* HeroWithBadPublicity: As of Sonic the Comic Online, this trope has become Sonic's downfall - the Kane Broadcasting Company uses their footage to convince the population of Mobius that Sonic is actually a villain who might be worse than Robotnik, and the worst part of it is, the footage they have to back up their claims, while very one-sided, is still genuine. -->Sonic: Change reality any way you like, Robotnik! Whatever you do I'll still fight you, and somehow I'll win! Because no matter how ridiculous the situation, I'll never give up, Robotnik! I'll never give up!

Sonic the Hedgehog is the former leader of the Freedom Fighters based out of the Emerald Hill Zone and was commonly regarded as the hero of Mobius. Born with the power to run at unnatural speeds Sonic was involved in an experiment which allowed him to break the sound barrier, resulting in a sonic boom that turned him blue. Working with Doctor Kintobor to rid the planet of all evil, Sonic witnessed the good Doctor's transformation into his long-time nemesis Doctor Ivo Robotnik. He is probably most famous on Mobius for opposing Robotnik on countless occasions, and later deposing of the tyrant during the final victory in the Metropolis Zone. For undercover work, he has often disguised himself under the alias of Bob Beaky to avoid revealing his true identity. Due to extreme exposure to high levels of Chaos energy Sonic has developed a transformation into an alter-ego known as Super Sonic. This malevolent demonic being is unleashed in times of great stress or if he is overexposed to additional Chaos energy. He is now a outcast feared and hated by all of Mobius (sans Tails).

------
* AmbiguousDisorder: According to Nigel Kitching, Sonic has an inability to properly express his feelings (see: Porker Lewis calling it quits). Back when he was all brown and prickly, he was apparently withdrawn enough to rely on a human for social comfort, and aside from that only seemed to care about running.
* Badass
* BigBrotherBully: To Tails.
* BigEater
* BitchInSheepsClothing: While he is a hero worshiped by all of Mobius as a fearless symbol of hope, he is actually a self-centered, immature Jerkass. This comes back to bite him in the ass in Webcomic/SonicTheComicOnline, where the sheep's clothing gets flung off and he ends up becoming a fugitive. Once the public knew about some of his more questionable decisions that he made to try and save Mobius, all the JerkAss tendencies that people were willing to ignore made it easy for to convince the public that he was a villain.
* BloodKnight: He gets bored and restless when there's no new challenge or threat, and will often deliberately go seeking one out.
* BlowYouAway: By running at full speed around an enemy, he can form a Sonic Cyclone that rips the enemy to shreds through its slipstream. A variation of this technique is a "cocoon of speed", which he uses to contain bombs and missiles and protect outside forces from the blast radius.
* BreakTheHaughty: For Sonic, the culmination of the Kane arc was initially expected to be a HeroicBSOD, but then followed up with DespairEventHorizon and then WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds combined with WhatTheHellHero.
* BrokenPedestal: Following the media smear campaign and everything else in SonicTheComicOnline, Sonic has became this to the remaining Freedom Fighters and Mobius. Let's just say that, when you know the Sonicverse as a whole, it's pretty jarring to see even Amy hating Sonic only Tails still belives in Sonic.
* CoolShades: He sports them in the second comic, for no apparent reason other than to look cool. He also constantly sports a pair when he disguises himself as Bob Beaky.
* CreateYourOwnVillain: In the Brotherhood of Metallix story arc loosely based on SonicCD had Sonic going back in time and deliberately causing the accident that turned kindly Dr. Ovi Kintobor into Dr. Ivo Robotnik. In the altered timeline where the accident never occurred, the Brotherhood of Metallix conquered Mobius and couldn't be stopped- in the 'real' timeline, Robotnik worked on the Metallixes, too, and thought to give them a mass-self-destruct function.
* DealWithTheDevil: He goes to the Drakon Empire to try and save Mobius from Dr. Zachary and Shadow.
* Determinator
* EverythingsBetterWithPenguins: His Bob Beaky disguise is a penguin.
* ForceField: By vibrating his molecules at super-speed, Sonic can create a forcefield.
* FullBodyDisguise: Sonic's Bob Beaky disguise (a green ushanka and duffel coat, yellow-checked scarf, grey boots and mittens, wraparound shades, and false beak) which completely conceals Sonic's body allowing him to travel incognito or infiltrate a public area.
**
* GoodIsNotNice
* GreenEyes: He gains them when Chaos hits him, but later he's Retconned into having green eyes ever since he turned blue.
** BrownEyes: Naturally.
* HeroicResolve: So long as something existed to menace Mobius, Sonic would never give up. Best exemplified by the speech he gives to Robotnik when the latter has absorbed the power of the Chaos emeralds to attain reality warping powers, while they're fighting through a series of increasingly bizarre scenarios.
** In one story, Sonic fights a robot that can predict his every move and counteract it. So Sonic gives up. Since the robot was programmed to believe that this circumstance would never happen, it malfunctions and blows up, which is exactly what Sonic intended.
* TheHero: Hero of Mobius
Sonic's base can spy on every zone in the world, Sonic himself is a bit of a dick, and his super form is a monster who's already caused havoc before. Not to mention the fact that he created Robotnik... This smear campaign worked so well in conjunction with the BigBad's evil scheme that Sonic is now a complete outcast, loathed and feared worldwide; even the Freedom Fighters (sans Tails) no longer trust him.
* HighAltitudeInterrogation: In Sonic the Comic Online, he uses this on Grouchio one of the Marxio Bros. by dangling him over a vat of Mega Mack.
* HomelessHero: In SonicTheComicOnline after becoming an outcast, Sonic is now homeless in issue 262 story Hog Hunt a park-keeper wakes Bob Beaky/Sonic sleeping on a bench in Grace Falls Memorial Park.
* HulkingOut: Whenever Sonic became stressed or extremely angry he transforms into Super Sonic.
* InsufferableGenius: Boasts about his skills but he is as skilled as he says.
* Jerkass: He is somewhat bossy, cocky, immature and arrogant, and characters regularly referred to his "strange sense of humour" - in Attack on the Death Egg, Sonic deliberately let Tails think he was dead for a laugh. Sonic's attitude frequently made cruel jokes at the expense of Tails, who he often refers to as "pixel brain".
** JerkWithAHeartOfGold: That said, he genuinely cares about his friends and has shown concern over them coming to serious harm, and takes the protection of Mobius very seriously.
* TheLeader: He is a mix of Determinator Type III and Type IV.
* LeeroyJenkins: Sonic's natural tendency is to just rush straight into battle without thinking, and rely on sheer force to plow through anything in his way. This often causes him to be overpowered by stronger enemies, or overwhelmed by sheer numbers. Best seen in this quote where Sonic leaps out of a plane to take on hundreds of robots:
-->Tails: But Sonic, shouldn't we have some kind of plan?
-->Sonic: I have a plan. [leaps out of plane] I plan to win!
* LockedIntoStrangeness: He turned blue due to an accident.

