl The Bearded.
* TeleportationSpam: She is seen capable of performing multiple {{teleportation}} spells in quick succession when battling the cultists in ''War of the Lost City''. She frequently uses it to either get herself out of danger or teleport her teammates to help them fight their enemies. She at one point managed to pull back to back teleportation spells on Soarin to perform a HitAndRunTactics against Terror Card and Searing Salix.
* WellDoneSonGuy: Her father was one of the teachers at the Manehatten School of Magic, but when she couldn’t meet their expectations, she dropped out and became a showmare to get the praise that her father never gave her.
* WomanScorned: PlayedForLaughs; in "Magic Duel" she makes plans to ask Flash out on a date after learning that he and Twilight are not dating. However, when Flash talks to Twilight about her [[GreenEyedMonster jealousy towards Trixie]], he ends up revealing that he has no clue about either of their feelings and attraction towards him and only thinks Twilight is jealous that Trixie is endangering her status as the princess's number one student. Trixie is so enraged over his [[ObliviousToLove cluelessness]] that she and Twilight viciously attack him and beat him offscreen. She also decides to hold off on her plans to ask him out after that. Though ultimately downplayed since she warns Twilight she better make a move on Flash soon, because she won't wait forever, implying she still has a crush on Flash despite the incident, and she still remains good friends with Flash afterwards, even when [[spoiler:he and Twilight officially become a couple]].

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/b77e41af_7689_46a2_9f6c_396ce378bb41.png]]
A member of the Wonderbolts and Flash Sentry's best friend.
----
* AdaptationalContextChange: Him clipping his wing in "Rainbow Falls" is changed slightly. Instead of being [[DistractedByTheSexy distracted by a pair of Cloudsdale cheerleaders]], some sun just happens to get in his eyes while his goggles are off, making it more a case of bad luck than inattentiveness. This was also likely changed due to him and Rainbow Dash already being in a relationship by this point.
* AlliterativeName: '''S'''oarin '''S'''kies
* AscendedExtra: He was just a supporting Wonderbolt in canon, receiving a few speaking lines in a few episodes but never really being the main focus of any episode. Here, he is best friends with Flash Sentry, introduces the Theta State, and he and Rainbow Dash have plenty of ShipTease moments together to the point they [[spoiler:become a couple]].
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Rainbow. Both are skilled flyers, a part of the Wonderbolts, and loud snorers.
* BrokenPedestal: Wind Rider was the pegasus who inspired him to become a Wonderbolt when he was a colt, and saw him as his hero. After finding out that he framed Rainbow Dash to protect his record, he stopped looking up to him, and had him punished for his actions.
* ButtMonkey: Downplayed in ''War of the Lost City''. Most members of the Cult of Shadow belittle and underestimate him, thinking that he's the weakest member of Flash's team. Even Cold Steel tends to disrespect him, believing that he's more of a stunt pony than a fighter. However, Soarin is able to handle his own throughout the story and uses his agility to good use against the Cult of Shadow.
* ADayInTheLimelight: Soarin, thanks to getting [[AscendedExtra more focus than in canon]] gets a few chapters with him as the main focus.
** "The Skies the Limit" has him come to Ponyville during a week long vacation to meet with Flash and have a chance to get closer to his crush Rainbow. He also introduces the Theta State, which becomes an important ChekhovsGun for the remainder of the season.
** "Wonderbolts Academy" has him present during Rainbow's training at the academy, and [[ForWantOfANail he convinces Spitfire]] to make Rainbow the lead pony instead of Lightning Dust.
** "Rarity Investigates" primarily follows his point of view, where he defends Rainbow Dash from the accusations that she sent Spitfire away to take her spot while arguing with his former idol and mentor Wind Rider, and reflecting on his past with Wind Rider.
** He is one of the ones chosen to go to The Lost City of Faust as part of Flash's team for ''War of the Lost City''. Later in "A Thief's Tale", [[spoiler:he finally manages to win a fight by himself, gaining the Theta Mode and using it to defeat Wingill and force Terror Card to retreat]].
* FirstKiss: [[spoiler:He and Rainbow share their first kiss together at the end of "Wonderbolt Academy, after he encourages Rainbow when she starts to feel stressed about being a lead-pony.]]
* ForWantOfANail:
** His presence during the events of "Wonderbolt Academy", leads to Rainbow Dash being made a lead-pony instead of Lightning Dust.
** Thanks to being in a relationship with Rainbow Dash, he’s not as harsh towards her in "Rarity Investigates" when she gets framed by Wind Rider, and he makes sure that the rest of the Wonderbolts don’t jump to conclusions like they did in canon.
