* PilotMovie: This movie was essentially the pilot for the SequelSeries of ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'', ''Manga/{{Boruto}}''. Oddly enough, while the manga of ''Boruto'' takes place right after both Chapter 700 and ''Manga/{{Naruto Gaiden}}'', the anime of ''Boruto'' actually takes place ''[[AnimeFirst before]]'' Chapter 700 and, thereby, ''Gaiden'' and this movie.

* SpinOffspring: Boruto/Himiwari (Naruto and Hinata), Sarada (Sasuke and Sakura), Shikadai (Shikamaru and Temari), Chocho (Choji and Karui), Inojin (Sai and Ino), and Metal Lee (Rock Lee) are the main focus of this movie.

** Naruto looks so happy and goofy lighting the candles to [[spoiler:Himawari's birthday cake. The mood quickly falls when the Naruto goes *poof*, proving he was a clone and putting Boruto in a "ThisIsUnforgivable" state. Later he can't help but jump in joy when he hears his son made it through the second day of the Chunnin Exams.]]
** Boruto falls into this too when [[spoiler:his father comes to congratulate him on a job well done after the second day of Chunnin Exams finished. He's practically shaking with happiness on his bed.]]

** For Naruto and Hinata: seeing their children in danger. [[spoiler:Also seeing their child go down the wrong path; Boruto is willing to cheat in order to ahead in life, which led to his embarrassing expulsion from the Chunnin Exams.]]
** For Boruto and Himawari: seeing their parents in mortal peril. [[spoiler:Himawari is [[TearsOfFear crying in despair]] over seeing their mother injured as a result of her trying to save her husband. Boruto feeling guilty that he accidentally powered up Momoshiki with his ninja tool and said several hurtful things to his parents.]]
* AdvertisedExtra: Despite being one of the "main" characters during the Gaiden and being featured on the movie poster, Chocho doesn't have much of a role this time around in the film; in fact she doesn't say anything!
* AnAesop: Parents need to keep track of how much time they're spending with their children, as if they don't, in can lead to [[spoiler: them making the wrong choices about life. Oh, and CheatersNeverProsper, as Boruto learns the hard way.]]

* BadassInDistress: Short synopsis about the movie hints at [[spoiler:Naruto being captured by Momoshiki and Kinshiki while he was protecting Boruto. The latest trailer shows Gyuki captured as well.]]

* BodyguardCrush: Towards the end of the movie, [[spoiler:Boruto voices his desire to support Sarada's dream of becoming Hokage and becoming her right-hand man. She blushes crimson as a result, confirming her crush on the guy. Earlier in the movie, Boruto blushed red too when Sarada's face was inches away from his own.]]

* BreakOutTheMuseumPiece: Boruto dons his father's orange outfit as well as Sasuke's scratched head protector, both of which haven't been worn by either person since Part 1 of the manga.

* TheCameo: Characters from the original series make a brief appearance in the movie, but either have only one to two lines or no lines at all. These include: [[DemotedToExtra Sakura, Ino, Temari, Kankuro, Kiba, Akamaru, Tamaki, Shino, Iruka, Rock Lee, Tenten, Chouji, Karui, Omoi, Tsunade, Shizune, Kakashi, Kurenai, and Mirai.]]
** Killer B suffers from this as well:[[spoiler:he's already defeated and captured offscreen by Momoshiki and Kinshiki just to showcase how dangerous these two are. He is then thought to be killed when Momoshiki fires his own Tailed Beast Bomb back at him but the ending credits show that he's thankfully still alive.]]

** Sarada's goal is to become Hokage, the same goal she set for herself at the end of the Gaiden.

* DeathGlare: Boruto gives one to his dad when he sternly tells him not to mess up [[spoiler:Himawari's birthday party.]]

* EarnYourHappyEnding: Boruto is ultimately redeemed (especially to his father) [[spoiler:by rescuing his father and assisting the Five Kages. His Genin rank is restored and his relationship with Naruto has started to heal.]] [[SoProudOfYou Even Sasuke can't keep himself from joining in on the smiling.]]

