Would the Distaff Counterpart to this trope be Bespectacled Bitch Girlfriend?
If not, what would be the proper term, then?
Edited by 216.99.32.42 Hide / Show RepliesI don't know if anyone has come up with one. The Distaff Counterpart to Bastard Boyfriend is Abusively Sexy Woman, to get things rolling. I don't think this gets past Rare Female Example territory, since the whole "dominating their partner and forcing them to do sexy things they get off on but don't want" thing is much harder for a female character to pull off, except maybe in Yuri (because of Women Are Delicate and A Man Is Always Eager).

Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered. If no one can give me a good reason to keep Kyouya Ootori off of this list, I'm going to add him again (even though he was taken off). He plays this up as much as he can, going so far as to pretend he's going to rape Haruhi. I fully believe the "cool, glasses-wearing type" label the Bisco Hatori gives him is supposed to refer to this "fetish" in Japanese culture. Kyouya abuses his relationships with people, pretends to be a misanthrope entirely obsessed with money (though we know this to be untrue, especially when it comes to Tamaki), and enjoys hurting people mentally (though we don't see him do it physically). Give me a good reason why he's NOT a Spectacled Sadist, and I won't add him.
Hide / Show RepliesOh, let me count the ways...
1. "Cool, glasses-wearing type" = Stoic Spectacles, not kichiku megane. Stoic Spectacles is a much more widespread "fetish" than kichiku megane which is relatively niché and would not fly at all with the target audience of the manga. Also, in context of the story, kichiku megane would not fly at all, for obvious reasons. (It's worth noting that the fangirls at Ouran High eat the darker tropes up - when it's in fiction, such as Renge's movie.)
2. "The character type requires that the character be a possible love interest; if there's no hope that the opposite party will ever reciprocate, he's probably just a stalker with a crush or a jerkass." - He's not a possible love interest for Haruhi and even if he was he likes her and respects her. As for the Ho Yay option, Kyouya has great affection for Tamaki and while he teases him as much as everyone else, he would never hurt him.
3. Yes, he pretends to rape Haruhi, but Haruhi sees right through him and flat-out tells him that she knows he wouldn't do it. Kyouya even admits his "defeat."
4. He pretends to be money-obsessed and unconcerned with anything that doesn't bring some sort of profit. This doesn't make him a kichiku megane. (Especially since we know this is not his true face.)
5. He doesn't enjoy hurting people mentally, where did you get this from?? (And even if he did, he wouldn't do it to Haruhi or any member of the Host Club.)
For the last time, he's not kichiku megane.
Edited by BaranoMy apologies. I was unaware of the other Four Eyes trope. Thank you for moving the examples.
Proud member of the IAA What's the point of being grown up if you can't act childish? Hide / Show RepliesThe trope name doesn't help either... I don't know why they decided on this one instead of something more specific.
- shrugs* Re-label it "Depraved Behind The Glasses"?
Per TRS, this was mreged with Bastard Boyfriend and Bastard Girlfriend into Fetishized Abuser, and Kichiku Megane was spun off into an Anime Fanspeak Definition-Only Page:
