!!Chrom (Krom)
[[quoteright:264:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/264px-Krom_Artwork_5306.jpg]]
The first and foremost main character of the game, Chrom is the Prince of the Halidom of Ylisse is and a descendant of the Holy King who defeated the Fell Dragon Grima. Although royalty, he serves as Captain of the Shepherds, a local vigilante force, to keep his country at peace, and when suspicious activity is happening in the enemy nation of Plegia, he decides to investigate. He wields his nation's treasured sword, the Binding Blade "[[CoolSword Falchion]]". He may seem unsociable at first glance, but bursts into enthusiasm whenever anything interesting happens. Breaks the most things during army practice. His birthday is May 27th.

->'''Class:''' Lord
->'''Voiced by:''' TomokazuSugita (Japanese), MatthewMercer (English)
----
* AccidentalPervert: In their B support, Chrom walks in on a female Avatar naked.
* ActionDad: To [[spoiler:Lucina]]. Also possibly to Male Morgan, Cynthia, Brady, Kjelle and Inigo.
* {{Badass}}: Being a ''FireEmblem'' Lord, this was pretty much a given:
** BadassNormal
** BadassBaritone: He has a surprisingly deep voice for his build.
** BadassCape
** BadassFamily: If you marry the right characters, he gets to be ThePatriarch of one of the biggest [[BadassFamily Badass Families]] in video game history.
** BadassGrandpa: If the Avatar marries any of his children, he becomes Morgan's grandfather. [[spoiler:Although due to TimeTravel, he's still very young]].
** BadassInCharge
* BattleCouple: Can be paired with Sumia, Maribelle, Sully, Olivia, or Female Avatar. And the boost he gets is pretty impressive.
* BigBrotherMentor: To Lissa.
* BirthmarkOfDestiny: The Mark of Naga on his shoulder.
* CoolSword: He wields the [[FireEmblemAkaneia Falchion]]
** Plus BladeOnAStick after promotion.
* FutureMeScaresMe: PlayedForLaughs if he's Cynthia's father, and she reveals Future Chrom's pet name for her was "pega-pony-princess".
* TheHero
* [[spoiler:TheHeroDies]]: SpoilerOpening
** [[spoiler:FakingTheDead: [[SuperDickery How things work out in the main game.]]]] "I'm changing fate!"
* [[spoiler:HeroicBSOD]]: [[spoiler:Suffers one in the aftermath of Emmeryn's death. It takes the Avatar and all the other characters' words of encouragement to snap him out of it.]]
* HeroicLineage
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Though he catches on quick and corrects his mistake, when [[spoiler: Lucina]] asks to train with him he tells her it would be pointless as there's nothing he could possibly teach her. [[spoiler: The realization being that he's dead in her future, so she's not so much really asking to train but to spend time with her father again with what little common ground they have.]]
* MrFanservice: In Japan most female players pair their female Avatar with him, and looks like female Western gamers plan to do the same. That's gotta mean something. [[http://www.nintendo.co.jp/fe/kakusei_bk/kekka/index.html He also took first place in the male character poll]] (link contains spoilers). Oh, and naturally he gets a swimsuit scene in the DLC.
* TheNicknamer
* OlderAndWiser [=/=] OlderThanTheyLook: Chrom most notably looks more like an adult than a teenager. Time will tell if he's the first ''Emblem'' lord who's all grown up since Sigurd or whether it's just down to the art style.
* OneManArmy: Another given for ''FireEmblem'' Lords.
* RoyalRapier
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething
* ScrewDestiny: His first sample clip on the official site is him saying "I'm changing fate". Contrast [[YouCantFightFate Validar's line]].
* SleevesAreForWimps: He appears to wear them after he promotes, though.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: [[ConanTheBarbarian Crom]], Krom, and Chrome are all valid interpretations of the male lead's name.
** And in the end, it turned out the official answer was "none of the above", as Nintendo of America romanized it as "Chrom".
* WarriorPrince
* WeaponTwirling: Part of his VictoryPose.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair

!!Avatar (My Unit) (default: Robin [Rufure])
[[quoteright:303:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/FE_A_Avatar_9133.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:303:Two examples of the possible looks the Avatar can get, one for each gender.]]
