Anonymous Mc Cartneyfan: There are examples, though I would appreciate it if they were elaborated on....

Anonymous Mc Cartneyfan: Polished the description. Nothing I can do about the lack of YKTTW, but I hope what I did do helps.

  • Yeah, I figure the more people who see this thing, the more it'll get polished. It's a phenomenon totally endemic in anime and manga, and I strongly suspect that many more examples will surface from stuff I've never read. -Captain Video

Anonymous Mc Cartneyfan: Arrgh! I decided to add this to the Pacing Problems index (it's not really about exposition) and then found out that this trope might not exist if it had been YKTTW'd! (Apparently, the phenomenon is loosely covered in Arc Fatigue.) On the bright side, Zeno's Race is a better name than Arc Fatigue (which, to me, suggests a disintegrating arc); and while Arc Fatigue as a whole is subjective, Zeno's Race is objectively measurable. "This arc is taking too long" is subjective; "this work as a whole has slowed down significantly since it began" can be determined by anyone who has a sense of pacing (in the manner of the explanation of the InuYasha example).

  • Agree. Many of the phenomena I listed here in the rough draft are covered elsewhere; what I did that was different was structure them into a stylistic framework I suspect many serial readers/viewers will find depressingly familiar. Also, how do I "sign" these things - "~~~~" ? -CV
