* RelationshipUpgrade: Twilight and Trixie go through several in the course of the comic. The first real RelationshipUpgrade comes after HeartsAndHoovesDay, moving them to OfficialCouple status. Later, during the Rough Diamond arc, Twilight proposes to her and Trixie accepts, making them fiancées. Aafter this, their engagement horn-rings become a permanent part of their appearances.

** Trixie mentions that Pinkie Pie treats mail correspondence "religiously" - likely a reference to "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS3E5WonderboltAcademy Wonderbolt Academy]]", where Pinkie gets increasingly obsessive about it (to the point of refusing to leave the mailbox even for a second).

* GeniusBonus: The incantation that Twilight is tricked into saying in order to become a genie ("Sumere volo locum tuum") is in Latin. If you can translate it, you'll know why Twilight should never have said it.

* PortmanteauCoupleName: Never used in the comic itself, but it's in the title. Twixie = Twilight + Trixie.

* DefrostingIceQueen: Trixie.
* ElementalEmbodiment: the djinn look like this in their true forms, embodying the four [[ElementsOfNature classical elements]].
* {{Elseworld}}: the Sunlight Genies arc, which replaces Trixie with Sunset Shimmer and shows an AlternateUniverse version of the comic. At the time it was published, even the Tumblr's banner and theme changed to reflect this new reality. In this alternate universe, Sunset Shimmer was the one who found the cave and became a genie, and Twilight later joined her as a genie and fell in love. Unlike Trixie's cool attitude, Sunset seems to be just as hot-blooded as Twilight, if not more so.

* FourthWallMailSlot: like most AskAPony Tumblrs, the comic runs on this. The Mailbox is actually a manifest entity in Twilight and Trixie's world (Twilight even gave it a name).
* {{Foreshadowing}}: in a very early comic, Twilight suggests that genies can 'share bottles' (which appears to be an UnusualEuphemism). Several months later, Twilight discovers just how true that is (much to her discomfort).

* FreeingTheGenie: happens to Twilight as a result of a combination of a loophole and a HeroicSacrifice by a djinn. It doesn't last, however.
* GenderBender: at one point, Twilight and Trixie are both asked to describe their 'perfect stallions', and they both end up describing male versions of each other. It isn't long before a flood of wishes come in asking them to turn into those stallions. (Neither of them seem particularly unhappy with the result.)

* MeaningfulName: a zephyr is a type of wind (specifically an warm, eastward wind), reflecting Zephyr Diamond's true nature as an air djinn.

** At one point, Trixie and Twilight are encouraged to revert to the personalities they had in the show; in doing so, Trixie regains her iconic wizard hat, first seen in the episode "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS1E6BoastBusters Boast Busters]]".

* SizeShifter: part of the genie package. Twilight and Trixie can both grow and shrink at will. Trixie often seems to end up in small forms, so much so that her shrunken form even has its own nickname ('Tiny Trixie').

* SoundEffectBleep: as is common in ''[[MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic My Little Pony]]'' fan works, Fluttershy's "yay" is used to censor out profanities and mature content.

* ThroughAFaceFullOfFur: A problem inherited from the show, but even more noticeable due to the frequent blushing. Of course, they're genies, so technically there's no reason why they ''can't'' blush...

* TwinThreesomeFantasy: apparently [[http://asktwixiegenies.tumblr.com/post/46941307514/innocent-canon-genie-twilight-discovers-the-kind a lot of readers had these]] when an alternate universe's Twilight came to visit...

* YouAreWorthHell: although Twilight doesn't really see her imprisonment as hell (at least, not since Trixie joined her), this is the spirit behind her decision to remain as a genie when she had the opportunity to escape.

* SexierAlterEgo:
** Trixie's Great and Powerful persona is far more seductive than her normal one.
