The game is for 3-5 heroes, and balances/enforces this by making a lot of villain attacks and actions based on the number of heroes in a game, so that if you are playing with 6 or 7 heroes, it's actually harder than when you're staying within the normal limits.
Is there a trope for that?
Hide / Show RepliesI dunno. Might want to ask in the Trope Finder.

"Hope for our world, tragedy for another." Hide / Show RepliesOn the one hand, I kind of want to do a Cauldron review, to express my mixed feelings and long-term frustrations with the Sentinels-fanfiction-equivalent it represents. On the other hand, I don't know if posting that review here is the right policy, and it doesn't have its own trope page.
Hide / Show RepliesYou definitely could make a Cauldron page with its own tropes, but yeah since it's effectively fanfiction I'm not sure reviewing it on this page would be apropos.
...I guess if you wanted to you could alternatively create a Fanfic Recs subpage and then review it there, but IMHO making a full trope page would be more appropriate if you wanted to undertake such a task.
Such a labor of love should definitely better be left to someone who loves it, I think. I respect the labor that went into it, but... I don't really love it enough for that.
If you wanted to make a SOTM forum page and put your review there, I'd read it and post there, for what it's worth.
Hello tropers.
Given that christopher and adam have begun delving into disparation stories (as in: alternate universes and the like) it would seem appropriate to have somewhere to put the characters mentioned in there. Also: there are many characters who do not show up in the card game but are mentioned in the letters page. What about them? Should we simply ignore them? Personally, I thonk they deserve to be chronicled. What do you think, fellow tropers?
Sincerily, Backset
"Hope for our world, tragedy for another." Hide / Show RepliesMost of those characters who haven't appeared are fairly minor, and could be easily handled via the existing mini-nemeses section or a Sir Not Appearing In This Film example on the main page.
Yeah, but then we have some pretty major ones. Like Iron Curtain aaaaannnnddd.... I was gonna say iron legacy verse ambuscade but then I realized that could technically be covered under regular ambuscade.
Of course, that's also ignoring disparation characters, quite a few of whom will be getting detailed in, well, detail in future letters page episodes (and disparation dark watch has already had an episode).
"Hope for our world, tragedy for another."With Disparation characters, like I said in PM, I'm in favor of writing up a subpage simply because we have so many (we'll have all the Quando? Ahora! characters and Inverse-a-verse characters this month, we'll likely have the Xtremiverse and the rest of Arataki's universe one day, etc.) and they're actually laid out in enough detail to get tropes out of them.
But people like Emily Parsons, Caleb Greene, Chuck Burnside, etc. I could see making a "Minor Characters" section on the Other page instead (since they're not mini-nemeses or even all antagonists). I could also see making a similar section for the non-major Singular Entities we seem to be gaining a growing collection of.
Edited by RonnieArmitageI am also in favor of this.
But that leaves the minor (and in some cases major) non-card game villains. Like the aformentioned iron curtain and night snake. What might we do with them?
"Hope for our world, tragedy for another."They probably could just all go in the same "Minor Characters" section on "Other", since "Other" is just a "neutral" page.
O Kay, so if nobody has a problem with this I'm thinking I might add a disparation page to the character directory after the inverse-verse episode. All against say I. If you're for it, well If you're for it then I'm just gonna assume your fine with it regardless of whether or not you voice that. Wait! Am I even allowed to do this? Is this something you need like, clearance for. And my self-doubt has set in. Nevermind.
"Hope for our world, tragedy for another."Nope you don't need formal permission, you can just go for it, and other people will tweak or add to it as needed.
Alright! Now I just need to find time.
"Hope for our world, tragedy for another."Should we really be calling this page Sentinels of the Multiverse? The game has expanded into a franchise, Sentinel Comics, containing the aforementioned card game, a tactics game, an rpg, and soon a video game. And this page seems to chronicle all of that (except the video game. We don't really know enough about it to trope it). So what I'm saying is: should we change the name of this page to sentinel comics? It really goes beyond the card game.
"Hope for our world, tragedy for another." Hide / Show RepliesI'd be inclined to keep it as it is just because a lot more people are going to be familiar with "Sentinels of the Multiverse" than "Sentinel Comics".
Especially since the card game and RPG kind of blend together and Tactics seems to be stillborn at this point. The Sentinels of Freedom video game is about the only thing I could see getting a fully separate page out of at this point in time.
Removed this from the page:
- Five-Man Band: Due to the nature of the game, each game will have a different set of 3-5 heroes, so multiple different versions of this can and will exist, but the Freedom Five (the universe's Avengers or Justice League) fits this to a T.
- The Hero: Legacy.
- The Lancer: The Wraith.
- The Big Guy: Bunker.
- The Smart Guy: Absolute Zero.
- The Chick: Tachyon.
- Sixth Ranger: Unity
- Tempest takes over this role in the Iron Legacy dark future
- Also, there are the Prime Wardens, assembled by Argent Adapt and comprised of himself, Tempest, Haka, Fanatic, and Captain Cosmic. However, it's a little harder to say for certain who fits each role given that all we know about the team is their alternate cards and a single other image.
As stated in the edit reason, Tachyon is an Omnidisciplinary Scientist, one of the team's heavy hitters, and she's never treated as the heart. If anything, Legacy is The Heart. And Absolute Zero's a janitor who had an industrial accident. He's not The Smart Guy at all. If anything, he's closer to The Sixth Ranger, joining up after the Freedom Four are formed, and being hot-headed (HAH) and rebellious compared to the others.
Edited by MrDeath Hide / Show RepliesIf anything, it would make more sense to keep the first three and just swap Absolute Zero and Tachyon. Tachyon pretty clearly fits "The Smart Guy", and Absolute Zero matches "The Heart" pretty well.
He really doesn't. He's not the moral center of the group. In fact, he didn't even want to be a hero, is mainly acting as a hero because he has to pay off his suit, and the quotes on all the cards paint him as more of an Anti-Hero than any of the others.
Although he comes to consider the team his family by the time of Sentinels Tactics, overcoming his initial emotional withdrawal.
Yes, but that doesn't make him the emotional and moral center of the team.
Regarding the page image: Once the Definitive Edition of the game comes out, should we change it to the cover of Definitive Edition?
