Added DiffLines:

* MoreDakka: given the weapons that she's used, Yorktown might actually go into combat with a pair of lever-action shotguns, a pair of high-caliber magnum revolvers, and a high-caliber sniper rifle.

** in chapter 294, gives one to VideoGame/RedDeadRevolver with her ability "Red Dead Revolvers", one to VideoGame/KillingFloor2 for her fancy reload sequence with her dual revolvers, and one to VideoGame/{{Overwatch}} for her BondOneLiner of "Like shootin' fish in a barrel, that was."

Added DiffLines:

* {{BFG}}: lugs an M-249 Squad Automatic Weapon into combat as her primary firearm.

Added DiffLines:

* GunsAkimbo: at one point during their package recovery mission in chapter 294, New Jersey jumps into the second floor of a barn to clear it of hostiles and enters with her SPAS-12 in one hand and her Desert Eagle in the other.
* {{Handcannon}}: she has a customized Desert Eagle that sports an ornate gold dragon design along its slide, and the narrative also calls it the Black Dragon, the same as J's nickname.

Added DiffLines:

* OddFriendship: with Suzukaze, to people who don't know their relationship. Indeed, it would be a little odd to the Japanese ship girls to see an American battleship get along so well with a Japanese destroyer.
* PlayingWithFire: she's specifically mentioned to carry Dragon's Breath shells into battle for use with her SPAS-12.
* ShotgunsAreJustBetter: uses a SPAS-12 semi-automatic shotgun as her secondary firearm.

* StoneWall: becomes this in chapter 294, when she stands in front of an incoming train and brings it to a halt with her bare hands. Granted, Iris had already put on the emergency brake, but still.

* FriendlySniper: loud and full of good cheer, and also toting a long-range DMR.

* ColdSniper: she's not seen interacting much with anyone, and the most she's ever seen talking is with Taihou while they're marching through the rain towards Nashville. That doesn't necessarily mean she herself is cold and aloof, however.
* HiddenDepths: as mentioned in her conversation with Taihou, her one wish is to bring all of the "Phoenix" carriers together - in other words, all carriers whose names have the "hou" syllable in their names (meaning or alluding to the phoenix in Japanese).
* LampshadeHanging: like a few other ship girls who've given their own existences some thought, Shouhou too wonders why girls like them were constructed when current technology could produce much more sophisticated weapons like her own support rifle.

to:

* {{Reincarnation}}: discusses the concept of karmic reincarnation with Taihou in chapter 91.
* StartXToStopX: implies this in her conversation with Taihou in chapter 91, that she's willing to fight for a more peaceful world.

* {{BFG}}: she receives Damon's DSR-50 sniper rifle when she joins the fleet as her primary firearm - which she still uses.

to:

* {{BFG}}: she receives Damon's DSR-50 sniper rifle when she joins the fleet as her primary firearm - [[WeaponOfChoice which she still uses.]]

* FriendlySniper: maybe to the rest of her fleet, but not as much towards her own Admiral.

* FriendlySniper: semi-automatic sniper rifles and a lively Kansai accent? Sure is.

* FriendlySniper: probably more so this than Kaga is.

* MyGreatestFailure: [[spoiler:two of them, but one in each life: Midway as a carrier, and Damon's death as a ship girl. This is why she has the Regicide passive debuff that nukes her Charisma stat and dampens her EXP gain rates whenever she fights with Damon.]]

Added DiffLines:

!!Taihou

* AutomaticCrossbows: a modified version of her canon crossbow, her Kage no Tsume handheld crossbow lets her wield it with just one hand, with a modified three-bolt magazine that feeds underneath instead of being a top-loader like her canon one (because there's a variable scope fitted on the rail). It can even be outfitted with a bayonet, seeing its {{Shoutout}}.
* BornUnlucky: subverted...somewhat. She suffers the fate of being captured and taken command of by the Coalition factions, which is already a bad start according to the story's standards, but there are definitely worse things that could have happened to her, given her circumstances. Her strong mental fortitude and steadfastness help too.
* CentipedesDilemma: warns Shouhou not to think too hard about why they were brought back as ship girls and simply settle for the hope that they were constructed with a purpose.
--> Taihou: "Think too hard, and you'll lose."
* HiddenDepths: similar to Shouhou's wish of bringing all the phoenix carriers together, she wants to bring ''all'' Japanese carriers together into one fleet.
* FriendlySniper: courteous, polite, and determined, wielding the Intervention sniper rifle, perhaps a {{Shoutout}} to the Intervention featured in VideoGame/CallOfDutyModernWarfare2.
* JackOfAllStats: averted. In the story, she's got great defense, high intelligence, and higher than average speed and charisma. Really her only bad stats are her attack and her cost, but attack isn't so necessary on carriers based on their combat styles (they're still incredibly strong due to their base strengths), and the cost is a NecessaryDrawback for carriers. In addition, her armor is the highest for all carriers due to her nature as an armored carrier in RealLife, but lower than average health in exchange.
* MortonsFork: gives a hypothetical one to Shouhou, asking her which she would choose if she were offered either her carrier comrades and world peace.
* NervesOfSteel: her Steadfast passive ability helps keep her friends collected in combat with a 25% decreased fatigue gain rate and an additional +25% to shelling accuracy.
* TheReliableOne: being one of the ship girls in Charlotte, she took it upon herself to look after her fellow ship girls wherever she could and never got bogged down from their oppressed positions.
* {{Shoutout}}: her Kage no Tsume handheld crossbow is one to the NX Shadowclaw in VideoGame/CallOfDutyBlackOps3.
* SingleIssuePsychology: averted; she's yet to make a concerned remark regarding ignitable gas and self-inflicted explosions.
* WeaponOfChoice: since the day she joined the fleet, Taihou has received and used the [[http://www.cheytac.com/shop/firearms/m200-intervention/ Cheytac M-200 Intervention Carbine]] as her primary firearm. Even through the fleet equipment overhaul in chapter 285, she has stayed loyal to the rifle and kept it.

Added DiffLines:

* FragileSpeedster: subverted - not only is she fast, but her defense is actually quite high - a 12, even. But because of her carrier status, particularly that of being the oldest carrier in the story, she only has 500 armor points and 1300 health points, which is very easily light cruiser-tier.

* AllohistoricalAllusion: the story makes a point to portray Takao, Amagi, Kaga, and Akagi all together, because in RealLife, when they were being laid down and constructed, Amagi was meant to be a battleship along with the aforementioned and would have been true ship sisters with them all, had it not been for the Kanto Earthquake and the Washington Treaty, so these four, because of their historical hat-if relationships, treat each other on the level of ship sisters. She is especially close with Akagi.

* AdaptationPersonalityChange: she takes her failure at Midway [[spoiler:and her role in Damon's first death]] pretty hard.
* AllohistoricalAllusion: the story makes a point to portray Takao, Amagi, Kaga, and Akagi all together, because in RealLife, when they were being laid down and constructed, Akagi was meant to be a battleship along with the aforementioned and would have been true ship sisters with them all, had it not been for the Kanto Earthquake and the Washington Treaty, so these four, because of their historical what-if relationships, treat each other on the level of ship sisters. Akagi is particularly close with Amagi, because they specifically were intended to be ship sisters.
* BigEater: its {{Flanderization}} is averted; the story doesn't point out any peculiar eating habits that sets her apart from the rest of the capital ship girls, who all eat more than the average human and more than the other ship girls in the fleet, for that matter.
* LukeIAmYourFather: inverted - not only was she not aware of Graf Zeppelin's existence, but Graf is the one who tells her that she is her daughter. Naturally, this triggers Kaga more than just a bit.
* SingleIssuePsychology: subverted from the 4koma - she doesn't turn into a quivering wreck, per se, but she doesn't think fondly of it at all. It still remains one of her main regrets from her past life.
* ThoseTwoGirls: with either Kaga or Amagi, once she joins the fleet. More often than time, it's all three of them together, but then [[DefiedTrope that wouldn't fit this trope.]] With Kaga, she gets minor combat bonuses when deployed together.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: subverted, along with her flanderized BigEater tendencies. Presumably she still likes bauxite, but that can't be avoided due to her nature as a carrier.

* OlderThanTheyLook: She is the oldest ship in the Combined Fleet, even older than the World War I-era Kongous, Orions and Tenryuus, but doesn't look much older than even those.

to:

* AffectionateNickname: the British ship girls call her Leslie, a shortened version of her original English name, Lethington.
* AlternateUniverse: has the "Alternative" passive ability that grants all friendly carriers very good peripheral and plane bonuses.
* {{BFG}}: gets one of her own to fit in with the other carriers, an [[http://www.accuracyinternational.us/ax50-rifle-system/ AI AX-50.]]
* HistoricalInJoke: before they deploy to the Mediterranean, Wakamiya exchanges a few words with Warspite. Despite having never met each other in RealLife, as ship girls with complete historical knowledge of themselves and others, they both profess to admire one another for their historical legacies.
* MagicStaff: a twist on the trope: instead of a true ''magic'' staff, Wakamiya uses one that's loaded with miniature planes inside and can launch them. And a few details of her combat shows her wielding her staff like a melee weapon too.
* MechanicallyUnusualFighter: Wakamiya is the only carrier whose plane launching technique is completely unique: instead of using a crossbow as a launching platform or the onmyodo techniques used by Hiyou, Jun'you, and Ryuujou, she ejects a plane out of the bottom of her staff, sets it against the water, and launches it by swinging it like a golf club. The way she loads up intact planes is unique as well: since she has no flight deck like other carriers do, her planes return to her and miniaturize themselves to land on the water itself or fly into Wakamiya's hand, and she loads them back into her staff by hand.
* MysteriousPast: in a fleet whose carriers mostly hail from the Second World War, Wakamiya, the carrier who launched the world's first naval air raids, is a walking mystery.
* OlderThanTheyLook: She is the oldest ship in the Combined Fleet, even older than the World War I-era Kongous, Orions and Tenryuus, but doesn't look she appears to be around the same age as everyone else.
* {{Shoutout}}: Wakamiya's design is loosely based on [[https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/1682056?tags=kantai_collection+wakamiya_%28kantai_collection%29 ikeron's Wakamiya.]]
* TwoFirstNames: she interchangeably goes by two names, Wakamiya (for Japanese ship girls) and Lethington (or Leslie, for British ship girls).

* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler:Zuikaku has died twice thus far in the story: first during Operation Atlanta, when the falling skyscraper drops right on top of her and almost decapitates her with falling debris, and second at the hands of her own Abyssalized sister, who shoots her with her Abyssal sniper rifle and forces her to bleed out.]]
* BerserkButton: just lik in canon, Zuikaku really doesn't like being called a turkey, and quite a few ship girls warn Damon not to make this mistake.
* {{BFG}}: she receives Damon's DSR-50 sniper rifle when she joins the fleet as her primary firearm - which she still uses.
* BigSisterWorship: like Chiyoda, Zuikaku is penalized for this with the Obsessive passive debuff. This is also what leads to her ConflictingLoyalty to the fleet and to her sister.
* BoisterousBruiser: averted from the game. See CursedWithAwesome below.
* CainAndAbel: [[spoiler:during the Germany campaign, Zuikaku is sent with the submarines and a small team of ship girls to investigate an odd factory along northern Germany, in the town of Greifswald, where she confronts Shoukaku, who's been fully Abyssalized into Water Demon. After a brief exchange of words, Shoukaku fatally wounds Zuikaku with a shot from her Abyssalized TAC-50 sniper rifle, and Zuikaku consequently bleeds to death on their way back to Berlin.]]
* ConflictingLoyalty: always has a tough time deciding between taking care of her sister Shoukaku or fighting for the fleet's needs and interests.
* CursedWithAwesome: Zuikaku considers her luck to be this because in her past life as a warship and her current, she always seems to dodge strokes of bad luck (conveniently ignoring the fact that she's died twice already in the story so far) and wishes she could at least take some of the misfortune her sister always seem to be struck with off her.
* DeflectorShields: gains one as the result of her Kai remodel.
* JustAKid: averted from the game. Kaga does not treat either her or her sister Shoukaku like she does in fanworks or canon and treats them at the very least as her fellow carrier fleetmates, even as her equals if she's feeling generous.
* LiteralistSnarking: ends up on the receiving end of this when she tells Damon to bite her. Which is exactly what Damon tries to do.
* RantInducingSlight: accidentally triggers one in Haruna of all people when Zuikaku laments the futility of their efforts during the Battle of the English Channel.
* {{Shoutout}}: when she [[spoiler:fights the Re-Class near Cape Canaveral]], she uses palm strikes as her martial arts style for close-quarters combat, and one of her attacks is the [[VideoGame/StreetFighterV Myou'ou-Ken.]]
* ThirdPersonPerson: averted, she's yet to address herself as "Zuikaku" in the story.
* ThoseTwoGirls: with Shoukaku. They're hardly ever portrayed apart from each other if they're both in the fleet at the same time.
* {{Tsundere}}: averted from the anime; Zuikaku actually gets along pretty well with Kaga, and the normal antagonism between them that's present in the vast majority of fanworks is noticeably absent. However, she ''may'' be this towards Damon, her Admiral, but it's still rather unclear.

Added DiffLines:

* ACupAngst: averted; she doesn't spend all day lamenting the flatness of her chest.
* KansaiRegionalAccent: in the story, this is translated into a Southern accent whenever Ryuujou speaks English. Which, given how her situation turned out before she joined Damon's fleet, [[GoneHorriblyRight worked out pretty damn well in her favor.]]
* PetitePride: maintained in the story, though she isn't over the top with it. Instead of getting triggered by big boobs, she takes the high road and gives herself self-respect for her own chest size.
* PlayingWithFire: seen doing this with Jeannie shortly after she gains her YRC power with Damon, being the first carrier to do so, though it's not yet mentioned just what her power(s) is/are exactly.
* PowerGlows: Hiyou, Jun'you, and Ryuujou retain their canon ability to control shikigami as their primary means of deploying their planes, with the power aura that their hands emit when doing so.
* PunchParry: she, Jun'you, and Hiyou can perform a "Special Parry" according to their entries in the stat sheet with their shikigami aura that allows them to parry more effectively than other ship girls. Of course, this extends to ParryingBullets as well.
* StandardStatusEffects: she, Hiyou, and Jun'you can inflict agility and reflex penalties onto enemies they hit with their fists while they have their shikigami aura active.
* VeteranUnit: is part of the exclusive club of ship girls who have the passive ability "Reality Veteran", and Ryuujou qualifies to be part of it due to her work as a Nashville armory supervisor during her time with the Harpers as a Coalition ship girl.

* {{Foil}}: to Jun'you, as in the game. The relationship between Hiyou and Jun'you is the only relationship that this story seems to like blowing out of proportion.
* HiddenDepths: it's implied that she does want to return to a career serving aboard a luxury liner just like her canon self, but this is HarsherInHindsight territory.
* {{Ojou}}: possesses the Patrician ability like Kumano.
* OutDamnedSpot: in her Fleet Log in chapter 134, she feels that her military career will have tarnished her desired civilian career aboard a luxury liner to the point where that civilian career path just won't be viable anymore.
* PowerGlows: Hiyou, Jun'you, and Ryuujou retain their canon ability to control shikigami as their primary means of deploying their planes, with the power aura that their hands emit when doing so.

* TheSmartGuy: with a 9 in intelligence and when compared to her sister Jun'you.
* SuplexFinisher: in chapter 283, when Jun'you flips off Aoba's camera while the fleet is taking a funny group photo, Hiyou sees this and immediately suplexes her so hard that [[UpToEleven she plants her sister into the ground.]]
* {{Shoutout}}: her suplex onto Jun'you harkens to Zangief's Critical Art in VideoGame/StreetFighterV, in which she buries Jun'you's head into the mansion lawn with how strong her suplex is.
* StandardStatusEffects: she, Jun'you, and Ryuujou can inflict agility and reflex penalties onto enemies they hit with their fists while they have their shikigami aura active.
* VeteranUnit: has buffs to her Charisma and Negotiation, along with reduced insanity and fatigue gain rates due to her experience working in Nashville.

Added DiffLines:

* BornLucky: averted in this story: she's found working as a bartender in Charlotte, one of the Coalition factions that ends up sending ship girls to fight against the Combined Fleet. All things considered, though, [[HarsherInHindsight this is still a lot better than what her friends went through.]]
* HardDrinkingPartyGirl: very much so maintained in the story - she's found working as a bartender (though that wasn't really ''her'' choice) when Damon's fleet finds her in Charlotte, and it's even listed as a passive ability that grants very specific bonuses for herself and her allies in combat. When they're on vacation in New Chicago, she's implied to be drinking a lot during that time, though she doesn't seem to make a mess of herself ''all'' the time. But this isn't the full story...
* HiddenDepths: in her Fleet Log, Jun'you admits to alcoholism. She's saying this as a ship girl, whose bodies are inherently built to be resistant to many things that human bodies are susceptible to. Now how much alcohol would ''that'' take?
* PowerGlows: Hiyou, Jun'you, and Ryuujou retain their canon ability to control shikigami as their primary means of deploying their planes, with the power aura that their hands emit when doing so.
* PunchParry: she, Hiyou, and Ryuujou can perform a "Special Parry" according to their entries in the stat sheet with their shikigami aura that allows them to parry more effectively than other ship girls. Of course, this extends to ParryingBullets as well.
* StandardStatusEffects: she, HIyou, and Ryuujou can inflict agility and reflex penalties onto enemies they hit with their fists while they have their shikigami aura active.
* TakeThat: if you look at Jun'you's Bartender passive ability, if you read the requirements for its last listed buff, it goes as follows:
--> ...requires good booze, not shit American pisswater. [[ComicallyMissingThePoint Please drink responsibly.]]
* VerbalTic: subverted; she does say her trademark "Hyahaa~" a few times, but not enough to make it memetic.

Added DiffLines:

* CompositeCharacter: oddly enough, the story only calls Chitose and Chiyoda seaplane tenders by name and considers them light carriers for its "gameplay" purposes. They're even armed with the same Izanami Crossbows that regular carriers use.

Added DiffLines:

* BoisterousBruiser: averted, she has ''never'' bragged about anything, much less about her own planes.
* CoolBigSis: maintained in this story, she fights with Chiyoda in all fleet operations that they've participated in so far, though she doesn't have a passive ability like other lead ship girls do to cement it.
* {{Determinator}}: one of the most prominent examples in the fleet, given her backstory in the story. Accordingly, she has a huge 13 in endurance, and her Will rating is the highest of any ship girl in the fleet at a staggering 150%.
* DopeSlap: gives one to her sister Chiyoda when the latter gets slightly more enthusiastic about an Admiral change than she ought to be.
* FriendlySniper: kind, patient, and wields an H&K MSG-90. She's even got a passive ability called Sniper Specialist that gives her bonuses for using a sniper rifle and getting kills with it. [[FridgeLogic It's almost as if patience is a good thing for good snipers to have...]]
* HardDrinkingPartyGirl: averted, there's no mention of Chitose's tendency to drink. Then again, there's no reason why she couldn't just because the story doesn't explicitly mention it.
* ObliviousToLove: averted; she's very much aware of her sister's affection in the story. After Orlando, she better be.
* {{Shoutout}}: a very subtle one, but in her entry in the stat sheet, her passive ability "Saint" has a description that goes:
--> [[VideoGame/DarkestDungeon Her will has been tested, and she has succeeded.]]
* SiblingYinYang: guess what Chiyoda's like.
* TurnTheOtherCheek: she was selected as Orlando's "victim" ship girl, [[spoiler:meaning she suffered all four of her limbs being broken so that the controller of the city could use her as a hostage.]] Not only does she emerge from her ordeal so mentally intact that she could easily pretend nothing happened to her at all, but she doesn't even harbor any ill intent towards the Orlandians. This is cemented as a passive ability called Saint that is unique to her and gives very powerful psychological bonuses to her and allows one ally to convert his or her entire insanity gauge into a temporary attribute bonus for Bullet Accuracy and Shell Accuracy.

