Whoops! Stabby!

Ah, Prototype. The ultimate in Cathartic gameplay. The one game that never punishes you for killing everything in motherfucking sight.

It's the ultimate stress reliever! Especially in New Game Plus! Hell of a lot of fun...But there's also those missions. They range from the semi-interesting, stabbing and killing mindlessly, or eating people. And those damned missions against the military. How I hate that military. And the Hunters!

Also, the plot actually does a pretty good job of guiding you through the game. It's actually somewhat interesting, if a little contrived. Also, pathos doesn't work with Alex, especially with you at the helm, but if you accept and embrace GameplayAndStorySegregation, you might enjoy what little plot there actually is.

But then again, since when did you play games like this for the plot? You just want to to eat people! So go ahead. Feast

What's interesting is that while the game doesn't punish you, it doesn't exactly explicitly encourage or force you, either (like, say, Manhunt or Mad World). It's quite possible to go through the whole thing goofing off on rooftops, or restricting your evil to...somewhat deserving targets. I mean, I got the most fun boinging around the skyscrapers of Manhattan and plotting pinpoint strikes to avoid, or at least lessen, collateral damage. It's flexible that way.

Who doesn't dream of being able to knock bad guys out of the sky with thrown cars or cut down on time in transit by sprinting up the closest wall? Prototype is justly famous for its hilariously conscienceless gore, but it's also chock full of good clean superpowered fun.

That is true. You can just have a shitload of fun without killing a metric ton of civilians. And yes, Although I didn't mention it, I did enjoy the flexibility. It's still fun to kill a ridiculous amount of civilians, though.

"Chock full of good super power fun"? I tried avoiding casualties, it's completely impossible in a game where you can accidentally kill 3 people by landing within 50 feet of them.

I mean that you can backflip off things and throw cars at helicopters in addition to murdering stuff, and that's where I got my fun. The original review reads as though murdering stuff is all there is to it, and people act like the only appeal the game could have is in devouring innocents, as though the game only lets you progress if you do and that's the only possible action you can take, but there is a more-than-decent sandbox game in there. And violent. Decent and violent.

Well, the collateral damage is actually kinda realistic. I mean, really... Do you really think that when some guy with super strength fights another, equally strong individual, there won't be some collateral damage? Like when one of them punches the other so hard that it sends him flying, and the guy who flew ends up landing on some poor sap's head; or when some car thrown by a villain crushes a bunch of civilians because the hero had to dodge and didn't realize there were people behind him?

You can still minimize casualties, and just the intention already makes you something of a hero.

Anyway, it's nice that someone made a review about this game. I think it gets less recognition than it deserves. Good to know that there are others beside me that care about it.

I must have spent hours just punching zombies and saving civilians.

That didn't stop me from using them as medkits.

In fact, sometimes I'd go out of my way to save one guy, only to eat them 30 seconds later to heal from a rocket.
