No. Beard. Was. Grown.

I was assured that this show would be Darker And Edgier than Ben 10, but it just came across as stupid. Ben 10 was far from perfect, but it was good. It was enjoyable. This show is not. It's as if they looked at the older show, removed everything that made it worth watching and replaced it with badly written romance and a bunch of cretins who are so different from their original characters that it doesn't really feel like a sequel series. It feels like a dumb imitation.

And don't talk to me about Growing The Beard. No Beard Was Grown. They shaved off whatever stubble was left. They where hit by an updraft while above the shark and just kept on accelerating.

When not pissing all over established canon with a smile on it's face... actually, that's all it seems to do. The only way to make all the Retcons in this show make sense compared to the original, you have to track down one of the creators' message boards and ask him directly. The mere fact that they needed to do this in order understand what the hell is going on says a lot. Not to mention the fact that many of his answers are some variation of "Maybe" or Outright lies. Watch this show's Predecessor, and steer clear.

I have to admit that as someone who really enjoyed the original Ben 10, I never really got into Alien Force. And I mean I literally only saw part of the first episode before deciding "Aw Hell naw."

I don't know. The idea of Kevin as a hero is alone ridiculous. I mean, seriously, wtf. Augf.

Thank you so very, very much for saying all this stuff so I don't have to.

Although I did attend the San Diego convention panel on this, and it sure looks like they learned their lesson, and are reestablishing everything that made the show great in the firstplace.

Really? Any sign of Vilgax?

Any sign of Vilgax? Are you kidding? Cartoon Network has been advertesing the Alien Force Season 3 premiere "The Vengeance of VILGAX" all over the place! Not to mention confirmations of Gwen's magical enemies Hex and Charmcaster returning, and the plot FINALLY giving attention to the fact that Kevin was evil and still has some issues to work out.

And while I wouldn't be quite as hard on Alien Force as you are (season 2 did show some considerable improvement over the very mediocre first season, particularly with the episode "Voided"), I agree that Alien Force just isn't as fun or well put-together as the original. I guess it's because the original creators don't have much of a role here, it's all Glen Murakami and Dwayne Mc Duffie (the latter who, as you pointed out, isn't very reliable.)

I hope Season 3 really DOES grow the beard for this show, especially seeing as apparently the 20 episodes in this season will be the only ones left before CN whores out on yet ANOTHER Ben 10 series.

The main thing that annoys me with AF is the art style. Especially Kevin, who's power is pretty much to just become ugly. Ben 10, while it lacked a truly good storyline, was so much fun to watch. They completely remade this show to be Darker And Edgier when it didn't need to be. And they completely redid Kevin's and Gwen's powers, which was extremely annoying. The way they defeat the Nazi wannabees was a Missed Moment Of Awesome, in my opinion. Not only do they become more ridiculously ugly than they were already, but it just seemed to end too quickly. The storyline doesn't feel like they put any effort into it and just decided to copy bits and pieces of other things without even trying. As of right now, I can't feel any respect for AF. Hopefully, Vilgax will be able to change it.

I just saw the trailer for The Vengeance Of Vilgax, and I must say... it looks like shit.

Vilgax, dude, what did they do to you? His kickass visage is gone, and giving him additional powers somehow makes him look significantly less of a Badass (Vilgax requires no powers other than his fantastic strength to destroy the wretched Ben Tenyson!) They took away his awesome voice, gave him a code of honour. All that stuff about "His legal right" to destroy earth? Bullshit. (Vilgax destroys whatever the fuck he feels like, and you pathetic humans cannot stop him!)

Oh, and he makes jokes now.

...

Seriously?

Maybe I'm misremembering, but Vilgax always seemed the type to make really brutal jokes. Not "A priest, a rabbi, and a duck walk into a bar" type jokes, but more like "Let me give you a hand" after ripping off somebody's arm and throwing it at them.

And I saw nothing to imply a code of honor in the preview I saw at San Diego.

