* BewareTheSillyOnes: While definitely comedic, he's far from harmless, shown especially during Chapter 23 where he destroys the Three Sacred Treausres and actually beats Pit in their first fight. And though Pit puts up a better fight with the Great Sacred Treasure, Hades still manages to claim the upper hand and destroy it. Had Medusa not pulled a {{Villainous Rescue}}, Hades would have killed Pit.

* InvincibleVillain: An odd example of this trope as his invinciblity is mostly due to tactics. Thanks to his XanatosGambit in Ch 10, most of the game is things going his way. Even with the appearance of other [[ArcVillain Arc Villains]], no matter what happens, Hades would get more souls for his realm. And though he's one of the most powerful characters in the game, very little of the game is spent fighting him.

The ''Kid Icarus'' Pandora is a malicious Goddess of Calamity, Disasters, and Deceit. In the NES game, the only thing they had in common was [[InNameOnly their name]]. ''Uprising'' does contain one minor reference to the original myth: she spawns [[ChestMonster fake treasure chests]] called "Pandora's Boxes" that release a barrage of attacks if Dark Pit attempts to open them. Chapter 21 has her moment during the battle against the Chaos Kin, before it can flee once it realizes it's been spotted, Viridi quickly puts up a barrier that prevents it, Pit and Dark Pit from leaving, effectively stopping its retreat. During the battle she puts up an electro-trap in the center of the arena which you can use by cleverly baiting the Chaos Kin to dash at you and run into it instead, allowing you and Dark Pit to land a good number of needed blows should you be unable to keep up with the Chaos Kin's speed. These Chapters also seem to have some importance too her quote from Chapter 16 when asked if she was 'helping' Pit, although there was Dark Pit in this case (it took both Pit and Dark Pit to defeat the Chaos Kin though) as he wasn't present in the Aurum Arc.]]

** To be perfectly fair for his part though, Hades sometimes avoids this trope when asked about what his intentions are...only to actually explain what he's trying to have his army do. Which is quite alarming considering how some of Nintendo's most dangerous villains try to avoid showing how monstrous their plans are to the heroes so their plans aren't foiled. Hades will just bluntly and honestly tell you what his plans are if you ask him at times or if you get close to what his plans are by guessing, he might just agree with you without arguing. Just don't make him mad.

to:

* BlatantLies: He claims he wanted to use the (fake) Wish Seed to revive a girl's parents who he killed in a chariot accident, give them cash, and make them royalty... [[BadLiar Nobody believes it for a second.]]]] He later does this once each during the Aurum Invasion and during the Chaos Arc, although one would question ''why'' Hades is lying when it wounds like he's perfectly honest. For both of those instances, it becomes glaring obvious since another character mentions why said invaders come to planets and the latter becomes a threat due to a chain of results that came from his own actions. To explain this...
** In Chapter 15, Pit angrily asks both Viridi and Hades if they were behind this sudden invasion. Both deny that they were and this is partially true, they didn't know that this would happen until the Aurum attacked them both. When Pyrrhon shows up, the 'Sun' God explains all he knows regarding the Aurum during his brief appearance in the battle, specifically, the Aurum are apparently attracted to 'Destruction and Corruption'. Now think carefully, who started all the chaos in the game starting from the beginning? Hades isn't entirely at fault since everyone (Palutena, Pit, Viridi and the Forces of Nature as well as Hades and the Underworld Army) all were creating chaos but the fact stands that Hades isn't admitting that he is somewhat at fault at the least.
** In Chapter 19, Hades blames Pit for causing the chaos down on Earth since Pit ''did'' free the Chaos Kin. However, that's just the small view of the entire scene. Due to Hades spreading rumors of the fake Wish Seed, which caused humanity to go ballistic over who would get it and as a result caused humans to fight each other to the death, Viridi finally gets fed up with how bad humans are and enters the picture which leads to the Forces of Nature getting involved. With the Forces of Nature now involved, Palutena and Pit are now forced to fight both armies to protect humanity. Anything that poses a threat to humans must be dealt with and be destroyed or defeated. Unfortunately, one of said threats was the Lunar Sanctum...which kept the Chaos Kin imprisoned and Pit under Palutena's orders had to destroy it since it was a threat. Sure Pit freed the Chaos Kin but it was unintentional since he had no idea what would happen if he destroyed said Sanctum, but if Hades didn't drag Viridi and her army into the picture, Pit most likely wouldn't have even been told to go to said place at all. Viridi basically tells Pit [[{{LampshadeHanging}} that Hades and the Underworld Army]] are really the culprits behind the scene. She's actually saying the truth.

-->''"So hurry to me, Pit. I'll strip you of your wings and sever you from the heavens forever!"''

Known for her serpentine hair and chilling gaze, Medusa's goal is nothing less than total domination.

* AchillesHeel: In the first game, the Three Sacred Treasures are the only things that can destroy her. Downplayed in ''Uprising'', where Hades' reviving her weakened her to where Pit no longer needs the Treasures.
* AdaptationalBadass: While Medusa was hardly a pushover in Myth/ClassicalMythology, she was hardly the cosmic-level threat she is here.
* AnimalMotifs: The snake, obviously. In ''Medusa's Revenge'', she is shown to have serpentine pupils.
* {{Animorphism}}: ''Medusa's Revenge'' has her turn into a snake before returning to her normal form to fight Pit.
* AntagonistTitle: ''Medusa's Revenge''.
* ArchEnemy: To Palutena and Pit.
* ArcVillain: She appears to be the BigBad at first in ''Uprising'', but it turns out she's only the villain for the first one-third of the whole game (Chapters 1-9, to be exact).
* AttackOfThe50FootWhatever: In Uprising and in the anime short, ''Medusa's Revenge''.
* BackFromTheDead: In Uprising. And then again at the end of the final level.
* BigBad: In the first game she's the main villain but not in ''Uprising'', where she's just an ArcVillain.
* BodyHorror: Her boss fight reveals she has a mouth on her hand which breathes poison gas. Later on, after going OneWingedAngel, she '''''decapitates herself''''' and sends her head flying after Pit.
* BreathWeapon: The snakes in her hair can fire dark energy blasts from their mouths.
* BrokeYourArmPunchingOutCthulhu: She punches Hades in the head so hard it DECAPITATES him, but doing that breaks off the arm she did it with.
* CainAndAbel: The Cain to Palutena's Abel.
* CardCarryingVillain: She's the Goddess of Darkness and makes no bones about it.
* CastingAShadow: As befits the Goddess of Darkness.
* ClassicVillain: Representing Ambition and Wrath.
* {{Cyclops}}: Her form at the end of ''Kid Icarus''. She once again [[OneWingedAngel takes this form in ''Kid Icarus Uprising'' after receiving enough damage.]]
* DeadpanSnarker: Not as much as other characters in the game, but she has her moments.
* DeathSeeker: Sort of; in Chapter 25, she attacks Hades so he'll stop resurrecting her over and over. It dosen't work too well.
* DetachmentCombat: During the final phase of the fight in ''Uprising'', she will take her head off and send it flying after Pit.
* DiscOneFinalBoss: In ''Uprising''. Thought the game was over? You're not even halfway done.
* EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette: Pale white skin with black hair.
* EvilAlbino: Has pale white skin.
* EvilCounterpart: To Palutena.
* EvilIsBigger: Most of the gods are human-sized, with Palutena only being a little bit taller than Pit, and Viridi being shorter than him. Medusa, however, is absolutely massive. Judging by Pit's reaction though, she wasn't always like this, and it may be a result of her dark magic.
* ExcessiveEvilEyeshadow: Wears a lot of it.
* EyeBeams: Her main method of attack during her fight.
* FallenHero: She once ruled Skyworld alongside Palutena, but her heart turned evil and she began attacking humanity, forcing Palutena to exile her.
* FauxAffablyEvil: She's quite reserved and soft-spoken, but is far from kind.
* FemmeFatalons: Her fingers are claws and she has no problem using them as weapons.
* FinalBoss: Of the first game.
* FoeRomanceSubtext: Quite a bit between her and Pit in Chapter 9.
-->'''Medusa:''' I can sense you getting closer, Pit.
-->'''Pit:''' There's nowhere left for you to run!
-->'''Medusa:''' Y'know, I'm very much looking forward to your arrival. I feel like Rapunzel waiting for her prince.
-->'''Pit:''' Sorry to break it to you, but those aren't exactly golden locks on your head.
-->'''Medusa:''' And you're not exactly a brave hero. Yet somehow the thought of our confrontation fills me with anticipation. So hurry to me, Pit. I'll strip you of your wings and sever you from the heavens forever.
-->'''Pit:''' I don't think so!
* GenericDoomsdayVillain: Played with. Medusa has a defined personality, but is mostly characterized by her lifelong grudge against Pit and Palutena and has no real goals beyond taking revenge on them.
* GlamourFailure: Her AR idol description states that she uses magic to hide her true appearance, but is forced to use all her power into fighting Pit, causing the disguise to fail.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: In the anime short ''Medusa's Revenge'', and ''man'' is it creepy.
* GodOfEvil: Well, one of them, anyway.
* GorgeousGorgon: Was beautiful before Palutena transformed her into a monster in the first game. Became sexy once more in ''Uprising''. [[GlamourFailure Until she was forced to put all her power into fighting Pit, leaving none to maintain her appearance.]]
* HotGoddess: Until she goes OneWingedAngel.
* HumansAreBastards: Medusa developed a hatred for humanity and started drying up their crops and petrifying them, believing them to be ungrateful beings that only turn to the gods when they need them. This is why Palutena turned her into a hideous mosnter and banished her to the Underworld.
-->'''Medusa:''' Humans turn to the gods in times of need, then forget them in times of prosperity. They really are a fickle bunch.
* KnightOfCerebus: Though downplayed, she's the only villain aside from the Chaos Kin to have no comedic elements (Hades is only played serious onscreen). The fact that she's one of the few characters in the game who doesn't break the fourth wall also helps.
* LargeAndInCharge: She's {{Kaiju}}-sized, and by far the largest thing fought except Hades, who is as big as she is.
* TheLastOfTheseIsNotLikeTheOthers: Most of the snakes in her hair are green, with the exception of one, which is orange. When she goes OneWingedAngel, ''all'' of the snakes in her hair turn orange.
* LastSecondChance: Palutena gives Medusa one last chance to surrender by promising to spare her if she agrees to withdraw her forces and remain in her castle. Works as well as you'd expect.
* LongRangeFighter: In terms of fighting style, she prefers to keep her distance and bombard opponents with dark energy blasts, only using melee attacks when the opponent is close enough.
* LoopholeAbuse: In the second phase of the fight, Palutena uses a spell to chain Medusa's legs to the ground to prevent her from teleporting. Medusa circumvents this by decapitating herself and sending her head flying at Pit.
* {{Medusa}}: Well, [[CaptainObvious yeah]].
* MoralMyopia: Resents Palutena for turning her into a monster and exiling her to the Underworld while conveniently ignoring the fact that the reason she did that in the first place was because she was attacking humanity.
* NotSoDifferent: Tries to pull this one on Palutena before Pit shuts her up. However, given Palutena's silence... [[GoodisNotNice she might be right.]]
* ObviouslyEvil: Just look at her.
* OneWingedAngel: In ''Uprising'', she transforms into a more traditional Gorgon who has a head that will chase after you.
* OrcusOnHisThrone: She basically stays in her castle while her commanders do all the work.
* PimpedOutDress: Her dress is rather sexy.
* PoisonousPerson: Has a mouth on her right hand that expels poison gas.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Tries to pull one on Palutena, but [[ShutUpHannibal Pit interrupts her.]]
* RedEyesTakeWarning: When she goes OneWingedAngel.
* {{Revenge}}: Her primary motivation.
* ASinisterClue: She holds her StaffOfAuthority in her left hand, unlike Palutena who holds it in her right.
* SlasherSmile: In ''Medusa's Revenge''.
* SnakesAreSexy: Until she goes OneWingedAngel anyway...
* SoftSpokenSadist: Maintains a deep, feminine voice even as she muses on how a bloodbath would be the perfect way to celebrate her resurrection.
* StaffOfAuthority: In ''Uprising''.
* TheStoic: Is remarkably calm, barely raising her voice even in dire situations, and never suffers a VillainousBreakdown.
* StationaryBoss: Phase two of her three-phase battle in ''Uprising''; Palutena uses a spell to chain her feet to the floor so she'll stop using TeleportSpam. Medusa gets around this later by going OneWingedAngel and throwing her flying head at you.
* TakenForGranite: You wouldn't be Medusa if you didn't do this. Strangely, the only time she uses this ability is during the anime short and unlike the Medusa in classic Greek mythology, she doesn't use her gaze, but rather uses dark energy shot from her fingers.
* TeleportSpam: For such a huge body, she seems to easily teleport all around during her boss fight in Uprising, at least until Palutena manages to chain her to the ground.
* UnwittingPawn: Hades revived her only as a distraction.
* VillainousRescue: In the final portion of the final chapter, Medusa comes out of nowhere and blocks Hades' attack on Pit. She claims that it was because she didn't want to be his puppet anymore, but it was still a huge shocker.
* WorfHadTheFlu: Palutena notes that Medusa seems weaker than she was previously. And this is indeed true as Pit is able to beat her without the use of the Three Sacred Treasures when in the first game, he could only defeat her with the Treasures equipped.

