Both Ciena and Iden are Wide-Eyed Idealists strongly committed to the virtuous ideals upheld by their homeworld (loyalty and order, respectively), which sound good in theory, but when driven to the point of UndyingLoyalty to those ideals and it happens to be directed towards malevolent forces such as the Empire, it gets really Deconstruction ugly from there. However, the people of Jelucan are aware of this flaw, yet some including Ciena feel that they're still obligated to stick to this oath to the end despite the consequences that come with it to the point of wishing something could end her service to the Empire, and has somewhat soured by the time she finds herself about to be court-martialed by the New Republic. Meanwhile, from what we know so far, Iden and the people of Vardos are extremely upset with the fall of the Empire, and Iden will stay with the the Imperial Remnant to even when it becomes the First Order.
