!The Jersey Club

[[folder:In General]]
* IntimateMarks: Their Memoria marks are all located in a private area of their bodies.
** Madoka's is located on the right side of her low back, a little over her butt.
** Lan's is located next to her left breast.
** Muginami's is located near her groin.
* RomanticTwoGirlFriendship: The way the three interact gives off a huge three-way relationship vibe. In one episode of the second season, they share kisses in the lips.

[[folder:Madoka Kyouno]]
[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rinne_no_lagrange_madoka_4844.jpg]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KaoriIshihara (Japanese) and Creator/KiraBuckland (English)

TheHeroine of the series, an optimistic, kind-hearted and very energetic girl attending a OneGenderSchool. She's devoted to her hometown and to the duties of the Jersey Club, of which she was its sole member. When given the choice to pilot the HumongousMecha to protect Kamogawa, in a change of pace she readily accepts, maintaining her usual cheerful demeanor the entire time. She rides the Vox Aura, a wind-elemental machine she calls "Midori", which was later armed with a sword and an energy shield.
----
* AccidentalMisnaming: As a RunningGag, she can't seem to remember Villagiulio's name. In Season 2, she opts for "Giuvi-nii" instead.
* TheAce: She seems to be good at everything, except {{Barehanded Blade Block}}s.
** Her self-chosen alias in Episode 16 was ''[[MeaningfulName her catchphrase]]'' (see below).
* AccidentalPublicConfession: In Episode 18, while trapped in an escape capsule in [[spoiler:Yurikano's body]], Madoka hits the emergency transmitter, causing her to broadcast her musings to everyone in the ongoing space battle. Said musings include [[spoiler:the reasons behind Yurikano's sacrifice]]. She also lets Lan and Muginami know that [[spoiler:she's actually Madoka, through a variation of "NoOneElseIsThatDumb"]].
* BadassAdorable: Energetic, lively, friendly, and more than ready to fight to defend her friends and hometown.
* BatterUp: Madoka bats away a flying newspaper dispenser using a ripped-from-the-ground streetlight.
* BookDumb: She sucks at math.
* CharacterTic: She makes an air circle and says “perfect” while doing so, in a drawn out manner.
%%* ChronicHeroSyndrome
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: She doesn't find anything wrong with going to school in her swimsuit.
* CombatPragmatist: Madoka uses a ripped electrical line to try and choke Kirius' Ovus Libertas. Of course, since it's a robot, it doesn't do any good- besides driving Kirius into a panic attack, thinking the ineffective choking might be a "finishing move" he doesn't know about.
* CrazyPrepared: Madoka just happened to wear a swimsuit under her school uniform the day she sees someone drowning.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindows: Mundane variant, matching brown hair and eyes.
* DestructiveSavior: Madoka consciously does her best to avoid wrecking things, but sometimes her powers result in destruction anyway.
* {{Determinator}}: Not just with fighting robots, but in general.
* EmbarrassingTattoo: Her Vox mark is located right on her buttcheek. Yoko [[{{Fanservice}} has no qualms]] [[PantyShot scrutinizing the area at length]].
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: The very first line of the series is also this for Madoka, set to a heartwarmingly beautiful ocean sunrise:
-->"Today I pray for the happiness of everybody."
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: Lan and Muginami certainly seem to have the hots for her.
* ExpressiveHair: In Episode 19, her ponytail reacts to [[BookDumb her attempts to study]].
* ExtracurricularEnthusiast: Her defining quirk. Her club is the "Jersey Club", the primary activity of which is being involved in every other extracurricular, where needed.
* FallingIntoTheCockpit: Originally pilots her Vox without having any idea how to really use it.
* FamedInStory: By Season 2, everyone knows of her exploits in defense of Kamogawa. Some ([[EvenTheGirlsWantHer female]]) patrons in Hiroshi's beachside restaurant even blush when they see her. This also applies to Kirius and friends to some degree. At the end of the series [[spoiler:she even receives a call from the Secretary-General of the United Nations]].
* FashionableAsymmetry: When wearing her jersey (i.e. pretty much all the time), Madoka has the right leg and left sleeve rolled up.
* FirstNameUltimatum: Madoka doesn't like it that her uncle is drinking in daylight, especially with a complete stranger.
-->"HIROSHI!"
* FreakyFridayFlip: [[spoiler:With Yurikano in Season 2, thanks to a Polyhedron project intended to give them full control of the Vox Aura.]]
* GenkiGirl
