So the whole thing with Schezo possessing Test Body was never a thing, people just made that up. Also, I'm just assuming that Schezo didn't even create it either, since a discussion with Neni seems to imply it's nothing more than just a Giant Space Flea From Nowhere.

The final foe Arle faces in her first encounter with Schezo, an experimental mound of BodyHorror that Schezo possesses after Arle decapitates him. The beast's nature is a mystery.

* AerithAndBob: Its name kinda sticks out as odd, even in this series. The best explanation is that it's some kind of monstrous body Schezo created, either as a minion or a back-up body, considering its role in the final fight.

* DemonicPossession: Well, ''"Dark Mage Possession"'' to be exact. Schezo transfers his consciousness into this thing in a last ditch effort to kill Arle. It doesn't work.
* EldritchAbomination: Not a lot of creatures are born naturally with a leg of exposed viscera and strands of flesh sticking to the walls. It seems to be something Schezo made himself.

* OlderThanTheyLook: Despite being 65 years old, she looks almost identical to her granddaughter Witch, albeit somewhat taller and with silver hair. This is because, like all sorcerers in the greater ''Puyo Puyo'' franchise, she stopped her aging process upon reaching adulthood using magic.

A rotting magic guru who serves as the final boss of Madou Monogatari I and creates a hideous illusion of Arle's kindergarten friends melting into hideous figures. In Madou Monogatari: Hanamaru Dai Youchienji, he is portrayed as a goofy character with attitude and possessed by Devil for his power.

!Camus

--> '''First Appearance:''' ''Madou Monogatari I: 3-tsu no Madouryoku''
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_inline_p6w3hmphec1r1cdpj_500.png]]

A classmate of Arle's who helps her in the graduation exam in ''Madou Monogatari I (Mega Drive)'' and is constantly pined after by Lala, who loves him.

* BadassCape: Wears two capes, much like Schezo in ''Tower of the Magician''.
* TakingTheBullet: Will take a blow for Arle during her fight against Fudoushi, in the Game Gear version of ''Madou Monogatari I''.
* TricksterMentor: Appears at various points in the story to help Arle collect equipment, but there are times Arle must fight him to progress.

!Count
--> '''First Appearance:''' ''Madou Monogatari R''
[[quoteright:219:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/grph0309.png]]

A bloodsucking vampire with a taste for virgin blood, and is depicted as Rulue's arch-nemesis. Similar to his cronies (Demiserf, Vampire, and Water Element), he usually appears in Rulue-centric adventures.

* BadassInANiceSuit: Waistcoat, but it works.
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Has not appeared in a game since ''Rulue's Spring Break of Fists''.
* FangsAreEvil: Has some prominent fangs, for obvious reasons.
* HulkingOut: Does this in ''Rulue's Spring Break of Fists'', powering himself up following his first defeat in the game.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: When Rulue first comes across him, he immediately overpowers her by way of an ambush, sucking her blood and weakening her greatly. However, once the Dark Prince steps in to assist, he ends up on the receiving end of one, courtesy of Rulue, the Dark Prince, and Carbuncle.
* PointyEars
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Gains these when in his powered-up form.
* TrampledUnderfoot: Following his defeat in ''ARS'', he ends up on the receiving end of this trope courtesy of Rulue, as he tries to get back up and attack Dark Prince, who is currently reconciling with Carbuncle.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: Well, blond hair. But the point still stands.

!Dark Matter

--> '''First Appearance:''' ''Madou Monogatari: Tower of the Magician''
[[quoteright:224:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dark_matter_21.png]]

A dark wizard bent on world domination. Wish killed him fifty years before the events of ''Tower of the Magician'', but his restless spirit returned to her tower during Witch's magical certification exam.

* ApocalypseHow: Was trying to cause a Regional type to TakeOverTheWorld before being killed.
* CameBackStrong: Was strong enough as a ghost to defeat Wish, who'd previously killed him.
* DarkIsEvil: Was trying to TakeOverTheWorld before Wish killed him.
* DemonicPossession: [[spoiler: Possesses Wish after Schezo defeats him in his standard form.]]
* FinalBoss: Of ''Tower of the Magician.''
* GeometricMagic: Uses spell circles to cast magic.
* HumanoidAbomination: A mummylike spirit with four hands.
* KnightOfCerebus: ''Tower of the Magician'' is a fairly light-hearted game... Then he shows up.
* MultiArmedAndDangerous: Has four hands.
* OrbitalBombardment: Said to have dragged meteors from the sky to rain down on land before being killed by Wish.
* PlayingWithFire: Ultimate Flare.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Has glowing red eyes, which [[spoiler: people he possesses also take on.]]
* RedRightHand: [[spoiler: His possessed victims take on his glowing red eyes and his hands appear around them.]]
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: The whole reason his spirit came back.
* SquishyWizard: Relies entirely on spells to attack.
* StarPower: Shooting Star, Black Eclipse.
* VileVillainSaccharineShow: He's the FinalBoss of one of the more lighthearted ''Madou Monogatari'' games.