-->''"Welcome to '''my''' underworld, Pitty Pat. You too, Pretty Palutena."''

The true Lord of the Underworld. Other creatures, such as Medusa, are merely his pawns.

'''Many spoilers lie ahead. You have been warned.'''
* AdaptationalBadass: Hades in Greek mythology was powerful, but nowhere at the level of this version, who poses a threat to the entire universe.
* AdaptationalVillainy: Hades in Greek mythology was not a nice guy, but his worst crime was tricking Demeter's daughter into staying in the Underworld. This Hades, by comparison, seeks to kill humanity and harvest their souls for his realm.
* AlienBlood: In Chapter 23, when Dark Pit [[ChestBurster bursts out of his chest with the Lightning Chariot]], Hades is shown to have purple and green blood.
* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: His skin is entirely purple, with a hint of red here and there.
* AppleOfDiscord: Manages to make something ''that doesn't exist'' one, as he spreads the rumor about the Wish Seed to get the humans to kill each other.
* AttackItsWeakPoint: In the second phase of the fight, Pit must destroy the turrets on his body and cape as he works his way up, then fire at the swirling void on his cape. In the third phase, Pit must fire at the glowing wound on his chest left by the Lightning Chariot. In the fourth phase, Pit must fire at the jeweled core created when he regenerates his legs.
* AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever: When Pit finally confronts Hades, his size compared to Pit is gigantic. Pit appears to be the size of one of Hades's fingernails at most.
* AtopAMountainOfCorpses: He wanted to get one started so he could fuel up on souls during the final battle, much to everyone's digust.
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: Is the TopGod of the Underworld and by far and away the most powerful. Though he prefers to rule from the shadows, he has no problem getting his hands dirty if he has to.
* BaconAddiction: He compares souls to bacon in chapter 23: they taste good with everything.
* BadassArmfold: When he's not doing a SlouchOfVillainy, his arms are crossed as a show of his authority.
* BadassBaritone: Courtesy of Scott Bullock.
* BadassCape: It can even shoot lasers!
* BadassInCharge: Of the Underworld.
* BadBoss: In contrast to Palutena and Viridi, Hades does not care about his troops in the slightest. He even lets them fight without a commander, claiming they are too stupid to have actual brains, and later kills Medusa for interfering in the final battle.
* BerserkButton: Judging from his [[UnstoppableRage reactions]] to Dark Pit vowing to stop him in chapter 22 and Medusa's betrayal in the final battle, he ''really'' hates having his rule questioned.
* BlatantLies: He claims he wanted to use the (fake) Wish Seed to revive a girl's parents who he killed in a chariot accident, give them cash, and make them royalty... [[BadLiar Nobody believes it for a second.]]
* BlowYouAway: Transforms into a large tornado during the final battle.
* BodyHorror: Happens throughout his final battle with Pit. First, he gets bifurcated by the Great Sacred Treasure. Then, when charging his most powerful attack, his forehead opens to reveal a large, grotesque ThirdEye and gets his head blown off when Medusa punches him.
* BreathWeapon: Used to destroy the Three Sacred Treasures. Lampshaded by Pit when he says Hades has raunchy breath.
* BrilliantButLazy: He's a capable strategist and an equally capable fighter, but is ''extremely'' lazy and prefers to let others do his dirty work.
* BulletHell: What his FinalBoss fight is in a nutshell. Quite literally considering the first half of the fight takes place in the Underworld.
* TheCaligula: He's the ruler of the Underworld who sees causing destruction as a good time. Not the picture of mental health one would expect in a ruler.
* CannibalismSuperpower: Can devour souls to increase his strength or for healing purposes. Though doing so disrupts the celestial balance of the world.
* CardCarryingVillain: Depending on how he wants to annoy people that day, he'll openly brag about how destructive he is for the sake of getting a rise out of people. In Chapter 15, he mockingly refers to Pit and Palutena as "do-gooders."
* CasanovaWannabe: Whenever he flirts with goddesses [[FoeYay (or Pit)]], they usually feel disgusted.
* CastingAShadow: Primarily attacks with blasts of dark energy.
* TheChessmaster: Manipulates the Wish Seed plot to turn the humans against each other so he can harvest their souls.
* ClassicVillain: Representing greed, sloth, pride, and wrath.
* ControlFreak: Has shades of it. As the ruler of the Underworld, Hades expects things to ''always'' go his way. When something happens that threatens to take away that control like, say, subordinates questioning or rebelling against him, it's one of the few moments when Hades will react with genuine rage and extreme violence.
* CurbStompBattle: His first fight with Pit has him destroying the Three Sacred Treasures and mopping the floor with Pit.
* DarkIsEvil: Has more in common with traditional depictions of Satan then the Greek Hades.
* DeadpanSnarker: No matter what the situation, Hades always has a wisecrack ready.
* DiabolicalMastermind: Orchestrated the entire plot of the game.
* DivingKick: At the end of the first phase of the final battle, he performs one in a last-ditch attempt to destroy the Great Sacred Treasure, but Pit teleports away in time.
* EldritchLocation: His stomach is revealed to be an alternate dimension according to its idol description.
* EnemyMine: He teams up with Palutena and Viridi to take down the Aurum. Of course, this is only because he wants to plunder Earth for himself.
* EnergyBall: Has several variations. Some that fire trick shots if fired on, others that fire if Pit does nothing.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: He claims that the Chaos Kin "is too much of a handful even for him."
* EverybodyHatesHades: And he gives them plenty of reason to.
* EvilBrit: Speaks with a British accent.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: He claims that he sees no difference between reincarnation and devouring souls despite the fact that the latter action disrupts the balance. Though knowing him, he probably said that to mess with Pit.
* EvilIsBigger: Like Medusa, he's kaiju-sized while most of the other gods are roughly human-sized.
* EvilIsHammy: He's essentially an evil Tim Curry with godly powers.
* EvilIsPetty: Despite Hades having much higher goals and ambitions, he just cannot resist opportunities to rub salt in his enemies's wounds, or just mess with them for a good laugh at their expense. Despite working with the heroes to stop the Aurum, Hades still summons Mimicuties to impede his progress just to screw with him. And later, in Ch. 19, Hades sends Underworld troops to retrieve the Lightning Chariot just to get in Pit's way.
-->'''Palutena''': You'd think the lord of the Underworld would be too busy for mischief making.\\
'''Hades''': Oh, ''no.'' Making mischief is one of my principal responsibilities.
* EvilSoundsDeep: Thanks to Scott Bullock.
* ExtremeOmnivore: Good God, to say nothing of him devouring Pit. When the angel questions how he could punch through his stomach, Hades' response is to devour an assortment of Underworld enemies for him to deal with.
* EyeBeams: Has several. The most powerful of them is one fired from the third eye on his forehead.
* FacialMarkings: He has red streaks going across his face, which gives off the vibe of a mask.
* FangsAreEvil: Has small fangs in his normal form. Subverted when he grows a new head, which lacks fangs.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Hades carries an air of good showmanship most of the time, presenting himself as an affable, though eccentric gentlemen, though he's prone to making backhanded compliments and snide remarks most of the time. He even teams up with the heroes to defeat the Aurum, [[PragmaticVillainy though for his own reasons]]. Underneath it all, however, Hades is a total psychopath and when he [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness lets the mask slip]], he's outright terrifying. Despite that however, he does have enough respect to [[GracefulLoser congratulate Pit after he defeats him for good.]] This is even lampshaded by his trophy descriptions in ''Smash 4''.
-->'''NA''': The true ruler of the Underworld, he is so powerful that he easily resurrected Medusa for his own amusement—and to distract his foes. Full of arrogance, he does have a genuine sense of humor, though it mainly serves to conceal his callous disregard for life.
-->'''PAL''': The true ruler of the Underworld Army. He resurrected Medusa, then sat back to watch the chaos unfold. His power and skill surpass those of all other gods, yet he seems very nonchalant. Once you get past his jokey exterior, though, it's clear how cruel and twisted he really is.
* FinalBoss: As often as other issues get in the way, he and Pit finally get to duke it out in the final chapter of the game.
* FlamingHair: His green-and-red hair flows in such a manner that it evokes imagery of fire, fittingly enough. And in his final form during the final battle, his entire head becomes coated in an otherworldly neon-blue fire.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: There are several hints in the beginning chapters that Hades is the true BigBad of the game.
** In Ch 6, Both Pit and Palutena note that despite the Mirror of Truth being destroyed, the Underworld Army is still getting new monsters. Later it's revealed that Hades uses the souls of fallen humans to create his monsters.
** In Ch 7, When Palutena asks Thanatos why he doesn't outrank Medusa as he's the God of Death, Thanatos makes weird Indian noises to dodge the question, implying that he knows Medusa is Hades's pawn, but didn't want to reveal it.
** In Ch 9, Medusa herself admits that she had no idea how she came back to life and that her memories are fuzzy at best. Palutena also notes that Medusa is weaker than she normally is. Then Hades reveals himself at the end of the chapter.
* ForTheEvulz: He himself admits that committing acts of evil is his idea of a good time.
* FrickinLaserBeams: During the final phase of the fight.
* GiantSpaceFleaFromNowhere: He literally shows up out of nowhere, the only foreshadowing to someone being behind Medusa being that she herself didn't know how she came back from the dead, only revealed when you fight her. He then pops up during the credits and tears off the credit screen before revealing he brought her back. Unlike most other examples, he kinda works since he's less than half way through the game.
* GoodColorsEvilColors: Purple, red, black, and green? This guy ''screams'' evil.
* GracefulLoser: Takes his defeat well even without considering his secret message.
* GreaterScopeVillain: Revealed to be the one orchestrated the first game's events, and brought Medusa back to life.
* GodOfEvil: The God of the Underworld and the most malevolent villain in the game.
* HalfTheManHeUsedToBe: During the final battle. It doesn't last very long.
* HealingFactor: He manages to regenerate the entire lower half of his body after Pit slices him in half with the Great Sacred Treasure, as well as his head after Medusa punches it off.
* HopelessBossFight: His first fight with Pit, which you could go intto with or without the Sacred Treasures.
* {{Hypocrite}}: He claims that humans are predictable due to their greed, yet it is his greed that causes all the suffering that happens in the game.
* IAmNotLeftHanded: His entire first fight with Pit (especially shown if you go in with the Three Sacred Treasures) has him taking [[NoSell zero damage]] from said weapons and he then damages said ancient weapons to where they become unusable for the rest of the chapter (and for the remaining chapters past that point) forcing Pit to use the weapon he originally had equipped. The only major blow that Pit deals most likely agitated Hades instead of actually hurting him. Taken further in his final fight against Pit who is now using the Great Sacred Treasure, Hades true potential wasn't even achieved since he wasn't able to 'destroy the human settlements and consume their souls' to make himself stronger, literally meaning that Pit wasn't facing Hades at his [[OhCrap actual peak performance]].
* InsaneTrollLogic: As is fitting his trolling personality. He manages to take Pit's understandable horror at the idea of being defecated out of the WombLevel and somehow warp it into meaning that Pit ''hates life''.
* ItsAllAboutMe: It's all about getting things his way no matter who has to suffer in the process. Best shown by this statement during his introduction:
--> '''Hades''': But she's old news, and old news bores me. We must look to the future and that future is ''me!'' The ''true'' leader of the Underworld! Next to me, little miss Medusa's going to look like a sweet, cuddly bunny!
* {{Jerkass}}: Let's just get it out there: Even at his "[[FauxAffablyEvil nicest]]", he's still a total asshole.