* TheGlomp: A justified example- at the beginning of Episode 13 when she sees Lan for the first time in almost a year, Madoko's enthusiastic greeting knocks her off her feet and causes ColorFailure. In Episode 14, she manages to catch Lan and Muginami simultaneously with a double-glomp that knocks both of them to the floor.
* HardHead: While piloting, Madoka hits her forehead against Aura's controls. It does little more than give her a small bruise.
* TheHeroine: She's the central character of the main trio and the most typically heroic of the three.
* HeroesPreferSwords: In Episode 6, when the Vox units receive actual weaponry, Madoka ends up with a sword.
* HeroicBSOD: In Episode 11 when [[spoiler:Yoko is crushed by a fallen mecha. She nearly ends the world as a result]].
* ICallItVera: Madoka calls Vox Aura "Midorin" due to its green color scheme. The English equivalent would be calling it "Greenie".
* ImprovisedWeapon: A practitioner of the technique.
* JumpedAtTheCall: As long as it helps her friend, Madoka doesn't mind piloting a robot for the first time in her life to defeat alien forces.
** She briefly gets upset when she has to pilot again at the start of Season 2, but she quickly gets over it.
* TheKirk: She stands in the middle of the main trio's emotional scale, being not even nearly as serious as Lan and less flippant than Muginami.
* NiceGirl: Unconditionally kind to everyone and anyone. Then again, one has to wonder if she really has any other friends aside from Lan and Muginami (which is confirmed in Episode 10).
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Activating the Rinne the first time was obviously a very bad thing, as it destroyed a lot of ships, buildings, and such. [[spoiler:And when she does it again, the world basically ends up being swallowed and almost destroyed.]]
* NoSocialSkills: She seems to have absolutely no tact at all. If she wants to ask someone a question, she barges straight into wherever they are and immediately starts grilling them. Even if that someone is the head of a galactic federation in the middle of a peace talk. She also appears to have no clue that someone might be trying to deceive her or pick up on Dizelmine's rather blatant brush off of a question she asks him.
* OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent: Before she stumbled upon Lan and the Vox Aura, she was a normal teenager.
* MissingMom: It's established her mother drowned ten years ago when she tried to rescue someone. Episode 24 reveals that, in her desperation to see her mother, Madoka [[spoiler:tried to head out to sea, and would have drowned herself were it not for Vox Aura's appearance, which (to her) is a sign from her mother telling her to live on]].
* {{Nephewism}}: Lives with her uncle.
* PaperThinDisguise: The disguise she used in Episode 16 consisted of a pair of glasses and GirlishPigtails. Nobody was fooled.
* PantyShot: In the first episode, when her cousin, Yoko, forcfully drops Madoka's pants to check for a Vox tattoo on her butt.
* PercussiveMaintenance: In Season 2, she reactivates Aura by hitting it. It's implied that it only activated that way because she ''wanted'' to, rather than because it was necessary.
* PluckyGirl
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Gives one to both [[spoiler:Dizelmine and Villaguilo]] in Season 2 after punching them in the gut.
* {{Schoolgirl Lesbian|s}}
* TenderTears: At the end of Season 1, the otherwise energetic, cheerful Madoka struggles to complete her CharacterTic through tears before breaking down crying [[spoiler:after she sees Lan off, leaving her all alone (with Muginami having already left earlier)]].
* TenMinuteRetirement: Astelia bans her from piloting in Episode 8 due to the possibility of [[spoiler:causing TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt]]. At the end of Season 1, [[spoiler:Vox Aura stops working completely]]. Neither lasts.
* VerbalTic: Madoka always says "maru", which means "Tick", "Circle" or "Perfect" in English (so named because "O" is right and "X" is wrong in Japanese game shows), and may also be a pun on her name, which can also mean circle.
* WhoWearsShortShorts: Madoka [[http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/lagrange-the-flower-of-rinne/images/3/33/Madoka_sleepwear.png/revision/latest?cb=20161212192100 does,]] albeit [[http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/lagrange-the-flower-of-rinne/images/0/01/Madoka_kyouno_sleepwear.png/revision/latest?cb=20170126204546 for sleepwear.]]
* WrestlerInAllOfUs: Her solution to a robot menace? Defeat it using a German Suplex. Enemy is nearly four times your size? Give it a triple suplex with your friends. Your buddies are fighting? Give them both lariats.

