* EvilVirtues: Believe it or not, gratitude and (a warped idea of) love. Overhaul is sincerely grateful to his adoptive father, the boss of the Shie Hassaikai, for taking him in as a child, and wants the Hassaikai to rise to its former glory for his sake. So much that he was willing to put the boss in a coma when said boss disapproved of his methods for making Quirk-erasure bullets, believing what he was doing was in the boss's best interests. [[spoiler:When he loses both arms courtesy of Mr. Compress and Shigaraki, his first horrified thought is not that he's lost his Quirk, but that he can't heal the boss of the coma he put him in.]]

* {{Bishonen}}: Downplayed. He's tall and has an androgynous face, with thin eyebrows, narrow eyes, prominent eyelashes, a short, narrow nose, and a pointed chin. His build, however, is actually large and muscular as seen in his ShirtlessScene, though not to the extent of All Might or Endeavor.

* {{Foil}}:
** Both Overhaul and Shigaraki have TouchOfDeath powers, lead groups of villains, and want to take the spot of All For One as king of the underworld. However, Shigaraki is a PsychopathicManchild who often relies on sheer strength to solve a problem, ignoring the idea of making complex plans or seeking any gain that is not simply to take All For One's spot, while Overhaul is levelheaded, keeps a calm tone all the time and has a bigger plan to take over, which includes large sums of money or getting Shigaraki's "overhyped villains". Both hide their faces, but while Overhaul still seems to have a relatively normal face that shows seriousness and calm, has dark hair and clear eyes, Shigaraki's hand covers all of his face beside his eyes and is way creepier, has gray hair and red eyes. Overhaul's costume includes gloves and a plague doctor's mask because he hates being touched by people, while Shigaraki's entire motif is being covered by hands. Shigaraki, while skeptical at first, eventually learned to accept his teammates as TrueCompanions, while Overhaul sees his as expendable pawns and would even [[BadBoss kill them]] for minor infractions. [[spoiler:Both of them are also obsessed with living up to their adoptive father figures, but Shigaraki obeys All For One even when he disagrees with him, while Overhaul is willing to cripple his yakuza father figure out of a misguided desire to show him that his way is the best way to look out for his interests]].
** Mirio and Overhaul are both introduced at around the same time and demonstrate their potential to become the next BigGood and BigBad, respectively, over their chosen successors. However, their circumstances couldn't be more different. While Midoriya looks up to Mirio, to the point where he questions his right to have One For All, Shigaraki absolutely despises Overhaul and has his own motives for working together. [[spoiler:By the end, all Overhaul can do is cry out in despair as Shigaraki cuts his arms off, rendering him effectually Quirkless and takes his life's work for his own gain. Midoriya offers One For All to the now Quirkless Mirio, but the latter declines.]]

Unfortunately, his impatience and lack of diplomacy not only gained him attention from Pro Heroes, but also alienated the League of Villains as an ally. By the end of the arc, not only is his organization crushed, but after the heroes defeat him, [[spoiler:the League of Villains decide to [[KickThemWhileTheyAreDown mount an attack against him while he is helpless]] and steal the materials used to make his Quirk nullifying bullets, which were used to remove Mirio's Quirk, and destroy his arms that he needs to use his Quirk, taking away ''everything'' Overhaul ever had and leaving him functionally Quirkless and broken]].
** [[spoiler:When he and Izuku Midoriya meet again after the latter's fight with Lady Nagant, Izuku Midoriya promises to help fulfil her deal with Chisaki Overhaul to meet the boss after he shows his sincere remorse and empathy towards his adoptive father's current condition-- but only if Chisaki Overhaul can sincerely express that same empathy towards Eri and apologise to her for everything he'd put her through. Chisaki's Overhaul's expression at that statement implies he struggles to grasp the concept, meaning that the same LackOfEmpathy that made him such an abusive monster towards Eri is now the same one thing that's denying him his only remaining desire in life]].life.]]

viscous is a state of liquid, vicious is cruel

* AxCrazy: As if he wasn't viscous enough as he blows off Mr. Compress' arm for merely touching him. He goes straight off the deep end fighting Mirio who has the combat skill to match him and maniacally disgracing his attempts to save Eri. Even against his final opponent Izuku he intends on gaining more power by fusing with his subordinates thus becoming monstrously insane and attacking wildly as if he were a raging animal.

Ambiguous Disorder is not a trope anymore, but a redirect to a YMMV entry.

* AmbiguousDisorder: He seems to have some degree of OCD or mysophobia. He gets extremely uncomfortable and violent when someone touches him and he constantly comments about cleanliness and dirtiness.

** He tells Midoriya that Eri's Quirk is dangerous and that she has no control over it. While that doesn't justify his treatment of her, he's right about this.
