Should this trope have a real life section? The trope is a creative decision where 'red hair + green eyes = a plot important character' but the real life section is just 'important people that happen to have red hair and green eyes'.
Seeing as how this trope is about physical description and is, of itself, fairly self-explanatory, is it really possible for use of it to be a No Context Example? Asking specifically in regards to the Finders Keepers character page, where the trope was removed from the (red-haired and green-eyed) main character.
Hide / Show RepliesIf you leave it as a No Context Example (which is not allowed), it's impossible to tell whether the example counts and it contributes nothing to the page. Just explain she's the main character.
I was thinking of adding Shirley Fenette◊ from Code Geass. The reason I hesitate is that Code Geass has some characters that fall under You Gotta Have Blue Hair, though hair colors are usually pretty normal.
So I tried to point out the flaws in Mako's character... then I was crucified Hide / Show RepliesWait what? I don't quite understand what makes that a reason for her to be disqualified. Her character design (and name) were based on that of Anne Shirley, who had the same hair and eye color. I don't see how other characters' hair colors makes a difference on her, is all.
The second qualifier of the trope is:
The character is not part of a work where You Gotta Have Blue Hair.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerWell, yeah, there were some talks on the YKTTW on how we shouldn't really have this page and so, but I decided to let time decide: if it withers away and dies, so be it, if it keeps growing, then the argument will be resolved on its own.
Hide / Show RepliesTo reiterate, my comment on the YKTTW was: "Um...this sounds like Troper Appeal. I've never heard of green-eyed redheads being distinct from the usual redhead stereotypes, archetypes or tropes. I think you just have a buttload of examples because—despite the fact that they are rare statistically speaking—green eyes and red hair are often a package deal."
Screaming along at mach .2 with my hair on fire. The two traits (green eyes & red hair) don't always coöccur, in real life or fiction. The image on the green eyes page is of a black person with green eyes, and red hair doesn't necessarily go hand-in-hand with green eyes. I like the way we have separate articles, and I hope we don't collapse them.
I think it should stay. While probably not in real life, this trope is always prevalent in fiction a lot. Because some people just like that type. How about he have a page about Blue-eyed blondes?
Knowing what little I do of color theory, I can say red and green are complements of each other on the color wheel. It pops up because it already has natural aesthetic appeal. At least, that'd be my theory. Can you think of any other color of eyes that'd go well with red hair? Even if you started using them, people might prefer the green eyes anyway.
Blue eyes. Those are nice complimentary colors!
Hazel eyes, perhaps not as aesthetic, but a more muted variant of green eyes (and since it combines spitfire personality with an underlying potential, it's quite a nice character-combo!)
Brown eyes...they are very sexy* . And on a redhead...Oh boy!
But you're right, green just goes nice with red hair.
Edited by StoogebieDoesn't Kate Winslet's role in 1997's Titanic fall under this trope? Her hair was dyed red, and having checked (and recently seen the film) screenshots, it seems as though she wore green contacts (as "Old Rose"'s eyes were a much lighter, rheumier green).
Thoughts?
