In Kitakami, Applin also have the option of evolving into Dipplin, a Pokémon that resembles a candy apple. It is in fact two creatures living within the apple: One that has its head and a stick-like horn sticking out on the top, and the other within the apple apart from its tail in the back. They produce a super sweet syrup within their bodies which they coat their apples with. They can also use this Syrup in their signature move Syrup Bomb, a move which lowers the target's speed each turn for three turns, and its ability, Supersweet Syrup, which lowers the opponent's evasion upon Dipplin being sent out.

** The Applin line (save Dipplin) are the only Pokémon with the Ripen Ability, which ripens Berries in order to double their effect. Dipplin gets Supersweet Syrup instead, which lowers the evasiveness of opposing Pokemon.

* StickySituation: Dipplin's signature move Syrup Bomb lowers the target's speed each turn for three turns. Also, its ability, Supersweet Syrup, lowers the opponent's evasion upon Dipplin being sent out.

* MeaningfulName: A variant - Applin and Dipplin's names are incredibly similar, both in Japanese and in English. This references how Dipplin's external appearance isn't very different to that of Applin's. Also, being comprised of ''two'' wyrms, its name, Dipplin also harks to the word ''diplo-'', meaning 'double, two of'.

* MightyGlacier: Appletun has high HP, decent defenses, and good Special Attack, but it's extremely slow. Dipplin also has good bulk, but poor speed.

* MeaningfulName: A variant - Applin and Dipplin's names are incredibly similar, both in Japanese and in English. This references how Dipplin's external appearance isn't very different to that of Applin's.

* ShoulderSizedDragon: Both Flapple and Appletun are the smallest Dragon-type Pokémon ever, being 20 and 10 cm smaller than Noibat, respectively.

* {{Nerf}}: As no Pokemon are able to learn Grassy Glide in ''Scarlet and Violet'', the line got hit hard with the loss of it as Grassy Glide complements well with their hidden ability. Additionally, the line lost access to High Horsepower and Superpower.

* BritishRockstar: Toxtricity is based on rock musicians- its ability is even called "Punk Rock"- and it’s native to the UK-based Galar region.

** Specially-trained Corviknight serve as Galar's airborne taxi service (carrying in their claws a little booth the passenger sits in while their trainer rides them), and over the course of the game, you meet various people involved in organizing and training them (a tired worker Corviknight taking a rest even [[NPCRoadblock serving as a roadblock]] early in the game). They can shuttle the player around between any one of several locations they've already visited, taking the role of the Fly HM in previous games. There is a variation in the city of Wyndon, where you can take Corviknight taxis you find in the overworld to different parts of the city; this is notably the only place where the fast travel is accompanied by a full animation showing the Corviknight taking off with you and its rider. Interestingly, the game notes that at one point Braviary was considered for this role, however Corviknight was chosen over it due to being singnificantly more dependable and easier to train for the role.

* TwoMenOneDress: The two "wyrms" that make up Dipplin give off the appearance of a single being.

* KickChick: Females of the species qualify for this trope by their nature; Raboot is explicitly stated in ''Shield'' to use berries to practice its kicking skills, and the Pyro Ball attack involves kicking a flaming object at the target. Being a starter species, this is appropriately rare.

In Paldea Sinistea instead evolves into Poltchageist, a Grass/Ghost type who lives in old houses.

* GreenThumb: In a way. The line can learn three health/strength-sapping moves naturally and the status-effect-clearing Aromatherapy. They're all Grass-type moves, but they befit a Ghost-type Pokémon that can absorb people's life force, while Aromatherapy is appropriate for a tea-based Pokémon. Its Paldean evolution Poltchageist is part Grass.

That, coupled with Rillaboom's monster Attack versus Inteleon's paper-thin Defense, ends with the gorilla drumming up a storm and the lizard in a bloodied heap.

* ThisLooksLikeAJobForAquaman: Inteleon seems built to keep Cinderace in check, as Inteleon's Speed is one point higher than Cinderace, and, lacking any good Electric-Type and Grass-Type moves [[note]]Cinderace can learn Electro Ball, but it's a Special Move, so it can't do much damage with Cinderace's low Special Attack.[[/note]], Cinderace is unable to hit Inteleon for super-effective damage. Together, these traits allows Inteleon to safely control the pace of battle when Cinderace is on the other side of the field.[[note]]This is assuming Cinderace hasn't had any Speed boosts via Max Airstream, at least.[[/note]]
