** Since Marinette doesn't attend school as often, Lila doesn't see her as a major threat to her plans. In fact, she sees Marinette as a potential ally in her crusade against Chloé... as well as a potential provider of free baked goods.

* In the cartoon series, Marinette, Kagami and Adrien are stuck in a [[TwoPersonLoveTriangle three]]-person LoveDodecahedron; [[BettyAndVeronica Marinette and Kagami]] are love rivals over their crush on Adrien, who in-turn has a crush on Ladybug (unaware that she is Marinette) and settles with Kagami when he (as Chat Noir) is turned down by Ladybug (who does not know that he is Adrien). In ''Fanfic/{{Lady Fairy|IDontKnowWhatsGoingOnEither}}'', both Kagami and Adrien are crushing on an unaware Marinette.

** Instead of her canonical classmates, Marinette forges friendship with Aurore, Jean and Ondine, growing particularly close to Aurore with how she unflinchingly stands up for and supports her.

** As Tatsuma has the students introduce themselves by their actual names rather than jump straight into the Quirk Apprehension Exam, Ochako never mistakenly believes Izuku's name to be "Deku". Without her redefining the name for him, the two initially remain just classmates compared to quickly becoming best friends like in canon. This is something Ochako laments about after she can only watch Izuku be accosted by Bakugo in the cafeteria, since she ''wants'' to be friends with Izuku, but hasn't had the chance to do so. They slowly begin growing closer following the USJ, even if not to the extent in canon, as Pony takes the position of Izuku's best friend instead.

** Inko and Hisashi simply had a drunken one night stand, unlike canon where they're married.

* Ochako and Bakugo are mostly on neutral terms in canon. Not so much in ''Fanfic/GreenTeaRescue'', where Ochako ''loathes'' Bakugo with every fiber of her being, since she went to Aldera Junior High for her last year of Middle School and personally witnessed how he brutally bullied Izuku. Also, Ochako and Izuku's bond is much stronger than in canon due meeting and befriending each other a whole year before attending UA.

** Izumi, Himiko, and Jin are adopted siblings in this universe, this having happened after Izumi found them in her second year of university. Having [[spoiler: joined a raid on human traffickers, she found Himiko and Jin amongst the victims and the three quickly became attached]].

** Minoru Mineta and Tsuyu Asui are shown to be a lot closer than in canon, with Tsuyu responding to Minoru's typically perverted behavior with comments just as, if not moreso, perverted. This is a result of Tsuyu being a firm believer in [[BrutalHonesty brutal honesty]].

** While Bakugo initially tries to bully Izuku like in canon, Izuku being more confident and self-assured here means he's quick to shut that down. Not to mention, Bakugo receiving actual consequences for his behavior triggers a HeelRealization earlier, and they resolve their issues and grow to have a more amicable relationship must faster than in canon.

** Katsuki's guilt over Izuku's disappearance, where he thought that Izuku had [[SuicideDare taken his advice]], leads to him apologizing for his actions much earlier, and after Izuku forgives him they become best friends. They also become close friends with Ojiro and Shouji because the four trained together in preparation for U.A's entrance exam.

** Thanks to going to extensive therapy, Izuku drops his admiration for Bakugo, and is much more willing to stand up to him.

* ''Fanfic/SunsetsSteps'': [[PlayingWithATrope Played With]], Sunset becomes friends with The Rainbooms like in canon, but becoming friends with them was harder for her in this story. In the canon series, at the end of the first movie, The Rainbooms apparently forgive Sunset and promise Twilight Sparkle to be her friend and teach her friendship. The next film shows that The Rainbooms have kept their promise and invited Sunset into their friend group despite what Sunset has done in the past, albeit with some tension between them that isn't fully resolved until the end of the movie. In this series, The Rainbooms (except for Pinkie Pie) don't want to really want to forgive Sunset after years of bullying, with Applejack distrusting her and Fluttershy and Rarity fearing and resenting her, and Rainbow partaking in the school's retribution. Only when Sunset shows genuine remorse and pays them back for the times she hurts them that the Rainbooms give their forgiveness.

** In the original series, Spike was (more or less) Twilight's adopted sibling, on top of being her trusted assistant who lives to please her, and they've known each other since he hatched and she was a child respectively. Here, he's just her roommate she meets on the way to Ponyville in the first episode that she strikes up a close friendship with, he's [[OlderThanTheyLook actually older than her in pony years]], and (while he still does the cooking and a lot of the house work) he's not her assistant and often argues with her on even footing.