[[folder:Laffinty Fin E Ld Si/"Lan"]]
[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rinne_no_lagrange_lan_1685.jpg]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/AsamiSeto (Japanese) and Creator/MichelleRuff, credited as "Sophie Roberts" (English)

Madoka's first alien friend, a strange and quiet girl who happens to be a princess from a faraway planet. Lan essentially serves as the antithetical counterbalance to Madoka's blatant cheerfulness. She pilots Vox Rympha, or "Orca" as she calls it, a water-elemental machine later armed with a sword-machine gun hybrid which can fire 120mm shots and energy shield.
----

* AnimalMotifs: Lan names her Vox Orca, keeps two Orca whales stuffed animals in her room and her pajama has an Orca whale in it.
* CatchPhrase: "Wan", which sounds similar to her nickname, and is the Japanese onomatopoeia for "Woof", and becomes Woof in the dub. Turns out that Astelia [[{{Troll}} lied to her and told her it was an Earth greeting]].
* CharacterTic: A FauxPaw to go with her catch phrase, "wan/woof".
* ClingyJealousGirl: RomanticTwoGirlFriendship example. Lan gets notably upset when she sees her new friend Madoka is getting along with Muginami and goes as far as transferring to their school so Muginami doesn't spend more time with Madoka than she does.
* TheComicallySerious: Much of her humor comes from her attempts at being TheStoic failing miserably as she's repeatedly put in situations that get her nervous and embarrassed.
* CuteClumsyGirl: When she tries her hand at being a waitress, she cannot stop dropping the dishes, falling over, and embarrassing herself. Hilariously, this makes her a popular waitress at Hiroshi's shop.
* DefrostingIceQueen: She eventually warms up to Madoka as they become friends.
* EmotionlessGirl: {{Subverted|Trope}}. She's not emotionless, just a bit too serious and awkward when expressing how she feels.
* FishOutOfWater: Lan is a HumanAlien who has never been on Earth before and has trouble getting used to Earthling customs. For example, she greets people by barking like a dog (because she was told Earthlings do that) and holds a baseball bat the wrong way.
* FlowersOfFemininity: She's a pretty HumanAlien princess wearing a white flower on the left side of her hair.
* ICallItVera: She names her Vox "Orca".
* LeotardOfPower: She's required to wear a leotard during missions.
%%* LuminescentBlush
* MindRape: [[spoiler:Undergoes this at the start of Season 2 (Moid assures her it’s ForScience), and it would have caused ''permanent damage'', if not for [[VillainousRescue Villagiulio's attack on the station she was on]]. The worst part is that it's implied she was ''willing''... despite the obvious pain it was causing her.]]
* MorphWeapon: Vox Rympha receives a cross between a sword and a machine gun later in the series.
* NewTransferStudent: She transfers into Madoka's class at the end of Episode 4 because she wanted to join the Jersey Club.
* NotSoStoic: Lan tries to keep a straight face, but her emotions shine through way too easily. Her stoic facade being cracked off-duty is somewhat of a RunningGag.
* OverlyLongName: Her full name is Fin E Ld Si Laffinty. Unsurprisingly, she's a princess. For this reason, most people just call her Lan.
* PurpleIsPowerful: Her purple eyes hint at her status as princess of Le Garite and the only one of the main trio who is royalty.
* TheQuietOne: She doesn't talk much and only says what is needed.
* ReiAyanamiExpy: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. Lan is a blue-haired, pale-skinned, purple-eyed alien princess who pilots a HumongousMecha. When Madoka first meets her, Lan is stoic, mysterious and acts a bit weird. Once Madoka befriends her, however, Lan quickly reveals she's NotSoStoic and much of her initial odd behavior comes from being misinformed about Earth culture. She opens up to Madoka soon enough and becomes more expressive in general.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: Despite being a princess, she is remarkably eager to fight on the battlefield with her HumongousMecha.
* ShelteredAristocrat: Due to her luxurious upbringing as princess of the planet Le Garite, Lan has few understanding of the commoners' lifestyle.
* ShesGotLegs: Her leotard uniform shows off her slender legs.
* SomeCallMeTim: She prefers to be called simply "Lan" instead of her OverlyLongName.
* TheSpock: She's the most serious-minded and sensible of the main trio.
* TheStoic: She shows very little emotion while on missions.
* StrangeSalute: Lan salutes people by holding up her fist as it was a paw while saying "Woof!" like a dog. Turns out that Astelia lied to her and told her it was a greeting on Earth. Lan becomes terribly embarrassed when she learns this.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Lan is a sweet girl, but she's also reserved and has trouble expressing herself.
* SuperDrowningSkills: Lan can't swim, which puts her in danger of drowning when Muginami throws her into the sea.
* SuperheroPackingHeat: Became this in Episode 6 upon receiving a {{BFG}} for her Vox.
* TookALevelInCheerfulness: Starts off as seemingly [[EmotionlessGirl emotionless]], but soon becomes more emotive and outgoing.
* TrueBlueFemininity: She's a princess, the most traditionally feminine of the main trio, and almost always wears blue.
* TsurimeEyes: Unlike Madoka and Muginami, Lan's eyes are slanted upwards and she's the most serious of the main trio.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: She's afraid of ghosts. She's left in tears and crying for her brother after a visit to a haunted house of the SchoolFestival.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: She has natural pale blue hair.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Muginami]]
[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rinne_no_lagrange_muginami_7849.jpg]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/AiKayano (Japanese) and Creator/KarenStrassman (English)

