He's not that big, and there have been many others bigger than him.

* AnimalMotif: Bears. He's physically the largest man encountered short of the White Fang Lieutenant and Yatsuhashi, his name means "Black Bear", his DJ wears a bear costume, and his Mobsters all have the words "bear" engraved on their handaxes.

* DeconstructedTrope: JerkWithAHeartOfGold in ''Literature/RWBYAfterTheFall: Coco has a ''very'' large and fragile ego, constantly trying to prove herself just as good as other well known huntresses like Glynda and Rumpole. While her heart is in the right place, and she desperately wants to help people, her drive to avoid past failures that led to her being unable to save lives means that holds onto the reins of leadership too tightly, bossing her team and making decisions on what's best for them without considering what they want, and dismissing advice and feedback. When an emotion-amplifying Semblances brings Velvet and Fox's resentment to the surface about how they feel jerked and bossed around, she begins working on self-improvement to become a better leader. In ''Literature/RWBYBeforeTheDawn'', she is so judgemental of Sun's failings as a leader, that her team has to point out to her that there's a difference between good critique and unreasonable criticism, and that she still needs to work on her own jerkassery as part of becoming a better leader and person; this is feedback that she accepts.

A character that doesn't start off as a perfect leader and who has to learn how to be a good one, isn't a deconstruction of the trope, it's just characters developing. However, what is being criticised and played to its logical conclusion is Jerk With A Heart Of Gold. The JWAHOG entry is already pointing this out without fully admitting the deconstruction. Meanwhile the Deconstructed Trope entry is talking more about JWAHOG than The Leader, so I've switched the trope and merged it with the JWAHOG entry. Sun is a deconstruction of The Dulcinea Effect, not The Leader.

* DeconstructedTrope: TheLeader in ''Literature/RWBYAfterTheFall'': While under the effects of the Caspian's Semblance, which amplifies existing emotions, Velvet and Fox reveal that they harbor some resentment towards Coco due to the fact she doesn't lead them, she bosses them around. She neglects to take their concerns into account and makes decisions for them. Coco takes their issues to heart and begins working to be more conscientious of her team and learn how to be a proper leader. In the sequel ''Literature/RWBYBeforeTheDawn'', she clashes with Team SSSN, which is having a similar problem with their leader, Sun. Her team makes it clear that there's a fine line between critiquing Sun and being unreasonable, showing that her own self-improvements are still a work in progress.

* BoringButPractical: The practicality of Kandi's weapon is subverted. Roman isn't impressed when Kandi pulls out a slingshot on him, but the Dust vials she fires at him cover him with Dust powder that stick to him, before exploding to injure him; the powder also sticks him to the floor, trapping him in place. It initially seems very practical and effective until she starts using its sonic wave to shatter the vials. It also shatters other glass in the area, such as a large window that endangers customers lives and gives Roman an escape route he didn't previously have.

Tweaking because it's a reconstruction.

* DeceasedParentsAreTheBest: Compared to Raven who abandoned her family outright and Taiyang who struggled to care for them in the wake of losing two wives, Summer appears to have been the perfect parent for both Ruby and Yang. This is deconstructed in that Ruby died young enough that she remembers Summer less as a person and more as an ideal, namely an ideal [[PerfectionIsImpossible she can't live up to]]. [[spoiler:Learning about her mother's flaws was a rude awakening for her, but she eventually realizes that Summer was simply human and so is she.]]

Compared to Raven who abandoned her family outright and Taiyang who struggled to care for them in the wake of losing two wives, Summer appears to have been the perfect parent for both Ruby and Yang.Yang. This is because she disappeared when Ruby and Yang were very young, enabling them to create idealised versions of her in their minds. This is deconstructed in that Ruby died young enough that she remembers Summer less as a person and more as an ideal, namely an ideal [[PerfectionIsImpossible she can't live up to]]. [[spoiler:Learning [[spoiler:This is reconstructed when learning about her mother's flaws was in Volume 9; this is a rude awakening for her, but she eventually realizes that Summer was simply human and so is she.]]

* WartsAndAll: Since she died when Ruby was young, Ruby has spent her life learning about Summer from those who loved and admired her, describing her as a paragon of a Huntress, a leader, and a hero. No heroic character has ever had anything bad to say about her, and Ruby feels pressure to live up to her legacy. In "Of Solitude and Self" [[spoiler:Ruby finally gets to see the night when Summer left, which reveals she was kind and loving, but also sometimes lied, made bad decisions, and was cold towards Raven. This causes Ruby to realize that no one was perfect, not even her mother, and therefore she doesn't have to be either.]]

* LikeMotherLikeDaughter: Ruby's strong resemblance to Summer isn't simply physical. People who knew her mother comment that her personality seems to be similar, too. When Ruby tries to encourage Raven to join forces with the heroes against Salem, Raven bitterly observes that she sounds just like her mother. When Ruby tells Salem that the heroes will stop her, Salem calmly informs her that her mother said those exact same words to her... and was wrong, too.

** [[spoiler:Her appearance in Volume 9 shows that Yang took cues from her as well, particularly in her coldness towards people who have disappointed her. They even shoulder shove Raven the same way.]]