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: Teams up with the heroes to stop the Aurum solely because he wants to be the only one to plunder the Earth.
* TheJuggernaut: Blowing up his heart? Cutting him in half? Decapitating him? He [[NoSell no sells]] it all and trucks on. Only the complete destruction of his entire physical being will put him down. And even then, as TheStinger shows, it probably inconvenienced him at worst.
* KickTheDog: He keeps trying to get Pit killed even when he's siding with him during the Aurum invasion.
* KillAllHumans: He uses their souls to produce more monsters and to do whatever else he wants with them.
* KnightOfCerebus: Only when he or his projection is on-screen. When he's off-screen making much of the banter between Pit and the other gods, he is mostly comedic, but when he's on-screen, the atmosphere gets much more serious. Played straight in the Japanese version, where he's more or less a straightforward villain with no hint of comedy.
* LackOfEmpathy: He starts a war and has no remorse for killing millions of people, sees souls as nothing more than tools to be manipulated or empowering nourishment, and also laughs at Pit for being stuck in the ring. Summed up quite well in this exchange between himself and Viridi in chapter 22:
-->'''Viridi''': Your disregard for life is just ''astounding''. Could you ''be'' any more callous?\\
'''Hades''': Well, I could ''try''.
* LargeAndInCharge: Rivals Medusa as the largest boss in the game.
* LargeHam: Hades has a tendency to be loud and hammy when he's talking.
* LaughablyEvil: He's a madman, but one can't help but find him funny simply because he's a massive troll of a god.
* {{Leitmotif}}: A three-note [[OminousLatinChanting ominous chant]] heard [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tMqUYXe6VI here]]. It gets remixed in the final battle.
* LightningBruiser: As demonstrated in the final battle, he's surprisingly athletic for his size, able to keep up with the Great Sacred Treasure just by sprinting. He can fly at incredible speeds and is strong enough to punch through the ground (getting his arm stuck in the process).
--> '''Viridi''': It's kinda like watching an elephant sprint.
* TheManBehindTheMan: In ''Uprising''. (Not the entire series. As far as we know, anyways.)
* ManipulativeBastard: He spreads a rumor about the Wish Seed to get humans to go to war and kill each other so he can take their souls. He manipulates Pit in order to kill the Phoenix in order to get the humans to kill each other even more.
* MoreDakka: '''Whoa nelly'''. He is ''literally'' a walking BulletHell. He has EyeBeams, [[WaveMotionGun huge lasers]] that he can fire from his forehead and each of his palms, thrown DeflectorShields that [[RecursiveAmmo shoot out their own fireballs]], trick bullets that fly straight into you if you shoot them by mistake, more trick bullets that fly back to hit you if you ''don't'' shoot them down... and to top it all off, his [[PoweredArmor Devastation Ensemble]] allows him to ''grow'' all kinds of turrets out of just about any part of his clothing. FinalBoss indeed.
* TheNicknamer: as "Pitty-Pat" and "Pretty Palutena" can attest to
* NighInvulnerable: Having his heart destroyed just irritates him, getting ''cut in half'' doesn't bother him, getting ''DECAPITATED'' barely slows him down, and even when Pit vaporizes him with the Great Sacred Treasure's Final Strike, TheStinger shows that he's ''still alive'' in some capacity. Put simply, Hades. Just. Won't. ''Die''.
* NotMeThisTime: Pulls this twice, first bringing up that the Aurum aren't his doing, and later states that the Chaos Kin doesn't work for him, and there's nothing seen to contradict his claim.
* NotQuiteDead: His voice starts talking in TheStinger. He himself concedes that he probably can never come back to life, but is still able to talk to the player as a disembodied voice at least.
* NotSoFastBucko: In chapter 9, while Pit and Palutena are celebrating Medusa's defeat, Hades cuts in at that moment, declaring, "Now, wait just a second."
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: Despite his [[EvilIsHammy flair for the dramatic]] and [[{{Troll}} trollish personality]], he is a [[TheChessmaster very competent schemer]] and [[TopGod one of the most powerful characters in the game]], second only to [[AllPowerfulBystander Dyntos]]. Literally, the '''''only''''' reason he lost was due to Medusa's intervention.
* ObviouslyEvil: Just look at him.
* OffWithHisHead: Medusa punches his head clean off, not that it slows him down as he's still got another.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Hades is always evil and scary, but there are very few times he drops the levity of his hammy speech and constant jokes in favor of just being 100% dead serious, angry, and violent. First when Dark Pit threatens his dominion over the Underworld (enough so for Hades to smash a pillar in rage), and again during and after Medusa's defiance in the final battle. He also reacted with understandable anger when Dark Pit [[ChestBurster tore out of his insides on the Lightning Chariot]], though even then he goofily chose to express his anger as "That wasn't very NICE!!". He also gets over it rather quickly.
* OrcusOnHisThrone: He is VERY lazy, and the only time he gets up and does anything himself is when Pit comes to fight him.
* OverarchingVillain: He's the overriding BigBad of ''Uprising'', being behind the general conflict of the whole game and the one that Pit and Palutena ultimately aim to stop but Hades himself only acts as a direct threat for Chapters 10 and 22-25, [[DiscOneFinalBoss Medusa]] antagonizing Pit for Chapters 1-9 and a host of {{Arc Villain}}s filling Chapters 11-21.
* PerpetualSmiler: He usually has a cross of a SlasherSmile and a {{troll}}-face-style smile on his face. [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness The minute he stops smiling is the minute things are about to get very bloody.]]
* PersonOfMassDestruction: When wearing his Devastation Ensemble which allows him to spawn weapons from any part of his body. If he were to go all out, there wouldn't be much of a world left to save. His AR Card even describes him as a literal weapon of mass destruction.
* PhysicalGod: Of the Underworld.
* PowerEchoes: Whenever he speaks, it has this effect to his voice.
* PoweredArmor: His "Devastation Ensemble" is an odd example of this, being just a covering of light over parts of his regular outfit, but allowing him to spawn any and all manner of weaponry out of that light. He loses it after Pit bifurcates him with the Great Sacred Treasure.
* PowerFist: Does not use one, but the End-All Arm seems to be patterned after him.
* PowerOfTheVoid: During the third round of the fight, Hades creates vortexes on his hands to draw Pit in and hold him in place to fire more shots at him. The vortexes can be destroyed by Pit's own shots.
* PragmaticVillainy: He sides with Palutena and Viridi during the Aurum arc only because he wants to be the one to destroy humanity.
* {{Pride}}: As hinted toward by his out-of-character moments, it seems that his only BerserkButton is the questioning of his power and control. Combine this with his motivation being the desire to ''play around with souls'', and it indicates quite a power and control lust.
* PunchCatch: Pulls one off against Medusa after her VillainousRescue, which he follows up by ripping her arm clean off and finishing her off with a powerful uppercut.
* PurpleIsPowerful: Hades's skin color is predominantly purple, and he is indeed very powerful (as you should expect from someone with the title 'Lord of the Underworld.')
* RapidFireFisticuffs: In his first fight with Pit.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: And his character portraits show that they glow red when he loses his temper.
* SevenDeadlySins: While greed, sloth, pride, and wrath are his biggest vices, Hades, in a way, represents ''all'' of them. He has a greed and gluttony for souls, has a lust for power and control, is incredibly slothful and prefers to let others do his dirty work, is extremely arrogant and vain, and reacts with extreme wrath when threatened.
* SlasherSmile: His default expression.
* SlouchOfVillainy: His defaut pose when he's not doing a BadassArmfold.
* TheSociopath: Incredibly manipulative with tons of charisma, but has no empathy for anything but himself. To him, everything else is either a controllable pawn or a toy he can play with until it breaks, and he won't let anything that can't be controlled exist.
* SoulPower: He can use souls for a variety of purposes such as regnerating lost limbs or reviving fallen allies. A major plot point is that the Underworld Monsters are created from the souls of fallen humans and multiple souls are needed to create one monster.
* SpikesOfVillainy: When wearing his Deavastation Ensemble, he has three giant spikes protruding from his right shoulder.
* StepfordSmiler: Type C. Wears an ever-present smile, but is a total psychopath.
* TheStinger: If you wait five minutes after the credits, you get treated to Hades's disembodied voice shattering whatever remains of the fourth wall.
* SuperStrength: Able to rip Medusa's arm clean off and kill her in a single uppercut.
* TermsOfEndangerment: Pitty Pat for Pit. Pretty, Professor, or Know-it-all Palutena for Palutena. Pitooey for Dark Pit. Lovely Little Phosphora for Phosphora. Big Bad or Little Miss Medusa for Medusa. He's a fountain of these.
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: His attitude towards the earth during the Aurum invasion. The earth his his to destroy and no one else's.
-->'''Hades:''' But whatever they are, they must be stopped. Earth is ''my'' flower to plunder, not ''theirs!''
* ThirdEye: Has one that he opens up to fire his WaveMotionGun.
* ThisIsADrill: He just pops a drill out of his body in his attempt to destroy the Great Sacred Treasure.
* TokenEvilTeammate: During the Aurum arc.
* TopGod: He leads all of the gods of the underworld in ''Uprising'', including Medusa, Thanatos, and Pandora.
* {{Troll}}: Oh my good bloody Lord... He even gives ''Palutena'' a run for her money by having an almost permanent Troll Face!
* VacuumMouth: Used to swallow Pit whole in Chapter 23.
* VileVillainSaccharineShow: While the game is more Crapsaccharine than Saccharine due to the setting and nature of the game, it still is quite lighthearted. Hades on the other hand, is the GodOfEvil who seeks to destroy humanity to harvest their souls for his own greed. LaughablyEvil moments aside, Hades is one of the more darker villains of the game. Gets even worse in the Japanese version where he's mostly a straightforward villain with no element of comedy.
* VillainHasAPoint: His statement to Pit about "what is the difference between reincarnating souls and removing souls from existence?" does make sense in retrospect. Pit is left almost speechless.
* VillainousBreakdown: During his final battle with Pit. It's subtle, but it's there. At the beginning of the battle, he's his usual self. But as the fight wears on and Pit powers through everything he throws at him, his normally calm and smug demeanor starts to erode, which all comes to a head when Medusa attacks him, where he pretty much snaps and drops the [[FauxAffablyEvil polite facade]] altogether. However, by TheStinger, he's mostly back to his old self and even congratulates Pit on his victory.
* WalkingSpoiler: To such an extent that literally every single entry on the page was whited-out before advanced warning was given. In spite of being the villain for 64% of the game, nothing in promotional material prior to the game's release or even prior to his debut in the game itself indicated he even existed!
* WaveMotionGun: His strongest attack during the final battle is a powerful laser he fires from a ThirdEye on his forehead. It causes a NonStandardGameOver if Pit fails to fill the gauge before he fires.
* WolverineClaws: One of his attacks in his first fight with Pit has him swiping his claws at Pit.
* WombLevel: Level 23 is his digestive tract, which [[AllThereInTheManual according to the Idol description is apparently an alternate dimension.]]
* WorthyOpponent: Appears to acknowledge Pit as one if TheStinger is any indication.
* WouldHitAGirl: Medusa learns this the hard way.
* XanatosGambit: If Pit kills the Phoenix, then Hades can start his war. If Pit spares the Phoenix, then the Phoenix will attack humanity. And from then on it doesn't matter who kills humans, whether it be his own forces, Viridi's forces, or even Palutena's forces when she's possessed by the Chaos Kin. Either way, he gets what he wants: souls.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: Said almost verbatim to Medusa as he kills her.
* YourSoulIsMine: His [[JustForPun soul]] motivation. The only purpose he has for starting a war and sending the Underworld Army to massacre everyone is to amass a large collection of souls. (That, and according to Hades they taste delicious.)