* EvilPlan: The goal of Momoshiki and Kinshiki is to capture Naruto and obtain Kurama for their own purposes, which is to retrieve the splitted chakra of the original Shinjuu (the Tailed Beasts) to create a new Chakra Fruit for themselves. [[spoiler: They ambush Konoha during the Chuunin exams and successfully capture him, disappearing along with Naruto.]]

* EyesDoNotBelongThere: Momoshiki (pictured on the poster for the movie) wields the Rinnegan on the palms of his hands. Later after absorbing [[spoiler:Kinshiki, Momoshiki grows another Rinnegan on his forehead.]]

** After Momoshiki [[spoiler:kills and absorbs Kinshiki into himself, he takes on his servant's giant size and retains his godlike speed and ability to create Chakra Energy Weapons.]]
* TheGiant: Kinshiki is a large man who is able to effortlessly carry Momoshiki and can face off against Sasuke. [[LightningBruiser He's also quite fast for his size, being able to keep up with Sasuke and the Five Kage, while holding them all off.]]

* IAmNotMyFather: Boruto resents his father for not being around all the time due to his position as the Hokage. This even extends to the Hokage position itself, as he vehemently states that he doesn't want to become Hokage and wants to surpass his father instead. [[spoiler:Later comes to a compromise after the events of the movie, which humbles Boruto and admit how alike he really is to his dad, though he still points out that he has no intention of ever becoming Hokage.]]

* {{Kaiju}}: Momoshiki was able to combine various chakra elements into giant animals to fight on his behalf such as a fiery phoenix or a stone golem or wood snakes. These proved very useful when fighting off a [[spoiler:Susanoo clad Kurama during the film's climax.]]
* LaserGuidedKarma: Katasuke [[spoiler:suffers this fate at the end of the movie, forced to abandon his position as head of the Science Division and go into manual labor to repair the damage that Momoshiki and Kinshiki caused to the village.]]

* LetsGetDangerous: Naruto and Sasuke attack Momoshiki at full power after he [[spoiler:absorbs Kinshiki into himself. They barely win before Katasuke's interference recharges Momoshiki and gives him a second wind.]]
* ManaDrain: Momoshiki is able to absorb Ninjutsu through his Rinnegan located in his right arm and shoot them out with his Rinnegan located on his left arm. The resultant blasts carry ''a lot more energy'' than what went in, making Momoshiki very dangerous to fight and leaving one to rely purely on Taijutsu when dealing with him. Absorbing Ninjutsu also recharges Momoshiki should he ever be running low on energy. [[spoiler:In the film's climax, Boruto's clone stabs and blinds Momoshiki's right Rinnegan, taking away his ability to absorb and leaving him vulnerable to Boruto's Parent/Child Super Rasengan, contributing to his death.]]

* MesACrowd: Boruto and Sasuke are able to use the Shadow Clone Jutsu. Naruto employs his signature technique to help out around Konoha itself. [[spoiler:This backfires on Naruto at times, as Shadow Clones don't last forever and can disappear at inopportune times, such as holding and dropping his daughter's birthday cake. The real Naruto collapses from exhaustion at the end of the day, realizing how much he hurt his family by doing so.]]

** Naruto is carrying Himawari's birthday cake while Hinata and Boruto are singing a heartfelt song to her, everyone is happy...[[spoiler:and then Naruto disappears (being just a Shadow Clone) dropping the cake and upsetting everyone present, particularly Boruto.]]
** Boruto actually manages to win against [[spoiler:Shikadai in the Chunnin Exams...and gets called out by Naruto, which leads into one long HumiliationConga for the kid.]]
** It looks like Naruto managed to [[spoiler:repel the mysterious invaders and fend off their giant Energy Ball of Doom...and Boruto wakes up to find his mother injured, his sister in distress, his home village in ruins, and his father kidnapped.]]
* NeverTrustATrailer: [[spoiler: The trailers like to place heavy emphasis on Boruto's use of Lightning Release, with fans even going as far to believe Boruto learned the Chidori from Sasuke. As it turns out, Boruto channeled Lightning Release through an illegal item.]]