* FromZeroToHero: He started out as a very weak flyer, but dreamed of joining the Wonderbolts once he saw them perform. Nobody supported his dream though, not even his own parents, but he never stopped training. He eventually entered and won the Best Young Flyers Competition and got to meet his personal hero, Wind Rider, who encouraged his dream, and he got his cutie mark from it. In the Present he is now second-in-command of the Wonderbolts and one of the best flyers in all of Equestria.
* NamedByTheAdaptation: Soarin has no last name in canon, here his full name is [[AlliterativeName Soarin Skies]].
* OfficialCouple: [[spoiler:It is revealed in "Jakhowl-Day" that he and Rainbow have been dating since Rainbow's time at the Wonderbolt Academy, but have kept it a ScretRelationship due to not wanting anyone to think Rainbow is getting special treatment. They go public at the end of the chapter after Springer discovers them and encourages them to come clean.]]
* OvershadowedByAwesome: He is afraid he will end up being this for the team selected to travel to the Lost City of Faust, since out of all six of them ''he'' is the only one that isn't a Royal Knight, a Defender of the Peace, or a student of the princess. He feels he is just "fast".
* RageAgainstTheMentor: When Wind Rider, his former mentor when he was training at the academy, accuses his girlfriend Rainbow Dash of sending Spitfire away to take her spot and threatens her with expulsion from the Wonderbolts forever, Soarin calls him out on his bad attitude and attacking her without any evidence. When Wind Rider begins insulting Soarin's relationship with Rainbow and implies she only got as far as she has already due to [[GoldDigger sleeping with Soarin]], Soarin nearly punches him in the teeth. After Rarity discovers Wind Rider [[FrameUp framed Rainbow]] and tried to get her expelled to protect his record, Soarin [[BrokenPedestal loses all the respect he had for his former mentor]].
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure:
** He is the second-in-command of the Wonderbolts and often has his head on straight when it comes to making decisions. Not only is he friendly to just about everyone, he is willingly to [[WhatTheHellHero call out Spitfire]] when he feels she is making a mistake.
** He sides with Rainbow Dash when Wind Rider frames her for giving Spitfire a fake letter saying that her mother was sick. He also makes sure that the rest of the Wonderbolts do not automatically side with Wind Rider without any evidence that Rainbow Dash may be guilty.
* RescueRomance: He gets a crush on Rainbow Dash after she saves him and his teammates during Sonic Rainboom.
* SecretRelationship: [[spoiler:He and Rainbow Dash became a couple during her time at the Wonderbolt Academy, but kept it a secret from everyone, including Rainbow's friends and Soarin's teammates, since they didn't want anyone to think Rainbow was getting special privileges. They eventually go public with their relationship after Springer discovers it and encourages them to come clean with everyone, saying it isn't good to build their relationship through lies and secrets.]]
* StrongAndSkilled: He explains that after he joined the Wonderbolts he eventually reached his physical limits, which stopped him from getting any better. He eventually trained his mind through meditation and achieved the Theta State, allowing him to enhance his information and senses for a few seconds. This makes him one of the best flyers in the Wonderbolts, and he proves he is skilled enough to beat Rainbow Dash in their first race.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: When he has to work with Cold Steel in ''War of the Lost City''. Cold Steel hardly respects Soarin and constantly belittles him as a mere stunt pony, which creates a tense relationship between the two. Eventually, both are chosen to fight in ''The Trials of Teamwork'', in which both are in conflict with each other, until both work together to defeat Terror Card and Storm Blade.
* TookALevelInBadass: In "A Thief's Tale", [[spoiler:he unlocks the Theta Mode, and uses it to singlehandedly defeat both Wingill and Terror Card, eliminating the former and forcing the ladder to retreat]].
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Just like it was implied in canon, his favorite food is pie. It is always his first choice for a meal whenever he is hungry. He's not even upset when Rainbow Dash, his crush, tells him that she actually hates pies since that just means more pie for him instead.
* WasItAllALie: After he learns how his former idol and mentor, Wind Rider, [[BrokenPedestal tried to frame Rainbow Dash and have her expelled from the Wonderbolts]], he wonders if he was always like that and if everything he ever told him, the advice that inspired him and helped make him who he is, was all a lie.
* WhatTheHellHero:
** He argues with Spitfire when he sees that she is planning to make Lightning Dust the lead-pony instead of Rainbow Dash. Spitfire thinks that Soarin is only arguing in Rainbow's favor because he is in love with her, but Soarin convinces her that she is playing favorites with Lightning Dust because [[YouRemindMeOfX she reminded Spitfire of herself when she started out]], and makes her realize that being made a wing pony instead of a lead-pony was the best for her, just like it should be for Lightning.
