** Infinite's character bears one perhaps even more noteworthy than the rare possibility of [[spoiler:a second Phantom Ruby nullifying his powers]]: namely, [[{{Sadist}} his hopeless addiction to sadism]]. Infinite isn't interested in pragmatism; [[TheBully his personal agenda is domination]], to relish in the fear, suffering, and subjugation of others as much as possible, constantly playing it off as it "not being worth the time" to finish off the enemy. Even after Eggman calls him out on letting Sonic live when he had him cornered, ''the one person who could absolutely ruin everything'', Infinite tries to rationalize it away. [[spoiler:Even beyond that, [[CreateYourOwnVillain Infinite failed to recognize what he'd inadvertently created when he subjected the Avatar to the same experience that led to]] ''[[CreateYourOwnVillain him]]'' [[CreateYourOwnVillain becoming so powerful]].]]

* AdaptationalVillainy: In the original story of ''Aladdin and the Magic Lamp'', the Genie of the lamp may not have been as lovable as [[Disney/{{Aladdin}} the Disney version]], but he was certainly not this malicious.

* AxCrazy: Unlike Eggman, who wants to leave the world intact and take it over, Nega gets a kick out of wanton destruction.

* HeWhoFightsMonsters: Tried to avenge the Chao when they were attacked by a power-hungry tribe of Echidnas only for [[TheDarkSideWillMakeYouForget his anger to quickly went out of control]]; to where he wanted the entire world to feel his anger and sadness through destruction, inadvertently endangering the lives of more Chao.

* AbusiveParents: It says a lot when he's willing to have his soldiers trample his own daughter in his pursuit of power.

* KilledOffForReal: [[ShotAtDawn Executed by a firing squad.]]

* GenericDoomsdayVillain: It's less of a character and more of an extension of Gerald Robotnik's vengeance.

* PsychoPrototype: To Shadow, the UltimateLifeForm.

* UltimateLifeform: Intended to be this, but its aggressive behavior and its reliance on the life-support system to survive caused it to be deemed a failure.

* KickTheDog: When he orders Shadow to get the Chaos Emeralds for him, he comes back with the exact thing that he wanted, and yet he still tells Shadow that he disobeyed him.

* PetTheDog: Sharing humans as food with the other Black Arms is the closest thing he does to nice in the entire game.

* SatanicArchetype: Is black and red, has horns, tries to tempt Shadow to evil with varying degrees of success and is the GreaterScopeVillain of several disasters, and oh, his SuperForm is a multiheaded dragon monster called Devil Doom who literally falls from the heavens upon defeat.
* SorcerousOverlord: The overlord of the aliens with some very strange powers to boot.

* TimedMission: [[spoiler:The final battle with him plays with this trope. As the fight between him and Shadow rages in the sky, Sonic and co. are slowly succumbing to the paralyzing nerve gas of the Black Comet. The longer the fight goes on, the more bleak it becomes for them. However, you can take as long as you like and it won't affect the ending at all. Your only time limit is your ring count.]]

* IdenticalGrandson: He is physically identical to Eggman, sans the white mustache. And in the ''Rivals'' series, he exploits this by [[IdentityImpersonator disguising as him]].

* TheBusCameBack: After being absent since ''Free Riders'', Wave makes a return in ''Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games''.

** A dose of FridgeBrilliance, [[spoiler:considering he was the ''mind and will'' of Solaris while Iblis, his counterpart, was the ''raw power'']]. It'd stand to reason he's not powerful enough to take anyone on in a head-on fight without some additional support. In other words, he [[KnowWhenToFoldEm knows his limitations.]]

* KingKoopaCopy: It is a deadly, monstrous and notorious beast that is filled with power, hate, and death. Plus serves as the final boss in Sonic Unleashed.

* {{Complete Immortality}}: Hinted. No matter what Sonic and Co. use on him in their battles against him (especially Super Sonic's), Chaos just reforms sooner or later. When Tikal meets up with Sonic at the flooded Station Square, she can only suggest to seal Chaos away again rather than destroy him. Sonic solves the problem by using the Chaos Emerald's posive energy to calm the beast's heart combined with Tikal showing her old friend that peaceful coexistence between multiple species was possible.

* OmnicidalManiac: [[spoiler:He wants to destroy all time and every timeline.]] Why? [[ItsWhatIDo Never explained.]]

** It's the first final boss fought in a Super form (outside of the ''VideoGame/SonicAdvanceTrilogy'' and ''VideoGame/SonicRushSeries'') to be able to ''knock rings out of a Super character.'' Let us repeat, '''it can actually ''hurt'' Super Sonic, Super Shadow, and Super Silver'''. To contrast this, Perfect Chaos, Finalhazard, Metal Overlord, and Devil Doom were only able to slow them down.

* {{Fantastic Racism}}: According to [[https://pastebin.com/fVAyJJAq supplemental material]], Chaos witnessing his fellow chaos getting trampled enraged him to the point of despising all other species. When Super Sonic has triumphed over Perfect Chaos and Tikal talks to her old friend, she tells of how humans protected and adored chao, showing that peaceful coexistence between different species is possible.

* DarthVaderClone: He's got a scary mask with a voice to match, black coloration, powers that prominently include the color red, once wielded a red sword in the prequel comic, and is Eggman's most prominent [[TheDragon second-in-command]] in ''Forces''. On the other hand, his blatant emotional instability, which ultimately ends up undermining his own victories, resembles that of Kylo Ren.

* MadScientist: Gerald, unlike his grandson, Dr. Ivo Robotnik, was not this and used his inventions to help humanity. Even the Eclipse Cannon was to be used to stop Black Doom, as revealed in ''VideoGame/ShadowTheHedgehog''. Then Maria died, and then he definitely became a MadScientist.
** His experiments and [[spoiler:deal with Black Doom]] allowed him to create both Shadow the Hedgehog and his prototype, the Biolizard.

** Also, Jet decides to bust Sonic out when he was captured in [[VideoGame/Mario&SonicAtTheOlympicGames Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games]].

* FlawedPrototype: Despite being an "ultimate lifeform," it's missing a few limbs and is dependent on life-support to survive. Not to mention it's much larger than shadow, implying the latter's design is more space-efficient.

* TimedMission: [[spoiler:The final battle with him plays with this trope. As the fight between him and Shadow rages in the sky, Sonic and co. are slowly choking to death from the toxic gas of the Black Comet. * NotSoDifferent: Presumably the reason he loves tormenting the Avatar: [[spoiler:he lost his squad and was called weak by a much more powerful opponent. It reminded Infinite of himself that day when he takes out the Avatar's squad and calls him "weak". Except now Infinite's the big dog who [[PitifulWorms belittles]] his opponents, much like Shadow.]]

* BreakTheHaughty: [[spoiler:Episode Shadow reveals that prior to the game, he was the captain of a mercenary team called Squad Jackal, and touted himself as the "Ultimate Mercenary". That all changed one fateful day when he and his squad were hired by Eggman to protect one of his laboratories in Mystic Jungle, where they encountered Shadow the Hedgehog. Shadow effortlessly destroyed his entire squad and handed Infinite a humiliating defeat, which would lead to Infinite's vow to become stronger and lead to him obtaining the power of the Phantom Ruby.]]

Zazz, Zomom, Zeena, and Master Zik are killed in-game rather than in cutscenes and they die like regular enemies. Zor and Zavok's deaths are a little more climatic, as they're baked in lava, but even then, there's no big send-off. They just... up and die. Though Eggman's line at the end of the game implies that they may not be gone for good. Zavok's return in ''VideoGame/SonicForces'' implies that they survived.