!Fudoushi

--> '''First Appearance:''' ''Madou Monogatari I''

A rotting magic guru who serves as the final boss of Madou Monogatari I and creates a hideous illusion of Arle's kindergarten friends melting into hideous figures. In Madou Monogatari: Hanamaru Dai Youchienji, he is portrayed as a goofy character with attitude and possessed by Devil for his power.

* FinalBoss: Of ''Madou Monogatari I''.
* HumanoidAbomination: A rotting wizard.
* KnightOfCerebus: While ''Madou I'' has a couple of fairly dark moments, his presence is infamous for the illusions he inflicts upon a '5-year old' Arle. When you see this guy, you ''know'' [[DarkerAndEdgier this version of the game’s certainly not the typical lighthearted Puyo fare]].
* LighterAndSofter: His appearance in ''Hanamaru Dai Youchienji'' gives him a less visibly grotesque design and a much goofier personality and he's not even the final boss, with Devil instead taking control of him to power himself up, while Fudoushi is helpless to stop him.
** Even the Game Gear and PC Engine versions of ''Madou Monogatari I'' give him a less realistically horrific design.
* MultiArmedAndDangerous: Has tentacles growing from almost every part of the lower half of his body.
* SquishyWizard: Relies entirely on spells to attack.

!Lala

--> '''First Appearance:''' ''Madou Monogatari I (Mega Drive)''
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_inline_p6w3lpo6j21r1cdpj_400.png]]
A former classmate of Arle's who madly in love and obsessed with Camus in the Mega Drive version of ''Madou Monogatari I''. Throughout the game, she pops up at random times to get in Arle's way, but can and will chase Camus around when he shows up.

* TheBusCameBack: She gets to appear in ''The Final Test'', [[DemotedToExtra but only as a minor NPC.]]
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: She hasn't appeared in any other games since ''Madou Monogatari: The Final Test''.
* TheRival: One of Arle's less persistent rivals, but it still applies. She sneaks into the tower to sabotage Arle for being undeserving of ascending to tower...when she missed the exam herself due to sickness.
* TheUnfought: Is never fought or even seen in any combat, despite her status as one of Arle's rivals.

!Lilith

--> '''First Appearance:''' ''Madou Monogatari: The Final Test''

A powerful spellcaster from the early days of the Madou world, who fought the Creator of the world but died doing so. [[spoiler: She was Dark Prince's wife, and reincarnated into Arle following her death.]]

* AscendedToAHigherPlaneOfExistence: How she is said to have "died" upon using the Seraphim Orb to rewrite the world.
* BadassCape: Wears two capes, much like Schezo in ''Tower of the Magician''.
* ChosenOne: Wielded the Seraphim Orb, which [[spoiler: was supposed to pass on to Arle due to Arle being her reincarnation.]]
* {{Doppelganger}}: Takes on the form of one [[spoiler: to Arle.]]
* FireIceLightning: Dark Blizzard, Heavenly Thunder, Flame Tornado.
* TheLostLenore: To Dark Prince. [[spoiler: He pursues Arle in part because she is Lilith's reincarnation.]]
* PaletteSwap: Appears as a purple version of [[spoiler: Arle,]] and is mistaken for a Doppelganger as a result.
* PurpleIsPowerful: Her main colour is purple and she is [[spoiler: an even more powerful version of Arle.]]
* TricksterMentor: Appears to Arle to help her collect equipment to fight the Phantom God in ''Madou Monogatari: The Final Test'', but Arle must chase her through a labyrinth to do so.

!Rune Lord
--> '''First Appearance:''' ''Madou Monogatari S''

The Dark Wizard that preceded Schezo. Long before the events of Schezo's story in ''ARS'', his body was destroyed by a hero, but his spirit lived on.

