* ''Literature/SaintessSummonsSkeletons'': The Crown of Victory keeps track of all its wearer's victories, and gives substantial Strength bonuses according to how epic the fights were. [[spoiler:Sofia's duel against her sister, which spanned several chapters, including both of them transforming into giant monsters, and went right down to the wire (Sofia winning with a headshot just before Saria would have finished her), is naturally in the highest category, "Glorious Victory".]]
--> '''Sen:''' It's all up to the grinning Orc over there, something about grandiose battles...

* The angel Brumak in ''Literature/WarsOfTheRealm''. Angels are larger than humans, but Brumak is ''extremely'' tall and strong, even for an angel. And he ''loves'' fighting. He first appears on the angels' Russian Front (literally), and this is the first conversation he ever has with anyone in the books:
--> '''Validus''': Warrior Brumak.\\
'''Brumak''': This is the voice of Validus. How goes the life of ease and comfort in America?\\
...\\
'''Validus''': On your feet, warrior. You've been reassigned under my command, and we leave immediately.\\
'''Brumak''': Porthan must think I need a vacation.
** During one particularly brutal fight, he manages to kill a droxan - a giant demonic half-bear half-dragon monster - all by himself, although it nearly takes him with him. Guess what he tells Validus as he's having his wounds treated:
--> '''Brumak''': Tomorrow I will fight ''two'' droxans if need be.

** Hell, a lot of the MainCharacters appear to be Blood Knights despite the otherwise the [[RousseauWasRight benevolent values]] of the books. Gimli and Legolas notably spend the Battle of Helms Deep having a BodyCountCompetition, Boromir gives the Balrog a BringIt using the Horn of Gondor, Aragorn shouts glory for his forebears as he smites foes and Éowyn unlike almost every other woman in the setting longs for the righteous joy of battle. In fairness though she is part of the aforementioned Rohirrim and as explained being stuck at home with a decrepit cursed uncle and the creepy Grima haunting her steps was far from ideal compared to dying nobly in battle as a LadyOfWar.

** Beorn from ''Literature/TheHobbit'' is a notable example. He is extremely pleased at hearing that Gandalf slew many goblins rescuing Bilbo and the Dwarves in the caves of the Misty Mountains and when the wizard recounts the “Out of the Frying Pan, into the Fire” scene of them stuck up trees surrounded by wolves and goblins — Beorn gets up pacing saying “I wished I had been there. ''I would’ve given them more than fireworks''. Later in the same chapter after learning Gandalf was telling him the truth from a goblin and warg he found in the wild, Beorn skins the wolf and puts the goblin’s head on a spike (this is a children’s book BTW). As Bilbo thinks, Beorn is a terrifying enemy, but fortunately he’s on their side. He makes a BigDamnHeroes reappearance in the climax to personally crush Bolg the ruling orc of Moria in his arms.

** Even the Hobbit characters; in spite of their cozy sensibilities display this with Pippin being so envious that Merry got to help slay the Witch King, he actually spends the FinalBattle searching for a great opponent he can slay (he finds one in a troll). There’s also Bilbo who goes from fainting at mere idea of getting killed — to literally singing while fighting hundreds of massive spiders and goading the massive dragon Smaug over his inability to catch him. Not to mention despite the severe trauma and heartbreak Bibo went through during the Battle of Five Armies, it was still apparently a battle he was proud of and the one that he genuinely enjoyed recounting years later. Bilbo eventually decides to leave the Shire on his 111 birthday simply because he wanted to adventure once more and he actually shows some envy towards Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin for their quest he was too old to participate in. Averted with Frodo though as he becomes a ShellShockedVeteran who eventually refuses to wield any weapon ever again.

* In ''Literature/NineteenEightyFour'', this is one of the things Big Brother wants you to be. At first glance, one might think that since Oceania is at war with Eastasia, it's natural that they'd want patriotic and devoted soldiers. However, as O'Brien tells him in then end, [[spoiler:the ForeverWar between Eastasia and Oceania is of no importance at all, and merely one more way for the party to control the people]]. So in effect, this is what Big Brother encourages people to become.

* The Rohirrim in ''Literature/TheLordOfTheRings'' seem to have cultural elements that reflect this, ''And then all the host of Rohan burst into song, and they sang as they slew, for the joy of battle was upon them.'' Not to mention when they later charge at the, far numerically superior, enemy screaming "Death!".

* ''Literature/ThePrincessBride'':
** BigBad Prince Humperdink’s greatest joy in life is [[EgomaniacHunter hunting]] with him taking unparalleled joy at taking down every possible dangerous animal that exists, to the point of having predators and great beasts brought across the world for him to fight in his Zoo of Death. He was even reluctant to claim the throne from his father since being a king would severely limit his hunting prospects. [[spoiler:Not to mention the fact he largely marries Buttercup for the intention of killing her after the kingdom of Florin has grown to love her just so that he can place the blame on rival country Guilder and have some glorious war.]] Subverted brilliantly though as Buttercup in her TheReasonYouSuckSpeech accuses Humperdink of actually being a PaperTiger who needs to hunt and kill all time to assuage his crippling insecurity that’s really the most pathetic thing to ever live. This ultimately proven correct when Westley threatens ToThePain and Humperdink buckles in quivering surrender.
** Played straighter with Inigo and the Man in Black [[spoiler:Westley]] who have a complete whale of a time during their IAmNotLeftHanded SwordFight. Inigo just beforehand as the Man in Black was climbing up to him, kissed the six fingered sword and prayed that he would be tested, that the Man in Black would be a great swordsman… and certainly got his wish. [[spoiler: There’s also Inigo’s reaction to Rugen dying at his sword quote: “The Count screamed one final time then fell dead of fear. Inigo looked down at him. The Count’s frozen face was petrified and ashen and the blood still poured down the parallel cuts. His eyes bulged wide, full of horror and pain. It was glorious. If you like that kind of thing. Inigo loved it.”]] Averted with Fezzik, despite being a nigh-unmatched fighter with bottomless strength, he’s too much of a rhyme loving GentleGiant to enjoy fighting and only became a wrestler to please his parents and later only became TheBrute to please Vizzini.

** Tulkas the BoisterousBruiser strength god of the Valar also from ''Literature/TheSilmarillion'' was certainly this with him delighting in deeds of prowess and strength such as wrestling and fighting and would laugh heartily in battle (which he did unarmed). Tulkas even managed to make GodOfEvil Melkor aka Morgoth display his DirtyCoward side in their fight, as compared to Tulkas Morgoth was ''not'' a fan of any fight on remotely equal footing and outright fled from Tulkas the moment the latter overwhelmed him in physical strength.

Emily then realizes that she doesn't actually ''want'' Lily to be disqualified over this; Emily knows Lily is monstrously evil and that she'll do horrible things if nobody stops her, and Emily wants to be the one who personally thrashes Lily and teaches her what happens to evil witches who try to hurt others.