Added DiffLines:

* ATeamFiring: it's not that her aim is bad, but her sniper motto is to suppress the enemy with generous volumes of sniper fire. Her passive debuff is even called [[ImperialStormtrooperMarksmanshipAcademy Stormtrooper]]. [[FridgeLogic Maybe it's because of her lack of patience that makes her want to shoot so much...]]
* BerserkButton: like some other ship girls, she's got a problem with Americans, though given what happened to her sister and her comrades at the hands of the Coalition, this can be excused to a degree. This comes to be a minor problem when she interacts with Damon, as she doesn't approve of him due to his status as an American.
* BigSisterWorship: while it's not as pronounced as it is in canon, Chiyoda is nonetheless still quite fond of her sister. After Orlando, it's hard to fault her for it, but she still gets penalized for this with her passive debuff Obsessive.
* DopeSlap: gets one from her sister Chitose after she gets a little bit more excited than she should get after considering a possible switch from an American Admiral to a Japanese one.
* FragileFlower: surprisingly subverted; she certainly takes her time in Orlando quite badly, but she gets over it quickly once Chitose gets repaired at the fleet base at MAPS.
* GreenEyedMonster: averted...for now, perhaps only because of the fact that Chitose isn't romantically interested in Damon.
* SiblingYinYang: she makes her sister really look like a saint. Plus, their sniper doctrines are polar opposites: Chitose is careful and makes each of her shots count, while Chiyoda just spams her sniper rifle to suppress enemies.

Added DiffLines:

* MechanicallyUnusualFighter: a twist of this trope, but Shouhou uses a MK-12 MOD 0 SPR rifle as her assigned firearm, a squad support rifle that fires standard NATO STANAG rounds, as opposed to the rest of the carriers in the fleet, who all fire higher caliber rounds, at least DMR NATO or above.

* AlternateUniverse: perhaps the meta reason why she was introduced into the story, before the canon Amagi came along. It's also the name of her passive ability, with which she gives Takao, Akagi, Atago (not yet found in the story), Kaga, and Tosa (also not yet found in the story) combat bonuses if they deploy together.
* AntiquatedLinguistics: ''the'' user of this in the fleet. She uses this when speaking both English and Japanese, but she's still readily understood.
* CompositeCharacter: the Amagi in this story was introduced [[HilariousInHindsight well before the canon Amagi]] was implemented into the game; as a result, the author seems to treat her design as a "what-if" scenario and even calls her a "Resurrected Battlecruiser", a title no other ship girl receives in their introduction narrations. And according to her physical description, she is supposed to look suspiciously similar to Akagi, most likely due to her AllohistoricalAllusion nature (and perhaps even similarity in names, but that is probably a stretch).
* {{Determinator}}: has a 15 in endurance and a 100% Will rating.
* FeminineWomenCanCook: she's often depicted cooking whenever cooking is a possible activity for the fleet, along with other battleships.
* MysteriousPast: she doesn't know how or why she was created, so the question of who also comes as no surprise. Given her AllohistoricalAllusion nature, this is somewhat understandable, but the questions that her presence brings cannot be ignored.
* MythologyGag: when the canon Amagi was finally implemented, the author had the fleet have a fashion show in Damon's mansion in New Chicago, in which Amagi was participating and wore a kimono that matches the one that the canon Amagi wears in her base form.
* NecessaryDrawback: has the highest amount of hit points in the entire story according to the stat sheet at a whopping 4000, but in exchange, Amagi has no armor points to speak of, meaning that all the damage that she takes will deal full damage every time, because she has no armor to reduce incoming damage.
* ThirdPersonPerson: averted, surprisingly. She does speak in a very archaic manner, as characterized by her distinct speech.
* UnorthodoxReload: during the Germany campaign, in the assault on the docks, Amagi accidentally drops a magazine of ammo for her DMR, so Haruna sees this and tosses one of her own over because they use the same rifles. Instead of catching the mag, Amagi gets creative and shoves her rifle receiver towards the flying magazine in such a way that the magazine clicks itself into the receiver in midair.
* YamatoNadeshiko: maintains this status in the story, even with the differences from the canon Amagi.

* IneffectualLoner: Damon finds out that she's very much so this when he talks to her at New Chicago. Erin explains that this is because historically, she felt isolated as a warship and didn't feel like she ever really interacted with other ships that much.

!Johnston

The ship girl incarnation of the U.S.S. ''Johnston'', DD-557.

* AffectionateNickname: both New Jersey and Haida call Johnston "Johnny", which, so far, she seems to accept or at least tolerate.
* AnAxeToGrind: not just one, mind you. She's described when she arrives at MAPS to join the fleet to be wearing an entire collection of them, including war hatchets, tomahawks, ''and'' combat axes. She takes this UpToEleven because she wears sets of them around her thighs like bandoliers.
* BadassNative: built with a much darker skin tone than the more fair-skinned Japanese or American ship girls, comparable to that of Musashi's, to reflect the Cherokee and Creek heritage of her wartime captain, Lt. Commander Ernest Edwin Evans. She also makes her appearance fully geared for war, and among her personal arsenal is a collection of not combat knives, but ''war hatchets and tomahawks.''
* {{Foreshadowing}}: at the end of chapter 266, the final segment depicts a short dialogue between two people, who are shortly joined by Eagle. Now that Haida and Johnston are introduced, those two people at the end of chapter 266 are none other than Haida and Johnston, judging by Haida's "eh" VerbalTic and Johnston's handling of a war hatchet.
* FriendlyEnemy: many of the Japanese warships Johnston faced during the Battle off Samar are indeed part of Damon's fleet, but the one who dares to approach her is none other than Kongou, who offers to show Johnston and Haida around the base. Funnily enough, Johnston doesn't recognize her when they meet in person, so Kongou has to remind her who she is (Kongou had shot Johnston with several shells but failed to sink her, because her armor-piercing shells, while they did cut Johnston's speed in half by passing through her engine room, failed to detonate on her armorless hull).
* GenderBlenderName: Johnston, and to an even greater extent, her nickname of Johnny. She doesn't seem to mind, though.
* MythologyGag: she first appeared over a year and a half prior to her introduction to this story in another Kantai Collection fanfic written by the same author, titled [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11109362/11/One-Shot-Fleet "Firebirds 3".]]
* OddFriendship: with Haida, because they had been built and activated at the same time by Lukenstor. She denies seeing her as a friend, but she still hangs around her during the fleet's beach day.
* RedBaron: in-story: when she arrives, Murakumo reveals that Johnston's last stand in the war immortalized her even among them as a legendary destroyer who dared to do - and did - the impossible. This is a reference to the fact that Johnston's survivors witnessed several Japanese officers paying their respects to Johnston as she sank by saluting. Though, the sudden and unexpected introduction of Johnston to the fleet cause a fair bit of awkwardness, as the Japanese ship girls could never have predicted Johnston being reincarnated again as a ship girl like themselves.
* {{Shoutout}}: her uniform is based on [[https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/1680610?tags=uss_johnston_(dd-557) u-tan (timerush90)'s Johnston design.]]
* TheStoic: she doesn't crack a single smile ever since joining the fleet, and she seems dead-serious all the time. She also shoots down the praise that Haida and New Jersey recite about her regarding her legendary last stand at Samar during the war, saying that duty was and continues to be her primary motivation to fight. On top of this, when she gets accused for trying to be humble, she shoots ''that'' down too, saying that humbleness has nothing to do with the willingness to serve her country.

* AnAxeToGrind: like Johnston, she also carries a war hatchet as part of her personal inventory to reflect her native attribute (she shares her name with a Native American tribe indigenous to the Pacific Northwest), though she only keeps one.
* BadassNative: subverted heavily; her appearance is that of a Caucasian teenager, but she does have a war hatchet as opposed to the military-standard combat knife as her bladed melee weapon.

And to top it all off, the war hatchet that acts as her bladed melee weapon that she has sports the letters "BLACK ICE" along its blade, the name of the DLC pack that introduced the JTF-2 operators into the game.

Added DiffLines:

* CainAndAbel: subverted; she almost ends up having to fight against Kongou during the London campaign, but they narrowly avoid having to do so.
* CatchPhrase: subverted heavily, you can count the number of times Haruna says that she's alright in the story with the fingers on one hand. Incidentally, it's also the name of her one passive ability...that allows everyone fighting around her to ignore any insanity gained upwards of 30%. Anything above that, however, and they will still suffer the entire penalty.
* HumbleHero: maintained in this story, most notably through the conversation that she has with Benjamin: she insists that Benjamin shouldn't abuse his position of power in the fleet as a fleet programmer in efforts to track down the missing Kongou-Class, Kirishima and Hiei.
* InformedAttribute: in the game, while Haruna never says this about herself, Kirishima notes that Haruna is just as intelligent as she is. This detail carries over into the story, as she possesses a [[TheSmartGuy strong intelligence rating of 11.]]
* LightningBruiser: just like her sister Kongou. Even though she is a lesser example of this, she still qualifies as a fast battlecruiser with powerful armaments, a fast speed rating of 8, and respectable armor and hit points at 1800 apiece.
* RantInducingSlight: reacts poorly to Zuikaku saying that their efforts are useless during the Battle of the English Channel.
* ShrinkingViolet: subverted; her shyness isn't exaggerated, per se, as it is in fanworks, but her reserved nature doesn't allow for her to take the spotlight many times in the story.
* ThirdPersonPerson: the truest example in the whole story. From the chapter that she was introduced to the fleet, the author has depicted Haruna speaking unfailingly in her third-person habit and has never broken it since.