* BigBad: Of Schezo's story in ''ARS''.
* TheCorrupter: When defeated, he tells Schezo that he has already been corrupted by the Rune Lord's darkness and magic.
* PredecessorVillain: He was the Dark Wizard before Schezo defeated him.
* SmallRoleBigImpact:
** He only appears in one game, but he's strongly implied to be the one responsible for turning Schezo into who he is today, in both personality and powers.
** The ''Shin Madou'' light novels state that the hero that destroyed him was Ragnus, and that Rune Lord cursed him with memory loss and temporary de-aging.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: He has long, white hair, and he's a clearly evil dark wizard.

!Tenori Zoh

--> '''First Appearance:''' ''Madou Monogatari: Tower of the Magician''

A miniature magical elephant Schezo rescues from Incubus in ''Tower of the Magician.''

* CoolPet: A small elephant that cheers Schezo on in fights and can even help him out by firing magic.
* {{Expy}}: He's essentially Schezo's Carbuncle.
* {{Familiar}}: Schezo's magical pet elephant.
* FunSize: He fits in Incubus's palm.
* ParrotPetPosition: Once Schezo rescues him he rides on Schezo's shoulder.
* PlayingWithFire: He can fire a fireball at enemies.
* PomPomGirl: Cheers Schezo on with pom poms, among other things.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Despite being Schezo's equivalent of Carbuncle, he never managed to make it into any other games.

!Test Body
--> '''First Appearance: ''' ''Madou Monogatari II''
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_173_3.png]]

* BodyHorror: ''Just look at it!''
* FlatCharacter: It shows up for one final fight with Arle, and hasn't been seen since. Most bosses and enemies in ''Madou Monogatari'' gained more of a personality in ''Puyo Puyo'', but [[BodyHorror for obvious reasons]], Test Body didn't get the same treatment. It also only appears in the PC-98 version.
* GiantSpaceFleaFromNowhere: Schezo's dungeon is full of random monsters, so Test Body may not stick out much, but nonetheless, it's the final boss with hardly any foreshadowing.
* KilledOffForReal: While Schezo bounced back from his death in ''II'', Test Body hasn't been seen since its fight with Arle. It's far too grotesque to show up in ''Puyo Puyo'', so unless [[YouDontLookLikeYou it gets an overhaul]], it's likely Test Body is still dead.
* KnightOfCerebus: Granted, the game has a good number of creepy enemies, but Test Body is one of those bosses that sticks out like a sore thumb to those more familiar with ''Madou Monogatari''.
* SurpriseCreepy: Assuming you managed to miss some of the less approachable enemies in ''II'', Schezo's decapitation can be pretty jarring...[[FromBadToWorse and then this thing shows up...]]
* TakingYouWithMe: Schezo possesses it in a last-ditch effort to kill Arle.

!Wish

--> '''First Appearance:''' ''Madou Monogatari: Tower of the Magician''
[[quoteright:146:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wish.png]]

Witch's grandmother and a powerful comet witch. Schezo enters her tower with the intention of stealing her powers in ''Tower of the Magician'', but instead ends up on a mission to help Witch save her and the rest of the world from Dark Matter.

* BadassInDistress: [[spoiler: Was defeated by Dark Matter offscreen and later possessed by him.]]
* ContinuityNod: Despite never appearing in a ''Puyo Puyo'' game, her granddaughter Witch seems to either make at least one reference to her, or outright mentions her in almost every game she appears in.
* DemonicPossession: [[spoiler: Is possessed by Dark Matter after Dark Matter loses to Schezo.]]
* FaceDeathWithDignity: [[spoiler: After Schezo defeats Dark Matter and announces his intent to take her magic, she accepts her fate, knowing in her weakened state she is no match for him.]] Ultimately her death is averted since [[spoiler: Schezo decides he'll let her magic recover first and fight her fairly for her power at a later time.]]
* GeometricMagic: Uses spell circles to cast magic.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: ''Tower of the Magician'' starts with the legend of her defeating a great dark wizard who'd tried to TakeOverTheWorld decades earlier.
* KidHero: In her past. She saved the world from Dark Matter at the age of 15.
* MagicStaff: Her primary weapon.
* TheMentor: To Witch.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Despite being 65 years old, she looks almost identical to her granddaughter Witch, albeit somewhat taller and with silver hair.
* PurpleIsPowerful: Wears a purple shawl and she is a powerful comet witch.
* RobeAndWizardHat: Her attire.
* TheShutIn: Hasn't been seen in decades apart from by her granddaughter due to suffering injuries when she first fought Dark Matter.
* SquishyWizard: Has no melee attacks and relies entirely on spells to attack.
* StarPower: Meteor Shower, Cosmic Ray, Black Hole, Big Bang. It runs in the family, seeing as her granddaughter shares some of her spells.