Another main hero of the game, whose identity and name is crafted by you - the player. You collapsed one day in the middle of nowhere for no apparent reason. Although you have no memories to speak of, it's clear that you're an expert tactician. You're extremely charismatic and can bond with almost everybody. The army's greatest enigma. [[spoiler:You are Validar's child and a vessel required for the resurrection of the Fell Dragon. Your mother was a member of the Grimleal, but she betrayed the cult and took you, when you were an infant, away to safety. Grima's arrival from the future caused you to lose your memory when you first met Chrom.]]

->'''Class:''' Tactician
->'''Male voiced by:''' YoshimasaHosoya or TohruOokawa (Japanese), DavidVincent, Brandon Karrer, or ChristopherCoreySmith (English)
->'''Female voiced by:''' MiyukiSawashiro (Japanese), MichelleRuff or WendeeLee (English)
----
* AGodIAmNot: [[spoiler:According to Validar near the end of the game, you could have been a god but you chose to be with your companions instead.]]
* AbusiveParents: [[spoiler:Your biological father conceived you specifically to become the host of a EldritchAbomination. Fortunately, your biological mother betrayed the cult and smuggled both of you out the country.]]
* AccidentalPervert: Inverted in a Female Avatar's A support with Chrom, where she walks in on a naked Chrom.
** She also does it to Gaius and Say'ri.
* TheAce: His/her ability to master a huge number of classes in the game, support with every character and be the TheStrategist of the the force simultaneously lands the Avatar quite firmly in this trope.
* ActionGirl: When she's a girl, [[CaptainObvious obviously]].
* AdorablyPrecociousChild: There are three different builds per gender to choose from: adult, late teen... and this. Which leads to {{Shotacon}} and {{Lolicon}} when the supports come into play... However, the localization does not have any "deep" or "childish" voices to choose from, which makes it closer to a young teen, like Ricken.
* AmnesiacHero: Lissa lampshades this to which Fredrick calls BS on the whole EasyAmnesia.
* [[spoiler:AntiChrist: The Avatar is the ChosenOne that will become the vessel for Grima, this universe's equivalent of Satan in the BadFuture. Which leads to...]]
** [[spoiler:AntiAntiChrist]]
* [[spoiler:ApocalypseMaiden: The world goes to hell if Avatar gets possessed by Grima. In the BadFuture, the possession is successful. In the present, they manage to successfully avert this fate for the Avatar. Alas, Grima has a backup plan...]]
* AudienceSurrogate: ''Obviously''.
* {{Badass}}: Pretty much goes without speaking.
** BadassAbnormal: Being able to change into any class not restricted by gender or exclusivity.
** BadassBookWorm[=/=]GeniusBruiser: You are the vigilante group's tactician.
** BadassLongcoat: wears a black coat/duster with a hood.
** BadassPrincess: If a Female Avatar marries Chrom.
** BadassBystander: The prologue sees your amnesiac avatar as anything but helpless. Being able to fight with swords and sorcery along with knowledge of battlefield tactics and awareness.
** BadassLonghair: Some of the hair options in character creation.
* BashBrothers: A Male Avatar and Chrom are very much this.
* BattleCouple: Can be paired with any playable unit of the opposite sex.
* {{Bishonen}}: Very definitely an option for a Male Avatar.
* BornWinner: [[spoiler:As revealed by Validar, the Avatar was bred to become the vessel for Grima.]]
* CanonWelding: [[spoiler: In the Lyn DLC, Lyn speculates that that Mark/The Tactician from [[FireEmblemElibe Blazing Sword]] and the Avatar are indeed one and the same. The Avatar can confirm or deny her.]]
* CharacterCustomization
* ChickMagnet[=/=]DudeMagnet: The Avatar is confirmed to be able to hook up with ANY of the playable characters, provided they're of the opposite gender.
* CrazyPrepared: In Chapter 23, [[spoiler: it's revealed that the Avatar knew Basilio was alive and was using him as a secret agent to perform tasks that the Avatar couldn't do without being noticed, due to Validar's spies being everywhere. This includes ''replacing the stones on the Fire Emblem with fakes'', just in case Validar actually managed to get hold of it.]]
* [[spoiler:DemonicPossession: In the SpoilerOpening.]]
* DeadpanSnarker: He/she has his/her moments.
* DidYouJustRomanceCthulhu: Male Avatar can hook up with Tiki, who's a PersonOfMassDestruction that her mother Naga had to put her into DeepSleep to prevent her from degenerating into madness like all the other dragons. Her power is so tremendous that if she goes wild, the world will be destroyed.