Added DiffLines:

* AllohistoricalAllusion: while not fleshed out as much as the one among Akagi, Kaga, Takao, and Amagi, Fusou shares one with Ise and Hyuuga because the Ise-Class were first conceived as members of the Fusou-Class but then were revised heavily due to all the numerous design flaws found in the Fusou-Class. This relationship among the three is hinted at several times throughout the story, with a clear example being in chapter 283, when, while the fleet is posing for one last funny picture for Aoba, Ise and Hyuuga pull Fusou up so that Fusou ends up sitting on their shoulders.
* BornUnlucky: averted thoroughly in this story - in fact, [[DefiedTrope she's actually one of the luckier ones.]] Mr. Araki, in searching for Furutaka after the nuclear war, also found Fusou and Kitakami together with her in the same shipment and thus reactivated them all, taking them to live with him in hiding in a CCPL post in Boise, Idaho. Considering the reactivation stories that some ''other'' ship girls have had, Fusou's isn't bad at all, if you count out the fact that she's been living without her sister Yamashiro for thirteen years without knowing what's ended up happening to her.
* CharacterDevelopment: a minor one in her backstory, but Fusou admits to struggling with her new life in America, primarily because she couldn't get over her sharp concern for Yamashiro, such as her well-being and her whereabouts. Since then, however, she's accepted the fact that whatever has happened to Yamashiro are things she can't do anything about, and that the two of them will meet again when the time comes. And when Damon and his fleet meet them at New Chicago for the first time, she willingly goes along with Mr. Araki's orders for her, Furutaka, and Kitakami to join Damon's fleet because this means she now has a realistic way to search for her missing sister.
* {{Charisma}}: surprisingly, she's got a 9.
* CommonalityConnection: averted; her gentle and kind disposition allows her to be approachable by anyone, but it's not like she takes an odd liking to hanging out with those who may also be historically unlucky.
* TheEeyore: averted thoroughly again. Fusou is by no means depressed over the fact that she hasn't seen her sister Yamashiro for thirteen years, though she does admit the first few years were the toughest to get over. Instead, she's chosen to take solace in the fact that she was found and taken good care of by a former F.L.E.E.T. project developer who gave up his own life back in Japan just to find them before they fell into the wrong hands. And when Damon and his fleet come around, she willingly joins them, as opposed to Furutaka, who initially doesn't share her enthusiasm.
* {{Flanderization}}: averted through and through. True to the story's tendency of doing away with most such Flanderizations of characters in the game, Fusou, too, is portrayed as a motherly young woman who carries out her duties faithfully and fights willingly without complaint.
* GreenEyedMonster: averted, Fusou has shown nothing to suggest that she's jealous of anyone for any reason, despite her historic circumstances.
* MightyGlacier: subverted; while she's got a poor 2 in speed and a respectable 2000 hit points, her defense is only 6, and her armor points only tally in at 1000, which isn't that great compared to the rest of the battleships in the story.
* NiceGirl: kind, courteous, and has a Comradeship rating of 80% to support this.
* TheRival: also averted from the game, and it's justified in-story due to Fusou's perception of the Ise-Class battleships as fellow ship sisters due to their historic class relationship.
* VeteranUnit: along with Furutaka and Kitakami, given their backstories as reactivated ship girls living for thirteen years with a former Japanese F.L.E.E.T. project developer before the start of the story, and with the same bonuses that the other two ship girls receive, too.

Added DiffLines:

* AllohistoricalAllusion: while not fleshed out as much as the one among Akagi, Kaga, Takao, and Amagi, Ise and Hyuuga share one with Fusou because the Ise-Class were first conceived as members of the Fusou-Class but then were revised heavily due to all the numerous design flaws found in the Fusou-Class.
* KatanasAreJustBetter: it's even listed as a passive ability for both Ise and Hyuuga to wield katanas more effectively, gain bonus experience for kills she gets with katanas, and teach other people how to use katanas. The passive ability even specifies this works with any Japanese-style sword, not just katanas.
* LightningBruiser: since both Ise and Hyuuga share almost all the same stats (only their Charisma stats differ), they both have an 8 in defense, an okay 6 in speed, and 2300 armor and health each. Not quite on the same level as Kongou or even Haruna are, but they're more this than a MightyGlacier.
* OrnamentalWeapon: averted; due to the way gearboxes work in the story, Ise and Hyuuga are definitely able to wield their katanas - the only problem is that they didn't come with their own.

Added DiffLines:

* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: averted from the 4koma, she behaves like a normal girl in the story.
* {{Determinator}}: an 8 in endurance and 75% in Critical Damage Resist.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: averted from the 4koma, for the reason above.
* OrnamentalWeapon: averted; Damon does buy a katana for Ise from a local Japanese swordsmith in New Chicago, but it breaks in combat during Operation Dualsight, as it's just an ordinary katana, not made of Smartsteel like the Orion-Class's cavalry sabres are.
* TheSlacker: averted from the 4koma, she definitely doesn't slack when it comes to training and sorties. At least, no one's said anything against her about it.

Added DiffLines:

* CloudcuckoolandersMinder: averted from the 4koma, she isn't seen reining Ise in all the time because she doesn't need to.
* ComicallySerious: averted, she keeps the serious part and drops the comic.
* {{Determinator}}: an 8 in endurance and 70% in Will.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: averted from the 4koma, for the reason above.

* AwesomeButImpractical: averted, as the story does not follow ingame mechanics faithfully. Musashi is seen being fielded in every combat operation ever since her introduction, despite the projected "cost" of her doing so.

* AdaptationPersonalityChange: a slight one, but she starts off as incredibly hostile towards Damon once he tells her that he's willing to trade his entire fleet to bring back his parents.

* BerserkButton: as her first conversation with Damon suggests just before their assault on the secret Abyssal base in Newfoundland, anything that implies harm for the fleet or otherwise may suggest that ship girls are expendable triggers her.
* {{BFG}}: a standout example in the fleet: she is the only battleship to wield a sniper rifle as her primary firearm. On top of that, it's an anti-materiel rifle...''on top of that'', it's no ordinary anti-materiel rifle - it's the [[http://www.militaryfactory.com/smallarms/detail.asp?smallarms_id=936 25mm M109-A2.]]
** as a Yamato-Class battleship herself, it's only natural that Musashi possess the penultimate battleship ability, the Yamato Cannon.
* BigEgoHiddenDepths: but for a different reason compared to her ingame appellation. She's very proud of her Japanese heritage, but she cultivates an acute resentment of Americans and the US due to Japan's ultimate loss in the war and all the pain and suffering they'd caused onto her comrades. It only gets worse when she's told of the tragedies some of her fleet comrades have had to go through so far, and the ones that she learns of as time goes on, particularly during the Coalition campaigns.
* BoisterousBruiser: subverted, she hasn't uttered a single boast, perhaps due to her slight AdaptationPersonalityChange.

* BornUnlucky: averted from the game; because she and other ship girls were found at the Norfolk Naval Yard, as was their intended shipping destination before the nuclear war, the Coalition factions were working to secure her. Had the fleet not intervened at the time that they did, Musashi and those other ship girls would have found themselves in Coalition hands.
* CharacterDevelopment: while she begins as hostile towards Damon for much of the story, her opinion of him finally changes after [[spoiler:WhiskeyHotel]], because by that point even she cannot ignore the extraordinary effort he's made for the sake of the fleet.
* {{Charisma}}: a solid 9.
* {{Determinator}}: keeping true to her ingame stats, Musashi also has the triple threat: an immense 14 in endurance, 100% in Critical Damage Resist, and another 100% in Will.

* MightyGlacier: is more this than Nagato is due to her higher defense rating (11) and slower speed (4), with the same armor and health points as her. Her passive ability, Stubborn, cranks up the notch on this trope by allowing Musashi to take 50% less damage from all incoming attacks when her health drops below 50%.
* RealityEnsues: as convenient as it might be, a short time skip of sixty-five years isn't quite enough to resolve the deeply entrenched feelings that some of the ship girls have against the United States and its people, and Musashi is one of them. Her time in the US has only served to worsen those feelings for her, given all the things that have happened to her comrades at the hands of the Americans.

to:

* ThirdPersonPerson: like many of the usual examples of this in the game, in this story, Musashi seems to lose this trait and addresses herself normally.

* AmazonianBeauty: One of the first things we are told about her shipgirl body is that she is tall and muscular.

!Iowa (''Fanfic/PacificWorldWarIIUSNavyShipgirls'' version)

The ship girl incarnation of the U.S.S. ''Iowa'', BB-61.

* TabletopGame/{{Chess}}: is seen playing chess with Warspite in chapter 268.
* CutenessProximity: Has this reaction in chapter 239 to Toshi, Damon's pet puppy they picked up from Houston. Aoba and Damon even lampshade this.
* MinnesotaNice: She is unfailingly good-natured and polite.
* {{Ojou}}: fits this persona with her persistent politeness in behavior and speech.
* ReluctantWarrior: she's very insistent on not hurting any Americans because she doesn't like the idea of shooting her own people, including the policemen of Chicago during one of their missions. Oddly enough, she's fine with shooting the Secret Service agents, but this may be because she sees them as Blackwood's personal defense force and that they must be eliminated if they get in the way.
* ShotgunsAreJustBetter: when Damon, Samidare, and Suzukaze pass her while visiting the U.S.S. Alabama (before Damon technically knows who she is), she's depicted sitting with one standing next to her, a shotgun-umbrella, no less. She's yet to use it in combat, though - but in chapter 242, she's finally seen using it, an [[http://www.ithacagun.com/defense37s.php Ithaca Model 37 pump-action]], in combat.
* {{Shoutout}}: she's seen reading [[http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1266344.Man_After_Man Man After Man]] near the U.S.S. Alabama.
* VeteranUnit: she was part of Seal Team Six (different from Sanford's Seal Team Six), the elite Navy Seal Team that comprised of the four American ship girls and !Samidare, who served throughout the first half of the nuclear apocalypse defending the United States from both human and Abyssal attackers during the Federation War and the Typhoon Wars.

!Iowa (canon version)

* AllohistoricalAllusion: at one point during the fleet's holiday in New Chicago, she's seen wearing a shirt that says,[[MemeticMutation "I MADE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN".]]
* BigDamnHeroes: pulls one off to interrupt Damon's and Blackwood's fight and manages to barely save his life by knocking aside the shot Blackwood intended to fire at Damon's head and buys him time to pull out the karambit that Blackwood's stabbed him with and throw it back at him to kill him.
* BoobsOfSteel: One of the most endowed ship girls and, being a battleship, monstrously strong, even fighting barehanded in melee.
* {{Determinator}}: near the end of Damon's fight with Blackwood, she forces her way into the lab in which the two are fighting to intervene by herself under the influence of an EMP field without the help of her ship strength (because she's forced to turn it off just to be able to get inside the lab without completely succumbing to the EMP field in the first place) and fistfights Blackwood even though she's at severe disadvantages against him. And when you realize that she's probably still got that sword wound received from Warspite, on top of being tired out from fighting against the Warspites before this, it's quite apparent that Iowa is really fighting up a slope when she intervenes at the time she does.
* DefectorFromDecadence: as evidenced by her intervention in the fight between Damon and Blackwood, as she must have actively rebelled against her own command prompt that forces her to recognize Blackwood as her Admiral in order to fight him.
* GratuitousEnglish: naturally averted, seeing the trend of the story's depiction of ship girls.
* InSeriesNickname: Goes by "Iris" as of chapter 252 in order to distinguish herself from the brunette one.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: she and Warspite (Wikolia) grow quite close.
* TheNicknamer: just like Damon, she seems to like doling out nicknames to her friends. Kongou becomes "Konnie", and Warspite becomes "Wicky".
* PunchClockVillain: She demonstrates no eagerness to fight under Blackwood's orders even as she prepares to do so.
* {{Shoutout}}: while she's become good friends with the rest of the American ship girls and some of the battleships, Iris is especially close with Warspite and Kongou, for whom she has nicknames for, relationships that quite a few other fan artists ship.
* SweetTooth: her favorite ice cream is rainbow sherbet.
* UnexpectedCharacter: ''Iowa'' having two separate ship girl incarnations existing at the same time, with the sole precedent of ''Samidare'' having both !Samidare and Samidare only because of explicit outside supernatural intervention saving the former's life when she should have died giving birth to the latter, probably caught a lot of readers off guard.