* Some ''Naruto'' fanfics like ''Fanfic/TheHonouredGuest'', ''Fanfic/SonOfTheSannin'' and ''Fanfic/TruePotential'' have Naruto and Karin bonding over being Uzumakis. Exactly how they develop their relationship varies between fic to fic.

** The Sand siblings are much closer, since Rasa's plans to turn Gaara into a PersonOfMassDestruction were prevented.

** In canon, Sasuke and Hinata had almost no direct interaction with each other throughout the original series (their first direct conversation taking place in sequel series ''Manga/{{Boruto}}''), with Hinata only ever having eyes for Naruto as opposed to just about every other girl in their year-group crushing on Sasuke. In ''White Eyes'', the two of them are placed on the same team with Naruto, and while there's some initial hostility (mostly on Hinata's part), they eventually develop incredible faith and trust in each other as teammates. Ironically, when Sasuke is asked early in the story which girl he would pick to be with, he thinks for a moment and then says Hinata, precisely ''because'' she's the only one of the girls who isn't fangirling after him. (Of course, it's a Naruto/Hinata fic, so they become the OfficialCouple while Sasuke later identifies as asexual.)

** Gendo, Yui, Kyoko and Naoko and the late Dr. Katsuragi were all implied to be colleagues and friends in academia.
** Misato and Ritsuko were close friends since High School, rather than meeting each other later at University

** In canon, Hancock is madly in love with Luffy because of his kindness while Luffy remains [[ObliviousToLove ignorate of her feelings and sees her as a good friend]]. Here, Hancock is trying to seduce him to prove that her beauty cannot be ignored, while Luffy is annoyed at her efforts because he is devoted to his wife Nami.

* ''Fanfic/ResonanceDays'' Where Mami and Charlotte's relationship in canon starts and end with 'the former is eaten by the latter', in Resonance Days the two ended up in a loving romantic relationship as wives in the afterlife.

** Sayaka meets Homura in the circumstance of being her best friend's new mystically-declared wife, not a strange transfer student saying vague warnings and attacking a (seemingly) innocent animal, and while [[ItMakesSenseInContext initially freaking out when it looks like she's flashing Kyosuke]] instead sees someone whose socially awkward but well meaning instead of a aloof jerk. She later gets to see Homura as being incredibly cool when she sees her win Madoka a stuffed animals in an arcade and defeat a Witch alongside Mami.
* ''Fanfic/TheSwordOfJusticeAndTheShieldOfTime'' has Homura take on a mentor role with Sayaka after the death of Mami in an attempt to keep her stable. This leads to a much more stable relationship between the two that outright turns romantic.

With Amy one of the Snap's victims, Jake finds himself falling in love with Rosa over the following five years, [[spoiler:and when Amy is returned to life, she, Jake and Rosa ultimately form a poly relationship as Amy and Rosa each recognise that Jake genuinely loves the other and feel that they cannot make him choose]].

* ''FanFic/SashaAndTheFrogs'': In the original series, Maddie has no interactions with Ivy at all, even not knowing about her relationship with Sprig; here, she joins Sprig and Ivy together during the Firefly Formal even befriending the two properly.

* "[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/4445410/1/The-Other-Side-of-Dawn The Other Side of Dawn]]" reinvents Laura Roslin as childhood friends with William Adama's sister, and thus a long-standing friend of Adama and Tigh to the extent that she enlisted in the fleet with them. This leaves Huey resenting him for abandoning them though it's [[SubvertedTrope subverted]] with Dewey who's more on the fence about him and completely [[AvertedTrope averted]] by Louie who's giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Not only does this give Peter a reliable source of income from a more supportive source than Jameson, but he and Hank also encourage each other to improve as heroes, such as Peter's actions prompting Ant-Man to go out and deal with more street-level crime instead of focusing on pure scientific research.

** Because Amity's parents didn't force her to end her friendship with Willow, the two girls are on much better terms than in show's beginning. Willow is not only still friends with Amity at the story's beginning and is even friends with Boscha, of all people, who triclops is closer friends with her than with Amity.

** Amity has a better relationship with her mother, who has undergone AdaptationalNiceGuy in the story, than her older siblings and father. Her relationship the other three are much more strained than canon, [[spoiler:due to her having a Quirk]].
