Changed line(s) 8,15 (click to see context) from:
* Herioc Mime: He is the first of Infinity Ward's player characters to avert this and the Fourth (after David Mason, Jack Mitchell and the Black Ops III Player Character) COD protagonist to avert this throughout the entirety of his campaign.
* Heroic Sacrifice: Twice. The first time he orders the Retribution to escape the attacking Olympus Mons despite knowing that it will doom him to a slow, grim death in space over Saturn's moon, Titan. {{He isn't so lucky the second time and ends up suffering that grim space death after his suit is breached when he orders the Retribution to fire on the SDF spaceport that he is on at the end of the game, destroying it and their fleet building ability at the cost of his own life.}}
[[* The Hero Dies: Ultimately, he is killed at the very end of the campaign when he orders his Lancer, Salter, and the Retribution to fire on the Shipyard that he is on, breaching his suit and exposing him to space, killing him.]]
* Reality Ensues: A man with an overwhelmingly protective instinct towards his men isn't such a good Commander when he prioritizes their lives above the mission success. It nearly costs them victory in the war. {{Also, as Salter says after one mission, after all the shit that he miraculously survives throughout the story, eventually, his luck finally runs out at the end.}}
* Red Oni, Blue Oni: He is the blue to Salter's red. Her comments on disrespecting Raines, wanting to go after Omar and torture Riah along with her insubordination report that can be read in the Captain's quarters on the Retribution make her seem like a very clear hothead compared to Reyes who advocates respecting the Admiral and Omar and going into the real fight rather than going after one man.
* The Stoic: There's roughly three points in the entire game when his face changes from his standard stone look...{{when Omar dies and Salt refuses to go back for him, when the Olympus Mons destroys the HQ and kills Raines and when Ethan dies.}}
* Tempting Fate: Near the beginning of the game, one of the first things the player does after taking control of him is walk past a SATO memorial wall where he and Salter make some comments about not ending up on it. {{By the end of the game, he ends up on it.}}
* True Companions: He and Salter seem to be this even before the events of the game. Having served together for at least ten years, this comes as no surprise.