!New Jersey
The ship girl incarnation of USS ''New Jersey'', BB-62. Or she would be if her body had actually been completed. Now she's stuck in her original body as a sapient programme.

* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: She probably didn't know what kind of trouble giving Suzukaze the Colossus Reactor augmentation would cause down the line.

!Wisconsin

The ship girl incarnation of the U.S.S. "Wisconsin', BB-64. Based on Wisconsin from ''Fanfic/PacificWorldWarIIUsNavyShipgirls''.

* AffectionateNickname: called "Winny" by her fellow American ship girls.
* FlashStep: appears to pull this off in chapter 242 while wielding her rapier in order to reach opponents who are just out of her sword's range.
* MercyKill: puts an American soldier out of his misery once his suit gets breached in a rad zone and begins to expose him to radiation, on top of his gunshot wounds.
* {{Ojou}}: also one with Iowa.
* OddFriendship: With Yorktown, considering the other's warship self had already been sunk by the time hers was launched.. She seems to like doting on her.
* ParryingBullets: pulls this off in chapter 242 with the flat side of her rapier.
* ReluctantWarrior: also like Iowa, she doesn't like the idea of having to fight against her own people, though interestingly, she's not as adamant about it as Iowa is.
* RoyalRapier: like Iowa, she has a gentlewomanly persona and wields a naval officer's rapier.
* ShrinkingViolet: the shyest and most reserved of the American ship girls.

[[folder:Yorktown-class]]

!Yorktown

The ship girl incarnation of the U.S.S. "Yorktown", CV-5. Based on Yorktown from ''Fanfic/PacificWorldWarIIUsNavyShipgirls''.

* AffectionateNickname: called "Yorkie" by her fellow American ship girls.
* BerserkButton: potentially Wisconsin in the sense of anyone hurting her, which contributes to the OddFriendship between them.
* {{Cowboy}}: affects a cowgirl persona, complete with the stereotypical cowgirl accent featured in old Western movies.
* TheDreaded: curiously, she's this to Imuya, even though Yorktown's the one who got sunk by her at the end of Midway.
* FriendlySniper: as opposed to Enterprise's ColdSniper.
* GunNut: geeks out over the sniper rifles they receive in the secret weapons cache stowed away in Damon's would-be coffin and takes the Barrett M107-CQ for herself.
* GunsAkimbo: is particularly fond of and very skilled at this, apparently: in chapter 242, her weapons besides her newly acquired Barrett sniper rifle are a pair of lever-action shotguns and her own pair of fifty-caliber revolvers.
* HandCannon: like her fellow carrier Enterprise, her main sidearms are a pair of S&W Model 500 revolvers.
* ImprobableAimingSkills: a stretch of this trope, but chapter 242 specifically describes the rate at which Yorktown fires her two revolvers as physically improbable for normal humans to do given the one-handed nature of their shooting combined with the revolvers' heavy recoils and tough handling.
* OddFriendship: with Wisconsin, who wasn't even launched by the time she sunk. As much as their personas clash, she gets long surprisingly well with the battleship, to the point where she will unabashedly shove her face into Wisconsin's midriff and ask for a head pat.
* OneHandedShotgunPump: while not a pumping motion, Yorktown, because she's dual-wielding lever-action shotguns, does this with her Model 1887s out of necessity in combat.
* RevolversAreJustBetter: uses a pair of S&W 500s as her sidearms, as stated above. She even uses a fully suppressed [[http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2009/03/03/sw-625-fully-suppressed-revolver/ S&W 625 "PSDR-3"]] .45 ACP revolver for her stealth missions.
* {{Shoutout}}:
** Drops several lines from [[VideoGame/{{Overwatch}} Jesse [=McCree=]]] and is even implied to use his Deadeye ultimate with her own suppressed PSDR-3. She also references Creator/ClintEastwood and his movies.
** Another one is her pair of lever-action shotguns, which are an explicit reference to the [[GameBreaking Model 1887s]] featured in VideoGame/CallOfDutyModernWarfare2's multiplayer.
* ShotgunsAreJustBetter: to further reinforce her Wild West cowgirl persona, she swings around a pair of lever-action [[http://chiappafirearms.com/products/82 Winchester Model 1887s.]]
* SweetTooth: her favorite ice cream is mint chocolate.
* {{Tsundere}}: shows a few signs of this towards Damon, but nothing full-blown.

!Enterprise

The ship girl incarnation of the U.S.S. "Enterprise", CV-6. Based on Enterprise from ''Fanfic/PacificWorldWarIIUsNavyShipgirls''.

* AbnormalAmmo: she's able to fire a yellow-flame bullet with presumably enhanced power out of her S&W 500 to shoot the pilot of an Apache attack chopper in chapter 247. This is probably because she's using Damon's energy that she absorbed prior to this mission to give her bullet the power it needs to penetrate the bulletproof windshield of the helicopter's cockpit.
* AffectionateNickname: called "Ellie" by her fellow American ship girls.
* ClintSquint: pulls one off while using her ability "Aces High".
* ColdSniper: more sociable than a true ColdSniper, but one nonetheless.
* DeadpanSnarker: loves to be one when Damon and Yorktown are talking.
* ExoticEyeDesigns: gains one very briefly when using her "Aces High" ability, when both of her pupils grow the patterns of sniper rifle scope crosshairs.
* TheGambler: seems to be quite proficient and lucky at poker games, as seen in chapter 268.
* HandCannon: her [[http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product4_750001_750051_764947_-1_757771_757767_757751_ProductDisplayErrorView_Y S&W 500.]]
* ImprobableAimingSkills: she uses her S&W Model 500 to perfectly headshot an enemy at more than sixty meters with a single bullet, thanks to the aid of her Aces High ability.
* NotSoDifferent: has this view when [[HumanWeapon comparing ship girls like herself to guns and other weapons]], saying that both of them have been constructed to kill and destroy, otherwise there would be no point to constructing them in the first place.
* {{Shoutout}}: in chapter 242, an apparent ability Enterprise has is called "Aces High", a reference to the famous song of the same name by Iron Maiden.
* SmallGirlBigGun: while the story doesn't specify the heights of the American ship girls, if the source material is any indication, it's possible that Enterprise is the shortest among them. Not only does that not stop her from using big sniper rifles like her MK-21 PSR and even the Barrett M-95 that she picks up later, but in her introduction scene in chapter 219, she's depicted carrying a modernized Bazooka that's as tall as she is and a S&W 500 revolver.
* SmokingIsCool: like Damon, she seems to have a great liking for candy cigarettes and is rarely seen without one outside of combat or duty.
* TheStoic: definitely friendlier than the usual examples, but is still the most even-tempered of all the American ship girls. There are a few times when Yorktown does manage to make her flustered, however.
* TakeThat: When Damon asks her in chapter 242 if she doesn't want to use a more convenient firearm like an assault rifle instead of limiting herself to her bulky, unwieldy, and unnecessarily powerful S&W Model 500:
--> Enterprise: "I've got [[Film/{{DirtyHarry}} the most powerful handgun in the world]] right here. Why would I feel the need to take something inferior?"
* ThemeNaming: seems to have a thing for cards, as in chapter 242, she demonstrates two instances of this: her Aces High ability (which is supposed to be a musical reference first and foremost) and her BondOneLiner of "Straight...ten high". Reinforced when the story depicts her playing poker with some of the other capital ships, as she's very good at it and eliminates Yorktown from a match.

[[folder:Queen Elizabeth-class]]

!Warspite (''VideoGame/WarshipGirls'' version)

The ship girl incarnation of the H.M.S. ''Warspite'', pennant number 03.

* ElegantWeaponForAMoreCivilizedAge: while not explicitly mentioned on her part, seeing that she never uses a gun for the entirety of the assault on Whiskey Hotel, it's safe to assume that she shares this view with the other Warspite, in contrast with her contemporaries the Orions who have no such qualms.
* InSeriesNickname: goes by "Winifred" whenever she's together with the other Warspite for the sake of ease of differentiation.
* {{Ojou}}: carries herself with the air of an elegant, high-class English noblewoman, though she's definitely a level haughtier than the other Warspite.
* ParryingBullets: how she's compelled to fight when attacked by gunfighters.
* RoyalRapier: a {{Shoutout}} to Lucina's sword from VideoGame/FireEmblem and shares the same name, the Parallel Falchion.