A mysterious, yet ultimately somewhat ditzy and idealistic girl and younger sister of Villagiulio. She is the pilot of Vox Ignis, or "Fuupo" as she calls it, a fire-elemental mecha armed with a pair of energy guns which she can fuse into a sword.
----
* BadassCape: A later upgrade to her Vox Ignis in Season 2.
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: Part of the reason why she loves and respects Villagiulio is that he's the closest thing to family she ever had.
* BigBrotherWorship: She adores her adoptive older brother Villagiulio more than anything. Even after he pushes her away by calling her a parasite, Muginami can't bring herself to even be mad at him and ends up continuing to support him.
* CapedMecha: Ignis becomes this in Season 2, using an energy cape as a shield.
* CatchPhrase: "Kashikomari!" ("Roger that!")
* CharacterTic: A rather normal one compared to her two comrades- her salute.
* TheDitz: When the teacher introduces her to Madoka's class, she keeps repeating "I'm Muginami!"
* DoubleWeapon: Receives a double bladed sword as her Vox weapon, formed out of a pair of energy guns.
* {{Expy}}: A blatant one in appearance, name-similarity and personality to Tsumugi "Mugi" Kotobuki from ''Manga/KOn'', with the already impressive rack exaggerated to GagBoobs level.
* {{Gainaxing}}: The main source of it on the show.
* ICallItVera: She nicknames Vox Ignis "Fuupo", which in certain Chinese dialects means "amber".
* {{Irony}}: She promised to get revenge for Lan during the baseball game. Come Episode 6:
-->"You haven't considered my feelings one bit! No one asked you to get my revenge!"
** Of course, Muginami was trying to get Lan to warm up to her by being warm and playful. [[spoiler:Madoka was trying to kill Muginami's most important person (albeit cause he is the sort-of BigBad).]]
* LivingWithTheVillain: Muginami, as a spy for Villaguilio, wants to have this relationship with Madoka and Lan. Subverted when she joins them for good.
* TheLoad: Villagiulio outright calls her this to his organization. Subverted- it's likely that Villagiulio only called her this because [[ShooTheDog he doesn't want her to suffer the way he did]].
* TheMcCoy: She's the most emotionally driven and playful of the main trio.
* MsFanservice: Muginami has the biggest bust of the main trio. She also gets more nude scenes than Madoka and Lan.
* NewTransferStudent: She transfers into Madoka's class at the start of Episode 4.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: She plays at being an airhead to throw suspicions off herself.
* OnlyOneName: She's the only main character without a surname because she's an orphan.
* PrettyInMink: She wears a fluffy fur coat over a corset.
* PublicExposure: One episode has her posing for the art class while wearing nothing but a blanket. Then a CuteClumsyGirl pulls the blanket off and Muginami ends up naked in front of the entire class.
* RapunzelHair: Her hair reaches down to about her hips.
* ReplacementGoldfish: Suspected, but averted. Muginami worries that she may be nothing but a replacement of Yurikano, Villagiulio's blood-related sister, in his eyes. He ultimately tells her that she is unique, and he'll be her big brother as long as he lives.
* StepfordSmiler: Despite her cheerfulness, she hides quite a sad side to her. Even when she's on the receiving end of Villagiulio's TheReasonYouSuckSpeech, she's still smiling.
* StreetUrchin: She grew up in Prison Planet as an orphan struggling to survive in a place filled with garbage and needing to steal food to eat.
%%* TaremeEyes
* VaporWear: If Episode 7 is any indicator, she apparently doesn't wear a bra.
* WaifFu: Blink and you'll miss it, but she's shown to be quite capable with close quarters combat, [[spoiler:easily wiping the floor with an entire group of Le Garite soldiers when attempting to rescue Madoka from the Vox Core]].

