Should I cut that out? I don't really think it has something to do with the negative reputation of the anime.
- Inverted with Soichiro Hoshi; while Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny sold well and his character remained quite popular in the Newtype rankings, the negative reputation the anime had sunk his career to role reprisals and being notably absent from many big name anime series that his fellow voice actors have taken roles in.
Were James Marsden and Noomi Rapace's careers really affected by Superman Returns and Prometheus? Marsden was never anything more than a character actor (and unlike what the entry states, has appeared in a number of projects since 2006) while Rapace seems to have fallen under Hollywood's inability to use European actresses well (see Monica Bellucci or Eva Green for more), choosing instead to use the same few American actresses in every movie (just how many movies can feature Jennifer Lawrence or Chloe Grace Moretz?).
Edited by 99.122.86.187 More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/Andy Samberg won a Golden Globe for his work on Brooklyn Nine Nine, plus he's still active with The Lonely Island. Does he really count as a fallen star for one movie?
Hide / Show RepliesSamberg is much like examples such as Tom Selleck, David Caruso and Andy Kaufman: actors who have a home on television but simply cannot translate to the screen (though Selleck came close). Hollywood tried to make Samberg a star in film twice (Hot Rod and Thats My Boy) and both attempts failed. And to make matters worse, The Lonely Island (his comedy troupe) also had failures behind the camera with MacGruber and The Watch.
So yes, it counts in that what works in one medium simply doesn't in another. Samberg will continue to be a presence in television but his chances at gaining stardom in film have dried up.
Edited by 99.122.86.201 More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/The comment on Adam Sandler's career being in the garbage heap after Little Nicky is definitely not true. Other than a few flops (Eight Crazy Nights and That's My Boy), Sandler has been consistently successful at the box office. Even the universally panned Jack and Jill made money (though less than the $80-120 million expected from his films).

- Soichiro Hoshi in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny. While the series wasn't a total flop, the nefarious reputation by the hardcore fans and production staff definitely derailed Soichiro from some major roles from the major series with the only recent notable roles being role reprisals.
From what I heard, Destiny was successful in Japan (although a lot of Americans hated it for obvious reasons).
Edited by DivineRose125 I'm a manga otaku! Hide / Show RepliesIt was seen by the producers and higher ups as being very fracturing for most of the VA cast, Naomi Shindo refused to reprise her role for Cagalli after Destiny and Kira's voice actor haven't gotten many good roles after SEED except for reprising roles in anime (hell he was the only one absent in Star Driver amongst the all star VA cast0. If that wasn't derailment, I don't don't know what was.
But he did Keiichi from Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni and Sanada from Sengoku Basara though.
Edited by DivineRose125 I'm a manga otaku!Sengoku Basara was role reprisal from the game series as well as the Drama CD for Higurashii. Both of which were before Destiny was concluded. The series didn't do badly, but it did gave a blackmark to Souichiro.
Does anyone have evidence that Super Mario Bros really ruined Dennis Hopper's career? From the looks of it, it seems like a mere Money, Dear Boy role for him.
I think that there should be a minimum of years before a recent actor can be added in. For example you can't really tell if someone's career is damaged by a flop they had one year ago. I think the description should have a disclaimer to wait at least five or so years to properly judge.
