* DivergentCharacterEvolution: From himself! When McGann resumed the role in 2001, his interpretation of the character and his creative input on the show's direction meant that the Doctor went from the passionately earnest version of the novels built on the TV film, to a more ironic and deadpan version. His very earliest adventures with Charley could conceivably be the same man (and indeed featured many of the same writers). The Eighth Doctor by ''Night of the Doctor'' is ''very'' different.

* TheFogOfAges: The Eighth Doctor has a ''very'' long life, even discounting his six centuries on Orbis and, as a result, his memory starts to get a bit fuzzy as he comes closer to the Time War. In "Lies in Ruins", he introduces himself to Bernice Summerfied, having apparently forgotten who she is and all the adventures they had together. At the end of that story, River Song doesn't even bother erasing his memory as she normally would, with no adverse affect on the timelines.

* BroughtDownToNormal: During "Stranded", while the Doctor is still a Time Lord, he has no TARDIS, no sonic screwdriver, and no psychic paper, and is stuck living a regular life with frustratingly limited social skills now that he isn't dealing with the imminent alien threat.

** While technically not ''his'' failure, the events of ''Genesis of the Daleks'' (more specifically the fact his Fourth incarnation ultimately decided not to kill the Daleks) get brought up alot in ''Dark Eyes" because [[spoiler: the Time Lords are actively trying to wipe the Daleks from existence again, only without getting the Doctor involved this time and using more dubious and extreme methods.]]

Added DiffLines:

* NoSocialSkills: Reinforced in "Stranded", when the Doctor is stuck in London 2020 after the TARDIS suffers serious damage; his companions explicitly note that without an alien menace to stop, the Doctor comes across as antisocial and reclusive without any apparent interest in his neighbours.

Notably, he was the Doctor who shattered the NoHuggingNoKissing policy forever, happily snogging his companions just because he wanted to. He also claimed to be half-human, which was either ignored or denied in later stories. \n Alas, TV audiences only knew him for a single night, owing to neither BBC nor Fox being interested in turning the TV movie into a full revival of the series despite it doing quite well in the franchise's native UK (Fox lost interest because the film flopped in America-- for whom it was directed-- though for whatever reason its British success didn't faze the BBC).