A devil dog with two heads. Its body is wrapped in fire and spits out bullets of magma energy.

* AttackAttackAttack: His strategy in the original ''Kid Icarus'' is to fire projectiles and advance (and occasionally jump). With enough Centurions, Pit can theoretically take him out before he reaches the other side of the room.
* BreathWeapon: Can breath fire.
* BullfightBoss: In ''Uprising'', if Pit manages to dodge his ChargeAttack, Twinbellows will hit the wall and be stunned long enough for Pit to attack him.
* ChargeAttack: Twinbellows will attempt to ram Pit. On higher difficultes, it will spam this move repeatedly.
* {{Expy}}: Of Cerberus from classical Greek Mythology as both are Hellhounds with multiple heads who serve as the guardian of the Underworld. Likely also of Orthrus, the two-headed brother of Cerberus.
* {{Fireballs}}: Spits out fireballs.
* FlamingHair: His fur seems to be composed of fire.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: Has green glowing eyes.
* {{Hellhound}}: He's the Guardian of the Underworld.
* MeaningfulName: He has '''Twin''' heads and '''Bellows''' out fire.
* MultipleHeadCase: Has two heads. Hence the name.
* PlayingWithFire: His attacks in both the original and ''Uprising''.

-->Hewdraw (Blue Head): ''"Hello there!"''
-->Hewdraw (Purple Head): ''"It's snack time!"''
-->Hewdraw (Violet Head): ''"Mm! What a tender little morsel!"''

Its body is like a smooth snake. Originally it comprised of one head and came out of water, but now it has two more heads and takes to the sky.

* AffablyEvil: They're a kind bunch of dragons. One in particular (the violet middle head) is very polite to Pit, even when he's trying to eat him. There's also one of the possible death quotes at the end of chapter 3:
-->'''Hewdraw''': Look how far you've come, Pit. I'm proud of you. (dies)\\
'''Pit''': [[LampshadeHanging Huh. You don't usually meet such nice bosses.]]
* BreathWeapon: From fireballs to laser beams.
* TheBrute: Serves as this for the Underworld Army.
* CarryABigStick: Does not use one, but the Hewdraw Club is patterned after him.
* DumbMuscle: Particularly the blue head.
* EvilBrit: The violet head has a distinct British accent.
* {{Expy}}: Of the Hydra from Greek Mythology, being serpentine monsters with multiple heads an incredible regenerative powers. However, their regenerative powers are somewhat inverted. While Hydra can regrow its heads if they are cut off, Hewdraw's heads are capable of acting independently if severed and can regrow new bodies instantly.
* {{Flight}}: Somehow is able to fly despite not having any visible wings.
-->'''Pit''': He can fly?
-->'''Palutena''': [[{{Troll}} I think the only one who can't fly by himself is you.]]
* GiantFlyer: Larger than Pit, but can still keep themselves aloft.
* GracefulLoser: When defeated, the purple Hewdraw head compliments Pit and tells him how proud he is.
* HealingFactor: They can regrow a new torso in mere minutes.
* ICannotSelfTerminate: One of the heads says he wants someone to put him out of his misery when the three are bickering amongst each other.
* LaughablyEvil: Can be a riot due to their bickering. Even when separate, they provide some hilarious lines.
* MultipleEndings: Determined by the order you defeat the heads in ''Uprising''. The blue Hewdraw will scream that he's too pretty to die. The purple Hewdraw will compliment Pit before dying. And the red Hewdraw will attempt to say something, but will explode before he can.
* MultipleHeadCase: Has three heads that have their own distinct personality, causing them to constantly bicker and argue with each other. Their bickering can get so bad that their sentences become impossible to process as they talk over each other.
* OurDragonsAreDifferent: A three-headed, talking dragon whose heads can act independently of the main body and each have their own distinct personality.
* SoProudOfYou: The "nice" head says this after Pit beats him.
* TacticalSuicideBoss: Hewdraw Reborn would be a lot harder to fight against if he didn't keep spawning fireballs you can shoot to get him out of the water.
* TailSlap: Hewdraw Reborn can swipe its tail at Pit.
* TalkingAnimal: A talking dragon.
* WhoNeedsTheirWholeBody: Hewdraw's heads are capable of surviving on their own if they are decapitated.
* {{Yandere}}: The purple Hewdraw when under the influence of Palutena's monster pheromones.

--> ''"The extra H is for Hamazing!"''

The God of Death. He's a bit on the crazy side.

* AffablyEvil: Really, working for the Underworld Army is the only thing that makes him evil. He's actually quite nice and personable, if not eccentric.
* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: Has dark green skin.
* AntagonistTitle: ''Thanatos Rising''.
* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking: As the God of Death, he gets perks like evil powers, health insurance... and free soda.
* AscendedExtra: In the original game, he was just a snake that lived in Medusa's hair. Uprising reveals that he's the god of death, and a shapeshifter.
* BattleAura: In Chapter 14, he takes on Phosphora in the form of a "glow dragon"; unlike his other forms, it's a dragon-shaped aura that he uses to defend and attack rather than a complete transformation. Thanatos's true form is clearly visible in the dragon's head.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Though hammy and comedic, he's far from harmless. Case in point in ''Thanatos Rising'' where he effortlessly defeats a human army and takes control of one of their Trojan Horse Tanks, and almost manages to defeat Pit soon after.
* BigBad: Of the ''Thanatos Rising'' anime short.
* BrilliantButLazy: He is a very effective fighter, and is Medusa's second-in-command, but his lazy and rather carefree nature gets in the way of his job (i.e. sending Reaper subordinates while relaxing in the Sea-floor Palace.)
* BunnyEarsLawyer: He's utterly wacky, yet he's ''somehow'' Medusa's second-in-command. Pit and Palutena even Lampshade it.
-->'''Pit''': How did ''this'' guy get to be Medusa's second-in-command?
-->'''Palutena''': Beats me. Seniority?
* ButtMonkey: To put it simply, even ''Pit'' shows no respect for him.
* {{Camp}}: Possibly the campiest villain in the whole show.
* CloudCuckoolander: Let's just get it out there: Thanatos is ''nuts''.
* ConfusionFu: His shapeshifting powers combined with his wackiness makes him very unpredictable in battle.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: A complete and utter wackjob, but he's far from harmless. In Ch 14, he was able to hold his own against Phosphora and though he lost, was able to weaken her enough for Pit to fight her. And in ''Thanatos Rising'', he shows just how dangerous he can be when he pus his mind to it.
* CuteLittleFangs: Has one on the right side of his mouth, but it's barely noticable.
* DeathIsCheap: As the god of death, he gets special privileges.
* TheDragon: He's Medusa's second in command and Hades' after he reveals himself. He even transforms into a literal dragon while fighting Phosphora.
* EvilVersusEvil: Reappears in Chapter 14 to battle Phosphora only to be defeated. Though how evil Phosphora is is debatable.
* FamousLastWords: Parodied when he dies a second time, at the hands of Phosphora:
--> "Farewell cryyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!"
* FauxAffablyEvil: Portrayed as this in ''Thanatos Rising''. His politeness is a little less sincere and his jokes are more sardonic and a bit sadistic.
* ForTheEvulz: In ''Thanatos Rising'', he tries to destroy a human city for no other reason than pure amusement. Granted, he could have been harvesting souls for the Underworld, but he seemed to take a little too much enjoyment out of it.
* GagLips: Has big, blue lips to go with his overall clown motif.
* HighSpeedBattle: Against Phosphora. He loses, but weakens her enough for Pit to fight her.
* LargeHam: Lampshaded. According to Thanatos, the extra H in his name (previously Tanatos) stands for "Hamazing".
* LargeAndInCharge: Not to the extend of Medusa or Hades, but he stands at an [[http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/kidicarus/images/f/fa/Kiuheight.png an impressive 330cm]], or 10'10".
* LaughablyEvil: His childish personality makes him quite entertaining.
* MadeOfIron: Notably in that he takes quite a large amount of punishment in his appearances as an enemy whether his opponent is Pit or Phosphora. Against Pit, Thanatos fights the strongest fighter that Palutena has and continues fighting by alternating between different forms despite the continuous damage he sustains without slowing down. He then takes this even further when he fights Phosphora in Chapter 14 where his opponent is ''much'' faster than him and possibly just as powerful despite the the fact that he's a god and she isn't. To make up for a lack of speed to match, he appears to be absurdly durable as his fight against Phosphora lasts for nearly 80% of the entire air battle at the least and he just [[{{Determinator}} doesn't give up]]. Pit even comments that Thanatos is much faster than ever before and as it shows, the God of Death is able to keep pace with his opponent. In the end, the entire fight arguably worked out for Hades (being able to weaken the Forces of Nature by defeating their commander) since Thanatos can be revived by Hades, Phosphora is now at quite a disadvantage being heavily weakened since she has to retreat to recover. To put it forward, Thanatos fought Phosphora in an [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown intense match]] where they both fought with everything they had and he was just about the only counter that Phosphora possibly had at that point and managed to inflict enough damage to make the Forces of Nature weak enough to be defeated. Pit would later fight Phosphora when she was still critically weakened and not even at her best and win due to that factor although Phosphora knew that she wouldn't have the best time.
* MadHatter: Has definite shades of this. He even [[Disney/AliceInWonderland sounds like Disney's version of him.]]
* MonsterClown: His appearance in ''Uprising'' invokes this.
* MorphicResonance: His forms has his green coloring and scarfs from his normal form.
* ObviouslyEvil: What, were you expecting the God of Death to look nice?
* PoisonousPerson: His attacks in his normal form can inflict poison status.
* PowerFloats: He's never seen walking.
* PsychopathicManchild: He's ''very'' childish, easily offended, and overly sensitive, and when things don't go his way, he [[RageQuit throws tantrums.]]
* RageQuit: invokes this trope in ''Thanatos Rising''.
* ScaledUp: During his fight against the Forces of Nature, he took the form of a [[PowerGlows Glow Dragon.]]
* ScarfOfAsskicking: Wears a large scarf.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: He changed his name from Tanatos to Thanatos, because the extra H is, well, you already know by now.
* SimpleStaff: Does not use one, but the Thanatos staff is patterned after him.
* TacticalSuicideBoss: Thanatos would be unstoppable in his urn form if he didn't spit out skulls for Pit to knock back at him.
* TopHeavyGuy: His torso is larger than his legs. That's probably why he floats around.
* VillainBall: In ''Thanatos Rising'', instead of killing Pit when he had him trapped, he decides to toy with him by throwing bombs at him. Pit beats him by shooting at the cogs, bringing the Trojan Horse Tank down on his head.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: His main superpower and the reason why he was able to turn himself into a snake in the first game. During his battle in ''Uprising'', he transforms into: [[GiantFootOfStomping a giant foot]], [[BatOutOfHell a bat that can split into swarms of smaller bats]], [[MatryoshkaObject a matryoshka doll]], [[TalkingWeapon a sword and spears]], and a [[TennisBoss jar]].
* WalkingShirtlessScene: Seems to be wearing overalls.
* WhyDontYaJustShootHim: What ultimately leads to his defeat in ''Thanatos Rising.''
* TheWorfEffect: When Hades revives him to fight against the Forces of Nature, Thanatos is defeated by Phosphora. He does, however, weaken Phosphora significantly.

-->''"Do I look like a strategy guide? In case you haven't noticed...THIS ISN'T THE ASK AUNTIE PANDORA HOUR."''

The Goddess of Deceit. She likes to confuse whoever tries to enter her realm. She is allied with Medusa.

