I am unclear as to why gurochan isn't linked. Is it to prevent edit wars of people trying to remove the link? Is there a TV Tropes policy about linking to NSFW sites? Most of the other links on the page are NSFW, to the point it is stated to be the norm. Is it because the site is down so often? Or something else?
I'm not necessarily saying we should link to it, but I'd like to know why we shouldn't so I can have a more complete understanding of the rules around here.
Hide / Show RepliesComing to see history, who have such biased view on homosexuality board doesn't look like browsing on the actual board. But the history only show change, I can't even see when that paragraph was added
With regards to which link?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanGoing to do some pruning on the 8chan listing on the main page. It's pointlessly longer than the other examples and clearly written with bias, being used to largely make the site look bad. Any objections?
Hide / Show RepliesSo, how come we have an article for the relatively new Pony boards but we're keeping the (actually significantly larger) amount of information on 4chan on a general catch-all imageboards page?
Hide / Show RepliesBecause 4Chan hates us for some reason, and the staff doesn't want to start a war by having a page on them.
Wow, you're telling me the staff is actually intimidated by 4chan? That's letting them win, you can't just let them win.
Find the Light in the DarkNot intimidated, they'll just dispose of the page, since they're not into /b/-tard idiocy and attracting trolling from channers.
They did something similar to the Something Awful page, though that was more rival-oriented. SA has a thread dedicated to mock TV Tropes.
I saw it, and while I kinda agreed with most of it, they came off as way too condescending for my taste. So now I'm all for us tearing them to ribbons with articles.
Find the Light in the DarkWe are not getting into wars with SA again, thank you.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.Back in 2011 and other episodes. Best not to dwell too much on it.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman4chan doesn't really care about TV Tropes. If anything, I've seen anon openly referencing tropes and nothing has happened.
I can kill you. You won't be happy, but you'll be dead. Why is the general description of /pol/ and such so negative? Isn't it a bit of a YMMV thing? Most pro-/pol/ edits I've made have been generally reverted or outright deleted. Can the admins give some sort of reason why?
I think there should be a page for 4chan too, especially if there is also a page for Reddit and Something Awful, but I wouldn't want to be the name associated with it. It would have to be done more anonymously, and locked afterword.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult. Hide / Show RepliesWhy not just give 4chan its own page? It's by far the most important Image Board out there.
Hide / Show Replies3rd. 'specially since ponychan has its own already. Why does some random spinoff get its own page when THE image board does not. (hell, /b/ could just about earn its own page.
When this page was first created, it was decided not to have a page for 4chan for fear that it would draw anti-4chan vandalism and/or that 4chan users would target it for vandalism if they didn't like what they read. I don't know if that philosophy still holds today.
Edited by Filby Groovy. As long as we don't say something stupid like 9gag or memebase is better than 4chan we should be good. The worst that would happen is /b/ would try to raid the page which really isn't all that bad. Besides who can really hate or have good reason to harm TV Tropes?
Oh, I dunno... Something Awful for one?
That said, I definitely wouldn't mind seeing a 4chan article as long as it's not NSFW.
Edited by Icarael "Stealing is a crime and drugs is a crime too BUT if you steal drugs the two crimes cancel out and it’s like basically doing a good."If there is a 4chan page, it would be best to lock it, to prevent the vandalism mentioned before. It's certainly important enough to get a page.
Something like this: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Fourchan/Fourchan?
More like Website/FourChan.
"Stealing is a crime and drugs is a crime too BUT if you steal drugs the two crimes cancel out and it’s like basically doing a good."Just don't make the page. The one deadguy linked was cut pretty promptly — it's not worth all the potential problems and the idea has been shot down. Mentioning it here is fine.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.I'm pretty sure Something Awful doesn't have some kind of irrational website vandalism vendetta against TV Tropes. From what I've seen it's looking more and more likely we have one against them, but I suspect that's an unknown rival setup.
About Choroy Pride:
I posted information about it some days ago. I know my grammar is not good, but it seems that users from that site are starting to add internal jokes from that site here.
Could I request somebody that speaks natively, to fix my grammar? And deleting the section where it mentions the admin payment and the camwhore. That is information that we don't want here... I think, but if I delete it myself, it will turn into an edit war and that isn't the idea.
Edited by Chileanon Hide / Show RepliesI corrected a couple grammar points and removed some unnecessary information; it doesn't look like it should cause an edit war, but I'm keeping an eye on it. Does it need more cleanup?
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.Just a note to any writers out there. If you're planning on posting on any of these don't post anonymously. Doing so will likely hurt your writing skills. (But Your Mileage May Vary.)
Hide / Show RepliesTripfags aren't especially welcome though. They're seen as having huge egos. It's not enough that people like your story, you have to get credit for it too.
xkcd's holistic browser deposited me on 4chan, where I saw this description that makes it feel all warm and fuzzy:
">Note that we're careful about discussing them, since attempts at categorising them sometimes lead to bringing down an army of the mischievous jerks to mess things up. "
The only time something remotely like that happened was when /co/ members came here to correct an entry. 4chan is a porn site with media discussion and a few niche topics, not Voldemort.
Edited by aagarrrr Hide / Show Replies>4chan is a porn site with media discussion and a few niche topics...
Ever been to 4chan? Porn is not the only thing there, especially if you are on one of the non-porn boards. /b/ will have maybe one porn thread on the first page, and nudie pics in any given thread, but why o' why would you go to /b/ for porn?
The information in the description is incorrect:
>Online forums that exist expressly for the purpose of posting images.
There are many imageboards, even on 4chan itself, that are for discussion with images to back it up, rather than for just posting images. Examples on 4chan include /tg/ (which is for discussion of traditional games) and /mu/ (which is for discussion of music). Examples outside of 4chan include Tohno-chan (various subjects) and Bunbunmaru (various subjects).
>What all boards have in common is using the same distinctive layout and interface from 2ch, with the sidebar of various boards on the left, listing each board in the simple URL theme, usually a contraction of their topic name.
4chan hasn't had a sidebar in AGES, and many other imageboards (such as again Tohno-chan and Bunbunmaru) also have their boards listed at the top of the page like 4chan.
>The only real standing rules of just about every imageboard in existence is that its users can't post anything considered illegal in a site's area of hosting (many admins turn a blind eye to things like unauthorized filesharing, however), and that its users can't post child pornography (if it's not already illegal anyway).
Not everywhere. An imageboard is a kind of internet forum, and like other internet forums, they vary greatly in their rules and purposes. Starting a Call of Duty thread on Pooshlmer (a Touhou imageboard) would be a good way to get banned, while even some 4chan boards delete off-topic threads. Porn boards also tend to ban for posting the wrong kind of porn on the wrong board. Although from what I've seen imageboards always have looser moderation than traditional forums, there definitely is moderation on many boards.
>Note that we're careful about discussing them, since attempts at categorising them sometimes lead to bringing down an army of the mischievous jerks to mess things up.
Not every board is /b/ (although some other 4chan boards have come close in recent years). It's pretty clear that the entire description is written mostly by people who think 4chan = /b/ = all imageboards, which is simply not true.
Edited by VDZ Hide / Show RepliesFrom the page description: "[F]or these reasons, one could see imageboards to be the antithesis of social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook."
I personally can't think of a more awesome description of 4chan than "antisocial networking."
