* AllWorkVsAllPlay: Edd is All Work to Ed and Eddy's All Play.
* AntiVillain: Most of the time they want to make money, no matter the means. However Ed and Edd are [[SlidingScaleOfAntiVillains Villains in Name Only]], since they are {{nice guy}}s and have a stronger moral code than some of the characters, especially Edd. Eddy turns out to be a Woobie Anti-Villain in the movie.
* AuthorAvatar: As Danny Antonucci stated in an interview, each of the Eds are based on his different personality aspects.
* BigThinShortTrio: Ed, Edd, and Eddy, respectively.
* ButtMonkey: Almost everyone on the show hates them, they are constantly humiliated from their attempts to earn respect from their peers and doomed to fail at every money-making venture they've ever made. The one who brings it upon themself the most, however, is Eddy.
* CharacterTitle: ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin. The show is called "Ed, Edd, N Eddy."

Ed lets himself get bullied by his sister, Double D hardly stands up for himself when he gets blamed for something or mistreated by his friends or neighbors, and Eddy ,despite being louder and more outspoken than the other two, almost never fights back when he's assaulted by the other characters (in the movie, Eddy is revealed to be this to his brother. He attempts to stay collected and calm while he's getting brutally beaten up, even when it's become clear to everyone that his brother's a vicious bully).
* {{Failure Hero}}es: Not only [[AmbitionIsEvil Eddy]] and his crew fail at their attempts to scam kids, they also completely fail at legitimate ventures or even completely innocent goals like gaining a little respect from their friends. The constant teasing and harassing of their {{Jerkass}} neighbors only rubs salt into the wound.
* FailureIsTheOnlyOption: All of the Eds' scams and efforts backfire in some form or another. Even if they get away with it, their rewards are usually either lost or destroyed.

** Judging by Edd's response, this may be the case to their reaction to seeing what's under his hat the second time.
* FightingTheLancer: Usually Eddy to Edd.
* {{Flanderization}}: All of their traits were exaggerated over time. Ed starts as being kinda-slow to being mentally handicapped, Edd starts off as a bit of a neat freak to going insane if he doesn't take a shower, and Eddy goes from being a tad jerky to being a full-blown {{Jerkass}}. However, this is inverted in the movie, as they go back to their original selves.

Thankfully averted in some episodes like "One Size Fits Ed", "Brother, Can You Spare An Ed, "A Case Of Ed", "Too Smart for His Own Ed" and "Truth or Ed".
* HeterosexualLifePartners: They are like brothers and rarely seen apart.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Their treatment of the Kankers in the episode "Nagged To Ed".
* IronButtMonkey: To a truly extraordinary extent. They attract all kinds of AmusingInjuries.
* KarmaHoudini: Ed's Mart from "A Glass of Warm Ed" is probably the Eds' most successful scam and one of the few they actually get away with. They also got off scot-free in "See No Ed", "Sir Ed-a-Lot", "Flea-Bitten Ed", "Rent-A-Ed", and "The Day the Ed Stood Still". But other than these, they CantGetAwayWithNuthin.
* LaserGuidedKarma: They get struck down by this nearly all the time.
* LethallyStupid: They cause chaos in the Cul de Sac, but never on purpose. Especially Ed.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch:
** Edd and Ed are this to Eddy. When Edd decides to leave Eddy for real in the movie, he shatters apart like glass, and [[TearJerker is genuinely crying for the first time in the series.]] Because of his brother's abuse coupled with the neighbor kids' neglect, they must really mean a lot to Eddy.
** All the three are this to each other. Edd is broken after thinking his friends are dead, and Ed's worst fear is the Eds falling apart.
* [[LonerTurnedFriend Loners Turned Friends]]: In TheMovie.
* MadeOfIron: These guys can really take a beating (and in fact, this trope applies to almost everyone else in this show). Edd, the weakest and most frail Ed, can survive having a house crush him at a toddler age. The only characters who doesn't apply to the above trope is Eddy's Brother (who is [[GlassCannon knocked-out cold by a flying iron door]]).
* NiceMeanAndInbetween: Edd (nice), Eddy (mean), and Ed (in-between). On occasion can switch to Ed (nice) and Edd (in-between), since Edd has been known to lose it a couple of times, and Ed doesn't have a malicious bone in his body. That is, unless there is a malicious rock in his shoe.
* NoGuyWantsToBeChased: The Kanker Sisters seem to inspire abject terror in the Eds due to their constant romantic pursuits. Ironically, in "A Twist of Ed", they seemed to enjoy being the ones doing the chasing, at least until it backfired on them.
* OddFriendship: Soo...why exactly are they friends? Eddy is a [[{{Narcissist}} narcissistic]] {{Jerkass}} who thinks he's superior to everyone else (which turns out to be InferioritySuperiorityComplex in TheMovie), Edd is an {{Adorkable}} NiceGuy, ShrinkingViolet and a NeatFreak while Ed is a LethallyStupid KindheartedSimpleton. You have to wonder why they get along so well...
* OnlyOneName: Like most characters (except Nazz and the Kankers) their last names are never revealed. Ed actually calls Eddy "Eddy [=McGee=]" in two different episodes ("My Fair Ed" and "Mission Ed-Possible"), but it's most likely just something made up by [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} Ed]] to use rhyming words and not Eddy's real last name
* ParentalNeglect: They are all implied to have neglectful parents.
** Ed's mother treats him as TheUnfavourite compared to his spoiled sister, who abuses him, and his father is largely apathetic to all this.
** In regards to Eddy, the movie reveals that his older brother has been physically abusing him, a twelve year old boy, for years, most likely during the entire time he lived with his parents. And while his parents may or may not know about this they certainly don't do a thing about it, instead constantly berating and punishing Eddy for his bad grades and behavior at school.
** And in regards to Edd, his parents communicate with him exclusively through Post-it notes and are hardly shown to be at home for Edd at all, meaning he's responsible for keeping a house clean

* PlotInducedStupidity: Most of the times the Eds' schemes end in terrible luck. Other times, it doesn't look like they're trying.

* RedOniBlueOni: As a trio, they are blue to Kankers' red. They rarely resort to violence and usually try to get money via cunning instead of brute force.

* ToxicFriendInfluence: A normal parent would encourage their children not to hang around a kid like Eddy, yet Ed and Edd still do. Edd is not affected by it though, since being the OnlySaneMan makes him refuse to cope with Eddy if he goes too far. Ed however, usually goes along with what Eddy says because he's too [[YesMan stupid to know right from wrong.]]
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Jawbreakers. Ed, meanwhile, also loves buttered toast and gravy.

It still shows however that they do care about him, as some of the notes are personal advices.
* ParentalNeglect: Zig-zagged. Unlike Ed and Eddy's parents, Edd's parents seem to be...rather hands-off. They mostly communicate to Edd via sticky notes and often neglect to tell him important things, like telling him they were getting their bathroom remodeled, leaving Double D with no access to a shower. It's implied he does almost all of the housework for them, too. On the other hand, the sticky notes are the most consistent communication shown between any parents and children in the series and at least Edd's mother seems in tune with his well-being since she packs him a special lunch to cheer him up in "Too Smart for his Own Ed".
** The sticky notes are apparently based on Antonucci's childhood. His parents worked a lot, being first generation immigrants, and would usually be gone when he woke up for school and didnt come home until after he went to bed, so they'd leave notes for him.