* AndIMustScream: If the dialogue in Ch. 22 is any indication, she was trapped in Dark Pit's wings for three years and ''fully aware the entire time'', though she seems more concerned that Dark Pit took her powers than she was about being trapped in his wings.
* ArchEnemy: Found one in Dark Pit.
* AscendedExtra: Was the [[HardLevelsEasyBosses easiest Boss]] (and boss of the next-to-last level) in the original ''Kid Icarus''. Now plays a far bigger role in ''Uprising''.
* BadassFingerSnap: The way she activates some of her spells as Amazon Pandora.
* BatmanGambit: Lured Pit to her Labrynth of Deceit to use him to create Dark Pit. Too bad her plan blew up in her face when Dark Pit rebels against her.
* BishonenLine: In ''Uprising'', she eventually assumes a humanoid form called Amazon Pandora.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Like Thanatos, she's very eccentric and a very capable fighter.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: In ''Uprising'', her eccentric behavior is what makes her level so [[MindScrew confusing.]]
* CoolSword: As Amazon Pandora, she wields a blue longsword.
* CuteBruiser: As Amazon Pandora, she's definitely easy on the eyes. But she's more than just a pretty face.
%%* DarkActionGirl: Especially as Amazon Pandora.
%%* DeadpanSnarker: ''Constantly''. She's on par with Viridi here.
* TheDisembodied: Amazon Pandora's idol states that she was one of the Underworld's greatest warriors, but had an accident that cost her her body, forcing Pandora to take the form of a pure manifestation of her will.
%%* FangsAreEvil: In spirit form.
* FauxAffablyEvil: She seems jaded and sarcastic at first glance, brushing aside things with a nonchalant attitude. But as her idol says, it's all an act and she revels in trickery and deception.
* TheFightingNarcissist: As Amazon Pandora. One of the first things she does after regaining her original form is to show off her new body. Doesn't stop her from fighting Dark Pit though.
* FloatingMask: Her original design was reminiscent of a sentient mask.
* GreatGazoo: She isn't called the Goddess of Deceit for nothing.
* GodOfEvil: The Goddess of Calamity and Disasters.
* HeartBeatDown: Can fire heart-shaped projectiles and create heart-shaped barriers as Amazon Pandora.
* HotGoddess: Not that one would expect looking at her spirit form, but as Amazon Pandora, she's a really beautiful and sexy young woman.
* ISurrenderSuckers: Pulls this in both her fights.
** In her fight with Pit, after taking damage, she seemingly surrenders and allows Pit to destroy the Mirror of Truth. In reality, it was a BatmanGambit to create Dark Pit. Sadly for her, her plan quickly falls apart when Dark Pit turns on her.
** During her fight with Dark Pit, after taking damage, she falls to the ground. However it's a trick as after a few seconds, she'll get to her feet and fire off heart-shaped energy blasts.
-->'''Pandora:''' You got me... ...Just kidding!
%%* LaughablyEvil:
* MadBomber: Can materialize bombs during her fights.
* MagicKnight: As Amazon Pandora. She fights with a sword and various deceptive magic.
* MasterSwordsman: As Amazon Pandora, she is quite skilled with a sword.
%%* MsFanservice: As Amazon Pandora.
* NightmareFace: In her spirit form, her eyes and mouth are huge and somewhat demonic-looking. Quite a fair cry from her cute and pretty face as Amazon Pandora.
* PlayingWithFire: In her spirit form, she attacks by spitting out fireballs.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: As Amazon Pandora, Her eyes go from purple to red.
* RecurringBoss: You fight with her twice in ''Uprising'' with Pit and one more time as Dark Pit in both forms.
* SanityStrengthening: Discussed by her at the start of Chapter 5's ground section, where she claims she is now trying to have a more balanced mentality. Her idol states that while she sounds jaded, it's just an act.
* ShowingOffTheNewBody: The first thing she says when she transforms into [[HotGod Amazon Pandora? "Eat your hearts out."]]
* StrawNihilist: Implied by this comment:
-->'''Pandora''': What's the point of getting worked up? What's the point of ''anything'', really?
* SwordBeam: As Amazon Pandora, she can fire five of these from her sword.
* TechnicolorFire: She seems to be made of blue fire in her redesign. But it turns into red fire when she's angry.
* TurnsRed: Literally. When angered, her spirit form goes from blue to red.
* TheTrickster: Her idol says that she loves trickery.
* WolverineClaws: Does not use any, but the Pandora claws are patterned after her.

[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_1rsz_gaol_updatedart_4505.png]]

-->"Ah, Palutena's little messenger boy. And Magnus, it's always a pleasure!"

A warlord who is aligned with Medusa. In the past, she was a childhood friend of Magnus, and the two fought monsters together as part of the same mercenary group.

* AllThereInTheManual: According to her Idol, she volunteered to spy on the Underworld Army, but was captured and forced to wear the cursed armor of a dark lord, making her into nothing more than a slave to the very evil she had fought against.
** But then it seems she has gained complete control over the cursed armor when you fight her and Magnus, complete with a total removal of the distorted, evil voice. It appears that Pit and Magnus quite literally [[BeatTheCurseOutOfHim beat the curse out of her or that Dyntos just made her a new set.]]
* BarrierWarrior: Uses a barrier that will reflect ranged attacks.
* CastingAShadow: Attacks with various blasts of dark energy.
* CoolSword: The Gaol blade is modeled after her.
* DemonicPossession: The dark lord's armor took control over her after the Underworld Army forced her to wear it.
* DualBoss: With Magnus late-game.
* DubNameChange: From "Gainas" in the Japanese version.
%%* EvilSorcerer
* {{Expy}}: Guts and Griffith had a similar affair to Magnus and Gaol's in {{Berserk}}. Magnus has a similar personality, looks, occupation, fighting style and weapon to Guts so the comparison between Gaol and Griffith AKA Femto is a pretty easy one. To play on the players' expectations, Gaol is quite different to Griffith and more closely resembles Casca.
* FrickinLaserBeams: The dark lord can do a sweeping laser attack.
* GetBackHereBoss: Is quite difficult to pin down as Gaol constantly moves around the room.
* GreenEyes: When wearing the armor. It's unknown if she actually has green eyes as her eyes are closed when she's revealed to be human.
* HornedHumanoid: When wearing the armor.
* LightningBruiser: Is quite fast, despite the heavy armor, and is strong enough to send Magnus and Pit flying with a spin of the cape.
* MeaningfulName: Her name is another word for "Prison" and an alternate spelling of the word "Jail", hinting at her being imprisoned in the armor. It also spells gal if you take out the o.
* {{Parody}}: WordOfGod states that she (while possessed by the armor) is a parody of RPG final bosses.
* SamusIsAGirl: Her real face even looks like Samus's! It's even more fitting considering she's inside a set of armor. Interestingly, in-universe, Pit seems to only be surprised that she was human.
%%* SpikesOfVillainy
%%* TinTyrant
* TokenHuman: Out of the Underworld Army.
* UseYourHead: An effective tactic when you have a helmet with horns on it.
* VoiceOfTheLegion: Has this when first seen. Subverted by her second appearance as it was a voice syntheiser to disguise that she was a woman. Her voice is more feminine, but still slightly distorted.

* AttackItsWeakPoint: His head and toes, and more obviously, the crack in his skull during the last leg of the fight.
* DubNameChange: From the considerably less threatening "''Big'' Reaper" in the Japanese version.
* EyeBeams: Can fire these at Pit.
* FlunkyBoss: He does summon Reapettes, but only if he lands a hit on Pit with his EyeBeams.
%%* GreenEyes
* KingMook: Essentially a far bigger, far stronger version of the normal Reaper.
* MightyGlacier: Hits like a tank, but moves as slowly as one too.
* PowerTattoo: Does not use one, but the Great Reaper Palm is patterned after him.
* ShockwaveStomp: One of its attacks.
* SicklyGreenGlow: Its eyes and its necklace.
* SinisterScythe: And it's as big as its body.
%%* SpinAttack
* VillainsOutShopping: His idol states that in his free time, he actually shinks himself to normal size to take strolls in his fortress. When he is first seen, he actually looks like a regular reaper, then grows to his giant size after noticing Pit.
* YourSoulIsMine: He was an elder Reaper that gained his power by eating a large amount of souls.

[[folder:Hades's Heart]]
An odd entity representing Hades's heart, existing within Hades.

* ArmlessBiped: Though it does seem to have two blood vessel-like tentacles, it never uses them for anything or even seems to control them at all.
* CelestialBody: Its body coloration looks like a night sky, deep blue with small white "stars". Has an UnmovingPlaid effect to it, as well.
* ChasingYourTail: the design of the stage regularly invokes this, regardless of who's attacking.
* GetBackHereBoss: When it's not directly attacking Pit, it's mindlessly speeding around its maze while sending exploding clones at him.
* CutenessProximity: Pit can't help but find it ''adorable'' during the boss battle.
* LightningBruiser: Moves surprisingly fast considering its rather stubby legs, especially when it TurnsRed.
* MadeOfExplodium: Its clones. The heart itself also explodes upon defeat
* MesACrowd: Its most potent ability is to create exploding clones of itself.
* OrganAutonomy: It's a heart that seems to act independently of Hades himself, and Pit's destroying it doesn't seem to hinder Hades much.
* TurnsRed: Goes on a rampage towards Pit each time it recieves damage.
* TheVoiceless: One of the few bosses to not speak at all.

These enemies place a spell on Pit to turn him into an eggplant.

* AscendedExtra: Was just another Underworld Enemy in the original. Due to his legendary annoying ability, he not only landed a main cast role in ''Captain N: The Game Master'' (unlike Medusa, who was only in one episode as a {{Mook}}), but also made it to the front cover ''Of Myths And Monsters.''
* BlackMagic: Laugh all you want, but being turned into an Eggplant is still considered a {{Curse}}.
%%* {{Cyclops}}
* DemotedToExtra: in ''Uprising'' he's back to being just an EliteMook, only now with his eggplant attacks considerably nerfed. He still manages to gain some commercial representation through the trailers, however.
%%* GagLips
* {{Nerf}}: His infamous spell is a bit less dangerous in ''Uprising'', as it simply wears off after a while rather than forcing Pit to frantically run to a hospital. Justified, though, as Palutena is watching over Pit and uses her powers to shorten the time Pit is an eggplant.
** But to sort of counter this loss, the spell now acts like a grenade, turning Pit into an eggplant if caught in the radius and also doubling as a sort of pseudo-Poison effect.

An underworld monster that has shrimp tempura for a head and sits in a rice bowl. He can turn his enemies into tempura with his spells as well, chasing them and, if caught, eating them.

* BizarreAlienBiology: Has a single eye on his tempura head, that is somehow replaced by a mouth when he starts chasing his victims.
%%* DeepFriedWhatever
* TheRival: To the Eggplant Wizard.
* ScaryBlackMan: His head aside, the Tempura Wizard has a brown skin-tone.
* SlouchOfVillainy: When not chasing angels-turned-tempura, he casts spells while reclining on a rice bowl.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: Subverted. It ''looks'' like he'd be one to the Eggplant Wizard, but is in fact quite a bit worse: being turned into a tempura tires you out instantly upon trying to run, and letting him catch and eat you is a OneHitKill.
* ToServeMan: In a fashion; he turns his victims into shrimp tempura before eating, and Pit isn't entirely human to begin with. That doesn't necessarily mean he hasn't done this with humans before, though.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Take a guess.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: While wearing tempura pants, naturally.

* AndIMustScream: Collins are Centurions that have been taken over by Phils, toxic worms that live inside in their bodies.
* AscendedExtra: All the monsters are represented by the Keepah enemy in the story section of the NES manual.
* BlatantLies: The Shulm enemy is described as meek, compare to its actual appearance [[http://www.tumblr.com/tagged/ar-cards?before=1334456644 here]].
* CoversAlwaysLie: The manual describes Uranos as a very powerful and dangerous enemy, drawing him as a fire breathing giant. In-game Uranos is a tiny and easily defeated dwarf with no special powers.
* {{Cyclops}}: More than half of the Underworld creatures are this.
%%* DarkIsEvil
* EldritchAbomination: Most of them, but one that stands out is the Clubberskull, which is sealed due to being so powerful.
* EveryoneHatesHades: Hades' roman name is used for an annoying BanditMook.
* EverythingsSquishierWithCephalopods: Octos obviously.
* GagNose: Specknoses, which are patterned after Groucho Marx glasses.
* GiantHandsOfDoom: Snongs are a unique case, their arms only appear when summoned.
* GoofyPrintUnderwear: When an Erinus splits into two, its lower half is wearing pink striped boxers.
* TheGoomba: The winged snakes called Shenum fill this role.
** The enemy Shulm also looks similar to a Goomba, particularly in the original NES game.
* TheHeartless: In Uprising; the underworld forces are created from souls of the dead, and tons of souls are required to create just one creature.
* HelpfulMook: For a brief while during the Aurum invasion arc, though they still attack Pit when unoccupied.
* KickChick: Having only legs to attack with, Mimicuties are this by default.
* TakenForGranite: Ingiots inflict this as a status effect.