* WalkingTheEarth: After the Kane arc.
* WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer: Averted: Sonic's natural tendency is to just plow through his enemies with shear force and speed, but when faced with an enemy who this doesn't work against he tends to get more tactical and use his powers more creatively (grabbing hold of them and super-vibrating himself, creating cyclones with his speed, angling his attacks so that his momentum is transferred to the enemy, or timing the attack to strike at the point where the enemy is most vulnerable).

!!Porker Lewis
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/teammobiusporker_2546.jpg
A panicky former Freedom Fighter. Based on the "Picky" captive from the original games.

------
* AnthropomorphicShift: Arguably even more noticeable than Johnny, gaining a muscular body nearly twice Sonic's height, compared to his "small animal" design identical to the games early on (amusingly flashbacks were occasionally used featuring the character Retcon with his humanoid design). He changed twice, since at first he still had his hooves before they were changed to hands.
* AscendedExtra: Again like Johnny.
* BrownEyes: It switched between the issues, though most commonly he's shown with blue eyes.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler: His real name is Oscar the Pig, a native of the Special Zone who unwittingly became involved with a Mafia boss named Hammerhead who used Porker's research to develop weapons. When he destroyed his research and sabotaged the project, Hammerhead had him framed, forcing him to flee to Mobius, where he eventually joined up with Sonic]].
* FullNameBasis
* HeroicBSOD: After being stranded on the Miracle Planet for a month, Porker Lewis has this and quits the Freedom Fighters.
* NonActionGuy: Never a fighter, Porker loses his nerve entirely after being captured by the Metallixes, and he retires from the Freedom Fighters. Sonic never properly forgives him. Of course, this doesn't stop him from helping his old pals a few times afterwards.
* ShoutOut: His name is a reference to the sitcom ParkerLewisCantLose.
* TheSmartGuy
* Transplant: After his encounter with Metallix, Porker quits the Freedom Fighters and relocates to the Floating Island to study the ancient echidna civilisation and becomes an important supporting character for Knuckles as much as he is for Sonic.
* TrappedInAnotherWorld: He is trapped in Mobius because of the destruction of the Special Zone.
* UnwillingRoboticisation: Robotnik turns him into a badnik in issue 1, but thankfully Sonic frees him.

