** Averted, in ''[=PGSM=]'' in which it's learned that while Princess Serenity was once a kind and gentle soul, much like Usagi is in the present, Endymion's death shattered her and in her grief [[spoiler:she destroyed the Silver Millennium not Queen Metalia.]] After being reawakened in the modern time, her grief has festered and turned into a cold violent rage, that whenever she would forcibly take over Usagi, becoming Princess Sailor Moon, she would often leave flaming carnage behind her, not caring who would get hurt in her pursuit of Endymion. [[spoiler:In the end, when Usagi must kill a Metalia possessed Mamoru/Endymion to save the world, the action causes Serenity to awaken again, and horrified she destroys the Earth in her anger. It takes Usagi and Mamoru sacrifice of true love, to restore the Earth, but the love of their friends restores their lives, and their kindness touches Serenity's heart, allowing her to finally rest and move on from the past.]]

** The [[Anime/SailorMoon 1990s]] AnimatedAdaptation seems to take a particular delight in rubbing Usagi's nose in how much of a disappointment she is compared to what even the Dark Kingdom expects of Sailor Moon and Princess Serenity's reincarnation. Kunzite's ploy to use a "Princess Seminar" to find Sailor Moon hinges on his observation that, outside of her tiara-throwing skills, Sailor Moon is a clumsy, graceless bungler (with Usagi's friends Rei and Minako both admitting it was a clever plan). Shortly afterwards, a monster mistakes ''Rei'' for Sailor Moon because she refuses to believe Sailor Moon could be as bad at skiing as Usagi is. And then after ''that'', Usagi expects to be an InstantExpert at ice-skating after hearing her past incarnation was a master of the sport, only to discover that she's absolutely ''terrible'' at it. And, for icing on the cake, her friend Makoto, who is ''also'' trying ice-skating for the first time, turns out to be a prodigy (a trait shared with ''her'' past incarnation) who simultaneously impresses an Olympic gold medal-winning skater and is mistaken for Sailor Moon, because once again the monster couldn't believe Sailor Moon would be as graceless as Usagi.

* FauxActionGirl: Perhaps due to her status as one of anime's most iconic characters, it is sometimes overlooked that Usagi's combat performance in season 1 of the original series is flat out abysmal. She needs to be rescued by Tuxedo Mask or her fellow sailor guardians in nearly every fight she gets into, sometimes on multiple occasions in the same episode. And it's not just due to her inexperience either, as this continues well over 20 episodes into the show.

** When you're sentenced to StandingInTheHall as much as you're implied to have been, your grades ''will'' suffer. Didn't Haruna Sakurada point that out to you that time you got a 30 on your test?

** Usagi's panicking in battle in the first episode is pretty much what would happen if you throw a teenage girl into life or death fights.
** Usagi, an 8th grade girl, is told that she is destined to be Sailor Moon. Given how she is only a middle schooler, [[IJustWantToBeNormal of course she isn't going to be either happy or cooperative with taking a major life role that involves major responsibility that easily]].

Hurting Hero is a disambiguation

** To Minako in the manga. Both are blonde, bubbly love addicts that aren't academically inclined. However, while Usagi's ditziness is, to some extent, genuine, Minako is actually a genius who quickly masters whatever she tries her hand at, and has a wide range of skills and accomplishments to her name that no other teenager would be able to claim. She simply cannot be bothered with schoolwork. While Usagi initially spends her first few days as a Guardian running from her enemies, Minako faces the enemies head-on. While Usagi refuses to let go of her love and her friends, Minako isn't as fortunate and is forced to kill her love interest and let her perfectly good social life waste away as she keeps working as a Sailor Guardian. For this reason, while Usagi's cheer and optimism are genuine, Minako is one hell of a HurtingHero who [[StepfordSmiler puts on a brave face]] out of refusal to show weakness. While Usagi cries and whines when she has problems, Minako just gets pissed, and resolves to come out on top. Usagi was born having all the power she needed as Sailor Moon, while Minako has to grind to become the unbelievably skilled warrior that she is.