!Residents of Kamogawa

[[folder:Yoko Nakaizumi]]
[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rinne_no_lagrange_yoko_6092.jpg]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/MamikoNoto (Japanese) and Creator/WendeeLee (English)

Madoka's older cousin and a tough woman who refuses to let crap get to her, or anyone for that matter. Appears to know a bit more about the Vox units than she should, given her profession. She was also the original founder of the Jersey Club before Madoka took over.
----
* AloofBigSister: Acts like one to Madoka, although they're cousins.
* CoolBigSis: To Madoka, whenever she's free to express her feelings.
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: She does this verbally to Madoka.
* GoodOldFisticuffs: How she stops [[spoiler:Moid's gloating]] and apprehends him. Mostly offscreen, unfortunately.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: While she is fairly irritable and a bit physically assertive, she's well-meaning and doesn't let petty things get in the way if Madoka truly wants to pilot the Vox.
* ObliviousToLove: Apparently has no idea that her assistant is interested in her.
* OutOfFocus: Throughout Season 2, she loses a lot of prominence and barely has lines each episode.
* ParentalSubstitute: Served as this to Madoka after her mother died, and taught her an astonishing amount of her "jersey spirit". It's quite the surprising change to see her with the front ponytail and jersey when contrasted with her brash and mellow personality.
* ScarsAreForever: [[spoiler:The collapsed mecha that fell on her leaves a big one.]]
* WalkingTheEarth: [[spoiler:Joins Astelia at the end of the series in researching an anomaly in [[TheBermudaTriangle Bermuda]] related to the Rin-ne.]]

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KenjiHamada (Japanese) and Creator/KirkThornton, credited as "Bubba Chow" (English)

Madoka's uncle and Yoko's father.
----
* BadassLongcoat: Parodied- he gets into a fight with Villagiulio over one but loses. They settle the argument by getting sauced on the beach.
%% * CoolOldGuy
* FunWithAcronyms: His shop, ''Be With Hiroshi" ([[StealthPun BWH, or Bust-Waist-Hip measurements]]).
* ManlyTears: During Kirius and Array farewell party, he is unexpectedly the first to break down in tears.
* NiceGuy: He takes Madoka in after [[spoiler:her mother dies]], offers the other members of the Jersey Club jobs and a room about half way through the first season, opens a new cafe down on the beach and [[spoiler: hires the first season villains to run it because they needed a chance]], makes the Jersey Club's lunches when they leave for an extended trips, and is tore up when Kirius and Array decide to leave for home.