[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_viridi_artwork_3248.png]]

-->''"Good riddance, human scum! The world's better off without you!"''

As the title implies, she's the proclaimed Goddess of Nature. Desires the obliteration of mankind for their numerous offenses against nature, and proceeds to act upon it once they impulsively start an international war over Hades' rumors about the Wish Seed.

* ACupAngst: Implied by this exchange between her and Palutena in Ch 22 after Pandora reveals her true form.
-->'''Viridi:''' ''Someone's'' overcompensating!
-->'''Palutena:''' Feeling a little... ''inadequate'', Viridi?
* AdmiringTheAbomination: A variant. She deeply cares for her Forces of Nature troops, referring to them as her children and even naming them herself. She seems to have a special love for her Bumpety Bombs, however.
* {{Adorkable}}: She has her moments.
* AffablyEvil: She's a colossal bitch most of the time, but she can get along with others sometimes. See FriendlyEnemy below.
* AllGirlsLikePonies: She sounds really enthusiastic when she mentions the unicorns on the lightning chariot.
* AMotherToHerMen: She outright refers to the Forces of Nature as her children.
* AntiVillain: [[SlidingScaleOfAntiVillains Type III]] given that she has a valid point about humans, but goes about correcting them in a [[GaiasVengeance highly]] [[NukeEm destructive]] [[MurderIsTheBestSolution manner]].
* AnythingYouCanDoICanDoBetter: In Chapter 18 , when she reveals that she can grant Pit the Power of Flight like Palutena.
-->'''Viridi:''' "Anything Palutena can do, I can do better!"
* ApocalypseHow: Attempts to invoke Species Extinction on humans through strategic use of her Reset Bombs.
* ArcVillain: For Chapters 11-14, where she overrides Hades as the current main threat for those chapters.
* AxCrazy: Has an unhealthy, near psychopathic hatred of humanity and is prone to frequently lashing out in anger.
* BigDamnHeroes: Pulls this off in Chapter 17 where she out of nowhere commands two of her Nutskis to stop Pit's fall by carrying a small-sized chunk of rock for him to land on. Pit tries to ask Viridi for her reason for doing so but she cuts him off and tells him to be ready to fight the Aurum. Her rescue in Chapter 17 is possibly [[{{Foreshadowing}} hinted at]] by her choice of words in Chapter 16 where she tells Pit that she's not here to ''help'' him but that keeping him alive is in her best interests (or view) for now. This is actually quite relevant as her actions as a result of Chapter 16 show up as trivial later on.
** Chapter 17 [[spoiler: has her save Pit as the above mentions. At this point, only Pit has the natural fighting instincts backed by being pretty smart which helps avoid situations where the 'brainless' mooks such as the Centurions, Underworld Forces and Forces of Nature main bulk would fail to even have a chance. By now, Pit is the only being present who has the best chances of winning so Viridi wasn't really lying when she was keeping Pit safe in Chapter 16.]]
** Chapters 18 (final segment) to Chapter 21 and most likely from then until the game ends. [[spoiler: Starting from Chapter 19, with Palutena now out of service due to the Chaos Kin, Viridi steps up to act as Pit's guide and provides him with the same help Palutena herself did prior to Chapter 18. The start of Chapter 19 has her sending in some of her own forces to assist Pit by having them fight the Underworld Forces that are attempting to stop Pit, with the bonus that she teleports them out of the fight should you try to hit them or if they are in your way of attacking another enemy before your hits actually strike them.
** Chapter 23. Entirely offscreen but the words that Hades tells Pit indicates that Viridi is taking a huge risk by having her forces attack Hades in a bold and daring attempt to save Pit even when Hades by himself is by far leagues stronger than her entire army. Maybe this is why said boss is a coward during the boss battle.
* BigGood: Takes the role during Chapters 18-21 due to Palutena being BrainwashedAndCrazy[=/=]TakenForGranite. The main menu even changes to match her style.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: For humans, considering that Mother Nature herself, one of the most idolized deities in mankind, is shown to have an unhealthy hatred for them all.
* BlackAndGreyMorality: Though Viridi wants to exterminate humanity, she's also against the destruction and harvesting of souls committed by the Underworld Army.
* BlackAndWhiteInsanity: With regards to humanity. She views humans as inherently evil and destructive beings who are incapable of change.
* BrattyHalfPint: Having the appearance of an eight-year-old girl, she fits this in comparison to the other gods. To put this in perspective, when she first appears on the top screen, she's "standing" behind some mountains, and having the 3D depth turned up will show her much further in the distance than most gods - in other words, she uses forced perspective to look taller than she might usually be.
* CantTakeCriticism: In Chapter 22, Dark Pit outright tells her and Palutena that they and their "stupid wars" are just as responsible for throwing the world of balance as Hades is; while Palutena actually has the guts to admit that Dark Pit [[JerkassHasAPoint isn't entirely wrong]], Viridi is just pissed that a "little nothing" like him would dare speak to her like that.
* CatchPhrase: Doesn't actually have one, but it might as well be her snide "Ugh!" considering how often she says it.
* CatSmile: When she's gloating. Sometimes crosses over into PsychoticSmirk.
* TheCavalry: Happens offscreen, but she sends her army to attack Hades while Pit is trapped in his belly.
* CharacterExaggeration: Viridi is more of a DeadpanSnarker in the English dub than she is in the original Japanese version, where she's more of a {{Tsundere}}.
* ColonyDrop: Drops Reset Bombs on the places that are being destroyed by humans. Succeeds the first time, but it always fails later.
* CouldHaveAvoidedThisPlot: Though Viridi doesn't merit ''all'' the blame, In Ch. 20, she does admit that the Chaos Kin scenario could've been avoided all together had she or Arlon explained the purpose of the Lunar Sanctum.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Blonde hair and gold eyes.
* CuteAndPsycho: A goddess with the appearance of an 8-year-old and a disturbing hate for humanity.
* CutenessProximity: She really, really loves her Bumpety Bombs.
* DeadpanSnarker: Doesn't come as a shock, given that ''everybody else'' is one, but she stands out among everyone else. Even Pit points out she always insults him whenever he opens his mouth.
* DefrostingIceQueen: Towards Pit anyway. As the two are forced to work together, she begins to warm up to him. Only time will tell whether this will extend to humanity as a whole.
* DubNameChange: From "[[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Naturé]], [[SheIsTheKing King of Nature]]" in the Japanese version.
* EnemyMine: Viridi partners up with Palutena and Hades to fight the Aurum invasion. She also helps Pit out during the Chaos Kin arc, filling in for Palutena.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: She's outright appalled when she realizes just how many souls it takes to make an army of Underworld monsters, even though those souls are those of the humans she so despises. Also, despite being a firm believer in HumansAreBastards, she nonetheless makes it clear that she sees humans as the LesserOfTwoEvils compared to the Underworld Army.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: For a given value of evil anyway. She just doesn't understand what Pit and Palutena see in humanity and frequently questions why they would fight for a species she considers inferior. At the end, after Hades is defeated, she gets into one last debate with them about humanity, but quickly storms off in annoyance when she can't convince them otherwise.
* ExplainingYourPowerToTheEnemy: A variation in that she doesn't explain her own power, but that of the one of her mooks:
-->'''Viridi''': That's a Jitterthug. Melee attacks won't hurt him at all when he's red. And when he's green, shooting him won't work! What are you gonna do ''now''?\\
'''Pit''': Uh... I guess I'll just melee him when he's green and shoot him when he's red.\\
'''Viridi''': [[OhCrap But... Oh, darn it!]]\\
'''Palutena''': [[LampshadeHanging Thanks for the advice!]]
* {{Expy}}: Of the greek goddess of harvest/nature Demeter especially since she cannot stand Hades and how if she doesn't get her way, she won't hesitate to destroy humanity.
* FantasticRacism: Towards humanity. And she's ''not'' shy about it either.
* FemmeFatalons: She states that her nails can tear the very earth and the planet asunder, but a closer look reveals her nails are that of a child. She was probably referring to the Viridi Claws.
* FlowerInHerHair: A purple one, that matches the one on her dress, because PurpleIsPowerful!
* {{Foil}}: To Palutena. Both characters help Pit out during the game and both possess similar powers, but their stances on humans are polar opposites of each other. Palutena is aware that humans are flawed, but believe that they have the potential to grow, learn, and change while Viridi believes that humans are inherently evil and destructive and incapable of change.
* FortuneTeller: Apparently, she does this service.
* FriendlyEnemy: Insults and sarcastic remarks aside, she and Pit get along pretty well when they're working together, especially in their random conversations.
* GaiasVengeance: Played viciously straight through the use of her Reset Bombs, which are tailor-made to kill humans and destroy their cities, while leaving natural habitats and wildlife alone, and then expanding into twisted forests.
* GardenGarment: Her clothing seems mostly made out of flowers and other natural materials. Fitting given her status as "Goddess of Nature".
* GoodIsNotNice: Though she gradually warms up to Pit and helps him on several occasions, her snarky and bratty attitude combined with her volatile temper makes getting along with her a bit of a chore to say the least.
* GranolaGirl: Oh dear.
-->''I use cloth shopping bags! I compost my food scraps! And I separate my garbage into fifteen types!''
* GreenEyes: In her in-game model, her eyes have a more greenish hue to them.
* GreenThumb: Comes with the title of "Goddess of Nature".
* HairTriggerTemper: It's not entirely difficult to make her angry.
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: At first, she's a villain, then becomes allies with Pit and Palutena over the course of the game to defeat the Aurum and Hades. According to Dark Pit's Palutena's Guidance conversation in ''Smash 4'', after the events of ''Uprising'', she's gone back to being Pit's enemy.
-->'''Viridi''': Just because we fought together once doesn't mean we're all buddy-buddy now.
* HeelFaceTurn: That being said, however, her opinions on humans do not seem to have changed.
* HumansAreBastards: While all of the gods have this belief to some degree, she is the standout example. And this belief gets taken to dangerous extremes.
* {{Hypocrite}}:
** She claims that humans are selfish and destructive and that she must destroy them before they do further harm to the earth. [[JerkassHasAPoint While technically she has a point]], her actions are just as destructive, if not more so.
** Played for laughs in the Japanese version. She'll criticize Pit's name for being a cliche pun off of Cupid. Even though in Japan, her name is '''Nature'''. It's not even in any sort of language.
* ImmortalImmaturity: As old as the earth, but has the mentality and emotional maturity of an 8-year-old.
* ImpliedLoveInterest: It's worth noting that she goes all {{Tsundere}} for Pit eventually, and the Pit-equippable Viridi Palm is (according to it's description) only worn by those completely devoted to Viridi.
* IWasJustPassingThrough: Insists that she's only helping Pit because it's in her best interest to do. While that is true due to the circumstances, her SuspiciouslySpecificDenial makes it obvious that she really does care about him.
* {{Jerkass}}: Volatile, immature, bratty, hypocritical, and bossy. Basically the quintessential BrattyHalfPint.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Eventually turns into this with some CharacterDevelopment as she eventually warms up to Pit. However, it doesn't really apply to humanity.
* JerkassHasAPoint: Played with. Both Pit and Palutena agree that she has valid points about humans, but they both insist that her actions are completely wrong.
* KarmaHoudini: She's the only Goddess that Pit doesn't fight, most likely because she [[HideYourChildren looks like a child]]. You fight her servants instead, as well as destroying the base where she makes the Reset Bombs. While she eventually warms up and becomes friendlier to Pit, she never apologizes or is punished for killing off a considerable amount of the human population.
* KillAllHumans: Viridi believes mankind to be a blight that will ultimately destroy the world, and to save nature, she must bomb them all to hell.
* KnightTemplar: Towards the earth, justifing her actions by saying that she must exterminate the humans to save the earth from further damage.
* LittleMissBadass: The Goddess of Nature and the leader of the Forces of Nature is no more physically imposing than your average eight year old.
* LittleMissSnarker: She's little, and she's ''really'' snarky.
* MeaningfulName: "Viridi" came from the word ''viridis'' which means either green, young, fresh, lively or youthful. Considering she's the Goddess of Nature with a young appearance, you would think that it would be her Japanese name as well. [[DubNameChange It isn't]], her Japanese name is "Naturé" which is, well... [[ExactlyWhatItSaysontheTin Take a wild guess.]]
* MissionControl: During the Chaos Kin arc. After you beat the game, you can choose to switch between her and Palutena.
* MisterBig: Having the body of an eight-year-old girl, most of the cast, including Pit and her commanders, [[http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/kidicarus/images/f/fa/Kiuheight.png tower over her]].
* MoralityPet: Pit becomes one to her. The only explanation as to why she's never punished for her crimes is that she's developed a soft spot for him.
* NatureSpirit: The Goddess of Nature.
* NoYou: Viridi [[JerkassHasAPoint has valid points about humans]], but her biggest detriment is her inability to accept she is wrong or at least be able to justify her views without flying off the handle like Posideon. When Pit and Palutena point out that killing humanity is not the answer, she always shrugs it off, saying they're doing the same thing to the Underworld forces. [[{{Hypocrite}} Despite hating and attacking the Underworld herself]]. Later, in chapter 22, when Dark Pit tells her that she and the other gods are just as responsible for disrupting the balance as Hades is, Viridi is just pissed that a "little nothing" like him would dare to speak to her like that, contrasting Palutena, who actually admits that Dark Pit [[JerkassHasAPoint isn't entirely wrong]].
* NotMeThisTime: Does this with the Aurum, pointing out to Pit she had nothing to do with them.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: In Chapter 19, after the Chariot Master dies in his fight with Pit, Viridi comforts Pit by telling him that the Chariot Master was an honorable warrior and Pit should not let his death be in vain. It's one of the rare moments where Viridi stops being a {{Jerkass}}.
* PestController: Some of the monsters in the Forces of Nature are insects.
* PimpedOutDress: One seemingly made of natural materials.
* PowerTattoo: Does not have one, but the Viridi Palm takes the appearance of a tattoo of her on the wearer's right arm.
* PreMortemOneLiner: When dropping her last reserved Reset Bomb on the Pyrrhon-controlled Aurum:
-->"Time to let nature take its course."
* PsychopathicManchild: Though more mature than Thanatos, she has her moments. Once she makes a HeelFaceTurn, the "psychopathic" part mostly leaves.
* RapunzelHair: Even when tied up in a ponytail, it's still long. Picture what it would look like untied.
* Really700YearsOld: WordOfGod states she has the body of an 8 year old, but being a goddess, she's clearly much older. She states the reason she looks so young is because she takes care of her skin. When Pit asks her how old she is, she simply states that she's immortal.
* SheIsTheKing: Her title in the Japanese game is "King of Nature".
* ShipTease: An easy to miss moment in Chapter 16 suggests she might have a soft spot for Pit. To drive it home further, the Viridi Palm is a weapon only usable by beings completely devoted to her. It's also a weapon that Pit can use. And it ''paints her face on a heart'' on his arm.
* SinisterScythe: Her staff resembles one.
* StaffOfAuthority Like all the goddesses in this game, she has one.
* StealthPun: She's the goddess of nature and refers to her minions as her children. She's mother nature.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: In her official artwork. Also extends to her troops.
* {{Tsundere}}: A fierce Type A, especially towards Pit. Whenever she helps him, she claims that it's simply in her best interest to do so. Palutena even [[LampshadeHanging lampshades it at one point.]] Outright called one in the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4duhVDc1fc Japanese version]]. Localized as Little Miss Cactus.
* TheUnfought: Justified that you fight her minions and commanders, and that from Chapter 15 on, there's always bigger threats that end up drawing Viridi into battling ''with'' you.
* WolverineClaws: Does not use any, but she possibly created the Viridi Claws.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Decides to end human-related devastation of nature [[ApocalypseHow by ending the human race itself]]. Both Pit and Palutena admit that she has a valid point, but insist that Viridi is going about it the wrong way.

