Morgan Wick: How is The Honeymooners the ur-example?

Ununnilium: I think they mean Moonlighting. I used to mix the two up all the time, back in the day.

Looney Toons: ... ... ... How?

Mister Six: Well, the popular opinion is that it jumped the shark when they hooked up. Incidentally, the second par is a bit hard to understand. Is it saying that it can be avoided by subtly implying that the pair are going out without making it explicit? In which case, where has this happened...?

Andyroid: I think Looney Toons was asking how anyone could get The Honeymooners and Moonlighting mixed up.

Ununnilium: Basically, by not focusing on the romance.

Morgan Wick: But isn't Moonlighting a detective show and The Honeymooners a Dom Com? The shows are completely different and come from completely different eras.

Andyzero: They both had "moon" in the title, and I was tired. Stop picking on me.

Ununnilium: My line, BTW, was supposed to be a response to Mister Six, not Andyroid. Anyway, I'd never actually seen Moonlighting at the time, so...

Jisu: Before any Feinano fans come ranting about the big evil Yuunano fan beating up their OTP, it just wasn't an example. Not to mention the whole Ship Tease thing — what show were you watching if you thought it was stacked in your favour?

osh: I think Subaru/Tia and Caro/Elio shippers tend to be in this catagory, as there's no real alternative combos to do so the fandom tends to be less heated about it.

fleb: The Weasel Words in the Harry Potter example indicate it's just one of those Your Mileage May Vary Ship Wars things. Harry and Ginny didn't even have enough scenes together in the last book for the trope to actually happen.

* Some people claim that Harry and Ginny were a more believable couple before they were Strangled by the Red String.

Ramidel: Cut:

  • In the third season of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha the makers really went out of their way to almost overload the subtext between Nanoha and Fate, up to and including having them share the same bed and adopt the same girl — only for the credits of the last episode to assign them far, far away from each other, without them even minding the lightest bit.
    • They're in the military. As many military families can tell you, that means periods of unavoidable separation whilst on deployment.

The writers are still teasing us about Nano Fei. That ship will not suffer bed-death any time soon, even if Nanoha and Fate themselves are slightly Out of Focus.
