Apparently, Edgar F. Carrol was more like a BigBadWannabe in the end.

Even when he knows that the AI is human enough to consider him "her father", that doesn't stop Westcott from programming her to watch the Ratatoskr by hacking its program, despite knowing that she will very likely fail.]]

** In the non-canon Chinese game, ''Spirit Pledge'', continues in the route. Despite never coming into contact with the protagonists and the Spirits, it's the DEM Industries that is sending waves and waves of enemies at the player. Apparently, the DEM in this world has even more power than in its original universe, because not only the DEM Wizards comes after you but Wizards of AST, drones of the Japanese government.

* CardCarryingVillain: Subverted. While many people thought his plans was actually to cause much destruction and death as possible, the Volume 17 introduced him as a [[KnightTemplar delusional villain]] rather than a classic villain who enjoys causing pain. Over the course of the story, Westcott displayed it once when he ordered [[AttentionWhore Jessica Bailey]] and her squad of Wizards and Bandersnatchs to kill every single teenage watching the stage of [[PsychoLesbian Miku Izayoi]] and Shido and his friends just to give a [[WouldBeRudeToSayGenocide "slap"]] on the face of Ratatoskr as a "hell of greeting".

* DrivenToVillainy: Horrifyingly. Volume 18 reveals that Westcott was a normal person with a kind and soft heart, possibly even kinder than Shido Itsuka until a group of humans attacked his peaceful village, and he began to believe that the entire human race is evil and monstrous and deserves to be destroyed for the greater good of the mages. At first, he planned to destroy the humans to create a new peaceful environment for the mages. But soon, his mind got even more corrupted by his own {{Greed}} for the Inverse Spirits' power and had a change of plans; to [[AGodAmI become the God of his new world to rule over all creation]].

* AGodAmI: He constantly [[InvokedTrope invokes]] his so-called "dearest wishes" by attaining godlike power from Inverse Spirits as part of his plan to rewrite the world, after which he'd declare himself as the new world's "[[CardCarryingVillain evil]]". Finally achieves this in Volume 19 when he [[spoiler:becomes the Second Spirit of Origin]].

* NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist: He claims that he wants to purge the world of mankind for being a cruel and failed race to create a world where mages will rule in peace without wars, conflicts and fights with humans. Curiously, over the series, Westcott showed to be even more sinister and cruel by unleashing all kind of disgusting and brutal crimes that humans can evoke upon the world. Not to mention that Westcott is willing to use even the members of his own race as pawns just like he do to humans, manipulating and discarding them like garbage just like he always did. He also seems to be more focused in becoming an Inverse Spirit to give him powers of a [[AGodAmI God]] to rule the world and change the concept of life and creation according to his own image, thus ruling over reality like its new God.

* HateSink: Antagonists like the AST and Kurumi commit questionable acts in the story, but end up relegated to the background or are revealed to be justified in their actions, [[WellIntentionedExtremist however extreme they are]]. This man, on the other hand, actively cultivates the image of someone who wants to be as evil as possible, starting with his total lack of care for his own subordinates (far from being saints themselves), then his plans for creating what amounts to dystopia. Every single one of his appearances is taken seriously, and he has ordered multiple KickTheDog moments since his introduction.

* CombatSadomasochist: Unlike Ellen who hates feeling pain, Westcott is a complete sadomasoquist who enjoys causing all kinds of pain in his enemy while also at the same time seems to love being hurt emotionally and physically. Thanks to his obsession with sorrow and despair, he enjoys hurting people as well as getting his ass kicked.

* EvilSorcerer: Played with. Westcott was born in a peaceful village of mages, people who can use magic and it's stated that is a brilliant magician. However, he is pratically never shown using magic.

If Westcott had not caused the destruction of China and Eurasia with the summoning of the First Spirit, Tohka, Yoshino, Kurumi and many other Spirits who appears on the series would have never existed and they would have been raised as normal humans, given their background where all Spirits were humans once with the exception of[[spoiler: Mio Takamiya]], also known as [[spoiler: the First Spirit]]. It was also Westcott's atrocity in [[WouldHurtAChild kidnapping Mana]] who lead [[TheHeroDies Shido to his first death]]. As soon as Shido refused to give Mio to him, Westcott [[KickTheDog shot him]] and killed him right in front of Mio, resulting in the Spirit "eating" Shido to give [[DeathIsCheap birth to him again]] in her womb in an attempt to [[{{Revival}} revive him]]; this resulted in Shido being [[CameBackStrong reborn as a Spirit]] able to seal the power of other Spirits. Without Westcott's corruption, [[BigGood Elliot]] and Karen would have never created Ratatoskr, the main heroic faction of the series that has been around since from Volume 1, helping Shido and saving all Spirits from DEM's threat. He is also this one for [[UnwittingPawn Mana Takamiya]]. If Westcott decided to kill Mana years ago, she would have never existed in the series and consequently she would never have saved Origami and the SSS Wizards from Minerva Liddell. Not to mention that without Mana, with the powers of an Adeptus Wizard given by Westcott, she would have never saved Shido from Kurumi Tokisaki and many of DEM's minions.

At the same moment, when the Spirits inverted at the same time, the whole city of Tenguu was destroyed and soon the [[TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt entire world was going to end in a storm of darkness]]. However, it was useless. Kurumi Tokisaki returned to the past and undone that disturbing future... Despite he never showed any negative feelings towards Kurumi, he was clearly ''[[VillainousBreakdown pissed off]]'' with her for undoing the futures where he is the victorious ''twice''. This time, Westcott took the fight to Kurumi Tokisaki and to make sure she will never do that again he dispatched his entire armada of tens thousands of soldiers, slaves and drones to make sure he will kill Shido and Kurumi ''for good''.

* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill: He dispatched his entire armada of tens thousands of Wizards and droids to Tenguu City only to kill Shido Itsuka and Kurumi Tokisaki. He even ordered his forces to shoot down all civilians of the town in sight just to make Shido leave from his hiding place.

* RedBaron: His Demon King, Beelzebub, is described as "Tome of Divine Corruption", and when he becomes the Second Spirit of Origin, his three Demon Kings: Athiel, Belial, and Qemetiel are described as "Veils of Reverse Negative Existence".
