Rainbow Rocket Giovanni uses Mewtwo, negating that interpretation entirely.

** The internet has minorly gone nuts over an interpretation that Blue's Raticate died and was buried in Pokemon Tower. Most commonly, this was as a result of his battle with Red aboard the S.S. Anne, causing him to blame Red for it and vow to become a Pokemon Master for his dead companion. Interestingly, these interpretations tend not to focus on avenging the Raticate's death by defeating Red, but rather channeling all his sorrow into becoming a better Pokemon trainer, which would make Blue one of the most mature eleven-ish-year-olds ever. It also makes for a tragic

** A possible theory is that up until she proved herself to him, Dragonite only listened to Iris when he was sure he'd win under her guidance, but distrusted her when faced with particularly powerful opponents. The fact that he refused to listen to any of Iris' commands (and even the one time that he did was met with extreme reluctance) during the battles with Beartic and Mamoswine, but obeyed her up until Krokorok's evolution into Krooodile seems to support this.

** It could also be viewed as Charizard acting how he thought he needed to act to either get Ash's attention or play into Ash's expectation of him. Keep in mind that as Charmander he became Ash's default battler next to Pikachu and was rarely let out of his ball except to battle. But even when he was disobeying Ash, he never left Ash even though he was shown to be able to (Damian never released him but he was still able to be caught by Ash) and usually still did what was required of him, even if he acted out before and afterwards. He only started listening to Ash in full after Ash reinforced that he cared about him.
** On a closer look, the point he started disobeying Ash was not right after he evolved to Charmeleon, but rather the first time he was called to battle after that. Given his nature, he clearly took it as a grave insult that they were calling him out to lose. That might have been the trigger that resulted in his disobedient phase afterwards.
** Adding another layer to this, perhaps Charizard refused to obey Ash as his way to get his trainer to grow some backbone? During the first season, Ash clearly allowed Charizard to intimidate him, and sometimes outright begged for his help whenever called out, which Charizard might have perceived as a sign of weakness. Considering that Ash took care of him after he got frozen, even after burning his hands badly, maybe Charizard would have respected Ash more had he been more willing to discipline him whenever he misbehaved.

* There's quite a bit of speculation regarding Iris' Dragonite and his disobedient attitude. Was he abused by humans in the past? Did he once have a trainer who abandoned him for being weak like Charmander? When he let Iris capture him, was it out of gratitude for proving his innocence, or because he saw her as someone who could carry him to strong opponents? Also, while battling against Ash's Krokorok, was he finally beginnging to trust Iris, or did he not view the former as a WorthyOpponent unlike Beartic and Mamoswine until his evolution into Krookodile?

* Due to the sparse details provided by the games, the Pokémon themselves are subject to this in the games. They display little personality outside of Pokémon-Amie, natures, and characteristics, and their 8-bit cries would be fairly implausible to produce in a "real" setting, with their text cries alternating between PokemonSpeak and onomatopoeia. As such, the Pokémon's cries and personalities (both individuals and the whole species) are largely left up to the viewer's imagination (and whichever AlternateContinuity they like best, be it the anime, the manga, Origins, Generations, etc.), which helps fuel the fandom's large roleplaying and fanwork community. An example of this is Roleplay/WeAreAllPokemonTrainers, where Pokémon depiction bases are left up to the writer. What also helps is that they're generally depicted as species rather than distinct characters, which means, like real-life animals, no two Pokémon of the same species necessarily need to share the same personality, and can even have contrasting natures.

** Is Chloe's cold attitude towards Ash due to simple dislike for him (after all, they first met when Ash was electrocuted by her Yamper)? Is she jealous of his new friendship with Goh due to the two both loving Pokémon? Or both reasons?
** What exactly caused Chloe to resent Pokémon growing up? Could it have been something traumatic like with Lilie? Did it have something to do with Goh's obsession with Mew? She also constantly shoots down Ash and Goh's invitations to interact with them. Is she afraid of being seen as a newbie or laughed at because she isn't into Pokémon? Or is it because she feels like she won't get along with them due to their closeness?
** It's established in [=JN029=] that she always had a jealousy streak going on, as she hated how Yamper always got affection from everyone when she was younger. Does she not like Pokémon because it took everyone's attention away from her?
%%** It’s possible that Chloe’s aloofness is due to feeling like she’s the BlackSheep and/or TheUnfavorite because everyone in her family except her loves Pokémon. She might also be very self-conscious about herself and is afraid of being shunned or mocked because she's not into Pokemon like everyone else.

** Similarly, Ash only had one crush in his life early on with the one-shot character, Giselle, where she turns out later on to be a complete AlphaBitch (though she did get better by the end of the episode). One could make a case that after seeing how Giselle turned out, he came to the decision from that point onward that girls just aren't worth it.

Blanked out some interpertations about Chloe. May be best to wait until we get further into the season before we can know for sure.

* Despite having been seen only a number of times in the season, there’s a lot of interpretations regarding Chloe’s character.

* Despite having been seen only a number of times in the season, there’s quite a lot bit of interpretations regarding Chloe’s character.

** Why does Chloe even go to the Cerise Institute when she clearly doesn't like Pokémon in the first place? And why doesn’t she just speak up to her peers about what she does/doesn’t want to do? Does this mean that she’s not as adverse to Pokémon as she believes and/or secretly does like them? Is she afraid of being shamed or wrongfully labeled as a Pokemon hater?
** Is Chloe's cold attitude towards Ash due to simple dislike for him (after all, they first met when Ash was electrocuted by her Yamper)? Is she jealous of his new friendship with Goh due to the two both loving Pokémon and how Goh seems to have completely forgotten about her? Or both reasons?

* Because of how Professor Cerise spends more time with Ash and Goh, even paying for tickets to travel to different regions, in comparison to how he actually interacts with his daughter, does Cerise show favoritism towards the two boys because they actually like Pokemon compared to Chloe's coldness? Does Chloe honestly feel like she's TheUnfavorite in the family because of how her little brother is the more enthusiastic one?
* Speaking of being aware, is Goh fully aware of how his obsession with Mew could possibly have fractured his friendship with Chloe or that he's been pushing her away at all? He does tell Ash that something caused Chloe to stop liking them, but has he actually approached her before in regards to this?

** Some have speculated that Chloe may have autism based on some of the behavior she displays. Avoids people she doesn't know, is very introverted, refuses to try new things, shuts down when asked by her peers about her goals in life, disliked it when stray Pokémon cuddled her, and has trouble speaking up for herself

I hate Chloe; more specifically I hate how we have so much interpretation on her in compared to her screen time.

** Is Professor Cerise even aware about his daughter not wanting to follow in his footsteps or does he think she'll eventually come around to liking Pokémon? They barely, if ever, seem to interact and Chloe is shown to be quite aloof towards him.