!Warspite (canon version)

* AffectionateNickname: gets called "Wicky" by Iris, based off her first nickname, Wikolia.
* AltumVidetur: a very small example: she utters the phrase "in terra", which means "on land" when she's talking about her decision to remain faithful to her sword as her only weapon during land engagements. Warspite is the only person in the entire story who's included even a smidgen of Latin in her speech, possibly as an indication of her gentlewomanly British persona.
* CoolChair: averted from the game - Warspite has no such chair in this story, as she's seen standing whenever she fights.
* TabletopGame/{{Chess}}: is seen playing chess with Iowa in chapter 268.
* DontMakeMeDestroyYou: issues Iowa (canon) one of these after the two Warspites defeat her together, which Iowa is all too glad to accept.
* ElegantWeaponForAMoreCivilizedAge: explicitly states in chapter 249 when Damon offers to give her his submachine gun for her to use that she feels that using guns for her is "unseemly", in contrast with her contemporaries the Orions who have no such qualms.
* HiddenDepths: when she speaks with Damon in chapter 267, she reveals to him that her current fear with being a recent newcomer to the fleet is coping with possible feelings of homesickness as time goes on.
* InSeriesNickname: goes by "Wikolia" whenever she's together with the other Warspite for the sake of ease of differentiation.
* LadyOfWar: even more so than her ingame rendition: not only does she serve in a long-range battleship bombardment against the White House, but she's a talented swordwoman [[LetsFightLikeGentlemen who refuses to stoop to the level of using firearms in land combat]] and almost matches Iowa's levels of MinnesotaNice.
* LightningBruiser: even though she's very much so a battleship and can run through bullets like they're [[{{Pun}} BB pellets,]] she's also very quick and agile, as she needs to be in order to fight with just her sword as her personal creed dictates.
* LudicrousMeleeAccuracy: uses her Tipper attack to land a DiagonalCut onto Iowa (canon) during their fight and slashes her down the chest, perfectly in between her breasts. Since Iowa (canon) has an impressive, let's say, upper hull armor, and given the size of Warspite's Falchion, assuming it's more or less the same as the one [[VideoGame/FireEmblem it's referencing]], it's a mystery how Warspite even lands a hit like that.
* RepressedMemories: the thought of her wartime crews who served aboard her during her times of active warship service in both world wars brings Warspite to tears in chapter 267.
* RippedFromTheHeadlines: just barely a week after she was implemented ingame, like Graf Zeppelin before her, Warspite finds her way into this story as well.
* RoyalRapier: a {{Shoutout}} to Marth's sword from VideoGame/FireEmblem and shares the same name, the Falchion.
* {{Ojou}}: carries herself with the air of an elegant, high-class English noblewoman, and she seems to be considerably more polite than the other Warspite. Given her design as recently implemented in the game, this practically comes as no surprise.
* ParryingBullets: how she's compelled to fight when attacked by gunfighters.
* {{Shoutout}}: an obvious one for anyone who is into competitive [[VideoGame/SuperSmashBros Super Smash Bros. Melee]]: Warspite (canon) executes an attack called Tipper and hits Iowa with the tip of her Falchion in a downwards slash down to the floor, sending Iowa flying and hitting a wall so hard she bounces off it, all references to Marth's forward smash attack ingame and his special Tipper mechanic that inflicts absurdly higher knockback than usual.
** also has one for Dudley from VideoGame/StreetFighterIV, as the one attack she employs during the assault on Whiskey Hotel that doesn't involve her sword is called the Corkscrew Cross, Dudley's Ultra II combo.
* StaffOfAuthority: averted from the game, like her Coronation Chair - Warspite in this story has not yet shown either her scepter or orb at all, as her only depicted piece of equipment is her Falchion.

[[folder:Others]]

!Jeannie "Vatista" Sawatari

Lauren's daughter. The first and only product of the second phase of the FLEET Project.

* AccidentalInnuendo: in chapter 185: "'Vatista has watched videos. [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything She will make]] [[InnocentInnuendo you feel good.]]'"
* BigDamnHeroes: pulls this off twice to save Damon and Murasame at two separate intervals.
* BlastingItOutOfTheirHands: with her "Gundance" attack.
* ContinuityCameo: she is also the main character of an earlier work by the same author, a Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica fanfic titled [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9991353/1/Caelicolae-Liberi-Assimilation Caelicolae Liberi: Assimilation]]. Judging by the AlternateUniverse nature of this story, it's very possible that she can be considered an AlternateUniverse version of herself from Caelicolae Liberi: Assimilation. To cement this, an older version of Jeannie from Caelicolae Liberi shows up in chapter 186, when she visits Damon's dreamworld, complete with references to the Madoka universe and the author's previous fanfic itself.
* CreepyChild: due to the genetic and bodily modifications done to her, she speaks like a computer program, though she'll talk normally (or as normal as she can) to make herself more understood.
* CyberneticsEatYourSoul: what happened to Jeannie when she was put through the second phase of the F.L.E.E.T. Project.
* DefrostingIceQueen: her time spent with her cousin Damon has done much to thaw the cold machinelike behavior and atmosphere with which Jeannie carries herself (or, more accurately, is built to carry herself).
* EarCleaning: she cleans Damon's ears with cotton swab picks in chapter 185.
* EnfantTerrible: invokes this during Operation Dualsight, when she approaches a group of Mexican soldiers to distract them while the rest of her team sets up to eliminate them. [[TroublingUnchildlikeBehavior She gets a fair portion of action herself.]]
* EveryonesBabySister: she seems to get along quite well with everyone in the fleet.
* GunsAkimbo: Uses a pair of subcompact Glock 26s that can fit her small hands.
* HeroicAlbino: she is born one due to complications of irradiation at birth, though due to her CreepyChild tendencies, she needs a little getting used to before she can be firmly cemented as heroic.
* {{Homage}}: Jeannie's dreamworld when she hacks into Damon's is called "Silva Gelida". This is Latin for [[VideoGame/{{CallOfDutyBlackOps3}} "The Frozen Forest".]]
* HiddenDepths: it's revealed that she actually had a dreamworld of her own much like Damon's in the past, but she lost access to it after her involvement in the F.L.E.E.T. 2 Project. Even still, she's able to gain access to Damon's dreamworld through a mysterious process that she calls "Dreamhacking".
* JackOfAllTrades: is said to be able to equip the ship guns of any ship type in the fleet. Demonstrates this by equipping a battleship-caliber gun and walking around with it.
* LittleMissBadass: due to her time as a F.L.E.E.T. 2 Project prototype, she is essentially a ship girl in her own right, with all the powers of one and then some.
* LivingBattery: she's revealed to be a biological generator of navitasium, the strange energy that fuels some of the ship girls' protocols and abilities. She's shown several times recharging the depleted navitasium cubes of the ship girls in the fleet by holding them for periods of time.
* MistakenIdentity: is mistaken for Losira by Damon once she's done cleaning Damon's ears in chapter 185, but this is only a temporary lapse.
* SheIsAllGrownUp: her would-be seventeen-year-old self (possibly only a projection from an AlternateUniverse, but Jeannie herself isn't aware of this either) meets Damon inside his dreamworld, which surprises him, since she speaks and behaves like an ordinary but very polite teenage girl.
* ShoutOut: Her character design and name are ones to [[VideoGame/UnderNightInBirth Vatista]]. She also gives another reference, this time to ''Film/Terminator2JudgmentDay'', when she tells Damon that she knows now why humans cry.
* TheStoic: due to her years as a human test subject, she very rarely gives any particular facial expression. The only time she's seen showing any emotion is the night after Damon dies, when she cries into her mother's arms.
* ThirdPersonPerson: refers to herself in third person as "Vatista", her codename.

[[folder:Battlecruisers and Battleships]]

!Nagato-Class

!!Nagato

* TheAce: there's a reason why Damon assigns her as the default flagship for the fleet unless otherwise reassigned.
* {{BFG}}: primarily wields light machine guns or high-capacity squad support weapons like the M-27 IAR as her firearm of choice. Of course, there's her actual [[CaptainObvious battleship guns, but those go without saying.]]
* CutenessProximity: averted; even though Toshi and Yoru, the fleet pets, have been running around in Damon's house in New Chicago, Nagato hasn't made a move on them. Yet.
* {{Determinator}}: carries the triple threat: a 9 in endurance, 80% Critical Damage Resist, and 80% Will. [[spoiler:The fact that she's made it through her Coalition tenure mentally wholly can also count, if only for the reason that so many other girls didn't.]]
* DoesNotKnowHisOwnStrength: averted; she keeps her strength under control easily and uses it when she deems it necessary.
* FrontlineGeneral: her Command passive ability allows her to field orders to the fleet much like Damon can and slightly buffs all ship girls' combat attributes if they're fighting in front of her.
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: [[spoiler:as a result of her and the other ship girls' position in Charlotte, Nagato was forced to work as a prostitute in a large and famous casino hotel. This being said, unlike other ship girls who have suffered sexual exploitation over the course of the story, Nagato remains the only one to not be fazed by it at all, because if she didn't do so, Murasame would have had suffered something even worse.]]
* MissingBackblast: averted; when Nagato launches an RPG warhead indoors, the blast goes off a little too closely to Hatsushimo and Wakaba, and they're sent flying.
* MistakenForGay: when they first meet in Charlotte, Nagato [[spoiler:is in the middle of her shift as a prostitute at the Fantasy Express hotel]], so judging by Damon's unwillingness to give her any kind of sexual attention, she comes to the conclusion that Damon prefers men, though this is quickly rectified. This is a joke that others will bring up from time to time regarding Damon's heterosexual-yet-abstinate nature.
* NiceGuy: she has a 100% Comradeship rating.
* RepressedMemories: the story makes it a point that all ship girls are exactly aware of the details of their past lives as warships, so this is averted carrying over from the game - [[NukeEm Nagato knows exactly what that enormous light was.]] But then again, she's never brought it up in the story so far.
* TheStoic: maintained; whenever she is portrayed, she's always serious and duty-driven, without the usual NotSoStoic tendencies that fandom tends to give her. She does have a few moments where she seems she'll break this mold, but nothing that truly breaks her character.
* StoneWall: subverted because, well, [[CaptainObvious battleships are quite powerful.]] Presence of offensive capabilities aside, she's already one of the tankiest, if not ''the'' tankiest, ship girls in the story with 2000 armor points and 3500 health points, and her Big Seven passive ability takes this UpToEleven by giving her a few but powerful defensive buffs and make her armor more effective at mitigating damage than normal. In addition, so far in the story, no matter how bad the battles become, the battleships have ''always'' survived.
* ThereWasADoor: during the fleet assault on the Berlin university, Nagato breaches a wall...with her shoulder.

!!Mutsu

* {{BFG}}: has run a small gauntlet with the heavy firearms in the story, such as the LSAT LMG, the M82-A1 anti-materiel rifle, and the RPK LMG.
* BornUnlucky: averted in the story; as unlucky as her historical self may have been, compared to the fates of other ship girls the fleet finds over the course of the story, Mutsu is far from unlucky.
** Funnily enough, her Playing With Fire passive debuff status makes it so that her armor has a 15% chance to let an incoming attack completely ignore her armor.
* CatchPhrase: subverted; she drops the "My, my" line a few times, but not enough to label it as a CatchPhrase off this story alone.
* InSeriesNickname: when they first meet, Damon calls her "Mutslug" because her metal head antennae make her look like one. [[spoiler:This becomes HilariousInHindsight because the Metal Slug and the Slug Gunner show up to join the fleet.]]
* LampshadeHanging: in her Fleet Log, she wonders why people thought investing time and money into developing ship girls was a good idea when there may have been so many other military technologies they could've gone after instead.
* ManOnFire: her Playing With Fire passive debuff status. She gets debuffed if someone uses any fire-related abilities near her, and the fire-related buffs that some ship girls can give out don't buff her; instead, they debuff her even more.
* NiceGuy: has a Comradeship rating of 100%.
* StarterEquipment: she is the first battleship Damon finds in the story.