** He is a bit upset with Rainbow Dash when she confesses that she faked her injuries to avoid picking between flying for either Ponyville or Cloudsdale. Though in this case he just seems [[DisappointedInYou more disappointed than anything]] and quickly goes along with her when she resolves to fix everything.
* WouldHitAGirl:
** Downplayed; when he and Rainbow are comforting each other over what happened with Wind Rider and assuring themselves they won't let themselves fall from grace like he did, Soarin promises Rainbow he will be sure to kick her flank for her until she gets back in line if he sees her start slipping like Wind Rider did, right after she made the promise to do the same thing to him. Though Rainbow claims that [[MoreDeadlyThanTheMale he wouldn't stand a chance against her in a fight]], which they both [[ActuallyPrettyFunny share a laugh over]].
** Played Straight later. He has no trouble fighting female enemies, like Terror Card and Tempera, who are both part of the Cult of Shadow.
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: He tells Rainbow Dash this when she says she is starting to feel stressed about being a lead-pony at the academy. He says he felt the exact same way when he was a lead-pony and he turned out just fine, and he already can tell she is ten times the leader he ever was. [[spoiler:This reassurance also leads to them sharing a kiss and becoming a couple.]]
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Spitfire]]
The captain of the Wonderbolts.
----
* DoubleEntendre: She says that the reason she asked for her and Rainbow to have private quarters in "Rarity Investigates" is because she doesn't want for Rainbow and Soarin "exhausting themselves" before the show.
* ForWantOfANail: It is essentially thanks to her that Flash and Soarin met and became best friends. During Flash's training, Grand Hoof requested a few Wonderbolts come to the castle to help with his aerial combat. However, Spitfire only sent one Wonderbolt due to not wanting to spare any hooves, and she chose to send Soarin since he was the newest member at the time. Thus, that was how Soarin and Flash met and eventually became best friends.
* GetOut: When she finally has enough of Lightning Dust's lack of teamwork and the tornado incident that almost killed Rainbow's friends, Spitfire kicks her out of the academy and yells at her to leave immediately.
-->'''Spitfire:''' I SAID DISMISSED! GET OFF OF MY RUNWAY AND LEAVE THIS ACADEMY NOW!
* RageBreakingPoint: She explodes into a fit of rage at Lightning Dust after she shows no remorse or regret for nearly killing ponies with a tornado, and tried to pin the blame on her.
* YouRemindMeOfX: Lightning Dust reminded her of herself, which was why she was going to make her lead-pony instead of Rainbow Dash. Soarin talked her out of it, and convinced her to make Rainbow Dash lead-pony instead.

[[folder:Thorax]]
A rogue changeling who Flash meets during the Canterlot Wedding. His later appearance sees Hiveena released from prison.
----
* AchievementsInIgnorance: Thorax went through a process all Changeling do that make them loyal to the queen of the hive. But when Thorax went through it, he unknowingly ended up pleading his loyalty to Hiveena instead of Chrysalis, because in his subconscious he knew that Hiveena was the better leader.
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: In canon, he did not appear until season 6. Here, he appears during the season 2 finale, and joins the heroes in season 5.
* BerserkButton: Insulting Hivena. He is shocked when he hears in "Time for A Changeling" that she is in prison for the crimes she committed while working for Doom Raizer, and he quickly becomes angered when everyone keeps saying she is pure evil.
* BigDamnHeroes: Thorax saves Spike when they first meet, like in canon. But instead of just [[BottomlessPitRescueService saving him from falling off a cliff]] he also saves him from a Timberwolf.
* TheBusCameBack: After "A Canterlot Wedding", he appears in a flashback in "Copycat Fight" and a full-blown return in "Time for a Changeling".
* FriendToAllChildren: While celebrating Heartswarming in the Crystal Empire, Thorax keeps all of the young crystal ponies entertained by dancing with them and changing into several cute animals for them to pet and ride on.
* MoralityPet: He acts as one for Hiveena. She was always nice to him when they were growing up in the hive, and so when he hears she is in prison he vouches for her to help get her out. When Hiveena sees him again, she agrees to the terms the ponies offer her, that she will be released if she helps them stop Chrysalis when she returns and in exchange they will help make her ruler of the Changeling.