-->''"..."''

A rocky golem-like being that is an extremely loyal servant of Viridi's. He is one of the leaders of her forces, similar to how Pit leads Plautena's forces.

* {{Acrofatic}}: He's quite mobile for a giant rock monster. One attack even has him briefly ''hovering in midair''.
* AntiVillain: He only attacks Pit out of loyalty for Viridi.
* AttackItsWeakPoint: His glowing butthole.
* {{BFG}}: Does not use one, but a weapon called the Cragalanche Cannon is modeled after him.
* TheBrute: Of the Forces of Nature.
* BullfightBoss: Pit has to get behind him to AttackItsWeakPoint.
* ChargeAttack: One of his moves has him charging at Pit like a meteor.
* DeathFromAbove: This is how he is introduced. Fittingly, his idol states that he tends to arrive on the front lines like a meteor. One attack during the fight has him attempting to body slam Pit.
* DishingOutDirt: His main method of attack is manipulating rocks.
* DubNameChange: From "Rocka" in the Japanese version.
%%* ElementalPowers
* GiantHandsOfDoom: One of his attacks has him enlarging his right hand to perform a MegatonPunch at Pit.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: Has glowing red and unblinking eyes.
* MagmaMan: Some of his other attacks involve throwing rocks of molten magma and charging at Pit like a meteor.
* TacticalSuicideBoss: Nearly all of his attacks expose his weak point, and the ones that don't actually have weak points so they can be stopped.
* TunnelKing: Can burrow underground at tremendous speed to preform a {{Shoryuken}}.
* TheVoiceless: Descibed as the strong, quiet type by Viridi. She talks for him and uses HulkSpeak.
** She claims it's because he's a rock. [[WildCardExcuse Yeah, a living, battle-capable rock]].
* WhipItGood: Can turn his left hand into a whip.

-->''"Why on earth would I be attacking? I'm far too busy... ''defending'', my dear."''

An ally of Viridi. He is the commander of the Lunar Sanctum.

* AffablyEvil: He's very polite to Pit and Palutena, only fighting them to defend Viridi's property. He even considers teaming up with Palutena against Hades, refusing only on the grounds of his loyalty to Viridi.
* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: His skin is entirely purple.
* AntiVillain: The only reason Pit attacks him is because he sides with Viridi.
* AttackDrones: Does not use any, but a weapon called the Arlon Orbitars is modeled after him.
* BadassBookworm: Had to be to have built the Lunar Sanctum.
* BadassGrandpa: Is the oldest member of the Forces of Nature, and it has not slowed him down one bit.
* BadassMustache: A big, thick white mustache.
* BattleButler: Dresses like a regular butler and is described as such in his AR card.
* CastingAShadow: One of his powers can darken the room as you battle.
* CombatPragmatist: Most of the boss fight has him attacking Pit from the shadows.
* CouldHaveAvoidedThisPlot: As Viridi stated, the Chaos Kin situation could have been avoided if he had just explained the purpose of the Lunar Sanctum to Pit and Palutena.
* EvilBrit: Again, not really evil, just antagonizing Pit and Palutena out of loyalty.
* TheEvilGenius: Of the Forces of Nature.
* GeniusBruiser: The creator of the Lunar Sanctum and a capable fighter despite his age.
* GetBackHereBoss: Spends the entirety of the battle moving around the room, stopping only to attack Pit. Gets even worse when he darkens the stage.
* GlassCannon: Arlon can throw many powerful energy attacks, but his slender frame and age makes him more vulnerable to attacks, which is the main reason he [[CombatPragmatist fights from the shadows]].
%%* HighClassGlass
* IGaveMyWord: His reason for not telling Pit and Palutena about the Chaos Kin; he took an oath of silence.
* TheLastOfTheseIsNotLikeTheOthers: Compared to all of Viridi's troops, Arlon is pretty random in that he doesn't seem to have any sort of relation to nature itself. [[ThatsNoMoon His moon-for-a-base doesn't help]].
* LoadBearingBoss: [[LivingBattery As Arlon's energy is what powers the Lunar Sanctum]], defeating him causes the temple to collapse. And considering [[EldritchAbomination what he's]] [[SealedEvilInACan keeping sealed]], it ''really'' sucks for everyone when Pit defeats him.
* MasterOfIllusion: His level is littered with fake walls, invisible switches and floors, and walking holograms of Forces Of Nature soilders.
* MeaningfulName: Arlon the ''Serene'' fits his personality quite well. In addition, "Serene" is one letter away from "Selene", a Greek ''Moon'' goddess.
* OnlySaneMan: One of the less eccentric and wacky characters in the game.
%%* QuintessentialBritishGentleman
* TheStoic: Is always calm and never raises his voice, even in battle.
* TacticalSuicideBoss: Arlon's attacks will give away his location clearly. And even when he isn't attacking, if one looks hard enough, you can see his shadow moving in the darkness.

[[folder:Lightning Flash Phosphora]]

[[quoteright:300:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_457px-phosphora_artwork_4294.png]]

-->''"It's just one fight after another! Today is not my day."''

Another ally of Viridi. She specializes in lightning-based attacks.

* AffablyEvil: Really only considered to be "evil" due to her association with Viridi. She's actually quite nice and even flirts with Pit a little, which is further demonstrated by her assisting Pit with the Lightning Chariot after the Forces of Nature's HeelFaceTurn.
* AntiVillain: [[SlidingScaleOfAntiVillains Type IV]] given that like Arlon, the only reason Pit attacks her is because she's on Viridi's side.
* ArcherArchetype: Haughty, ranged specialist, graceful - all great descriptions of Phosphora's nature. Plus, the weapon that Pit gets patterned after her is a bow.
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: Stands out as the most powerful warrior in the Forces of Nature.
* BadassAdorable: Much like Pit, she's cute and friendly. But that doesn't mean she can't kick ass. She manages to beat Thanatos in a straight-on fight and despite being wounded and weakened, she manages to put up a decent fight against Pit. In fact, it's implied that the only reason Pit won was because she was weak from her fight with Thanatos and had she been at full power, Pit probably wouldn't have stood a chance.
* BareYourMidriff: Wears a midriff-baring tube top.
* BattleAura: When she TurnsRed.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: One minute, she's talking and flirting with you like she's your best friend. The next minute, she's frying you alive with lightning bolts.
* BloodKnight: A milder and much more tame variation. When Pit begins his rally cry, Phosphora fires a few bolts of lightning at him, interrupting his rally cry and telling him to just skip to the main act.
* BrokeYourArmPunchingOutCthulhu: She managed to defeat Thanatos in the Air Battle, but it unfortunately left her weak enough for Pit to battle her.
* CombatPragmatist: One of the very few of Pit's foes to avert TalkingIsAFreeAction by attacking him in the midst of his [[InTheNameOfTheMoon rallying cry]].
* CuteBruiser: The strongest commander of the Forces of Nature is no more physically intimidating than your average teenager.
* DarkActionGirl: Though she's more of an AntiVillain, it still fits.
* DeathFromAbove: Can call down lightning strikes from the sky during her boss battle.
* DistaffCounterpart: To some extent she's a counterpart to Pit, but for the Forces of Nature. Both are the NumberTwo to their respective goddesses, both are the strongest commanders in their armies, and both are capable of taking on gods. Moreover, the weapon patterned after her abilities is a bow, Pit's signature weapon.
* TheDragon: For Viridi.
* DubNameChange: From "Eleca" in the Japanese version.
* EvilVersusEvil: Her introduction invokes this with Thanatos, where Palutena ends up wondering [[OhCrap if Pit'll have to fight both of them at once.]]
* FailureIsTheOnlyOption: Invoked. Phosphora herself says in her debut chapter that she wasn't going to have a great day after reading Viridi's fortune. [[JustForPun Naturally]], she gets taken down.
* {{Flight}}: Can fly through the air at incredible speed.
* GadgeteerGenius: A largely InformedAbility, but the Electro Trap's idol descrpiton states that she developed an earlier model while in the Thunder Cloud Temple...
* GeniusBruiser: Which would make her this by default.
* GetBackHereBoss: Constantly moves around the room, even teleporting on occasion, though she'll also try to close the gap with powerful [[KickChick kick attacks]].
* GroundPound: One attack during her boss fight has her punching the ground to create a dome-shaped explosion of electricity.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: She has blonde hair and is a pretty nice girl.
* HandwrapsOfAwesome: Wears black handwraps on her wrists and feet.
* HiddenDepths: See GadgeteerGenius above.
* HighSpeedBattle: Against Thanatos.
* InformedFlaw: Her trophy in ''Smash 4'' states that she's not a good singer.
* LightningBruiser: Pun aside, she's fast as lightning and her electrical powers make her a potent threat.
* LivingBattery: Serves as this for the Thunder Cloud Temple. Defeating her destroys the temple.
* LoadBearingBoss: [[LivingBattery As her energy is what powers the Thunder Cloud Temple]], defeating her causes the temple to collapse.
* MsFanservice: She complements this with her outfit and flirty nature.
* {{Meaningful Name}}: Unlike Viridi, whose Japanese name has less creative input to it, Phosphora's name in both English and Japanese has more to it than one might think. Her English name came from ''phosphorus'', which means "light-bringer" while her Japanese name, "Eleca," seems to be a combination of ''Electra'', a mythological nymph, and ''Erica'', a type of flower. Eleca (and even more so Electra) also sounds similar to "electric."
* NotQuiteDead: Ch 20 reveals she survived her fight with Pit in Ch. 14, helping him alongside Viridi.
* NumberTwo: To Viridi.
* PowerOfTheStorm: Implied to be able to command storms.
%%* PurpleEyes
* ScarfOfAsskicking: A long blue scarf that flows whenever she uses her powers.
* ShipTease: She teases Pit and calls him cute. Pit's [[LuminescentBlush reaction]] doesn't help.
* ShockAndAwe: [[CaptainObvious well, duh.]] Aside from just zapping people, Phosphora can also turn into a bolt of lightning for quick transport.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: And to complement this, she has vines tangling some parts of her body. [[TheDragon This only enforces her dragon status to Viridi]].
* SuperSpeed: [[JustForPun She moves like lightning]].
* TurnsRed: "[[BattleAura Charging complete~!]]"
* ValleyGirl: Slips into this from time to time.
%%* WhoWearsShortShorts
* WorfHadTheFlu: Her idol states that she was still wounded from her fight with Thanatos when she fights Pit, hence her not displaying the same amount of power she did before.
* YellowLightningBlueLightning: Her lightning is in both colors, as well as [[PurpleIsPowerful purple lightning]].

