Late answer to the topic: I know of one such example: Satomi Yajima (from Advanced V.G. and the OVA), who's already mentioned on the page itself. Hers is used to reflect that she and her brother live in poverty, as well as to show she's a tomboy.
I wouldn't mind failure so much, if I didn't fail so much.

How short is short? New 52 Supergirl is given as an example, but her hair was usually drawn as around shoulder length◊, which I'm not sure I'd call "boyish" (it's longer in Rebirth). Her hair was about the same length in the Silver Age, and Depending on the Artist was sometimes noticeably shorter◊.

Boyish Short Hair can be a sign of the female character suffering from poverty, or at least considerable financial troubles that she cannot afford the expenses of maintaining long hair, right?