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/HisakoKanemoto (Japanese) and Creator/StephanieSheh (credited as Saki Shin) (English)

The granddaughter of Novumundos' chairman.
----
* TheAtoner: [[spoiler:She's the one inadvertently responsible for the disaster 20,000 years ago, and is now finding ways to at least repair some of the damage she has unwittingly caused under Moid's warping influence.]]
* BigGood: While her grandfather is absent, she's acting the part of Novumundos' representative and this effectively makes her the most important authority figure in Earth's organization dealing with the conflict between Le Garite and De Metrio. [[spoiler:Turns out she ''is'' the real chairman and ''way'' older than she appears.]]
* ClassyCravat: Her dress includes a cravat that makes her look all the more refined.
* CovertPervert: She really seems to be a [[{{Ojou}} well-composed and elegant young lady]]... then starts groping Madoka with relative consistency. She even embarrasses Madoka with naughty comments at one point [[ForScience as part of an experiment]].
* ElegantGothicLolita: She wears a yellow Lolita fashion dress with lots of frills. She's even called a Lolita in the title of the episode she first appears in.
* Fiction500: Novomundos is powerful enough that she can force the President of the United States into compliance by threatening to have him replaced.
* FlashbackEcho: Gets this when viewing an ancient stone tablet about the Vox, [[spoiler:from her past self Queen Maycun]].
* FlowersOfFemininity: She wears a yellow rose on the left side of her hair, complementing her young appearance, cuteness and elegance.
* FountainOfYouth: [[spoiler:She used to be the grown queen Maycun, but was turned into the form of a child after she traveled to the Rin-ne dimension.]]
* TheGadfly: She was the one who told Lan about her "Wan" gesture being a greeting on Earth to tease her. Although, Astelia is genuinely surprised that Lan was gullible enough to believe it.
* GradeSchoolCEO: Although she's a little girl, she holds the highest authority in Pharos as the granddaughter of the chairman of the organization running the facility. [[spoiler:It's later revealed she's the real chairman, but she's over 20,000 years old despite looking like a child thus subverting this.]]
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: She's a pretty young lady with very long blonde hair. Though she initially comes across as aloof, she has Earth's best interests in mind.
* HimeCut: She has blunt bangs, bra strap length sidelocks, and knee length straight hair. The perfect hairstyle for an {{Ojou}} who wears an ElegantGothicLolita dress [[spoiler:and was a queen in the past]].
* {{Immortality}}: [[spoiler:The exact circumstances of it are never explained, but she lived 20,000 ago, got turned into a child by her travel to the Rin-ne dimension, and her appearance hasn't changed at all to the present day.]]

!De Metrio and Kiss
[[folder:Lord Villagiulio De Metrio Lu]]
[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rinne_no_lagrange_villagiulio_273.png]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/YuuichiNakamura (Japanese) and Creator/KeithSilverstein (English)

The main antagonist of the series, older brother of Muginami (adopted) and Yurikano (true-blooded), and the former crown prince of De Metrio turned leader of outlaw organization "Kiss". For some reason or another is quite into capturing the Vox units. He pilots the Ovus Avarium, a heavy-duty mecha armed with a pair of anchors stored in each arm, a pair of large swords, and a large mortar gun.
----
* AffablyEvil: The guy doesn't seem like ''that'' bad of a person, even if he's somewhat gruff and unkempt. Even that one KickTheDog moment towards Muginami with a TheReasonYouSuckSpeech appears to be [[ShooTheDog his way of dissuading her from following his footsteps]].
* AntiVillain: He wants to capture the Vox units and destroy those who stand in his way, but [[spoiler:only to save his planet]].
%% * BadassBeard
* BadassLongcoat: Parodied -- he gets into a fight with Hiroshi over one. He won and wears it from that point onward.
* BigBad: He is the leader of the enemy organization Kiss who wants to capture the Vox units and destroy Le Garite, [[spoiler:though Dizelmine takes the position from him later on, and both of them are pawns of Moid]].
* BigBadEnsemble: [[spoiler:Built up as this with Dizelmine in Season 2, but subverted in that he makes a HeelFaceTurn, while Dizelmine becomes a mindless puppet of Moid.]]
* DiscOneFinalBoss: [[spoiler:In Season 2, he ultimately proves to be a lesser threat to Dizelmine, and Moid behind him.]]
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:Eventually joins up with Novumundos against the Polyhedron Federation, [[AntiVillain not that he was much of a villain to begin with]].]]
%% * JerkWithAHeartOfGold
* NobleFugitive: He's a deposed prince. [[spoiler:Subverted in Season 2, where he takes the throne of De Metrio. Then at the very end he formally abdicates to spend more time with Dizelmine and help mend their broken friendship.]]
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Has some shades of this in Season 1, but becomes more overt in Season 2. In particular, he's more levelheaded such as when [[spoiler: Muginami goes off to see Madoka without informing De Metrio's forces]] and does everything he can to honor the agreements his made despite [[spoiler:Dizelmine's plans otherwise]].
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: He is a former prince who leads his organization in battle.
* ShooTheDog: When he hears that Muginami made the Vox Ignis hers without his permission to help Kiss, he calls her a parasite and totally useless for Kiss. While his harsh words leave Muginami in tears and Madoka pissed at him, it's more than implied that he did that to keep Muginami away from Kiss so she doesn't become an outlaw like him.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: He used to be ''nothing'' like what he has become as of the present. He was in the exact same position as Muginami -- poor, starving, and gentle.
* VillainsOutShopping: The first we see much of him for more than a second, he's in a well-mannered bout with Hiroshi over a fur coat, which he eventually buys.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Used to have this relationship with Dizelmine.