* NumberTwo: Kinshiki is the subordinate of Momoshiki. [[spoiler:The novel reveals that Kinshiki was something like a parent to Momoshiki. Doesn't stop Momoshiki from callously absorbing his loyal retainer, despite Kinshiki's permission.]]
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: Hinata [[spoiler: rushed after Momoshiki and Kinshiki when they kidnapped Naruto in an attempt to save him.]] Sure, she ''failed'', but the fact that she did it shows just how much she loves her husband.
* OneWingedAngel: Momoshiki [[spoiler:mutates into a giant red monstrosity of himself after absorbing Kinshiki into himself. He becomes even bigger during the final clash with Boruto.]]
* PilotMovie: This movie was essentially the pilot for the SequelSeries of ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'', ''Manga/{{Boruto}}''.

* RedEyesTakeWarning: Momoshiki's Rinnegan is colored red, as seen [[http://i.imgur.com/Nq77oUf.jpg here]]. The resemblance is similar to Kaguya's Rinne Sharingan. [[spoiler:This is later subverted after Momoshiki absorbs Kinshiki and his Rinnegan take on its "regular" color from the main series.]]

* RubberMan: One of Mitsuki's techniques involves him extending his arms to great lengths. This serves as the first hint as to who Mitsuki's parents are, which turns out to be [[spoiler:Orochimaru.]]
* ShockAndAwe: Boruto is shown utilizing Lightning Release in the film. [[spoiler:Turns out that while Boruto could potentially use Lightning Release, in addition to Wind AND Water Release, Boruto relies on a ninja tool to release lightning.]]

* TheStinger: A post-credit scene has Mitsuki reveal that [[spoiler: his parent is Orochimaru. Cue a [[FreezeFrameBonus quick]] overhead shot of Orochimaru, watching the children from above.]]

* ThisCannotBe: Combined with the most epic OhCrap face, Momoshiki wordlessly expresses this on his face when [[spoiler:he loses one of his Rinnegan and is about to get hit by Boruto's charged Rasengan.]]
* ToBeAMaster: Boruto and Sarada each have different goals with regards to being Hokage. Whereas Sarada wants to follow in Naruto's footsteps and become Hokage, Boruto wants nothing to do with the position and instead wants to become greater than his father. [[spoiler:Boruto later voices that he wants to become a powerful shinobi like his teacher Sasuke; one who protects from the shadows.]]
* WhamLine: Mitsuki revealing who his parent is. [[spoiler:It's Orochimaru, though it's unsure whether or not [[{{Squick}} Orochimaru is the father or mother.]]]]

** Naruto gets called out numerous times by Boruto for neglecting his family, in particular commenting that [[spoiler:his embarrassment over Boruto cheating wouldn't have happened in the first place if Naruto had simply been home more often and lectured his son from time to time.]]

*** When Sarada and Mitsuki, but mostly Sarada, berate Boruto for not signing up along with them and holding their team back from participating in the Chunnin Exams. Later they're both disappointed when they discover that [[spoiler:Boruto had been cheating the entire time throughout the tests.]]
*** As mentioned, Naruto and Hinata [[spoiler:catching their son in act of cheating, with the end result being Naruto embarrassing his son in front of the entire stadium when he calls him out on it.]]
* WhenYouComingHomeDad: The biggest grievance Boruto has toward his father is that his Hokage job leaves him very little time to spend with his family. [[spoiler: Hinata supports her husband all the way, but does admit to Boruto that she feels how hard it is when he's not there during important moments like Himawari's birthday.]]

* TheHero: Boruto Uzumaki, son of [[BadassInCharge Naruto]] and [[LadyOfWar Hinata]]

* ActionizedSequel: From people who complained about [[Anime/TheLastNarutoTheMovie The Last]] movie being too slow, this movie certainly ups the amount of action scenes. The final battle between [[spoiler:Naruto and Sasuke against Momoshiki, including the final blow given by Boruto]] was epic.

* TheSleepless: Naruto's new position as Hokage causes him to work overtime at his job, to the point that he's now falling asleep at his desk. Kakashi had to prod him awake.

* TheCutie: Himawari is extremely adorable; her entire family are adamant that her [[spoiler:birthday party flows smoothly]] and completely dote on her. She responds to all this attention with the biggest, most endearing smile on her face.

* WouldHurtAChild: Momoshiki was willing to kill Boruto for the sheer audacity of [[spoiler:ruining his clothes. [[DisproportionateRetribution Overreact, much?]]]]