At least Generator Rex looks awesome.

Maybe so, but:

“Ben Tennyson, I’ve come to kill you and destroy the earth. (Beat.) Is this a bad time?”

(Laugh Track goes off in my head)

And as for the Honour thing, a big deal is made of him “Exercising his Legal right” to destroy Earth with his fleet if Ben loses to him in a fair fight. I have several issues with that. Firstly, the old Vilgax didn’t care for such things as “Laws”. Secondly, he didn’t seem to care if a fight was fair, not to mention that any fight involving Vilgax automatically became a Curb Stomp Battle. Ben never stood a chance against him in any of their encounters; he only won with outside help. “Fair” didn’t enter into it. I know Alien Force Ben’s aliens seem to be more powerful, but so, apparently, is Vilgax. If their fight features Ben getting annihilated (initially, at least) then some hope will be restored.

None of those seem entirely outside of Vilgax's character to me. "Bad time" seems more like him taunting Ben to me, and I'm presuming he's completely lying about the fair fight and doesn't give a crap about the "legal right."

But we'll know for sure in less than 12 hours, so hey.

Aaaaaaaaaaand Wretchkin was sadly right. "The Vengeance of Vilgax" was a HUGE dissapointment. The action was good and all, but Vilgax adhering to the galactic legal code the entire way through? No, just no. An Evil Overlord does not do that.

At this rate, I'm only sticking around to see if Hex and Charmcaster are still cool. If they're screwed up, I'm done with this show.

Really? I won't bother seeing it, then. "Is this a bad time?" would be a good line if he was saying it when he knew it was and just wanted to taunt Ben, but, if as you made it seem, he used it as though he was genuinely sorry... Screw Alien Force.

Oh God... he was defeated by DIAMONDHEAD? The same alien form whose face he shattered in his first (proper) appearance? Wait, all hope is not yet lost! Ask Dwayne hinted that he might have been lying, and will be back at some point! Please, I need to believe it... Fuck it. Fuck this show, fuck these characters (who in no way resemble anyone from a far superior show), fuck Dwayne Mc Duffie and his little FAQ too. Don't cry for me. I'm already dead.

@Roihu: Er, he wasn't geuinely sorry with that "Is this a bad time?", that WAS to taunt Ben. The problem was that after the battle was through, he complied with the galactic legal code and agreed to never attack Earth again, even though he had a huge armade in position to do so. He's EVIL, why didn't he just tell his armade to attack anyway? His departing threat that he'll find some way to get revenge on Ben yet sounded extremely half-hearted too.

Why? WHY!?! They Just Didnt Care at it's finest, ruining Vilgax like that just is not right.

Okay, overreaction. I've apologized several months later , but it's an apology, I'm sorry.

What they did still wasn't as forgivable.

I completely agree. I hate this show and every thing to do with it. Instead of magic, Gwen is an ALIEN. Kevin was restored to his former looks and gained new pwers with NO explaination. Ben apparently started taking ritalin and his funny died with the first series. Kevin switched sides for no reason. Thing that had absolutely NOTHING to do with aliens, now are ALL aliens. And the galactic enforcers brutally murdered? There was an episode of the original series that went 20 years into the future, and they were still there. And Kevin wasn't a good guy. And you know what else? GWEN WAS MAGICAL.

Not only that, but they did unessesary shit instead of having plot. There ARE other plumbers. That's their job.

In one episode of alien force, Ben was watching sumo slammers and pointed out EVERYTHING wrong with the series. They have yet to fix it.

I also HATE the art style of AF in comparison to Ben 10. Gwen and Charmcaster look like chunky female department store mannequins than actual characters, where earlier in Ben 10 they looked relatively human. Ben looks TOO realistic now, like they just photoshopped some teenage boy's head onto a body, and Kevin—he looks like a freaking nightmare.

I'M GOING TO GET OUT OF THE U.S, WITH OR WITHOUT YOU!!!