Dizelmine's scientist companion and advisor who was an observator at Pharos during the first season, and since then returned to assist his master. The true antagonist of the series, he used Villagulio as a pawn, manipulated Dizelmine into opening the Rin-ne, and is also responsible for Queen Maycun nearly destroying the Earth 20,000 years ago, all to discover what lies inside the Rin-ne.
----
* BasedOnAGreatBigLie: His story about the Vox machines being weapons of mass destruction was a lie [[DivideAndConquer to get Villagulio to oppose Dizelmine]], this giving Moid a handy excuse to get Dizelmine to do what he wants.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: He badly wants to discover what's inside the Rin-ne, even if that causes an apocalypse. He got his wish... right after it accepted Madoka's marching song (which he deems dreadful) as its voice.
* BigBad: He is the real villain who [[PlayingBothSides played both Villagulio and Dizelmine for fools]] to open the Rin-ne and bring about the apocalypse.
* DisappearsIntoLight: At the end of the series. Given that this is what happened to Yurikano, it's possible that [[BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor he may have finally entered Rin-ne after all]].
* DivideAndConquer: He does this by lying about the Vox units, calling them dangerous weapons, so the two kings will fight each other over it, making the king he serves easier to manipulate.
* DoubleAgent: Tends to switch allegiances between Le Garite, Novumundos, the Jersey Club trio, and De Metrio on a whim. Ultimately subverted, as he's only in it ForScience
* EvilAllAlong: He initially seems to be a friend of Lan and thus a good guy, but is the true mastermind behind the war.
* EyesAlwaysShut: Even when he's being particularly maniacal, such as yelling at Tadokoro because he wants to watch the flowers of the Rin-ne, his eyes remain shut.
** It's even joked about in the {{Omake}} for volume 4. Apparently, while Moid would be quite handsome with his eyes open, it would also herald the end of the world. Of course, this is most likely Dizelmine having a joke at Lan's expense.
** He finally opens his eyes in the finale. Right before he DisappearsIntoLight.
* {{Expy}}: He is, initially, very reminiscent of [[LightNovel/HaruhiSuzumiya Itsuki Koizumi]]; a benevolent, soft-spoken, and polite ally of the main characters who nevertheless tends to get on their nerves, and can come across as quite sneaky and untrustworthy at times. Both even have EyesAlwaysShut. As it later turns out, he is essentially an ''[[EvilCounterpart evil]]'' Koizumi.
* FauxAffablyEvil: He always acts eerily polite to everyone he interacts with, rarely breaking from his character.
* ForScience: More than willing to manipulate anyone just to discover what's inside the Rin-ne, even if it caused Queen Maycun to accidentally almost destroy the world.
* JabbaTableManners: It is already made clear that there's something ''off'' about him, and in the light-hearted Episode 7 the viewer may let their guard down for a second when they see that he ordered [[SweetTooth a pudding and ice cream platter more beffitting a teenage girl than a man of his age]] ([[[ReallySevenHundredYearsOld at least 20,000 years old]], as he turned out to be). And then, for the first time in the show, he becomes ''genuinely creepy'' as he mashes the ice cream and pudding into a revolting slurry-like porridge and ''then'' consumes it, much to Shozo's horror.
** He does it again in the Season 2 finale, still as revoltingly, as he [[PassThePopcorn prepares to watch the world be destroyed by the Rin-ne]], a spectacle that he has spent the whole series waiting for. He then throws the food off the table in anger when his plan is foiled.
* LaserGuidedKarma: The series is averse to showing onscreen death, so he just DisappearsIntoLight in the finale, most likely [[BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor being snatched away into the Rin-ne]].