!!Johnny Lightfoot
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/corkerjohnny_6026.jpg
A late member Freedom Fighters. Based on the "Pocky" captive from the original games. Died fighting Chaos.

------
* AnthropomorphicShift: One issue he's a small vaguely anthro rabbit, and the next he's a fully clothed humanoid rabbit with hands.
* AscendedExtra: Similar to Sally Acorn, was upgraded to a full on protagonist in his respective canon.
* InnocentBlueEyes
* ItsPersonal: Johnny took the actions of Agent X/Shayde very personally, given that Shayde posed as Johnny and infiltration of the freedom fighters.
* KilledOffForReal
* TheBigGuy
* PosthumousCharacter: He died at the beginning of the VideoGame/SonicAdventure adaptation before SonicTheComicOnline began but his present is still felt, he has appeared in flashbacks and a story staring him traveling in to present to meet Sonic and Tails of the present.
* SacrificialLion
* SimpleStaff: his WeaponOfChoice.
* SuddenSequelDeathSyndrome: He dies at the beginning of the VideoGame/SonicAdventure adaptation.
* UnwillingRoboticisation: Brutus turns him into a badnik in the story Revolution but thankfully Shortfuse frees him.

!!Tekno the Canary

Amy's best friend, and an occasional member of the FiveManBand. A former member of Freedom Fighters.

------
* BlindingBangs
* BlueOni: To Shortfuse's red.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: While she was TheMole for Robotnik and wasn't a bad guy, she still created some of Robotnik's worst weapons and created Megatal.
* FeatherFingers: Flies with ease, despite having humanoid arms and wearing gloves.
* Flight: She easily flies despite having humanoid arms.
* GirlyGirl: To Amy's Tomboy.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Amy.
* Created Indestructium: Created Metagal.
* ReverseMole: Previously worked as an engineer for Robotnik, but used the role as a cover to steal Badnik parts and intelligence.
* TeenGenius
* TheSmartGuy
* TypicalCartoonAnimalColors: Averted.

A short-tempered squirrel who retained his free will after being turned into a powerful Badnik. A former member of Freedom Fighters.

------
* ArmCannon
* AsYouKnow: He repeats his back-story so frequently that it became something of a running gag to fans.
* ClingyCostume
* CursedWithAwesome: His Badnik armor gives him flight, NighInvulnerability and FrickinLaserBeams. He hates it.
* EvilCounterpart: Has one in Vermin the Cybernik.
* HairTriggerTemper: Has a short-temper, which is why he is called Shortfuse.
* IWorkAlone: Declines offers to properly join forces with the Freedom Fighters, and with Tekno. Of course, he's good for occasional team-ups with them every now and then.
* MadeOfIndestructium: His Megatal armour.
* ManInTheMachine: He spended most of SonicTheComic trapped in a suit of indestructible armour. In SonicTheComicOnline he sometimes wears a suit of indestructible armour which he can take off unlike his first Cybernik armour.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Mostly averted nowadays he rarely gets called by his nickname of "Shortfuse the Cybernik".
* PhlebotinumRebel
* RedOni: To Amy's and Tekno's blue.
* RevengeBeforeReason: He was more interested in getting revenge on Vermin than saving Johnny from falling into a chemical vat.
* UnwillingRoboticisation: Robotnik turns him into a powerful badnik but because of his Metagal armour he can't be freed as easily as other people made into badniks.

!!The Omni-viewer
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Omniviewe44_7228.jpg
The Omni-Viewer (or Omni, as he is commonly known) is a recurring character in Sonic the Comic. Although not entirely clear what Omni is, he often acts as a computer program. He has many other abilities, however, such as the power to transport people through time and space.

