Even when relegated to the background during the Colossaeus arc, his threat looms. He is also responsible for kidnapping Mira, killing some of her friends, having her lover murdered and enslaving her people in the first place. The Chieftain is the main threat in Spear and Fang's story as his recapture of Mira in the first season finale is the cause of the duo's quest to rescue her and her people and return her home.

* Foil: To Spear. Both are driven to revenge after their families are killed but while Spear realises how hollow vengeance is, the Chieftain becomes ever more obsessed and every loss makes him fall deeper into the well.

** She's shocked when Red attacks and eats the Celtics, refusing to do the same until they start attacking her and even then only to defend herself; she doesn't regard them as a meal the same way Red does. There's also an implication that she's never really hunted humans for food, given how ambivalent she seems to be around them when not being threatened or how her hatchlings don't regard Spear with any wariness or hostility. She is clearly considering eating Amara when she sees her but the is is after months of having to kill and eat humans while fighting under Ima.

However, it's later clarified that the helmeted viking's resemblance to him to purely accidental, and the Chieftain is as confused as the audience when he appears before him in a dream with no hints of his presence in the season beforehand.

* NoNameGiven: All we've seen of him is Mira's drawings and untranslated conversation that Spear cannot fully understand. The title of "The Scorpion" comes from the scorpion insignia that he marks his property -- items, boats and slaves alike -- with, and the title of Mira's introductory episode calling her the 'Slave of the Scorpion'. Other than that, he doesn't seem to have any spoken name yet, and Mira's drawings don't show any such scorpion traits on him himself. His on-screen appearance in "Vidarr" indicates that he has no direct connection with the Viking slavers who captured Mira given their Chieftain's terror and confusion of him when they meet in a dream, making his connection to the brand and why it was so prominent on the Viking's insignias unclear. He himself doesn't show any physical scorpion traits, and all that is known about his existence is that Mira knows of him, and vice versa, given he showed himself to the chieftain because of his antagonism and pursuit of the trio, Mira included.

The title of "The Scorpion" Scorpion comes from the scorpion insignia assumption that he marks his property -- items, boats and slaves alike -- with, and was the title of Mira's introductory episode calling her one behind Mira’s enslavement. The reveal he is a demonic entity obviously changed this but the 'Slave of the Scorpion'. Other than that, he doesn't seem to have any spoken name yet, and Mira's drawings don't show any such scorpion traits on him remained. Many theorise he is either Satan, Surtur or Vidarr himself. His on-screen appearance in "Vidarr" indicates that he has no direct connection with the Viking slavers who captured Mira given their Chieftain's terror and confusion of him when they meet in a dream, making his connection to the brand and why it was so prominent on the Viking's insignias unclear. * SlaveBrand: His method of identifying his property. Seen on the back of Mira's head, as well as on the sail of his ships. However, the viking Chieftain's confusion and terror of him when he appears in a dream before him implies that whatever the brand is supposed to represent, this flaming HornedHumanoid is unconnected to it.
* SlaveryIsASpecialKindOfEvil: Without knowing much else about them, the fact that they run a slaving operation instantly marks them as a particularly despicable villain, especially in this primitive world where Necessary Evils committed only in the name of survival are the norm. However, the viking Chieftain's confusion at his appearance before him in a dream reveals that the Scorpion himself is apparently unconnected to his people's way of life, except through the slaves they traffic that apparently know of him.
* TheUnseen: He has yet to appear in person in the series proper. He finally makes a one-off appearance in "Vidarr", appearing during the Chieftain's dreams about his deceased family, apparently summoned/drawn to him by his strong need for vengeance upon his enemies. However, outside that nightmare he takes no part in the events of the episode, and it's made clear that whatever he is, he's completely alien to the conflict between the vikings and Spear and Fang.

* FireForgedFriends: At first they had issues that almost led them to fight over dominance, but after enough time together while saving each other, now they would do anything to protect one another.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: Their's is an (obviously) non-romantic relationship but either would die to save the other without hesitation, and they are lifelong friends. While Spear feels isolated by Fang having children and Mira returning home, Fang's actions shows he's nothing to worry about about as she promptly breaks through a stonewall to share a home with him in Mira's village.

* DetrimentalDetermination: Their Determinator tendencies are heavily Deconstructed. The idea of quitting or stopping their actions before the cost becomes too much for them never seems to enter their head as a collective whole. Their members continue attacking Spear and Fang -- even driving them backwards into the village when they were attempting to exit it at first -- no matter how many of them they mow through, even including their elderly and young children in attacking the duo, much to Spear's horror. Rikka's youngest son continues attacking Spear even when he runs out of arrows, apparently not even considering how poor an idea it was to attack a super-strong Caveman close-range, which understandably leads to his accidental death. Even when the duo try to flee again mid-fight after slaughtering around half the village, the remaining ones continue attacking them until they reach their RageBreakingPoint, and some of the villagers are only seen trying to flee when their numbers have been reduced almost to nothing. The Chieftain still has his oldest son alive by the end, but rather than accepting that part of his family remains alive, he has his son armour up with him and prepare to hunt down Spear and Fang, risking his surviving kin's life to avenge those deceased. This trait was hinted at back in Season one, as the Vikings apparently went out of their way to track down Mira, a sole escaped slave, in a hostile land after she escape from them on open sea, rather than letting her go. [[spoiler:Mira's translated dialogue about her backstory and her flashback show she was being taken to be sold when she escaped. She was one of (as we later see) many slaves but they went to such extremes to recapture one. It speaks volumes to the Vikings' stubbornness that they refused to let her go despite the risks.]]