!Yamato-Class

!!Musashi

* AppealToForce: She had originally planned to use her own power to bully her future admiral into changing her command prompt.
* HeWhoFightsMonsters: While there are other shipgirls who dislike or hate working with Americans, she alone stands out in growing ever more hateful of mankind the more she does battle with the worst of us.
* SlaveToPR: Self-inflicted; as revealed in her Fleet Log, while she approved of Damon's ultraviolent execution of the Harpers of Nashville, her long-cultivated anti-Damon image meant that she could never admit it. [[spoiler:This changes after Damon rescues the fleet from Blackwood.]]

!Kongou-Class

!!Kongou

* AdaptationPersonalityChange: as is the pattern with many of the characters portrayed in this story, Kongou is no exception: her BoisterousBruiser, ClingyJealousGirl, GenkiGirl, and LargeHam tendencies are downplayed, though she still keeps varying degrees of all of these. Her introduction into the fleet is the time when her personality is the most drastically changed from the game, due to her forced affiliation with the Inner Circle and the Abyssals and her initial deep distrust of Damon because of how they first met. She rapidly improves once she joins the fleet to return to the more traditional Kongou.
* {{BFG}}: her Yamato Cannon.
* BritishEnglish: naturally, a frequent user of British slang - and not surprisingly, throws a lot of insults that are used in the VideoGame/KillingFloor games.
* CainAndAbel: subverted. During the London operation, there was a chance for Kongou to fight against Haruna due to the circumstances surrounding the operation, but thankfully for the two sisters, they don't actually meet each other while hostilities are up.
* CultureChopSuey: Lancashire accent? Check. Great liking for tea? Check. British heritage? Check. Japanese fluency? Check. Modified Japanese shrine maiden uniform? Check. Desu? Absolutely check.
* GratuitousEnglish: also averted for Kongou, as she speaks with a fluent Lancashire accent that corresponds with her original construction ship yard location, Barrow-in-Furness.
* HeroicBSOD: suffers a brief one in chapter 94 when Damon tells her that she isn't his type.
* LethalChef: it's like she's taken it upon herself to be the resident Hiei of the fleet - her curry one night knocks Shoukaku out. Thankfully, Damon is there to salvage her curry and at least make it edible.
* LightningBruiser: just like her ingame rendition, she hits hard and has powers like her Burning Love and Yamato Cannon that also hit hard, while also being quite fast and tough due to her fast battleship ship type. This is also reflected in her stats on the stat sheet.
* LiteralMetaphor: her [[CatchPhrase Burning Love]], which is now an attack that releases [[PlayingWithFire an explosion of flames immediately around her.]]
* MythologyGag: she parries an incoming shell with the back of her hand, just like in the anime.
* NukeEm: [[spoiler:her objective during Operation London as ordered by the Inner Circle was to throw a nuclear device into the sinkhole in the center of London.]]
* ThePowerOfLove: what her Burning Love ability is dependent on for the kinds of effects it will have on an enemy (or even an ally). As her affection with Damon grows or falls, so too will the effects of her Burning Love change accordingly.
* RammingAlwaysWorks: if you mean to dislocate Damon's hip, as she does in chapter 277, then of course it does.
* RealityEnsues: her fight with Shiranui. At the end of the day, even though protocols are indeed quite amazing when it comes to combat performance enhancement, a destroyer should not be able to go toe to toe with a battleship, at least not one with a strong ability like Kongou's Burning Love.
** is the recipient of an instance of this as well, as Damon berates her after her curry knocks out Shoukaku, reminding her that simply putting her heart into something she doesn't know how to do properly won't all of a sudden make it good.
* StoneWall: as suggested by her stats. While her hit points are lower than average for battleships because of her fast battleship ship type at 2000, she has the second-highest amount of armor points at 2500, tying with Musashi of all battleships, second only to Erin. She also has a tremendous defense rating of 12, when normally the max for any single rating category is supposed to be 9. These are [[MeaningfulName all references to Kongou's name]], which literally means "Indestructible" in English.
* VerbalTic: while she keeps her trademark "Desu!", she doesn't say it as frequently compared to her ingame rendition because she's actually annoyed by it due to her case of CultureChopSuey, considering it very arbitrary and random that her developers would program her to have such a tic when she's got a British accent.

* TheMusketeer: All Orion-class battleships and Erin carry and use sabres in conjunction with infantry firearms and their naval cannons, contrasting with [[spoiler:the Warspites]] who don't use guns in infantry actions.
* RoyalRapier: not a rapier, per se, but a cavalry officer's sabre made of Smartsteel capable of ParryingBullets and cannon shells, to the extent that they can cut incoming cannon shells in half.
* {{Shoutout}}: the basic character designs of the entire Orion-Class plus Erin are taken from those created by [[https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/1742569?tags=hms_orion_%28siirakannu%29 siirakannu]].

!!Orion

* {{Alcohol}}: her favorite kind is rum.
* CoolAndUnusualPunishment: is subjected to one when Damon orders her NOT to drink any ginger ale when his cousin delivers a fresh, cold case of the beverage to them. Her response?
--> Orion: "You are utterly cruel! Did your country not compose its founding documents to include the outlawing of cruel and unusual punishments?!"
* HiddenDepths: while she and her sisters all have taken a good liking to ginger ale during their stay in Chicago, Orion loves the stuff to the point where her sisters tease her over it whenever they get the chance.
* LampshadeHanging:
** points out the absurdity of the giant lindworm controlled by [[spoiler:the Abyssal]].
** also wonders why outdated World War I battleships like herself and her sisters would be chosen as ship girl candidates and constructed. This being said, the introduction of H.M.S. Warspite, both canon and in-story, makes this lampshade hanging quite amusing.
* NoodleIncident: not one that she herself was involved in, but her sisters Conqueror and Thunderer were, along with Kongou: the Re-Class apparently painted a town red because one of the Inner Circle personnel in the town of Boulogne-sur-Mer refused to give her some fuel.

!!Monarch

* {{Alcohol}}: her favorite kind is whiskey.
* {{Troll}}: chapter 185 firmly establishes her as this, as she loves to tease the hell out of her older sister Orion and encourages Damon's own trolling of Orion when ginger ale gets involved.

!!Conqueror

* {{Alcohol}}: her favorite kind is scotch.
* NoodleIncident: along with Kongou, she and Thunderer were present at one bloody incident in which the Re-Class apparently painted a town red because one of the Inner Circle personnel in the town of Boulogne-sur-Mer refused to give her some fuel.

!!Thunderer

* {{Alcohol}}: her favorite kind is tequila.

!!Erin

* {{BFG}}: uses a light machine gun, an L86-A2 Light Support Weapon, as her primary firearm for land engagements.
* ImmuneToFlinching: Erin's passive ability Hardline prevents her from ever flinching in battle.
* LikeCannotCutLike: averted in Erin's case: her passive ability Hardline specifically gives her an additional 25% damage buff when attacking enemy battleships.
* MightyGlacier: slightly zig-zagged by her entry in the stat sheet: she has 12s in attack, defense, and intelligence and a 10 in endurance, but a 1 in speed. At the same time, while she has the highest armor point rating in the whole fleet at 3000, she only has an abysmal 1000 hit points, the lowest for any battleship in the fleet. There are destroyers in the fleet who have more hit points than she does.
* SmallGirlBigGun: Erin is explicitly stated to be the shortest battleship among the British battleships who join Damon's fleet after Operation London, yet there's no reason why her ship guns are any smaller than her peers', plus she even uses a machine gun as her primary firearm while most of the Orion-Class use L85-A2 assault rifles.
* StatusBuffDispel: Erin has an inversion of this with her passive ability Hardline, which makes her completely immune to all enemy debuffs.

* AutomaticCrossbows: uses one, though technically it's a pump-action crossbow, as the Izanami crossbows that the carriers use to launch their planes must be pumped to load another bolt from the underfed magazines. It's also based on the explosive-tipped pump-action crossbow seen in VideoGame/CallOfDutyBlackOps2.
* BeatThemAtTheirOwnGame: subverted; [[spoiler:Partially Abyssalized Shoukaku, at the end of Operation Dualsight, gets isolated from the rest of the fleet by Abyssals and is confronted by the Wo-Class, who gives her an ultimatum. Upon refusing it, Shoukaku uses a ChargedAttack from her sniper rifle in a TakingYouWithMe attempt to take her would-be captors down with her, but it fails.]]

* EyeScream: In chapter 63, [[spoiler:gets shot by a .338 Lapua Magnum in the left eye during the naval air station infiltration during Operation Night Tide.]]
* FriendlySniper: as opposed to Kaga's ColdSniper. Just like her ingame persona, she is polite and kind to everyone and is, by nature of her role in the fleet as a carrier, a sniper.
* FromBadToWorse: suffers this during Operation Norfolk, indicative of her BornUnlucky trope. [[spoiler:Not only does she lose her left eye from a sniper rifle bullet during the nighttime phase, but she ends up getting captured by the Abyssals during the daytime phase along with Kaga.]]
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: Is subjected to this by Damon after receiving her ArmorPiercingSlap in chapter 72. Damon does it again in chapter 265.
* HeroicSacrifice: towards the end of Operation Dualsight, [[spoiler:when Kaga, Shoukaku, and Zuikaku are trying to regroup with the fleet, Shoukaku intentionally body-blocks a salvo of torpedoes fired after them to allow the other two to reach the rest of the surviving fleet safely while she falls into the hands of the chasing Abyssals.]]
* InASingleBound: while all ship girls have excellent jumping strength due to both their enhanced power as ship girls and their boost meters that they can use to propel them further, [[spoiler:Kaga, Shoukaku, and Murasame demonstrate that Abyssal energy takes this UpToEleven by allowing them to jump from sea level all the way up to the edge of a container freighter during Operation Orlando.]]
* MortonsFork: faces one in chapter 95: [[spoiler:by the time she was surrounded by Abyssals, Shoukaku had no chance of escape because the rest of the fleet was too far away and had taken too many casualties to bail her out. She has two choices: surrender voluntarily and at least have a chance that her captors will leave her memories intact with her imminent conversion into an Abyssal, or try to go out in a blaze of glory and suffer the same result - except without her memories as Shoukaku. She chooses the latter, and now she's known as Water Demon.]]

