* {{Expy}}: Of the Master. He's far from the same character with the SerialNumbersFiledOff, but they have a lot of similar personality traits ([[YouMakeMeSic pedantry]], [[ManOfWealthAndTaste a fondness for elegant dark clothes]], [[DeadpanSnarker snarkiness]], etc.), they have rather similar relationships to the Doctor, and both function as a recurring villain who often [[EnemyMine collaborates with the Doctor against a more immediate menace]]. Interestingly, Lawrence Miles, who came up with Sabbath, objected to Sabbath's gradual drift into {{Suspiciously Similar Substitute}}hood, as he intended the character as more of a DarkerAndEdgier version of the Doctor.

* GoodThingYouCanHeal: He gets injured in almost every single EDA, usually multiple times. He's been shot, stabbed, squished flat, beaten almost to a bloody pulp, etc., and unless he's been BroughtDownToNormal [[HealingFactor it rarely takes more than a couple days for him to heal.]] [[{{Determinator}} Perhaps unsurprisingly]], he tends to take advantage of this fact by treating his own body as a meat shield, [[ICanStillFight doing irresponsible and foolhardy things while bleeding all over the place]], and just outright acting like a goddamn masochist.

* PlatonicLifePartners: With Fitz. They're basically each other's {{Not Love Interest}}s; they have relationship drama and occasionally act irrationally because of their feelings for each other, but the only flicker of attraction between them is wholly on his side. Her relationship with the Doctor has elements of this, too; her relationship with him is so chaste that she can acknowledge he's attractive without actually being at all attracted to him, and she actually seems to consider him to be like a sister to her ("he seemed to count in her head as another girl").

* EruditeStoner: The personality without the pot. You can't make him angry without a serious effort, his thought processes are often not exactly normal, he eats like it's going out of style, and as the series goes on he becomes a bit of a BigBrotherMentor to Anji and then Trix, and the Doctor too in a way. Also, he's been calm and philosophical about the end of the world. Suddenly becoming a tangled-up [[NoodlePeople noodle person]] merely inspired in him dismay about how long it'd take to untangle himself. He once had a couple shots of liquor and fell fast asleep while right under Sabbath's nose -- Sabbath being the guy who once ripped out the Doctor's heart bare-handed (well, [[GlovedFistOfDoom glove-handed, but is that any less scary]]?). Sure, Fitz can be scared easily, but he's just as likely to be extremely calm about terrifying things.

* FemmeFatale: Not as much as some examples, but she can be quite vicious sometimes and gets Fitz wrapped around her little finger (although she scares [[TheChick him]] on occasion).[[hottip:* :He probably finds it unusual that in this list, he gets to top for once!]]

* DrivesLikeCrazy: Almost every time he's behind the wheel of a car, he hits something with it. It's [[CarFu usually intentional]], but sometimes he's not. Is there really any call to "crunch" the gearstick?

* {{Expy}}: Little Brother [[EdwardScissorhands Edward]] from ''Of The City of the Saved'' is essentially a clone of JohnnyDepp whose personality keeps wobbling between different characters the original has played. Also a {{Woobie}}.

* MagnificentBastard / [[GuileHero Guile Anti Hero]]: Godfather Morlock[[hottip:* :"You're a ruthless bastard, Morlock! I'd almost ''like'' you, if you weren't such a ''colossal'' ponce."]], from the BBV Audio Plays, and Godfather Avatar from ''Of The City Of The Saved''[[hottip:* :"Get the ''fuck'' out of my room!" "[[DeadpanSnarker Ah, yes. The fuck. I shall remove it forthwith.]]"]]. ([[SincerityMode Seriously,]] [[GushingAboutCharactersYouLike these two guys are worth the price of admission alone!]])

A twentysomething-ish futures trader who joins the Eighth Doctor in the 21st Century. To date, the only companion of Asian descent. Her first book is ''[[SoBadItsHorrible Escape Velocity]]'', although due to {{Discontinuity}} it is often jokingly said to have been ''[=EarthWorld=]''.

* VillainDecay: He's still a compelling, likable character despite all the more-powerful villains mocking him for being gullible, the Doctor just generally [[IShallTauntYou mocking him]] and [[FriendlyEnemy trying to be friends with him]], the bit where he takes his MoralityPet [[PetTheDog to the zoo]], the FridgeLogic inherent in the fact all his {{Mook}}s are apes[hottip:*:He must spend half his time trying to stop his mooks from climbing things and crapping everywhere]], his apparent inability to pick a pseudonym that doesn't have to do with holidays or days of the week, etc. It's just that he reaches a point of being no more menacing than any other character.

* KavorkaMan: His kavorka powers seem to work on {{narrator}}s just as well as on attractive women, considering the poor narrator's [[ItMakesJustAsMuchSenseInContext three-paragraph]] tortured attempts to make him sound good-looking upon his introduction:

* FoeYay: Well, kind of. [[PungeonMaster The Doctor]] mostly just thinks it's hilarious that Sabbath literally "stole his heart", but there is occasionally some legitimate sexual tension.
** ''Occasionally''? Lloyd Rose's ''Camera Obscura'' and parts of Justin Richards' ''Sometime Never...'' are absolutely full of subtext. In the former, all the Doctor's attempts to "annoy" Sabbath are pretty much [[BelligerentSexualTension pigtail-pulling and flirting]].

* KavorkaMan: Apparently, everyone wants the evil fat guy with the bad haircut! Perhaps his [[BadassBaritone extremely deep voice]] gives him AudioErotica points?

* SteamPunk: He built a time-traveling boat sort of thing in the 18th Century. [[AwesomeButImpractical It doesn't work too well, though.]]

* {{Backstory}}: Fitz's backstory is elaborated on often throughout the series and is tropetastic. Let's just take this from his birth to his introduction into the storyline:

Another companion, introduced in ''[[SoOkayItsAverage The Taint]]''. He was born in 1936 to a German father and an English mother in London, which, for [[WorldWarII obvious]] [[KidsAreCruel reasons]], made his childhood rather difficult. He met the Doctor in 1963, when he was 27. He plays the guitar. He's ''DoctorWho''[='s=] longest-running companion if the expanded universe is accounted for, and was in a BigFinish audio in Summer 2009.

* BiTheWay: Implied in his very first scene in the books. Mentioned in ''The Blue Angel'', when he admits via internal monologue that [[IfItsYouItsOkay he wants to sleep with the Doctor despite his gender]], and [[CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming flat out admits to loving him]] in ''Book of the Still''.

The one, [[TheNthDoctor the not-so-only]]. The Doctor received a lot of CharacterDevelopment throughout the [=EDAs=], making him a much more complicated person than he was in the [=TVM=].