------
* TheMentor
* SealedGoodInACan: He was sealed in the Black Asteroid.
* SealedInsideAPersonShapedCan: He is the can, he and Sonic devised a plan to banish Super to another dimension. At the last second, with Super smashed into Omni's space, he changed his mind, not wishing to burden anybody else with Super Sonic. Omni tried to freeze time, making himself an eternal prison, but only managed to slow time to a crawl. The others moved Omni to the Black Asteroid, hoping to contain Super Sonic when he eventually broke free from Omni.
* SentientPhlebotinum
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Forced by Robotnik to get rid of Sonic and friends, however Robotnik didn't say how so he sends them only six months in future, but Robotnik in that six months had taken over Mobius.

!!Vector the Crocodile
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Vectoe23_7895.jpg
The leader of the Chaotix Crew and the only member of the team who seems to do more than just fight. He is quite intellectual and a capable scientist and detective. He is usually the one who handles Chaotix's PR issues and liasons with the New Tek City police.

------
* TheFace: He is usually the one who handles Chaotix's PR issues and liasons with the New Tek City police.

* TheLeader: Of the Chaotix Crew.
* MadScientist: He is a capable scientist.
* OmnidisciplinaryScientist
* TheSmartGuy: While he gets physical as often as his team-mates, Vector's main role is the crew's field-leader, strategist and technical expert.

!!Mighty the Armadillo
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/293px-STC86-Mighty_1998.jpg
The strongest member of the Chaotix Crew. He can be rather hot-tempered at times and is often arguing with teammate Espio, but he is a loyal friend and won't turn his back on a teammate (except maybe Charmy).

------
* TheBigGuy
* DisappearedDad: His dad Blockhead Bill was killed when the Special Zone was destroyed.
* HairTriggerTemper
* RedOni: To Espio's blue

* MissingMom: His mom the Queen Bee was killed when the Special Zone was destroyed.
* ModestRoyalty
* ObfuscatingStupidity: It's not clear if he's doing this, or if he's just that foolish. Either way, the key fact to note is that in every Chaotix story, Charmy is the one who defeats the villain.
* WarriorPrince: Just barely.

http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/theultimax_6173.jpg
The Ultimax are a team of heroes, formed in the wake of The Battle For Mobius. They are available as special back-up for the police, have a vast amount of technology at their disposal and a multi-million Ring sponsorship. Their biggest problem however, is their ineptness and lack of co-ordination when in a combat situation. Needless to say, Tails was slightly stunned as he watched them struggle against the Green Gremlin. Upon the Gremlin's defeat, thanks to Tails, the Ultimax were faced with a request from Tails to form a mutually beneficial alliance. While Dexter was unsure and rather dismissive at first, his opinion was swayed by a few nudges from his teammates.

!!Dexter 'Codex' Bagstille
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dexternadine_4228.jpg
The Ultimax's somewhat aloof leader and multimillionaire CEO of Macrosoft. Wants to do his part to help those in need, but wants to do it his own way. A parody of Bill Gates. He sees Tails as something of a mascot.

------
* Expy Of Bill Gates.
* Fiction500: He is a multimillionaire have made millions from his company Macrosoft.
* TheLeader: Of Ultimax, however Tails is the unoffical leader of The Ultimax

!!Theodore Abram Spartacus
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/theo_6803.jpg
Theodore Abram Spartacus (or Theo for short) is a turtle and one of the members of The Ultimax. His role in the trio is as the muscle, introducing himself as the one who is there to "smash stuff". Theo is usually very well-dressed, wearing a brown suit and scholarly spectacles. When called into combat, however, the turtle only wears shoes and sports a muscly physique. Theo is practically blind when he isn't wearing glasses or contact lenses, making unable to identify a villain directly in front of him. He also seems to have a thing for Amy Rose, as it was Tails' promise of contact with her that convinced him to join forces with the Freedom Fighters.

------
* TheBigGuy: The muscle of Ultimax.
* BlindWithoutThem: Theo is nearly blind when he isn't wearing glasses or contact lenses.

!!Holly 'Jumpinjax' Thumpfoot
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hollythumpfoot_9869.jpg
A hare, and the team's only female member. Hailing from the Hill Top Zone and notably hyperactive, Holly is something of a valley girl, and a fangirl, if her reaction to meeting Tails is anything to go by. She loves the idea of being a Freedom Fighter and is one of the first to try and convince Dexter to accept Tails' offer.

------
* TheChick: Of Ultimax.
* Fangirl: Of Tails.
* ValleyGirl
