** Chicken Lickin' is clearly a jab at major fast food chains, particularly KFC. It is run by employees under minimum wage, its products are made with rather questionable ingredients (like chicken-flavored poultry by-products rather than actual chicken meat), and it has little-to-no options for vegetarian.

* VegetarianForADay: In "Sue Ellen Vegges Out", Sue Ellen becomes a vegetarian, a decision she’s been considering long before the episode started. When she announces her new lifestyle choice to her friends, Muffy and Francine join in, but the former is doing it because a celebrity she likes is doing a vegetarian diet and the latter is doing it to prove she can not eat meat longer than Muffy can. At the end, Muffy and Francine decide to go back to eating meat because they decide that vegetarianism isn’t for them but they show their support for Sue Ellen’s vegetarianism by creating Meatless Mondays in the cafeteria.

* TroublesomePet: In "Arthur's New Puppy", Pal the eponymous puppy is initially quite the nuisance. He [[UrineTrouble keeps peeing on the rug]], keeps the family up with his barking, and [[OralFixation chews on everything he sees]]. Arthur fixes this by teaching him to behave himself, and he becomes more obedient as he gets older.

* SoapWithinAShow: A few times, various characters are seen watching a soap opera on TV. One example: In "Is There a Doctor in the House?," Arthur is distracted from housework by a soap opera featuring a guy who admits to a woman that he is not, in fact, Sheldon as he had claimed, but rather his twin, Shelby. "I should have told you sooner, Karen," he says, only for her to tell him that she's not Karen, but rather Kara. "Karen" is her undercover name and she was supposed to arrest him, but she can't, because she loves him.

** In "Arthur Loses His Marbles," Arthur asks for help from Grandma Thora after learning she was quite skilled at the game in her youth. She sets him a number of "finger exercises," among these, waxing her kitchen floor. When Arthur asks her what she said the exercise was for, she states "extending your reach," though she also mutters to herself that the floor hasn't been waxed in years.

However, his content isn't all that interesting until he starts investigating D.W.'s missing cereal who she blames Arthur for. Later he finds that Pal was the one who ate D.W.'s cereal and debates on whether he should lie that Arthur did it because it is more exciting than the truth. Thankfully he decides to do the right thing and tell the truth about the crime.

* UncoolUndies: In "Fernkenstein's Monster," when everyone is challenged by Fern to tell a scary story, Arthur's story revolves around a boy (a doppelganger for Arthur himself) who receives a pair of briefs with clown faces all over them as a birthday present. Despite the boy's attempts to bury the undies and forget all about them, his pants fall down the next day in front of his whole class, revealing that he is wearing the clown-face briefs despite the fact that he had not put them on that morning or taken them out of his drawer. An evil laugh from one of the clown faces indicates that the undies have supernatural powers that enable them to embarrass the boy for not wearing them. The boy's embarrassment over the underwear is likely due to the silliness and childish nature of the clown faces and also potentially due to the fact that they are briefs rather than the more popular boxers or boxer briefs.