Creatures that are created by and serve Viridi, like their name suggests they are made with natural resources.

* BigCreepyCrawlies: The Megontas are large pillbugs.
* FluffyTheTerrible: Most of the Forces of Nature soldiers have jarringly cute names. Case in point: Bumpety Bomb and Boom Stomper. Viridi named them herself.
* HelpfulMook: They fight with you during the Aurum invasion.
** Nutskis in particular carry a platform for Pit to stand on.
* PuppeteerParasite: One of the kinds of creatures faced is a fungus that has killed and taken over a very large Rhino beetle.
* SuperPersistentPredator: According to its idol description, once angered it takes three days for a Clobbler to calm down. [[GameplayAndStorySegregation (It actually does so quite quickly if you leave it alone.)]]
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: There are several troops that behave like reskins of Underworld enemies, such as Nutskis when compared to Monoeyes.
** Clobblers are similar to Clubberskulls in that they're harmless until attacked, at which point they become very dangerous. Clobblers will at least walk around when nonhostile, albeit aimlessly.

A race of aliens that steal constellations from the heavens to sell. Unfortunately, they were caught up in the war due to having mistakingly taken the three Sacred Treasures which were hidden in one of them.

* ArmCannon: Space Pirate Commandos and Sniper Pirates, their guns take up their entire fore-arms.
* BadassNormal: Unlike other enemies in the game, the space pirates have no real powers of their own, but are willing and able to punch the living daylights out of you, snipe you, and blow you up with rocket lauchers. They can even take down underworld goons if you allow them to (some of the best examples being two snipers that are able to kill a [[DemonicSpider Clubberskull]], as well as a lone Commando squaring off against a Snowman).
* ColdSniper: Space Pirate Snipers, whose shooting animation is rather identical to the archetypical sniper.
%%* EnergyBeings
* EvilPoacher: Ones that steal constellations, no less.
* MonumentalTheft: Though, considering that this universe is largely based on mythology, it might be a bit more believable that they can steal constellations.
* PowerFist: All of them, but most prominant in the Yellow space pirates (who fist-fight); where their idol description states that they have exoskeletons, making natural gauntlets on their hands.
%%* SpacePirates:
* ThirdEye: Snipers have these to make up for sight lost when in their sniping position.
* TooDumbToLive: Averted with Snipers, some don't seem to realize you need to be hidden from sight, and/or out of reach for sniping to work. Some however, like the two that fight the Clubberskull, at least try to stay out of their opponents reach by standing on higher platforms, the key word being "try". Early on in the stage, there is an explosive barrel in a corridor. Naturally, the first space pirate runs right to it and starts attacking Pit from that spot.
* VillainsOutShopping: The pirates have a hotspring on board their ship; when you come across it, a Commando is chilling out there.

* BaitAndSwitchBoss: He is eaten by the Galactic Fiend Kraken.
%%* BitCharacter

* TheUnfought: Right as Pit gets to him, the Galactic Fiend Kraken makes him into a quick snack.
* TheUnpronounceable: His idol states that his true name is impossible for human tongues to pronounce.

* GiantSpaceFleaFromNowhere: In the middle of an assault on space pirates who had taken one of the Three Sacred Treasures, Pit expected to fight their captain, not a giant squid. {{Lampshaded}} by Palutena.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: An odd variation, there are glowing spots on its eyes that shift position constantly in a pattern; and in addition its eyes glow for a second before one of its attacks.

%%* HiveMind
* HiveQueen: The Aurum Brain controls the whole Aurum swarm.
* HordeOfAlienLocusts: They travel from planet to planet, beckoned by destruction and chaos, and consume each one.

!!The Chaos Kin

-->''Everything changes, Pit... even ''Gods''''!

An ancient entity of pure evil and chaos that is accidentally released during the battle of the Lunar Sanctum. Using Palutena as its host, it seeks to plunge the world into endless conflict and chaos.

* ArcVillain: For Chapters 18 to 21.
* BewareMyStingerTail: Primarily uses its tail to steal souls, and can use it for combat purposes.
* BigCreepyCrawlies: The thing is a freakish blend of a moth, a scorpion, and a spider.
* BreakThemByTalking: While possessing Palutena, the Chaos Kin berates and insults Pit in an attempt to break his spirit.
* ChaosIsEvil: A being of chaos that desires nothing less than total destruction.
* CombatPragmatist: The Chaos Kin is not above hiding behind its possessed victims and then dragging the unexpected down with it off with it. It also loves attacking the characters from behind.
* CombatTentacles: At least during its final moments when it tried to drag Pittoo down via a TentacleRope.
* CowardlyBoss: In both of its boss fights, the only time it stops hiding and/or scurrying around for a decent length of time is when you manage to stun it.
* DefiantToTheEnd: It attempts to drag Dark Pit down with itself when defeated in the Chaos Vortex.
* DemonicPossession: It possesses Palutena, causing her to go mad and turn against humanity.
* DiabolusExNihilo: It's mentioned in-universe that nobody knows where it came from.
* DirtyCoward: It hides behind Palutena when it shows itself during the first battle (provoking Pit to outright call it one), it sends an army of enemies to do its dirty work, and it tries to escape when finally cornered and exhausted in Chapter 21. The only thing stopping it is a quick forcefield Viridi sets up around the arena.
* DubNameChange: It was known as the "Envoy of Chaos" in the Japanese version.
* DystopiaJustifiesTheMeans: The Chaos Kin seeks to spread discord and malice wherever it goes.
* EldritchAbomination: It is [[SealedEvilInACan locked away]] for its vileness, it resembles an incredibly grotesque mix of a moth, a spider, a scorpion, and a cockroach, and it eats souls, including the soul of a goddess. Its realm, the [[EldritchLocation Chaos Vortex]] is bizarre, to say the least.
* FateWorseThanDeath: It is still alive as a pile of ash, and could only be revived by possessing Dark Pit. Fortunately, Pit was able to save him, leaving the Chaos Kin trapped inside the Chaos Vortex for all eternity.
* FragileSpeedster: It's a speedy demon that can throw many quick attacks at you, but it can't take that many hits in comparison, as it has fairly low health in its boss fight.
* GenericDoomsdayVillain: The Chaos Kin's idol description outright states that it is a mindless creature who possesses nothing but the desire to cause destruction.
* GetBackHereBoss: During the air segment of Chapter 21.
* KickTheDog: Leaves Pit stranded in an inanimate object for three whole years, kidnaps and brainwashes his goddess while doing so, proceeds to mock the very things he was raised to believe in right from the same mouth of said goddess, steals Palutena's soul when Pit frees her from his control, and finally tries to possess Dark Pit in a last ditch effort to revive itself and make Pit suffer. Its whole life is basically one long string of this.
* KnightOfCerebus: While Hades is cruel and callous, he is at least, enjoyable and entertaining. The Chaos Kin and its actions are taken much more seriously with no humor to balance it out.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6AQuJkdS9A Has one]] that plays in in several sections in its StoryArc.
* MadeOfIron: Even despite looking like an oversized bug and having low health in its boss battle, it is pretty resilient. It survived a beating from Pit, taking several more hits after being shot down in the Chaos Vortex, then still had enough energy to conjure up thirteen waves of monsters. Afterwards, it had another boss battle with Pit, but then survives being turned into ash and still made one last attempt to revive itself before it was too late for it. According to its Idol description, it's still alive, just trapped in the Chaos Vortex.
* MookMaker: To an insane degree. Notably, it creates copies of Aurum enemies that were already copies of the Forces of Nature. Pit and Viridi note this redundancy.
* NearVillainVictory: In the three years between chapters 17 and 18, its not only completely taken over Sky World and its forces, but has done more damage to the human world than even ''Hades'', even managing to temporarily turn Magnus against Pit.
* OmnicidalManiac: It simply desires disorder and destruction, nothing more.
* PuppeteerParasite: Takes control of Palutena while trying to feed on her soul.
* RecurringBoss: It's the primary target in Chapter 20's fight despite Palutena being the aggressor, you engage it in aerial combat for the second half of Chapter 21's Air Battle segment, and finally you get a formal boss battle against it at the end of 21.
* SealedEvilInACan: It was sealed inside the Lunar Sanctum. The green glow escaping at the end of Chapter 13 is actually the Chaos Kin. The idol of its ash form reveals that after its bout with Pit it's now contained in the Chaos Vortex in its weakened state.
* TheSpeechless: It can only talk when it's possessing someone.
* TacticalSuicideBoss: The first time you fight it, it will sometimes wrap itself around Palutena. If it just hung on to Palutena the whole time, it would've been impossible to defeat it. And then the second time you fight it, it will sometimes try to close in on you for a melee attack, but can be foiled by an electro trap.
* TakingYouWithMe: Once Pit exorcises it from Palutena, it decides to have the last laugh by ''stealing her soul''. And it does it again by trying to take Dark Pit down with it once the two manage to get Palutena's soul back, albeit this time in an attempt to revive itself later.
* ThinkingUpPortals: Can use its tail to cleave a portal into the Chaos Vortex.
%%* VileVillainSaccharineShow: Unlike the rest of the characters in this game, the Chaos Kin itself is completely silent on its own and not over the top like the others, its actions are taken far more seriously, and has nearly destroyed the world in three years. It's just as vile as Hades, but at least he provides entertainment with his villainy.
* TheVoiceless: It can't speak on its own. But it can speak when possessing others, and when its possessing Palutena, it is ''very'' vocal, and [[BreakThemByTalking not in a good way]].
* WalkingSpoiler: Its arc marks the start of a WhamEpisode, and a big one at that.
* YourSoulIsMine: It has the ability to consume souls, and it rips out Palutena's soul in front of Pit and escapes into its home dimension.
