The larger Big Finish's output grows the more this is going to be necessary. Would it make more sense to have it mimic BF's own classification system (not that that doesn't need some work...)?
Torchwood's section is tricky because, with the exception of Aliens Among Us and God Among us, it's all technically under the 'worlds of Doctor Who' umbrella and adding audio episodes to the recap section of Torchwood's main entry page might be more confusing in the long run. I could see it maybe having its own audio/radio tab, though.
Recap for The Diary of River Song? I was about to do it but I'm confused on how to do the formating.
I mentioned this in the description of my last edit, but should we include folders for Doctors 1-3? It might be nice for people who want an index of each Doctor's stories, plus with releases like The Third Doctor Adventures there should at least be a folder for the Third Doctor.
Something isn't right somewhere on the page with the indexes. I added more of them to help sort it out.
Should this be broken up to multiple pages? it was over 90k when I first came upon it.
Hide / Show RepliesNah, 90k is not really that much. 300-400k is more like it.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanSo, where will the Big Finish Doctor Who Fiftieth Anniversary release The Light at the End be filed? It'll feature all Eight classic series Doctors, after all.
Hide / Show RepliesUm, you know the first three are dead, right? It only stars 4 through 8.
From what I've heard, they've been recast by impersonators. I definitely recall something from one of the retweets on Big Finish's Twitter feed mentioning Frazer Hines impersonating at least Two. Not listened to the thing yet to know what actually happened.
Either way, the CD/download's synopsis specifically refers to "the first eight incarnations of the Doctor" and Tardis Data Core on Wikia maintains that Doctors One through Three at least feature, even if Hartnell, Troughton and Pertwee don't.
Edited by 151.230.173.121Well, Night of the Doctor poses a conundrum. Charlie and Lucy, among other companions, get mentioned! Which makes the Eighth Doctor Big Finish audios Canon. As such, would they now be considered part of the Whoniverse instead of Doctor Who Expanded Universe?
Hide / Show RepliesExpanded Universe means an extension away from the main or original media (i.e. television for Doctor Who; television and film for Star Trek; video games for Mass Effect, Halo and Warcraft). That's it. Canon has nothing to do with the actual definition of an "expanded universe". There's never really been a consistent built-up universe or canon in the TV show (as it doesn't have a single owner or lead writer), and the word "canon" has never existed on any (TV) production team's lips.
Edited by 151.230.173.121That's where you're wrong. Nicholas Briggs, Big Finish showrunner and Dalek voice actor, actually said on Twitter that the Big Finish audios are canon. As such, I see that TV Tropes no longer considers Big Finish to be expanded universe. For the Eighth Doctor at least, audio IS the original media. Only his chronologically first and last stories are on TV.
I'm not going to argue what is or isn't canon regarding any Eighth Doctor media, be it audio, prose or comic strips. I was just saying that specifically Russell T Davies and Steven Moffat (you know, the writer of "The Night of the Doctor"?) and their television production teams deliberately avoid defining one.
My point was that canon and non-canon has nothing to do with what defines an expanded universe. Several expanded universes (I can't name specific ones, but I assume Star Wars?) are either canon or "canon until a higher level of canon overrules it". Series.Doctor Who is one continuous-ish television show with 33 seasons and several specials, which have overruled and retconned itself.
If this wiki had Series.Doctor Who 1963, Film.Doctor Who (or Film.Doctor Who 1996) and Series.Doctor Who 2005, then maybe I'd buy your argument that the Eighth Doctor audios supersede Film.Doctor Who as the main "Eighth Doctor" media in some way. As it stands, though, the 1963 version, the television movie and the 2005 version are all Series.Doctor Who, which makes Eight part of the long sort-of-continuous TV series strand which started in 1963 and has a new 34th season scheduled for 2014.
Personally, of course I'd count both the depiction and the scripting from the 1996 movie as the "original". From 2001-2005, he had three separate, ongoing stories with separate ongoing companions from Big Finish, in Doctor Who Magazine and in novels. All of them draw from the TV movie if not in characterisation (I'm only mildly familiar with the audio plays and not at all the other two), then in appearance considering what's illustrating the covers.
Edited by 151.230.173.121I have made the first entry, Spare Parts. It is really rough, and needs lots of work, but I tired. Hope I've got the ball rolling.
Hide / Show RepliesI've done a one for Zagreus, but being a newbie I don't know how to index it. Anybody? P.S. Respect to Dinsdale & Cakeor Death for starting this!
Having not heard much of Big Finish, and copying episode titles from Wikipedia, I'm not fully versed in all the arcs and plots. According to Wikipedia, two Fifth Doctor and two Sixth Doctor adventures had one-episode stories on them which were part of a four-episode arc/story. If someone thinks the way I've labelled this in the recap list could be done better, feel free.
Also! How does the format Recap / Big Finish Doctor Who NNN Title look, for entries in the main series? For example, Big Finish Doctor Who 0002 Phantasmagoria . I favor this because other series are always labeled as such (e.g. "Lost Stories"), so it won't be ambiguous if we leave the main series unmarked.
Also, I think multi-Doctor stories should be listed under the earliest Doctor to appear, and subsequent listings should just redirect to there.
What do you all think?
Hide / Show RepliesWhoever made this—I bloody love you.
Huzzah!
ETA: I see it was Dinsdale. You rock.

I think there needs to be some serious discussion about splitting this up into multiple pages, it's too huge and impossible to navigate right now. My suggestion would be:
1. Actual Doctor Who stories, part 1: The monthly range, its replacement range, and all ongoing ranges — the First Doctor Adventures, the Third Doctor Adventures, the Fourth Doctor Adventures, the Early Adventures (these could possibly go on #3 instead), the ongoing adventures of the Eighth Doctor from the Lucie stories up to Stranded, the War Doctor, the Ninth Doctor Adventures, the Tenth Doctor Adventures
2. Actual Doctor Who stories, part 2: Special ranges/releases, anything that can't be classed by Doctor — the Lost Stories, the Stageplays, Novel Adaptations, special releases such as The Four Doctors, The Light at the End and The Legacy of Time
3. The Companion Chronicles, Doctor Chronicles and Short Trips
4. Various DW spin-offs (Benny, Counter-Measures, Jago & Litefoot, the various Master ranges, etc.)
5. Torchwood (Why is this here anyway?)