!!Kaga

* AdaptationPersonalityChange: while most ship girls do care about their memories as warships, Kaga is perhaps the most notorious for this to a fault. In addition, while ingame, in the anime, and in fanworks Kaga doesn't always get along with the Fifth Carrier Division girls Shoukaku and Zuikaku, in the story she is not at all as antagonistic towards them - in fact, she gets along pretty well with them, and vice versa.
* ArmorPiercingSlap: gets one from Damon in chapter 78 as their conversation degrades.
* BerserkButton: if she catches anyone talking bad about the IJN's performance in the Pacific theatre of the second World War, she's going to give them more than just a telling, even if such discussion isn't meant to put down anyone or anything in particular and is based on historical fact. She'll also explode on people if they dare call Akagi her "step-sister", as Zuikaku has had to find out the hard way.
* {{BFG}}: her fifty-caliber, anti-materiel [[http://www.carolinasfirstdefense.com/Desert-Tach-HTI--Hard-Target-Interdiction-Rifle_p_143.html Desert Tactical HTI]] sniper rifle.
* ChargedAttack: [[spoiler:after her Abyssalization, Kaga can feed her sniper rifle Abyssal energy, and her rifle will charge up the energy to fire one of these to dislodge enemy defensive structures and formations and deal more damage to Abyssal targets.]]
* ColdSniper: a combination of Kaga's stoic demeanor and the roles of carriers in this story as being the resident snipers of the fleet.
* TheComicallySerious: just like in the game and in fanworks, Kaga has a huge appetite, but she won't break character because of it. Therefore, hilarity ensues when the narration has to detail her interactions with Damon whenever it's mealtime.

* IWillFindYou: Prior to finding Akagi, her fellow First Carrier Division carrier, this was one of the main things on her mind.
* PostVictoryCollapse: has one after defeating the Re-Class in chapter 195.
* RantInducingSlight: delivers one to Shoukaku and Haruna in chapter 29 because she's triggered by how willing the two of them are to put their pasts behind them.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: a symptom of her [[spoiler:Abyssalization. As she gets more and more used to her Abyssal power over the course of the story, Kaga can suppress her Abyssal power to the point where her eyes don't give off red hazes, though they will resurface if she draws on her abyssal power.]]
* SuperMode: her [[spoiler:partial Abyssalization]] is implied to be this according to Kaga's entry in the stat sheet, but it's also implied to be a DeadlyUpgrade if she draws upon her [[spoiler:Abyssal energy]] for too long.

[[folder:Submarines]]

* CombatMedic: while not in the conventional sense, because submarine girls are the only ship girls who can swim, they are thus the only ones who can retrieve the sunken bodies of downed ship girls who have been killed in action to bring them back for repair. It's not a pretty job by any means, but undoubtedly necessary.
* ExoticEyeDesigns: due to their Cloaking, all submarines have gear-shaped symbols in their eyes that physically indicate the status of their Cloaking. Prongs inward means that they are ready to Cloak, and prongs outward means that they're Cloaked...[[TheNondescript meaning you can't see them in the first place.]]
* GlassCannon: all submarines are paper-thin when it comes to armor point, health point, and maximum level cap ratings. However, due to their torpedo artillery (especially given that the vast majority of destroyers and cruisers have not come equipped default with torpedoes of their own), the submarines are essential to providing the fleet's ability to launch opening torpedo salvos.
* InvisibilityCloak: a default ability for all submarine girls introduced thus far. See {{Shoutout}} below.
* RequiredSecondaryPowers: the submarines' Cloaking extends to whatever weapons and equipment they're carrying and wielding, including their ship armaments (mainly just mini-torpedoes before they launch them), firearms, vests, magazines, etc.
* {{Shoutout}}: [[VideoGame/{{StarCraftI}} Personal Cloaking]] is possessed by all submarines through their swimsuits, and the story goes out of its way to describe each of the submarine girls' eyes to contain the telltale Cloaking gears to further reinforce this shoutout. U-511 even drops a few lines from the Ghost unit from both VideoGame/{{StarCraftI}} and VideoGame/StarcraftII.
** their theme is "The Mark", from VideoGame/Payday2.
* StealthExpert: all submarines, including the German subs, come with Cloak, made possible by their advanced swimsuits, and are generally armed with suppressed weapons and deployed on stealth missions (or at least play stealth roles in combat operations); the only real exception to this is U-511, whose multi-purpose C-10 Canister Rifle compels her to fight a little less stealthily.

!I-19

* BloodKnight: she loves to fight, more so than the other submarines.
* ClingyJealousGirl: subverted from the game. She loves to hang out with Damon, but she's in no way clingy.
* FriendlySniper: has the vision of one to back it up. In addition, whenever she spots enemies, their markers are unique in that they track them for three seconds, as opposed to standard spotting, which only marks the locations of enemies at the moment they were spotted. [[spoiler:And now with her new Binary Rifle, she fulfills this trope inside and out.]]
* OutOfFocus: sees that as the fleet grows, Damon was paying less and less attention to her.
* {{Shoutout}}: receives the [[spoiler:[[VideoGame/{{Halo}} Z-750 Binary Rifle]] through Damon's YRC.]]
** the Twitter-like handle she uses during the submarines' text conversation is the same one seen in [[https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/2236679?pool_id=8259 yua (checkmate)'s "Fleet Journal".]]
* StarterEquipment: she is the first submarine that Damon finds in the story.
* SuperSenses: Iku has augmented vision, a reference to her reputation as a sniper.
* VerbalTic: her "nano" comes through in this story as well, even in English.

!I-168

* BreakTheCutie: the sight of the mangled and deformed bodies of the sunken ship girls during the salvage operation after Operation Dualsight really rattled her.
* FriendlySniper: curiously, the story doesn't acknowledge Imuya's own historical reputation as a submarine sniper. Imuya does [[spoiler:receive [[VideoGame/CallOfDutyAdvancedWarfare a railgun sniper rifle]] as her new power weapon from Damon's YRC, though.]]
* TheDreaded: inverted, funnily enough - even though she's supposed to be this to Yorktown, due to her historic sinking of the carrier at the end of Midway, Imuya goes out of her way to avoid Yorktown whenever she can, according to the carrier herself.
* MythologyGag: at the time she joined the fleet, Imuya did not have her smartphone, which she's quite well known for ingame, but she finally gets one (as do the rest of the submarines) when Damon buys them refurbished ones in New Chicago.
* {{Shoutout}}: receives the [[spoiler:[[VideoGame/CallOfDutyAdvancedWarfare MORS Rail Sniper]] through Damon's YRC.]]

* {{Shoutout}}: receives a [[spoiler:[[VideoGame/{{Starcraft}} Dark Templar's Psionic Blade]] through Damon's YRC.]]
* SituationalDamageAttack: her passive ability, Stealth Gambit, is this. If Shioi can flank the enemy and throw the first torpedo to initiate a naval battle, that torpedo deals triple damage and completely ignores enemy armor.
* WouldNotHitAGirl: she isn't comfortable with the idea of shooting another female in battle, even though she herself is a female combatant.

* VerbalTic: like Iku, she constantly spews her trademark "dechi", even in English.

!Maru-yu

* AmbiguousInnocence: Despite her very young appearance, Maru-yu is disturbingly comfortable with violence. Best demonstrated in chapter 151, where she watches full of DissonantSerenity as a bunch of mooks burn to death from a MolotovCocktail she had thrown at them, then does it again on a straggler.
* {{Homage}}: most likely one to [[https://danbooru.donmai.us/pools/8877?page=1 gaiko kujin's Maru-yu-san.]] [[spoiler:Reinforced by the cigar she gets from contracting with Damon.]]
* JokeCharacter: implied with her stats: they're all 1's. [[{{Understatement}} Apparently, she's not a joke at all.]]
* TheStoic: her passive ability, Maru-yu-san, lets her completely disregard the penalties ship girls normally suffer for having 100% insanity and prevents her from gaining any more, not that that's possible to begin with.
* StoryBreakerPower: subverted; while Maru-yu hasn't done anything story-significant, she ''does'' end up doing things that even the story acknowledges shouldn't be possible, like [[HairTriggerExplosive shooting C-4 to make it blow up]]. There are things about her stats too that are very disturbing, such as having 100% insanity ''by default''. And when you realize she's supposed to be a JokeCharacter with 1's in all stats...
* WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway: [[spoiler: The power she gets from Damon lets her...summon a cigar.]]

!I-8

* BadassBookworm: averted, the few scenes in which she's depicted does not show her with her signature books that she carries around with her ingame. No reason why she couldn't read books in her free time outside of combat, though.
* GratuitousGerman: averted, she speaks fluent German and is introduced in the story as a German submarine serving with the other German ship girls in the SDP.
* {{Sadist}}: some of her dialogue lines hint at this, a reference to the war crimes that the crew of her historic warship self had committed.

!U-511

* TheAce: amongst submarine girls. Her stats, as are all German ship girls', are leaps and bounds better than any other submarine's, and her armor point, health point, and maximum level cap ratings are easily on par with a destroyer's.
* ColdSniper: more like soft-spoken, but one nonetheless.
* FightingYourFriend: [[spoiler:she gets called in by Blackwood to neutralize the American ship girls who go in to secure the DSM in Westminster, Virginia, so that Blackwood and his forces can capture them...[[FridgeLogic but then again, U-511 has never met these four and thus would never know that they were working with Damon.]]]]
* GermanicEfficiency: reinforced in the passive ability "German Engineering" that all German ship girls share, which allows all of them to have their fatigue and insanity gain rates reduced by 50%.
* {{Shoutout}}: while the other submarines only reference the Ghost's Cloaking ability, U-511 practically ''is'' a [[VideoGame/StarCraftI Ghost]]: on top her own personal Cloaking, she carries the C-10 Canister Rifle (which itself is a MythologyGag to the AlternateUniverse Fanfic/AmbiencePlatoonMoebiusFour storyline) that's capable of small arms fire and deploying Lockdown amphibious torpedoes. Several dialogue lines of hers are even taken straight from the Ghost's dialogue lines.
* {{Trigger}}: all German ship girls have some kind of passive debuff, perhaps as a NecessaryDrawback to prevent them from being overly superior stats-wise. For U-511, this comes in the form of suffering huge insanity penalties if she witnesses or comes to hear of another German ship girl sinking.