* RogueDrone: Its explained that he didn’t feel as loyal to Chrysalis as the other Changelings, because he felt deep down that Hiveena was a better leader than Chrysalis, and thus the magical pledge all Changelings give to the queen was overridden and he ended up pledging to Hiveena instead of Chrysalis.
* ShipTease: He gets this with Hiveena in "Time for A Changeling", where his first sight of Hiveena is framed like LoveAtFirstSight.

[[folder:Fire Heart and Shining Soul]]
Two young ponies whom Flash and his friends encounter in the Lost City of Faust.
----
* AccessoryWearingCartoonAnimal: Fire Heart and Shining Soul wear a hoodie and turtle-neck jumper respectively.
* AnnouncerChatter: [[spoiler:Shining Soul gains this role for the ''War for the Lost City'' arc after "Soul's Destiny" when she's taken out of the game.]]
* CareBearStare: When Shining Soul unleashes her magic during her second battle in the city, her magic spreads throughout the city and damages the cultists but heals Trixie and Ruby.
* ContrivedCoincidence: Soul claims she became an alicorn "about two weeks ago", and Flash's team realizes that must have been the same day that Flash (and Shadow) had the vision telling him to come to the city and who to bring with him. Though Soarin is quick to dismiss it, since they don't know for sure it was the same day, others like Cold are sure there is no way it is just a pure coincidence and that there is some kind of connection.
* CurbStompBattle: Shining Soul accidentally knocks out Salix, Wingill, and Armalum after its revealed that she’s an alicorn. Because of this, the sphere that the two teams were supposed to search for automatically flies to her and Ruby.
* IShallTauntYou: Fire Heart taunts Salix in battle, making fun of his intelligence (or lack thereof), and taunting his temper and the reason he was [[TheExile kicked out of his old home]]. This is to get Salix mad enough to shoot fire at him, so he can dodge out of the way and get it to melt the prison Flash was trapped in.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: Neither can remember how they arrived in the Lost City of Faust, and just know they woke up there one day. [[spoiler:It is eventually revealed that the city suffered a pandemic that only children were immune to and they were put to sleep with a spell to one day live without fear of the plague. This implies that they were both two of the children from that time, and that their memory loss is a side effect of the spell that was used on them.]]
* MissingChild: They explain that they never found the city, only that they woke up one day, and found themselves in it. And they’ve been in it for three years.
* PlayingWithFire: Fire Heart is given the ability to use fire magic in "Courageous Burning Heart" thanks to his sister.
* PowerIncontinence: Shining Soul can't control her alicorn magic. She is afraid of using it since she accidentally hurt her brother Fire Heart with it once, but it is powerful enough to one-shot three cultists at once.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: [[spoiler:After Flash translates a journal that Trixie finds in the middle of the city, it is discovered that the city suffered from a mysterious plague that only the children were immune to for unknown reasons. The children were sealed away and put to sleep in the hopes they could live after the plague dies. This implies that Heart and Soul were two of the children from that time and recently awoke, and [[LaserGuidedAmnesia they can't remember their past due to a side effect of the spell]].]]
* TheReveal: The chapter "Ruby’s Rage" reveals that Shining Soul is an alicorn.
* SpannerInTheWorks:
** Shining Soul being an alicorn catches Team Shadow off guard, and she accidentally ends up allowing Team Flash to win.
** Fire Heart become this when Shining Soul gives him a power boost in ‘’Courageous Burning Heart'', allowing him to use fire magic.
* SmugSuper: Fire Heart begins to believe he is invincible with his new fire magic. Though he quickly gets a slice of HumblePie when Tempera outsmarts him in a fight and sends him into a river, and [[LogicalWeakness his powers become useless once he is wet]].
* TagAlongKid: Flash's team discovers them immediately after they arrive in the city and befriend them. They end up sticking with them once the Cult of Shadow attacks the city and are transported to Team Flash's castle. The game itself also considers them members of Flash's team, and thus they can be selected for battles just like the others can.
* TookALevelInBadass:
** Zig-zagged with Shining Soul. She started as just a pegasus like her brother, but about two weeks before the start of ''War of the Lost City'' she suddenly became an alicorn. She doesn't understand how it happened or why though, and she [[PowerIncontinence has trouble controlling her new magic]]. Trixie and Ruby try to help her control it better after finding out she is an alicorn.
** In the chapter "Courageous Burning Heart", Shining Soul is able to give Fire Heart a power boost, allowing him to use fire magic and together with Flash and Cold, they defeat Storm Blade and Salix. It also give him his cutie mark.
* YouthfulFreckles: Fire Heart has six freckles total and he's about the same age as Scootaloo.
