Even his peers among the Gold Saints ''dread'' having to fight him for fear of him stopping his meditation to open his eyes. In the Hades arc, [[SugarWiki/MomentofAwesome he fights three resurrected Gold Saints at the same time]][[spoiler: and he loses only because [[ThanatosGambit he allows them to.]] By the end of the fight, the Gold Saints have [[CurbStompBattle each lost four of their five senses and gotten beat up pretty bad.]]]]

* CoolSword: For the GrandFinale of ''Soul of Gold'', he gets to put on the Odin Robe like Seiya did and wield the accompanying Balmung. Whereas Seiya had a relatively regular longsword and not much else, Aeolia's manifests as a golden double-bladed sword similar to Frodi's Sieg Schwert [[ShieldSurf that he uses to bounce off of mid-air in insanely rapid succession]] to deliver a light-speed pummeling to [[spoiler: Loki]]. It's also capable of Zelda-style {{Sword Beam}}s

* MultiMeleeMaster: He carries around something like six pairs of various weapons and can share them with the other Gold Saints. In toto he has: [[HeroesPreferSwords swords]], [[BladeOnAStick spears]], nunchaku, tonfas, three-sectioned staves and the [[LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe shields themselves]], which can also reveal a long chain to be used as flails.

* WalkingArmory: This is literally the job of the Libra Saint: while Athena's Saints usually fight unarmed, the Libra Cloth includes six pairs of weapons (swords, tonfas, nunchakus, throwing shields, tridents, and three-section staffs) to be loaned to other Saints when extreme need arises. Most of these weapons compress or retract for portability, then extend to full size when wielded. Ironically, Dohko tends to use his own unarmed techniques and Cosmo instead of relying on the Libra Cloth's weapons.

* AdaptationalVillainy: Referred to as a CardCarryingVillain in the Italian dub.

* BlackSheep: He is the only Saint in canon that has been stripped of his armor and status after proving himself unworthy. In the semi-canonical ''The Lost Canvas'', Garuda Aiacos also was stripped of his Surplice, but this work was not written by Masami Kurumada.

* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Not through his own volition though. Under the Pope's mind control, Aeolia is mentioned to being a completely different person who doesn't retain any of his virtues or kindness as a Saint and goes out of his way to make sure Seiya suffers at his hands very slowly during their fight.

Not only is Camus aware that the Excalibur could have chopped him in half, the gesture is so noble that Camus quits his FaceHeelTurn instantly to honor the fallen Capricorn.]]

* AntiHero: Type IV. While his heart is in the right place (The Hades Sanctuary arc implying he's something akin to TheHeart of the Gold Saints collectively), he can also be VERY unscrupulous regarding his methods and like the Buddha he's based on, he's not really the type to explain himself either.

* BreakTheHaughty: One of the few times we see him lose his calm demeanor is when Ikki awakens his seventh sense, after Shaka had already cut off his other six. He doesn't understand the point of Ikki becoming stronger than him only to take the both of them out via a [[TakingYouWithMe kamikaze attack]] and is fearful they'll never be able to return to their dimension if he goes through with it. [[spoiler: This clearly doesn't stick since he and Ikki are brought back with some help from Mu a few hours later.]]

** '''Rikudō Rinne''' (Six Paths of Transmigration or Six Saṃsāra): Which Shaka uses to basically weaponize {{Reincarnation}}, sending his opponent to one of the six Realms defined by Buddhism as: [[TheFamine Gakikai (the realm of the Hungry Ghosts)]], [[ExistentialHorror Jinkai (the Human Realm, that's us)]], [[PhysicalHell Jigokukai (the realm of hell)]], [[SocialDarwinism Chikushōkai (the eat-or-be-eaten Animal Realm)]], [[MightMakesRight Shurakai (the realm of the warring Asura)]] and finally [[HeaveN Tenkai (the Deva realm]])

* ImprobableAge: Died at ''14'' while looking like a well-built early 20's man with a BaritoneOfStrength. This becomes especially funny in ''Soul of Gold'', where his returning voice actor is pushing his 70's and sounds like it.

* AttackReflector: As befitting the man closest to the gods he also has this ability, that actually makes its debut when he uses it on the ''Nebula Chain''.