** It's also possible to pair them up with the [=SpotPass=] characters, including [[spoiler: Gangrel and ''Walhart.'']]
** Considering how Robin [[spoiler: is the avatar of Grima, he/she arguably is this towards any of his/her potential pairings.]]
* [[spoiler:DisneyDeath: At the end of the game.]]
* ElementalPowers - Able to wield magic tomes.
** PlayingWithFire
** BlowYouAway
** ShockAndAwe: Seems to prefer this, given that s/he starts with a Thunder tome and uses them in cutscenes.
* EliteTweak: The Avatar isn't a guaranteed GameBreaker like in the previous game, as the [[TheStrategist Tactician]] class starts out with stats and growth rates slightly weaker than the [[HeroUnit Lord]] class. However, branching into different classes will allow you to learn their skills and equip them when you class change back. This can eventually lead to the Avatar becoming one of the most powerful units in the army.
* [[spoiler:[[EnemyWithout Hero Without]]: Grima's]]
* FeaturelessProtagonist: The Game let's you choose your name, face, build, gender, birthday, and voice. The cut-scenes show your avatar hooded.
* FutureMeScaresMe: Not surprising considering he/she [[spoiler: becomes an EldritchAbomination]]
* GameplayAndStoryIntegration[=/=]LeaningOnTheFourthWall: In the Prologue chapter, the Avatar states that they can see things like the enemies strengths, weaknesses and weapons. Just like the player can.
* HelloInsertNameHere
** GenderBlenderName: In the English version at least, the default appears to be Robin, a name that could be male or female.
* GrandTheftMe: In an AlternateTimeline, Grima possesses your body and creates a BadFuture.
* GuileHero: The Avatar is the only person in the game that has support conversations with every recruitable character in the game.
* HeroicMime: Strangely enough, you're given the ''option'' to make them one (in the Japanese version at least). Other players' Avatars recruited from Streetpass are also this by default, at least during dialogue, (They do get VoiceGrunting in combat as usual) presumably so they don't overshadow the "main" Avatar in story importance.
* [[spoiler:HeroicSacrifice:]] [[spoiler:It's possible for the Avatar to pull one of these in the endgame, so as to ensure that Grima is permanently killed. The Avatar isn't actually dead though and seems to return fairly soon.]]
* HeterosexualLifePartners: Male Avatar and Chrom with A support.
* InstantExpert: Avatar has access to nearly all classes and skills.
* InTheHood: In some the CG cut scenes, no doubt due to the number of variations in his/her appearance presenting a logistical nightmare otherwise. In others, like what looks like the first one, things are shown from his/her perspective to avoid looking at him/her at all.
* IOweYouMyLife: The Avatar very much has this towards Chrom. A Male Avatar expresses it very well in their A support.
-->'''Male Avatar''': I'll save you like you saved me. So, let me help you. I'll bet on those bonds you made.
* [[spoiler:[[HydePlaysJekyll Jekyll Plays Hyde]]: In the main game.]]
* LauncherOfAThousandShips: '''In-universe!''' He/she can marry ''anyone.'' (Except Morgan, of course.)
** HoYay[=/=]LesYay: The Avatar can support everyone of the same gender as well, and some of them don't change for the Avatar's gender... [=Tharja/FemAvatar=] stands out especially.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaEu4kAWhQQ "Id (Serenity)"]], which gets many variations, most notably a TriumphantReprise [[spoiler: as the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4QTEzsCRIE Final Chapter theme.]]]]
* LethalChef[=/=]SupremeChef: Avatar varies between the two wildly. In particular, the non-human members of the army seem to think s/he's the best chef ever.
* MagicKnight: Is able to wield [[CoolSword swords]] and magic.
** Through reclassing however, the Avatar can access any weapon type. However, they may or may not be a Magic Knight depending on what you reclass into.
* MarkOfTheBeast: On the back of his/her hand. [[spoiler: Yes, it is related to [[BiggerBad Grima]].]]
* ManchurianAgent: [[spoiler:In the BadFuture timeline. Luckily you came CrazyPrepared in your timeline.]]
* MeaningfulName: In addition to simply referring to an entity that represents the player, in Hindu mythology, an Avatar is a terrenal manifestation of a deity. [[spoiler:In the BadFuture, your body gets [[GrandTheftMe hijacked]] and becomes the Avatar of the Fell Dragon Grima.]]
* MissionControl: His/her role within the army. He/she is, however, also a certified {{Badass}} in combat.
