* AgeGapRomance: PlayedForLaughs and implied. In one episode, Old Woman Spring tells the School Gang Leader that he would marry the first girl who appears in the crystal ball, which was Kinoko. When he asked her to marry him, Kinoko shows a flattered face, although he's at least ten years older than her.

* InexplicablyIdenticalIndividuals: Polly looks and acts like a more tomboyish version of Midori in the original series. Same physical appearance, though the anime makes Polly's hair slighly darker.

* HeroicWannabe: The whole point of the character. He has no sense of justice and does nothing other than throw grenades at whoever gets in his way or dares to "disrespect" him. He's more a nuisance than anything else.

** To Arale. Abale is a "bad girl" with a rebellious, sarcastic and somewhat rude attitude, but beyond that she doesn't really do anything wrong or get into trouble, and inadvertently she ends up saving the earth from an alien invasion. Whereas Arale is a pure-hearted, kind and loving girl, but she constantly gets into trouble due to her naivety and ends up unintentionally destroying things.
** To Obotchaman. Both are robots created to destroy Arale, but while Obotchaman was attentive, meek and followed exactly the orders of his creator, Abale is rebellious, rude and doesn't give a damn what her creator says.