* MadScientist: He causes an entire war in order to bring about an apocalyptic event, just to study it ForScience
* TheManBehindTheMan: To Villagulio, who was an UnwittingPawn he needed to create an enemy for Diezelmine. He invented the story about the Vox units to provoke Villagulio into attacking Dizelmine.
* TheManInFrontOfTheMan: Though he supposedly works under Asteria and Diezelmine, he is using them both to fulfill his own plans. In fact, he is the one that turned Queen Maycun, Asteria’s past self, insane.
* ManipulativeBastard: He's the one who maneuvered Queen Maycun into opening the Rin-ne and unleashing the disaster, and plays Dizelmine like a fiddle to do the same thing.
* NonActionBigBad: He never faces off with Madoka and her friends nor does he have any direct interaction with them.
* OverarchingVillain: He appears in both seasons and is the reason every bad thing has happened.
* PassThePopcorn: When the Rin-he is about to open and destroy the world, he sits down and [[JabbaTableManners munches on]] some ice cream and pudding, waiting for the grand finale of the plan he had been orchestrating.
* PerpetualSmiler: Save for a handful of moments where his composure breaks, he always sports the same smug smile.
* PsychoticSmirk: Sported many of these during the end, as he anticipates the opening of the Rin-ne.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: He's over 20,000 years old, same as Asteria.
* ShirtlessScene: Doubles as FanDisservice, because when it happens, it's revealed that the entirety of his torso is tattooed with faux-Memorias. Being in the throes of madness doesn't help.
* TheStoic: Always seen with either a neutral expression or that creepy grin until Episode 12.
* SweetTooth: Usually delights in eating ice cream, pastries and parfaits.
* TreacherousAdvisor: 20,000 years' worth of treachery under Maycun, Dizelmine, and the [[PowerTrio Jersey Club]]'s noses.
* TheUnfought: Despite being the mastermind of the whole war, and of the apocalypse in the backstory, the heroines never confront him ''or even learn of his treachery onscreen'', instead fighting [[UnwittingPawn Dizelmine]] as the FinalBoss while Moid simply watches and then [[DisappearsIntoLight vanishes]].
* VillainExitStageLeft: Attempted, but failed as he DisappearsIntoLight.
* VillainousBreakdown: In the end, he's visibly angry that Madoka ends up being the voice of the Rin-ne. [[MoodSwinger He quickly gets over it]], [[VillainExitStageLeft resolving to start anew]]... and then promptly DisappearsIntoLight.
* WalkingSpoiler: His role as the true BigBad, rather than the benevolent-if-weird advisor he seems to be in Season 1, or TheDragon he seems to be in Season 2, makes him this.

-->"HIROSHI!"
* FreakyFridayFlip: [[spoiler:With Yurikano in Season 2, thanks to a Polyhedron project intended to give them full control of the Vox Aura.]]
* GenkiGirl
* PluckyGirl
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Gives one to both [[spoiler:Dizelmine and Villaguilo]] in Season 2 after punching them in the gut.
* {{Schoolgirl Lesbian|s}}

[[folder:Muginami]]

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/AiKayano (Japanese) and Creator/KarenStrassman (English)

* CatchPhrase: "Kashikomari!" ("Roger that!")

* ObliviousToLove: Apparently has no idea that her assistant is interested in her.
* OutOfFocus: Throughout Season 2, she loses a lot of prominence and barely has lines each episode.

->'''Voiced by:''' Kazuyuki Okitsu (Japanese) and Creator/VicMignogna (English)