* NoodleIncident: In a support conversation with Gaius, he/she tells him an embarrassing secret involving a cow.
* OneManArmy: Can potentially become this if you got the time. The Avatar has to the ability the class change into any non-exclusive class and learn their skills. With the right skill setups, you can [[OneHitKill one-shot]] enemies and dodge enemies like a [[BulletTime bullet timer]].
* ShipperOnDeck: Since the Avatar determines who gets placed where, paired up, etc. he/she ultimately decides who ends up with who.
* SmartPeoplePlayChess: Or at least an {{Expy}} of Chess, in their supports with Virion. Though given they're the army's strategist it's pretty understandable.
* StatusBuff: The Avatar learns two of these in the Tactician and Grandmaster classes.
* {{Superdickery}}: The opening Prelude sees you stabbing Chrom with a bolt of lighting followed by an EvilLaugh.
* SupportingProtagonist: The story is seen from his/her perspective and its GameOver if he/she ever goes down.
* TheStrategist: Both his/her starting class and role within the army. S/he's also a tactician though.
* ThisLoserIsYou: Completely inverted. Not only does the Avatar have a special class and is the first true MagicKnight since Judgral, but he/she can also get paired with any playable character of the opposite gender (including [[TheHero Chrom]] and Sumia), and even have kids. Way to go, stud!
* [[spoiler:TimeTravelRomance: S/He's the only first generation character that can marry characters from the future]].
* TomatoInTheMirror
* [[spoiler:TookALevelInBadass: And how!]]
* WarriorTherapist: Some of the support conversations you have with your team members.
* WeCannotGoOnWithoutYou: Like all the Lords, it's GameOver if you ever get taken out.
* [[YouGottaHaveBlueHair You Gotta Have Any Color Hair]]: There are 20 different possible hair colors for the character. Of course, unrealistic colors are the most common.
* ZettaiRyouiki: Female Avatar as a Grandmaster appears to have some.

Whether he's truly the Hero-King or simply an impersonator is a mystery. [[spoiler: ''[[SamusIsAGirl She]]'' is actually [[LukeYouAreMyFather Chrom's daughter]] from the future. * [[spoiler:NotSoAboveItAll: Her C support with her possible siblings has her scolding him/her for making fuss over a bug, but when she sees the bug herself, she screams like a girl.]]
* OneManArmy: [[spoiler:Well... "One-WOMAN army", actually...]] One of the most powerful characters in the entire game.
* TheOtherDarrin: "Marth" is YuuKobayashi instead of HikaruMidorikawa. [[spoiler: This is your first clue to her true identity, therefore subverting it.]]
* [[spoiler: RapunzelHair: Her hair is actually a little bit ''more'' than waist-long, which makes her CompressedHair ''really'' impressive.]]
** [[spoiler: [[AllThereInTheManual Artbook]] [[WordOfGod of God]] explains this. The top layers of her hair are cut to neck length while the rest is longer and tucked into the back of her shirt until TheReveal.]]
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: [[spoiler:Just not the royal she claims to be at first...]]
* [[spoiler: SamusIsAGirl]]
* [[spoiler:SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong]]
* [[spoiler:SheIsAllGrownUp: Played backwards. The game seems to imply that some male characters, like Basilio, are REALLY looking forward for present-day-Lucina to hit 18 now that they see the future-Lucina is quite a looker. [[MayDecemberRomance How that would work out]]... [[{{Squick}} is another matter entirely]].]]
* ShroudedInMyth
* {{Superdickery}}: Marth and Chrom fight early on in the Ferox arena as part of a CombatByChampion contest. Naturally, early trailers played this up to make Marth look like an antagonist.
* [[spoiler:SweetPollyOliver]]: [[spoiler: Played with, notably why [[CannotTalkToWomen Lon'qu]] who otherwise never lost a single fight for Basilio lost so easily.]]
* [[spoiler: TimeTravelRomance: She can get married with Male Avatar.]]
* WakeUpCallBoss: On the higher difficulties, Marth's stats when fought in Chapter 4 are considerably higher than any prior boss, and they're armed with a very strong weapon. Now is about the point where you need to make use of the Pair Up system, or be prepared for this guy to destroy you.
* WalkingSpoiler: Why has this character most of his tropes covered by spoiler tags? [[spoiler:[[FirstEpisodeSpoiler Because behind the mask, "he" is Chrom's daughter from the future!]]]]
